MidNight Gems - Undiscovered, Underrated & Forgotten Songs vol.67 -In with the old, out with the old

 For those of you that are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing songs & covers.

After the Floor Jansen tribute in the last session, I noticed there is much more new music coming towards us these weeks... such as the new Placebo Album "Never let me go" which sounds old fashion and innovative at the same time. But this next song is what I wanted, a bit different and a lot of Brian.."hey..hey,hey".

It seems like it was legend week because RHCP also release their latest album 'Unlimited Love' and I posted black summer previously but they have a new single out now:

2. Red Hot Chili Peppers - These Are The Ways

But my personal favorite must be the last song of the album. Tell the whole world to slow down, I couldn´t agree more....the world is spinning out of control....and all I can do is stand by and watch the unpleasantness.

3. Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Heavy Wing

Where there is new stuff from legends some legends ended this week. Genesis announced there that they were playing their latest gig during their performance in the 02 arena....and looking at Phil I think that the timing couldn´t be better.

Most of you know that Phil Collins was the Genesis drummer...and Peter Gabriel sang....

Phil took over later in life when Peter didn´t come back.... but there has been one more singer a guy few of us remember. Ray Wilson joined Genesis as the band's lead singer after Phil officially announced his departure in March 1996. He sang on the Calling All Stations album and this is my fav song I guess.

4. Genesis - One Man's Fool

And we lost another hero "the best fckn drummer in the world" May You Rest In Peace Taylor! Not a huge Foo Fighters fan, but these guys belong in tonight´s not-so-standard Gems Session.

5. Taylor Hawkins last performance in Chile 18/03/2022 “ Somebody to Love”

We all notice but maybe we care less when we get older, but I don´t think it´s very fair to walk away....

Damn ain´t she a little gem. And a nice little bridge from these megastars to actual Midnight Gems and if you like this check out her other song(s) as well.

6. Loupe - Older

 

Now for those of you who have been thinking that the voice of Ray (Genesis) sounded so familiar for the last 15 minutes....you might know this guy from this song and know do not call them a Bush Clone:

7. Stiltskin - Inside

A band that is nobody´s clone, but deserves a place in tonight's craziness is the Rival Sons. Came across these guys not so long ago and well, they do a great job in doing things just a little different.

8. Rival Sons - Open My Eyes

Rammstein goes Pink Floyd with their latest release Zeit, like sand through the hourglass these are the days of our lives is what must have inspired this song. Or something similar, telling us that life is fading away with every breath. That we are in an endless circle of life, in which each individual life hardly seems to matter. Except to those who own that life, or love that living thing.

That´s a nice little thought to close tonight's weird trip with isn´t it, nice and uplifting.

What the fluff are midnight gems?

Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.

My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.

Who the fluff am I?

Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years....Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
