MidNight Gems-Undiscovered, Underrated and Forgotten Songs vol.41 "Winter is Coming"
For those of you that are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing songs & covers.
“But the truth is, we died together once before. Arthur, me Danny Whizz-Bang, Freddie Thorne, Jeremiah, and John. We were cut off from the retreat, no bullets left, waiting for the Prussian cavalry to come, and to finish us off. And while we waited Jeremiah said we should sing In The Bleak Midwinter. But we were spared - the enemy never came. And we all agreed That everything after that was extra And when our time came, we would all remember.” - Tommy Shelby . The quote “In the Bleak Midwinter” symbolises second chance at life coming to an end.
They can hear the devil calling ....but in this next song I can only hear the angels calling...and if they are only a little tase of what heaven sounds like...OMG.
Not sure why I have not found this recording before, but have just discovered it this week. This is, without a doubt, one of the most incredibly pure choral/vocal performances I have ever heard. I was always a huge fan of The Kings Singers for similar reasons. And while not always the same genre of music, also love listening to Celtic Woman (especially the early years). But this performance of this, obviously, stunning choral work is simply amazing and inspirational.
But what pulls us through that winter is the fact that we all know...that once winter is gone...the sun once again will overcome. And why did I never ever hear this version before.....this one beats the original in my book (and the original is one of my fav. golden oldies).
Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years....Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
Hope you enjoyed this slightly confronting wave of amazing music and you still feel like joining me on the next special edition trip as vol.42 of Midnight Gems is coming soon.
