A blessed Wednesday to all readers of readcash! 😊 🌍
Let’s keep the ball rolling and continue the plant 🌿 tour in our backyard
.......continuation................
Aloe Vera (Sabila) – Aloe vera is a succulent plant also known as Aloe Barbadensis. It is stemless, a short shrub (short-stemmed) that is well known for its medicinal properties, use in the treatment against various skin problems, and other amazing uses. A juicy plant that grows around 60 to 100 cm (24 to 39 inches) in height. Its slimy, semi-fluid flesh has been known to contain healing properties and is rich in antioxidants. The leaves are thick and the color changes from green to gray-green while other varieties of aloe vera have these white flecks appearing on the upper and lower portions of its stems. The edge of the leaves is similar to a saw-tooth, its flowers bloom when summer comes. Here are only a few of the most common benefits of this succulent plant that are typically obtained by breaking off a stalk to scrape or extract the gel-like substance within.
- traditional scalp care remedy - It contains Proteolytic enzymes that increase hair growth and make hair look healthy, eliminating dead skin cells in the scalp that causes clogging in the hair follicles making it difficult for hair to grow and absorb nutrients, it removes sebum and dead cells found on the scalp that causes dandruff. The alkalizing substances bring the scalp and hair pH to a better level to aid in maximizing the process of hair growth and keep water and moisture in the scalp and hair.
- makes wound heal fast – it can be applied either topically or orally, these allow the enzyme and hormones by increasing the collagen production of the skin which helps wound to close and heal faster and it also aids in the development of healthier scar tissues.
- helps to reduce inflammation - the chemical compound C-glucosyl chromone that is typically found in aloe vera gel provides a potent element against inflammation. It slows down the body's ability to generate hormones that cause pain or triggers inflammation.
- heals skin exposed to UV radiation – being under the sun for so long or overexposure to sunlight can cause UV (ultraviolet radiation) that can lead to skin damage. Aside from the development of skin discolorations or sunburnt skin, it produces chemical compounds from the skin which can cause pain and other reactions. The rich antioxidants of this plant help to slow down skin irritations and limit the damage due to exposure.
- battle against aging and dryness of the skin – since aloe vera has compounds like sugars, it may help your skin to retain its moisture by allowing the production of collagen which can help maintain the skin's elasticity or ability to stretch. The amino acid in it helps tighten pores and treat skins dryness which can slow down the appearance of wrinkles and skin deterioration.
- helps kill microorganisms – aloe vera contains six chemical compounds, these are salicylic acid, urea nitrogen, phenols, cinnamic acid, lupeol, and sulfur. All of these compounds have effective properties that have the ability to limit infection.
- fight against tumors – The aloe vera gel naturally carries polysaccharides that have been successfully proven to help prevent cancer when tested in animal models. It was suggested that aloe vera may help protect your cells from damage and slow down the formation of tumors.
- provide digestive benefits and help to treat constipation - naturally-occurring enzymes found in aloe vera can help break down food so you can avoid stomach problems, reduce inflammation and support the production of proper mucous levels in the intestines to lessen irritations providing relief and reducing the discomfort caused by IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). The Anthraquinones, an Aloe latex is a potent type of laxative that may help increase the water content of the intestine it increases the mucous production in the gut and promotes its movement which may help to support proper bowel movement and relieves constipation.
This plant can survive both, indoors and outdoors but it is best placed in a shaded area with a little sunlight.
With the numerous benefits of aloe vera, I am thankful that we have this kind of plant around though it's only a single pot and a little crowded that we need to re-pot and replant. Even though some of its leaves are drying, I'm happy they survived despite being on the roof. They are able to withstand the storm and I'm grateful. Thinking of where to place them when we separate their plantlets. If only I can use the rooftop of my neighbors hahhahaha🤣without them knowing lol 😂. Is that even possible, shall I try??? 😵🧐🤭
On the same roof, we have Onion Leaves (Leeks) - Leeks or Alium porrum, 100g of the said leeks contains about 2 grams of dietary fiber and a gram of protein. It contains several important minerals such as vitamins A, C, E, and B6 as well as calcium, iron, magnesium, and manganese. The natural antioxidant properties of polyphenols and the flavonoid called kaemferol (present in leafy green vegetables like kale, broccoli, and cabbage) can protect the body from cellular damage reducing the risk of numerous illnesses like various chronic diseases including cancer. The presence of a compound called allicin in leeks that are also found in garlic, onions, and shallots that according to research, allicin demonstrates antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties.
Time to harvest these mature onion leeks and add these fresh leeks to the beef stew or bulalo. This will be a pretty good garnish for it. I didn't expect it to grow or live from the storm that lasted 3 weeks. The leaves are weak so I thought they all bent over and lying on the ground. It just made me smile that the leeks did not do so much damage.💪💪

God bless us all 🙏😇
