Hello Travel Lovers!

Here I am again taking you somewhere. I'm positive that you have heard the famous Titanic ship. Do you know the movie "Titanic" starring Leonardo Di Carpio and Kate Winslet as Jack and Rose? That's the very one!

Today I'm going to take you to Titanic Belfast. This is the very place where the Titanic was designed and launched in 1912.

I welcome you to this world-class visitor attraction located in the heart of Belfast and a must-see for anyone who's planning to visit Northern Ireland in the future.

Titanic Headquarters

The Titanic Belfast provide an exhibition about the Titanic, discover Belfast City, explore the shipyard and walk the decks and see artefacts from the Titanic and more.

Titanic Belfast tells the story of the Titanic when the White Star Line chose to build Titanic in the shipyard of Harland and Wolff in Belfast. The city beamed with pride since then. Titanic was the grandest ship the world had ever seen. This building put Belfast city on the industrial map.

It made Belfast big and on the 2nd of April 1912 Titanic set out with pride and confidence from the Harland and Wolff docks for her maiden voyage. And we know the rest of the story when it hits the iceberg and people loss their lives. The reputation of the shipbuilding city had sunk with it. They fell silent and the Titanic was then something they couldn't be proud of after its tragic end.

Then over a hundred years after the tragedy, Belfast is back it's pride with the opening of Titanic Belfast- the heart of the Titanic History. The place where it all began. This ship will capture our imagination once again.

Check the Titanic Belfast Website for more details.

These are some of the things you'll see inside. It's not easy for taking photos as its dark in some areas and only the lightning to the ones they're exhibiting to emphasize it.

Industrial Belfast

The largest and most important prosperous, commercial and manufacturing city in Ireland. Some of it is the exportation of Irish linen, tobacco and whiskey.

Linenopolis

Tobacco

Tobacco Manufacture in Belfast by Gallahers was exported worldwide.

Whiskey

The largest whiskey manufacturer in Belfast is Dunville and Company.

Here's another interesting piece that I'm fascinated about.

Time Clock

This is an example of a Harland and Wolff time clock used by Island men to record their clocking in and out of work.

During the construction of Titanic, a simple system of small wooden timekeeping boards were used. Each Island man collecting a "board" at the start of the day and returned it as they left work. To deter "time theft", machines like this one were introduced into the shipyard to more accurately record workers hours.

I'm very proud to say that my Dad in law worked in this shipyard. He used to tell me stories on how he worked on heavy pipes and how hard to do all the plumbing jobs and how big the ship they're working on! He's my amazing Dad!

Harland and Wolff Crane (Photo from Wikipedia)

Harland and Wolff or H&W is a shipyard where the Titanic was built and it's iconic yellow cranes name, Samson and Goliath.

If you want to see the Titanic Dock in Belfast where it was made check this video that I searched in Youtube credits to its owner dunaparty:

More things to see

And this will made you feel as if you're in there. The others you listen to the audio sound or watch a presentation.

The Luggage

First Class Cabin

First-class accommodations were located where rocking of the ship was less felt and less likely to get seasick. They were beautifully decorated

The parlor suites have wardrobe rooms and private baths. All first-class accommodations were equipped with telephones, heaters, special gimbal lamps, table fans, and call bells for calling steward.

Second Class Cabin

In the second class, passengers slept in berths built into the walls of the cabins. And there were two to four berths per cabin so we can say that privacy was challenging although a passenger could close the curtain around his or her berth. Each of them had a washbasin and a chamber pot to be used in case they got seasick. Passengers in second-class used communal bathrooms.

Third Class Cabin

Third-class passengers slept on bunk beds and it's crowded and the cabin was narrow. Like second-class passengers, they also shared bathrooms, but unlike the second class, the third class bathroom was shared by far too many and only two bathtubs(one for men and one for women) are available for all 710 third-class passengers.

Do you want to know how much they paid per accommodation?

A first-class ticket cost a minimum of ยฃ30 in 1912 which is more than ยฃ3300 on today's money. A second class ticket cost around ยฃ13 and it's nearly ยฃ1500 on today's money and the third class ticket would have cost you around ยฃ7 or nearly ยฃ800 in today's money. Wow, how expensive that was?!

And outside the Titanic Quarter, you can see the Hamilton Dock and see SS Nomadic. The only surviving ship of the White Star Line fleet. The one they called "Titanics Little Sister".

You can also have a full day tour with the Titanic Belfast together with the Games of Thrones and Giant Causeway tour.

I feel bad that I know that this isn't just it. There are far more to see and to know and to share but you need to be there to experience it yourself. There's a shipyard ride and also to watch the shipwrecks. I still wish you did enjoy it. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I want to ask you. If you were here in 1912 and you don't know what's coming, would you also like to be part of this maiden voyage? And for sure you'll want that first-class accommodation lol. Cheers!

Thank you so much! โคโคโค

Sorry to be late to comment, the Titanic incident was the saddest one for the whole of humanity because many people were drowned including children and old age people. May all rest in peace. You have present almost all the things of that ship with your descriptions along with the beautiful unseen pictures. This article is full of historical knowledge about titanic. Dear @tired_momma Thanks for sharing such amazing pieces of information.

Nice one. Reading your articles is like going on a weekend trip or a week's worth of vacation every day. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

By the way: I can understand that Belfast lost its pride when the Titanic sank. Even though the reason why it sank was not a construction error. But I guess people didn't know that right away and then the damage was already done.

Another interesting fact: ยฃ30 in 1912's money is more than ยฃ3300 in today's money. The pound lost over 99% of its value in a little more than 100 years -- which is a little more than one long lifetime... That's the elevator pitch for precious metals and crypto, isn't it? ๐Ÿ˜

When it's on its glory days the Belfast City will always be famous for the Titanic, the connection, however, brings it down to its fall when its Titanic sank. It's like buying something in the shop and it accidentally breaks and you go back to shop to complain and even its not the sellers fault he will take the blame and the shop will suffer the consequence. Belfast suffers sadly. And maybe the media/paper to blame those times I don't know. And lol yes! We can see now which is more precious ๐Ÿ˜† I'm feeling good thinking there is someone truly reading my post. You're the man! ๐Ÿ‘Š

The Titanic was indeed the most luxurious and believed to be the safest ship of the time. I didnโ€™t know there was a place like this dedicated to him. everything looks beautiful and very realistic. And if I had lived at that time, and if I could afford it, I would probably have set out on that journey on the Titanic.
