Happy belated new year to everyone! I'm slowly returning to the read.cash community after several challenging months. I was absent because a plumbing pipe at my place broke about 8 weeks ago. Over half of my living space, and a lot of my personal belongings sustained damage. It was extremely difficult to maintain an online presence while dealing with insurance issues, real-world deadlines and rising COVID-19 infection rates in my community. At the end of the day though, I can't complain since I still have a stable job, and my insurance will cover most of the restoration costs. Most of the repairs are finished now, so things are slowly returning to normal. Thank you to @tired_momma and to @PVMihalache for your continued sponsorship support during my difficult times! 💖 Although I didn't have time to write, I was still active reseraching different blockchain projects. Bitcoin Cash hard fork - New BCHA coin may not survive In a previous article, I explained how there were two groups vying for control of the Bitcoin Cash blockchain: Bitcoin Cash ABC (BCHA), and Bitcoin Cash Node (BCHN). At time of writing, the outlook appears bleak for BCHA. Data from cash.coin.dance shows mining results, with only 3 blocks mined since the hard fork. BCHN, on the other hand, has mined 44 blocks (Table 1 above). https://cash.coin.dance/ What does this mean? It's easy to see that the lion's share of miners are *not supporting the hard fork*, and most miners are continuing to mine the BCHN protocol. If things don't change quickly, it's clear that BCHA will not survive if no one will mine it. If this is the case, then there is no need to move your BCH coins to another wallet. The crypto world would continue on as if no fork ever occurred. My thoughts As I mentioned to a number of community members, it was a risky proposition to buy BCH in the hopes of profiting by selling the new forked coin. This advice appears to be sound as of right now. Clearly, the timing of the hard fork did not help, since Bitcoin (BTC) is nearing a valuation of $16,000 at the moment. It also remains to be seen if BCH will ever recover its valuation compared to BTC due to the recent volatility associated with the hard fork. It's notable that 1 BCH is valued at 0.01518 BTC at time of writing, which represents an all-time low. Thanks for reading, and stay safe! The Sandbox LAND Presale 4.3 was postponed due to technical difficulties experienced by the platform. It appears their servers were overwhelmed by the demand. No details have been announced regarding when the presale will resume. A second date for Presale 4.3 has been added, which will feature Smurfs Premium LANDs exclusively at a future date. The Sandbox confirmed a handful of LANDs managed to be purchased before their servers were shut down for maintenance. read.cash on LinkedIn and Twitter I discovered two new links at the top of my homepage today. Did you know they also have a LinkedIn profile? Did you know that read.cash has a Twitter feed? They are located on the top right of my homepage. What is LinkedIn? ***LinkedIn*** is an online platform that connects professionals with each other. I tend to think of it as Facebook for work and career. Your LinkedIn profile will offer a lot of information including your education, work experience, accomplishments, and certifications. https://www.linkedin.com/company/read-cash Many companies have profile pages on that platform, and it's a great way to find information and to network with like-minded individuals. When you click on the LinkedIn link, you will discover there are 3 employee profiles listed. The account started posting about a month ago, and there are a couple of posts that they highlighted from the community. Their feed is not particularly active, but that may change in the near future. read.cash's Twitter account read.cash opened a Twitter account relatively recently (October 2020). Their Twitter feed appears to be identical to what they have posted to LinkedIn. From this platform's statistics page, there appear to be 1,460 active users on read.cash, and their Twitter account has 134 followers. https://twitter.com/readcashblog https://read.cash/stats My thoughts I think it's great that read.cash is extending their social media presence. The more inroads they achieve, the larger audience they will connect with. Ultimately, that means authors on this platform will also have the opportunity to connect with a larger audience as well! Method #3 - Sell LAND tokens Users can also sell LAND on the Sandbox Marketplace, or on secondary sites such as opensea.io. The amount charged for rent would need to be competitive enough to allow Game Creators to properly monetize their games. Method #7 - Stake SAND SAND can be staked, which allows you to acquire more SAND as a stake reward (and also Catalysts or Gems in the future). It's notable that staking SAND in conjunction with owning LAND increased your staked rewards starting on October 27, 2020 for Phase 2. It's also important to realize that the value of SAND is intended to rise or fall depending on supply and demand. My thoughts There will be many more opportunities to monetize your presence in The Sandbox. Bitcoin Cash hard fork coming Nov 15, 2020 - Three tips for success The devs for Bitcoin Cash (BCH) have scheduled a hard fork for the cryptocurrency on November 15, 2020. The idea is that this would be automatically set aside to help fund future improvements to the Bitcoin Cash project. Here are three tips on how to navigate the upcoming change successfully. Tip #1 - Beware of BCH price volatility in the near future Historically, prices for many cryptocurrencies become increasingly volatile in the weeks leading up to a hard fork. This is due to the uncertainty surrounding the change. It's possible that the newly forked coin does not survive! Unless you are a seasoned crypto investor, I suggest you stay on the sidelines until things stabilize. Tip #2 - HODL your BCH If the hard fork is successful, all customers who owned BCH before the fork would be eligible to receive the newly forked coins on a 1:1 basis to match the value of your pre-forked BCH. For example, if you owned 0.359 BCH before the fork, you would be eligible to receive 0.359 of the new coin after the fork. The more BCH you own before the fork, the more of the new coins you may receive. Try not to spend or exchange your BCH until after November 15! Tip #3 - Find out which wallets will support the new coin If you wish to collect your new coins after a successful fork, you will need to deposit them into a wallet that supports the new forked coins. Cryptocurrency FAQ: What is a hard fork? There are times when the development team for a cryptocurrency starts to have diverging opinions on what is the best long term vision for the project. If the differences between the two groups cannot be reconciled, one group will separate from the other, and implement changes to the software code that they feel will ultimately strengthen it. In layman's terms, one can think of a hard fork as a backwards-incompatible software upgrade. The issue is that not everyone wants to perform the upgrade, since some feel the upgraded code is inferior to the existing code. Earn compound interest on your crypto assets with BlockFi Let me introduce you to a cryptocurrency lending and trading platform into which I have deposited most of my crypto assets. BlockFi offers compound interest on deposits for eight different cryptocurrencies. https://www.publish0x.com/the-kragles-crypto-journey/how-i-will-earn-20-dollars-in-free-bitcoin-from-blockfi-xevrnz Their business model follows that of a traditional bank in that they receive crypto assets from depositors, and lend some of them to individuals and companies. Interest is collected from their borrowers, and some of it is paid back to customers with deposits. BlockFi Interest Account (BIA) The BlockFi product for retail customers like you and me is the *BlockFi Interest Account* (BIA). It offers customers interest accrued daily, compounded monthly on their crypto deposits, with no minimum deposit required. Individuals must prove their identities with a KYC (Know Your Customer) process to be eligible. BIA interest rates on crypto deposits Table 1 below shows rates in Annual Percentage Yield (APY), which reflect effective yield based on monthly compounding. Note: USDT offering only available to customers outside of USA only. Update: I found this tweet notifying an upcoming interest rate change effective November 1, 2020: BIA withdrawals Customers are allowed *one free crypto withdrawal and one free stablecoin withdrawal per calendar month*. The free withdrawals apply to one type of cryptocurrency, and to one type of stablecoin. Although there are no minimum deposit amounts required, the minimum withdrawal amounts are 0.003 BTC and 0.056 ETH. Withdrawals for balances smaller than these amounts may take up to 30 days to process. Additional withdrawal limits and fees are listed in Table 2 below. Interest Flex Payment option One of the most attractive benefits of having a BIA is that customers can choose which cryptocurrency they wish to receive their interest payments with. For example, if a customer deposits both Bitcoin and Ethereum into their BIA, they can choose to receive all of their interest payments in only Bitcoin, or only Ethereum by choosing the Interest Flex Payment option. How safe is it to use BlockFi? BlockFi only lends to vetted and qualified institutional clients. The majority of the crypto assets they manage are placed in cold storage wallets, and only a smaller amount is stored in hot wallets for operational use. The hot wallets are covered by an insurance policy, and BlockFi assures its customers that the total value of assets stored in hot wallets will never exceed that policy. BlockFi's custodian of crypto assets is Gemini Trust, a limited purpose New York trust company which is regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services. Additionally, Deloitte completed a SOC2 examination of Gemini's custody solution. https://www.upguard.com/blog/soc-2 BlockFi suffered a data breach in May 2020, which resulted in the loss of customers’ full names, email addresses, dates of birth and notably, activity information and physical addresses. The company stressed that no “non-public identification information” was leaked, which would include bank account numbers, passwords or social security numbers. A new Chief Security Officer was hired in the wake of the data breach. Who is eligible for a BIA? The BlockFi Interest Account is available to clients worldwide, with a few exceptions. For example, due to legal restrictions, BIA is not available to users located in sanctioned or watchlist countries. When a creation is completed, it can be exported from VoxEdit to get registered on the blockchain to prove ownership, and eventually become a non-fungible token (NFT). NBA Top Shot NFT - 2020 NBA Finals Challenge - Pricing trends Part 2 I noticed an interesting trend when tracking prices for the Moments in the 2020 NBA Finals challenge in my last post. I will omit *Scarcity Factor* from my discussion again, because I'm working on some calculations that are raw and not completed. The cost to purchase a single 2020 NBA Finals pack was $230, but they all sold out within a few minutes of the drop on October 19, 2020. All but three of the Moments in this series have maintained their lowest asking prices above $230. The biggest seller was the Alex Caruso 2020 Finals Moment with 6 sold based on my data. That means that there were potentially 6 more sets completed over the past 48 hours. The lowest asking prices for his Moment held steady, and did not drop over the past 48 hours. There were 27 Danny Green 2020 Finals Moments on the market based on my earliest data (highest supply value), and his Moment now has the lowest asking price in the entire set. Is it a surprise to see it even lower than those for Miami players? A little bit for me, but there may be some recency bias attributed to that. A lot of Lakers fans questioned the quality of his playoff performance. I wonder if it will appreciate in the future? No brand new collections were created over the past 24 hours, because twelve LeBron James 2020 Finals Moments remain on the Marketplace. The lowest cost (excluding transaction fees, etc.) to complete one set from scratch decreased by about 5% since yesterday, down to $4,209 at time of writing. Overall, this cost dropped about 12% since I started tracking this data. Limitations Any trends may not be meaningful due to the small sample sizes recorded. Although NBA Top Shot is now open to the public, just a little more than 3,300 individuals collect these NFTs based on data on the NBA Top Shot homepage. My thoughts The cost of buying a complete set is lower today compared to buying a complete set two days ago. That shows that it paid to be a patient collector for this series. I observed some collectors buying 10 packs at a time when the drop occurred. Contrary to my initial reaction, it turns out this was not a crazy strategy for completing the 2020 Finals challenge. If you were extremely lucky, and only needed to purchase 10 packs to complete this challenge, your cost would have been $2,300 (excluding transaction fees, etc.). By comparison, buying a complete set from scratch at the last minute would have cost $4,209. If you had surplus Legendary Moments from your 10 packs, you were able to sell them on the Marketplace to recoup some of your costs, and reallocate them to buy the Moments that you were missing. This strategy worked extremely well for the collectors who were fortunate to get one or more LeBron James Legendary Moments in their packs. Even if the strategy of buying 10 packs didn't result in a collector getting a LeBron James Moment, it appears the acquisition cost to complete the Challenge could have still been lower than buying them all separately at the last minute, using strategies mentioned above. The lowest asking price for a last-minute LeBron was $1,775. Cost of ten 2020 Finals packs = $2,300 Cost of lowest priced LeBron James = $1,755 Total spent = $4,075 (compared to $4,209 noted above) Based on current pricing, these packs have offered good value one week after selling out. I was not able to find any Moments for sale at opensea.io https://opensea.io/ The lowest cost (excluding transaction fees, etc.) to complete one set has dropped about 7% since yesterday, down to $4,440 at time of writing. Limitations Any trends may not be meaningful due to the small sample sizes recorded. Although NBA Top Shot is now open to the public, just a little more than 3,300 individuals collect these NFTs based on data on the NBA Top Shot homepage. My thoughts That the cost of buying a complete set is lower today compared to buying one yesterday is something that I did not expect. Notably there are now also fewer sets that can be completed from scratch. It's possible that individuals looking to sell the extra Moments that they own on the Marketplace are starting to worry they may not recoup costs by selling them, simply because they are running out of time. Based on current pricing, it's not surprising to me that these packs offered good value one week after selling out. It's why I decided it was worthwhile to try and buy a pack since each one contained one Legendary, and two Rare moments for $230. However, it will be interesting to see if individual Legendary Moments from this series will continue to hold their value in the future. At the moment, their value may be directly related to the reward by completing the challenge. Harvest Finance is the latest DeFi platform to get hacked Decentralized finance (DeFi) projects have become extremely popular over the past year. They allow customers to borrow or lend crypto coins or tokens without the need for a financial intermediary such as a bank. Smart contracts allow all the transactions to be handled automatically. But DeFi projects have been increasingly targeted by criminals because they have attracted so much capital in such a short period of time. Harvest Finance is the latest DeFi platform to be victimized. With over $400 US million worth of total locked value (TVL), they made the following announcements on Twitter yesterday. https://harvest.finance/ What was unusual is that Harvest Finance managed to identify who the hacker was early today, but they declined to publish that individual's personal information. Furthermore, they *tried to ask the thief to return the funds* that were stolen. The hack is still unresolved, as the hacker had stolen $24 million, but returned $2.5 million. Harvest Finance's native token (FARM) has also fallen about 50% in the wake of the hack. https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/harvest-finance To their credit, Harvest Finance has taken responsibility for the error in their code that allowed this breach. https://medium.com/harvest-finance/harvest-flashloan-economic-attack-post-mortem-3cf900d65217 I must admit that I was very tempted to experiment with a number of DeFi platforms over the past few months. This latest setback in the space has shown that individuals should be extremely careful, and do their own research before investing in this space. Top Shot Marketplace for 2020 NBA Finals Legendary Moments Anyone have $1,795US they would like to spend to buy a Finals Legendary LeBron James Moment? Keep in mind that's the lowest asking price for serial number 44 out of 79. If you were wondering, the same Moment with serial number 3 is asking for $6,000US. NBA Finals Rare packs drop - Wed, October 21, 2020 at 5:00pm PST The Finals Rare packs finally dropped on October 21, 2020. I was expecting very high demand, but luckily I managed to buy a few. Within a minute, I made my first purchase. After I checked out and paid for my purchase, the Finals Rare packs were shown to be sold out. A few minutes later after refreshing my page, more packs became available, and they were sold out again shortly after that. This happened several times, and at one point around 5:20pm PST, it showed about 1,800 packs were still available. Look at my re-tweet that I sent during the buying frenzy! Think this drop probably sold out close to 5:40pm PST because no new packs appeared for me after hitting refresh after that. I had made two more Finals Rare pack purchases after my first one. So which Moments did I score? My packs are still sealed, so I don't know. 😉 Top Shot Marketplace for The Finals Rare Moments You will notice that a Finals *Rare* LeBron James Moment is more affordable than a *Legendary* one. The lowest asking price for a Rare Finals Lebron is $130US for serial number 305 of 750. The same Moment with serial number 2 is asking for $3,000US, but that doesn't make sense to me. Why? It's an issue of simple supply. Let's review the asking prices again: 2020 Finals **Legendary** LeBron James serial number 3 asking for $6,000US - **only 79 ever minted** The Finals **Rare** LeBron James serial number 2 asking for $3,000US - *750 minted* There are over 9 times more Rare LeBrons than Legendary ones for the Finals. So why is the owner of the serial number 3 Rare asking for so much? As I mentioned, it doesn't make sense. The market is not mature, so I'm sure we'll see price adjustments moving forward. Cryptocurrency FAQ - What is a non-fungible token (NFT)? Before we start, it's important to understand what *fungibility* is. Discussion about fungibility An asset that is *fungible* means that it can be interchanged with another asset of the same value. *Fungible* assets also have value when they are divided into parts. An example would be a brand new $1 US dollar bill or 1 Euro note. Those bank notes can be replaced with other equal valued, authentic brand new $1 US dollar bills or 1 Euro notes. The dollar and Euro can also be divided into cents, which also hold value. Similarly, a newly mined Bitcoin Cash coin (1 BCH) is equivalent to another one stored in an individual's cold storage wallet. They are *fungible* assets that can be replaced with each other, have the same value, and their parts also hold value. On the other hand, assets that are *non-fungible* are unique, and not equivalent to any others in the world. Because of this, they can have unique valuations. **A real-world example of a** ***non-fungible*** **asset could be a concert ticket** in a venue with no standing room. The ticket grants the owner access to a specific seat location, and the ticket has no value if it is divided into parts. Applying the principle of non-fungibility to tokens I discussed how blockchain tokens can have many use cases in a previous article. By applying what we have learned before with the explanation above, a *non-fungible token (NFT)* is a token that represents a unique asset. My previous article will be updated to reflect this. Please note that some of these NFTs listed above are not available for mainstream use at the moment! I'm simply predicting their prevalence and acceptance will increase dramatically over the next five years. There will be some that need to be purchased, but some of them can be acquired free (usually be completing tasks or by winning them in a contest). The following are a few examples of NFT collectibles. CryptoKitties This was a game built on the Ethereum blockchain that allows players to collect, breed, and exchange virtual cats known as CryptoKitties. Each CryptoKitty can have a combination of several different properties, such as age, breed, or color. As such, each of them is unique, and they can’t be interchanged with each other. Also, they are indivisible, meaning that there’s no way to divide a CryptoKitty token to divisible parts, - **Binance Academy** This game became infamous because the entire Ethereum network slowed to a crawl at the height of its popularity. Cryptocurrency FAQ - What are the different types of tokens? Now that we understand the difference between a *coin* and a *token*, we can explore the different types of tokens. Based on my research, there are differing opinions on token classifications. Ownership can entitle an individual a right to a share of earnings, a right in property distribution, or other similar legal rights. Refunds can be tricky too for vendors of goods and services if they are priced with cryptocurrencies. They can be pegged to a cryptocurrency, fiat money, or to exchange-traded commodities (such as precious metals or industrial metals). Their use allows individuals to cheaply and rapidly transfer value around the globe while maintaining price stability. Other use cases include providing liquidity, and hedging against volatility. But is there a real difference between those two terms? The answer is **YES**! There is one subtle, but important difference between them, and it's important to understand it if you are starting to learn about cryptocurrencies. In fact, it is built on top of another blockchain. Another way to look at tokens is to compare them with an experience many people have when they visit an arcade. If you want to play the arcade games, you need to buy the metal coins from the token dispensers. It's the arcade tokens that provide access to the games, not fiat money. It's important to understand that the Ethereum ecosystem contains both its own coin (ETH), and its own blockchain which tokens are designed with. A few other notable differences I picked up a few more distinguishing features of tokens from my research. Because tokens are built on top of another blockchain, most tokens cannot be mined. Most are created when they are minted. According to Binance, we should not referring to tokens as cryptocurrencies. I noticed the author's name in the weblink, and searched for recent activity. To my surprise, I found this article was indeed published. This was copied straight from my P0x account. The CryptoWordsmith rebranding project Some of you who have followed my crypto journey know that I started as an author using the pseudonym The Kragle on Publish0x. Along the way, I took the LinkedIn "Build Your Own Brand" online course, which empowered me. I decided to apply the lessons, and to build my own brand.
