Good evening readcash world! Happy Friday the 13th 😱

May your evening be filled with warmth and happiness!🥰❤️🙏

Let us continue the plant 🌿 tour in our backyard.

 .......continuation................

  • We have 2 kinds or a variety of chili in a pot. The 1st one is a regular chili 🌶 or the red chili. It's about 3 feet in height and we are not able to put support and are unable to cover it. All the leaves were blown by the strong rain and wind but I'm hopeful that they will recover in time. This is frequently bought in the groceries or market.

Red chili destroyed by the continous rain
Our last harvest of red chili before the typhoon
  • 2nd variety of Chilli 🌶, as you can see from the picture below. This is a smaller variety of red chili 🌶 that is commonly found in groceries or markets. This variety is relatively small but i assure you it is spicier than the other species of chili 🌶. In studies chilies have been found to help prevent lifestyle diseases like some cancers and stomach ulcers, it has the ability to create heat within the body that helps in weight loss as well as lowering the risk of type II diabetes.

Left chilies - the red chili.. The right chilies - the small variety
Plenty of chilies even after the storm
  • Alugbati (Malavar Spinach) - I don't know if Malabar Spinach is the correct English term for it. I use Google to check the English translation and it was the one given. Alugbati is rich source of soluble fiber for better digestion, releases toxins in the body, and prevents constipation which also contains Saponins that act as phytochemicals that can fight off cancer and relieve ulcers. The red variety/kind of alugbati is a great source of xanthones and an effective antioxidant. It has a high vitamin C content that can boost our immune system. For skincare, you can apply it directly to your skin or use it as a facial mask. Doing these will surely soften your skin. Because of its cooling effect, it can reduce swelling. It has minerals like magnesium and zinc that can relax your body and makes you close your eyes and fall asleep which recharge your energy in no time. With all the benefits this plant gives I'm really glad that we get to reap a few vines of alugbati from time to time. With these benefits that we can get from this plant, I should tell my mom to plant more of these.

  • Camote Tops (Sweet Potato Leaves) - A type of vegetable root crop from the sweet potato, it a kind of bindweed from the morning glory family, Convolvulaceae. This is a good source of fiber. In several studies, it was proven that this plant has anti-diabetic compounds that can lower blood glucose. It carries lots of Vitamin K which helps in de-calcifying arteries of hard and harmful plaque deposits, which is a major cause of heart attack in most cases. These are just a few of the benefits of sweet potato leaves. You can also research the other benefits of this. My mom managed to collect a small number of vines that we will combine with the other vegetables later.

  • Chayote/Sayote - This plant like other vegetables also has a potent antioxidant that fights cancer. This can promote healthy pregnancy for women, blood sugar control, heart health, slows visible signs of aging, supports liver function, etc.

  • We are fortunate that there is a vacant lot that's about 10meters away from our house where my mom would plant sayote, alugbati, camote, and other root crops. This vegetable is from the gourd family also a type of vine. It requires a big space to crawl and hang itself. It produces a pear-shaped fruit. You can gather the sayote tops and fruits. Best added in the chicken stew (tinolang manok).

Cooking :The alugbati, sweet potato leaves, and chayote were all combined and cooked by sautéing in garlic, onion, and some slices of ginger. Tossed and poured a few drops of oyster sauce, salt, and ground pepper. We liked it plain no meat or shrimp. But of course, you can always make your own version depending on your taste and preference. You can add meat, kinds of seafood like shrimp, squid, crab, mussels, etc. also tokwa/tofu and you can sprinkle with fried garlic.

.....to be continued............

P. S. By the way today, Friday, marks the 7th day of my break up 💔 with RUSTY.. been a week now. 😂 Please comeback, oh please! 🙏🙏🙏

Thanks fellas for taking your time to read. I pray that we all have the best of health so let’s eat healthy to become health.🙏🥰😇

I can only identify red chili from all here. I do use red chili for my stew as it makes it peppery and even add color to it Thanks for sharing other plants. At least I have learned something.

That's a loss that some of your plants died because of the rain. I just wish you could plant some again. May sili rin po kami pero ayun, after several harvests, nawala na rin sila. I love your garden and your plants, lalo na yung sili kasi fave ko yan.
