For those of you that are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing songs & covers.
And I don´t even like Tarantino that much
As per the header, I am not a big Tarantino fan....so shoot me.
Why, as per the picture. I think the guy is pretty predictable, but he got one thing going for him.
He definitely has great soundtracks for his first two movies.
Movie 1:Reservoir Dogs
A Dutch hero....with a simple song...that caught on.
1. "Little Green Bag" – The George Baker Selection (3:15)
And if you smoke that little green bag, you risk getting hooked on that feeling.
2. "Hooked on a Feeling" – Blue Swede (2:53)
But keep smoking that stuff and you get stuck in the middle with Mari Jane.
3. "Stuck in the Middle with You" – Stealers Wheel (3:23)
But those could easily be topped by the 2nd best soundtrack ever:
Pulp Fiction
Surfs up and coming I soo love this intro....I have played it a million times for the floor and everytime it freaked up the masses.
4. "Pumpkin and Honey Bunny/Misirlou" - Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer/Dick Dale & His Del-Tones (2:27)
Tarantino has a gift for picking up golden oldies...this was again an amazing pick.
5. "Son of a Preacher Man" - Dusty Springfield (2:25)
And the more than amazing Maria McKee, check her out she´s ab fab.
6. "If Love Is a Red Dress (Hang Me in Rags)" - Maria McKee (4:55)
But those are all not competing with the best Movie song ever used, and that song was also used in Pulp Fiction and originally performed by Neil Diamond.
7. Neil Diamond - Girl You´ll be a Woman Soon
Is there a little light starting to flicker, or should I just throw it out there? Oke Spoiler Alert...this is the best song ever used in a movie.
8. Urge Overkills - Girl You´ll be a Woman Soon
That song sends shivers down my spine every single time.
It has this Alice in (a weird) Wonderland feel.
The first time you watch it ....you have hope.
Although the song makes the scene feel eerie, you wish they will get together...while at the same time you know it´s a Tarantino movie.
Those windows black as night, the pale white walls, it´s a perfect romantic setting.......to o.d.
Let me take you back and refresh your memory if the song did not spark the images yet.
Urge Overkill did not record the song for the movie, it was already out there on their EP Stull. They did re-release it as a single and it became probably their biggest hit ever. BTW they are still a band. And another fun fact, Sir Cliff Richard also covered the song...but well I would suggest not to spoil your good taste in music by listening to this version.
As mentioned this is my best movie song ever, from the 2nd best soundtrack.
What´s my number 1 soundtrack? That dear reader is for the next post. Hope you are still able to sleep and snore like a baby.

What the fluff are midnight gems?
Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.
My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.
Who the fluff am I?
Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years....Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
