For those of you that are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing songs & covers.

Tonight we will have a very special 40th Edition.....

Where I will be playing my heroes and heroins.....and will keep playing till the end of time...or at least till the end of this cold night.

Starting with an acoustic version of "The Asphalt World" & "Europe Is Our Playground" from one of Brett's Solo appearances.

If you liked that one you might wanna listen to a full set Live at the Queen Elizabeth Hall......if that didn´t spark a flame...it must be very cold...winter is coming.

But Tori´s winter can warm me up any day. The first song I ever heard from this Lady...and probably still one of the best. And the way she looks here is exactly how she looked when I saw her live...soooo many winters ago.

Mr. Billy Joel ... I must have been like 12 when I received his greatest hits album.....but it did not contain his greatest hit....for me that´s the next one.

Before Billy J. I grew up on the Bat out of Hell Album, must have played it over 1000 times and still I guess that my favorite Jim Steinman & Meatloaf song was the next one...again one that was not on my album.

5. Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman - Objects in the Rear View Mirror

I'd just like to say that Jim Steinman and Meatloaf are both incredible artists, but when they get together they are literally greater than the sum of their parts. Thank heaven I lived to experience them together.

6. Meat Loaf Live With MSO - For Crying Out Loud

For crying out loud, I'll miss you Jim Steinman. Go back with the angels. We will keep you alive down here on earth as your music lives on.

Omg I am such an Imbecile for forgetting about this song for so many years....but it´s in style for tonights festivity.

7. Mike Batt & Roger Chapman - Imbecile

Well let´s pick up the pace a bit tonight like thunder and beyond the speed of sound..that was this, the first song I ever heard from the magical Ayreon. I listened the cd single once.... bought it and played for so many years.

8. Ayreon - Sail Away To Avalon (The Final Experiment) 1995

Were those wasted years? IDK but music has been so important in my life....my whole life till I reached 33 was built on great music... friends, festivals and DJ gigs.

9. Iron Maiden - Wasted Years

The older I got the darker my taste had become....still tonight will be mainly about the classics..... but some of those classics sound great if Now Artists pick them up and tweak them a bit.

10. Violet Orlandi ft @Melodicka Bros - In The Air Tonight

After Tonight Life will never be the same again.... When I first heard the next song I was sold.....it kicked my alternative rock/metal ass into some darker niches.

11. L'Âme Immortelle - Life will never be the same again

For my hardcore followers yes you two know who I mean these girls have been part of our journey....and probably will pass by in some shape of form tonight

12. Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation and the Gathering's Anneke van Giersbergen with The Metropole Orchestra - Somewhere (The Best Duet Ever)

That´s an instant classic....just like this is an all-time classic and an all-time favorite of mine....I even dressed up as Mr. Michael Hutchence....well the dead version including a belt around my neck.

13. INXS - Never Tear Us Apart

This takes me back to my childhood and this late 80s song...yes very well known but a gem anyway.

14. Simple Minds - Belfast Child

Let´s keep it Celtic and get back to those angelic voices...still not sure what it is but Celtic always catches my ear...would I have ever led a life on that beautiful Isle?

These sounds are like a river sweeping me along like an Orinoco Flow.... If you´re not from South America did you ever wonder what this Orinoco flow was.... I did not for over 30 years till now...

This brings me to really the first English song I can remember from my early childhood....and it took me 18 years to figure out what it was called and whom had performed it....that´s what you get without internet.

But to not sound too old, lets play a slightly more modern version.

Talking about being too old.... I know it´s corny but I think Forever Young is the one they can play at my funeral. It´s pretty much what I live by...I am ageless I will be forever young. Let´s listen to a little bit of this guilty pleasure performed by my other guilty pleasure.

OMG I am making it so hard on myself allowing myself only one Killers song... I guess it has to be this one.

Why?

Because I wanted to be a runaway at 13, I left home at 18 and I left my country at 28.... I will probably be a runaway for life.

But what would you expect, who wants to remain seated in this mad world? I wanted to explore, not to be held back.... and so I did.... did it all by myself.... something I said as a little kid... "Do it Self". Guess I got what I asked for...and more.

In my whole DJ career, I played very few trance/dance events but I did love playing a little set and see the crowd go....some of these songs are just so high energy. Still I am old school I need a good voice and lyrics to really get me excited.

22. Keane - Sovereign Light Café (Afrojack Remix)

This is probably my fav. remix in the world next to Pendulum doing Prodigy´s Voodoo people of course. Keane on AfroJacks steroids...but not sure if it would ever get close to the first song I ever heard by VNV Nation.

My hero Keith Kaputo, I really been following Keith from when the river ran red and it only got worse...before it got better but boy can he/she sing. Joining up with Within Temptation is probably not the best song for either ...but such a cool combo.

Another band I have been following from the start...the next step in Now Metal ...the only now Metal I still listen Now.

28. Linkin Park (feat. Kiiara)- Heavy

Staying with greatness this combo was amazing.... I saw Eminem years ago because I was afraid he would get killed like many rappers got those days....and ft. Ed Ed & Eddy who honestly is also a modern day Icon.

29. Eminem - River ft. Ed Sheeran

Keeping in the flow we have an other boss that wrote a little song about a river. Again I had the vinyl Born in the USA Album ....played it like forever....but this song was not on it¿?

30. Bruce Springsteen - The River

To stick with the classics an other band I grew up on ....and that made me chose between Telgraph Road and this one...guess I am still an old romantic geeck.

31. Dire Straits - Romeo And Juliet

Oh baby Bay it´s a wild world....I know and it wouldn´t benothing without a Lady or a girl. Couldn´t skip that old Cat.

32. Yusuf / Cat Stevens – Lady D'Arbanville (Official Music Video)

Not a big Everlast fan at all...but when they got the support from Carlos....they became a one day wonder in my book....while Carlos of course is an all-time hero.

I wanted to play so much more Latin songs...but I guess they haveto wait till an other article because I need to start ending this trip with some super groups.... and who would have thought these heroin junkies would create so much greatness.

If you ask me , I expect heaven to sound like Therion....this is the band I have seen more times than any other band and I would not mind seeing them 20 more times.

What the fluff are midnight gems?

Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.

My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.

Who the fluff am I?

Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years....Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
