MidNight Gems - Undiscovered, Underrated & Forgotten Songs vol.63 "More Modern Midnights"
For those of you that are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing songs & covers.
That last session might have been a bit much for some of you...so tonight we will just dive into the sweet soup of pop music, just simple top 40 songs from right now.
Why?
Because I stumbled over a great number of songs this week that absolutely were worth an article because it´s not normal to I hear so many gems & semi-gems in a chart filled with the filth called popular music....
But the biggest gem is this next one:
It´s been several years since Stromae released his last song, but that makes his comeback even more magnificent....and at same time this song is a bit worrying.
1. Stromae - L’enfer
These two were classmates when they both were part of the RockAcadamy in Tilburg...JacquelineI have seen a couple of times drunk as a skunk dancing on the bar. But I don´t remember meeting Danny although I probably did.
But these two are just some of the great artist coming from that school of Rock and making a big impression on the Dutch music scene....definetly a little gem here.
2. Danny Vera & Krezip – Make It A Memory
Okay I am getting nationalistic here but truly by accident, Rondé is also from the Netherlands although I was shocked when I heard that....as I never heard about them and I loved the song.....but never expected this was a Dutch production.
3. RONDÉ - Hard To Say Goodbye
Oh this sounds like BLINK 182 is reborn and is doing a colab with Avril Lavigne and as I have a sweet spot for Emo Girls this song just hit the spot.
4. Machine Gun Kelly - emo girl feat. WILLOW
Okay lets skip my teengage emo feelings and get rid of that whole I am Dutch and we make great music part and get to ED the Hitmachine.
I was impressed by his funny colab with Elton over Christmass....but this one is soo amazing....so 80s.... so synths. I really was like.....Seriously...this is Sheeran?????
5. Ed Sheeran - Overpass Graffiti
Let´s continue that 80´s synth Disco feeling that ED started, this purple disco machine also was able to make a Eurythmics 2.0 song that´s not 13 in a dozen.
6. Purple Disco Machine, Sophie and the Giants - The Dark
Now as we are into that disco dancefever anyway, let´s play a couple of guilty pleasure gems as well.... This one is just so catchy.... I can´t help it.
7. Ofenbach & Ella Henderson - Hurricane
Katy has always been my black horse providing me with musical fireworks and as I am already disco tripping she was just the logical next choice.... leading up to tonights BoomBox Explossion
9. Alesso, Katy Perry - When I'm Gone
Oops there he is ...the BoomBoc Explosion song... if you thought The Business was the real deal....this one has a hook that´s even worse if you ask me. Tijs is really on a role and this guhe stiy is 53 years old..... Freaking hell, he still got´s what it takes to write a very sick popsong if you ask me.

What the fluff are midnight gems?
Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.
My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.
Who the fluff am I?
Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years....Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
