How's everyone?!
Hei! How's everyone! I regretted not visiting the site earlier and commemorate my 3rd year anniversary. Sigh... anyways, I have been absent for the longest time so... Just want to say my regards to my friends and connections here. I hope y'all are doin fine and great! Hyvää iltaa kaikille!
World Autism Day 2023 I was on a bus the other day when I noticed a kid around 10 years of age, staring vividly at the glass window. He was silent the whole time, and though it’s normal for anyone to look outside the window while riding on the bus, this boy wasn’t looking outside. I noticed that he was staring at the reflections emanating on the glass. He might be looking outside, but his vision was closely held only at those images reflecting on the window. When the bus stopped and a passenger went up, the driver told the mother and the kid to sit properly for the new passenger to sit down. The mom had to cuddle the child up because he was not bothered to move, he was still fixated on the glass window. I’m just glad the man didn’t complain or get annoyed, but instead looked sympathetic with the mother and the child. This is humanity, and we love seeing care and respect from the most common places we dwell in. As a Physical Therapist, it has been a habit for me to observe gait patterns, postural malalignment, and movement disorders from people I met elsewhere. Sometimes it is easy to understand people when you see them physically struggling with something that is beyond their control. Children with autism are one of those challenging aspects of society that we don’t need to be indifferent. They should not be excluded in the community, thus they need to be understood and accepted. I have seen this Korean drama “The Extraordinary Attorney Woo” on Netflix and by far she’s indeed extraordinary for someone with Autism. Though this film might be fictional, but I love the concept that she has been given the chance to work as a lawyer, and her judgment is welcomed and respected by her colleagues. Attorney Woo must be entertaining because of her high functioning Autism, but not all are like her. Some can be totally different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxeXECe2t-c In the story, one would realize that people with autism have a different world, which must be twisted from ours. Nonetheless, their struggle to face the real world is just as extraordinary as well. Thus we ought to be patient and understanding for them too. I just hope we all have the power to see the difference and understand everyone. Like spotting Persons With Disabilities and go easy on them. How about people with mental issues and feigning life with a smile? Just spread kindness and love to ANYone! Thanks for reading guys! Sometimes I Want to Disappear `Like the wind passing by softly like nothing` `Like the air in my nostrils getting short, barely breathing` `Like the tears that burnt my heart grieving` `Like my dreams in oblivion and fading` `Like the dust on earth of which I’m bound and looming` Hello there! Just another sad article today, I’m so beaten up obviously with life. I’m just so physically, mentally and emotionally tired today. As I arrived home, I just collapsed in bed and felt like I disappeared into the dark room. And, scribbled those rhymes in my mind. “Let me unload these words out and write,” I thought. Forgive me…. Again. Don’t you worry, this isn’t about a sad love story. I’m still zero on that aspect, but heartbroken into pieces nevertheless. So, let me start with our constant hospital visits and consultation regarding my mom’s condition. This, alone, already breaks my heart, seeing her every day in pain is already painful for me as well. God knows how I’ve been praying for a miracle, but that’s not always the case in the real world, so I just keep on hoping. Her condition worsened with a wound on her right foot three weeks ago. This has been my worry ever since she got the diagnosis and alas! It became a nightmare for us. Until now, the wound bugs us. Mom’s pain became intense to the point that her blood pressure would shoot up a bit higher. This has been an exasperating battle everyday for us. God knows how I’ve been searching for any conservative treatment, but NO. She felt that she was alone in her battle. Again, that breaks my heart. It hurts knowing that I have been pretty useless despite all the efforts I made. What else should I do? I hoped I could do magic and make it disappear, but unfortunately I'm not. So, perhaps I could just disappear? I know I am strong for this, but being human myself, it can be frustrating and draining. My mind has been a battlefield, and it's exhausting. Work, as well, is demanding. I have been working during the day, my rest in the evening is my only refuge. Am I selfish to shut the world for a bit? Oh well, what am I doing here?! Please bear with me. That would be all I guess. I can hear the firetruck busy outside, and there is another one coming. I have to go out and check where the fire is! Where's The Good in Goodbye? `“Hear me once again,` `I’m just here in pain.` `Nostalgic and creeping low` `Aching, breaking, feeling the glow…”` Howdy! How’s everyone?! I don’t know where I’ve been for the past months, but it was a bit of a bumpy ride with life and crypto, so let’s just keep on moving further… and stronger. Anyhow, I got a little poetic while spending flyday, ahmm I mean my Friday afternoon with a cup of coffee and contemplating where and how should I scream my lungs out and explode (in tears *sob). It’s exhausting to think and even talking with some people around us who we thought are trustworthy just didn’t fit either. It's just tiring and the introverted side of myself just want to write. Oh! Hear me out once again, my friends in the virtual world! The rhyming creative juices in my brain were able to create the four lines of rhymes and expressions that I wish I could’ve just fake it, but no. My heart won’t mask it, it’s heavy. There’s no way to pretend and feign. So, yes. It’s funny coming back writing, ahhmm I mean venting. I think that’s the right word for this kind of write up. Actually, my mind battles for the words, but I want to write my melodramatic state of mind so just bear with me, hear me once again. Since there is no purpose in all this, I just want to explain what the title all about. “Where’s the good in goodbye?” Just the closure, I guess. It’s tiring and painful, I don’t know why we should endure it, right? There is always no fun in goodbyes. The thought of moving forward with the absence of something and/ or someone just seems disconcerting. However, closure is imperative in goodbyes. It is the premise that a new chapter begins. Beginnings… new light… glow. Hope. Let’s endure goodbyes then. I was reminded of this song from The Script, I’m listening to it now actually. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRNTOabGsDk `"Where's the good in goodbye,` `where's the nice in nice try,` `where's the us in trust gone..."` I love this line from the song, it's ironic, but it does echo some truth. Sigh. Anyway, enjoy the song and be sure not to cry, haha! Of course, no goodbyes in read.cash. Just hellos and howdy yo! I miss everyone! Merry Christmas read.cash Community! Ho ho ho! Just a quick hi, hello and a very merry Christmas to my friends and the wonderful community here in read.cash! In a couple more hours we will be celebrating the Christmas eve here in the Philippines. My sister and I just finished cooking, that means the kitchen is not burning anymore, lol! Yes, it's hot in there at least just recently, while the weather is a bit cold outside because it's been raining hard the entire day. This morning we had orange rainfall warning in most part of Mindanao from the Philippine Weather Center, and this is just sad for some of the Filipinos experiencing flooding and landslide in calamity-prone areas, especially during the holidays. I pray for the families affected to find comfort and peace while celebrating Christmas today. It's the time of the year to celebrate and be merry, I hope that we all do! Anyway, I was planning to join @Jane 's giveaway and had been planning to write a Christmas story, however, as I review the mechanics of the contest I missed the 'twist' of it and have to say pass this time. So, maybe next time. Merry Christmas everyone! I know this is not the merriest Christmas for us in this special niche of ours because our favorite, generous friend Rusty is bidding his good bye. But, let's wear our sweetest smiles and put on our Santa hat and celebrate Christmas! After all, the essence of this celebration is Jesus. Let's spread positivity, love, joy and peace to everyone! Furthermore, Christmas is about thanksgiving too. And, one thing I am so much grateful are the blessings I got from read.cash during the pandemic. I started writing here September of 2020, hoping that I could get an extra income online because the personal economy has been so difficult those days. Indeed, I thank God that this platform has been a portal of His blessing and provision when life has been so tough. Read.cash has been my company too. My company during those boring quarantine/ isolation days. The community has been so warm and friendly. And, I am so much thankful to all of you for being there - reading my thoughts, sharing your world with me. Moreover, isn't it wonderful to earn something while we write our thoughts?! Just an amazing experience, thank you read.cash! I thank God for His kindness and mercy as well. I can't imagine how anxious I was during those days when I have to endure with quarantine and even the vaccination experience. And, praise God! We are good and well, now celebrating His goodness this holiday season. So much to be grateful for, and I am happy to share it with you. Celebrate life! Merry Christmas read.cash! P.S. Thank you to all who shared some love to the #PesoSaPasko article. Every penny goes to the students/ recipients of the fundraising event. God bless us all! Blessings! https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/peso-sa-pasko-f3342f97 Lead image and article photo by me via Canva All Original Content (unless specified otherwise) 12/24/2022 ©️ LykeLyca Write articles and join us! Peso Sa Pasko #PesoSaPasko is a fundraising event of the students, parents and the teacher from Grade 9- section 7 class of Lantapan National High School in the province of Bukidnon. I don't have an accurate interpretation for the hashtag in English, but perhaps this article would do. So, my sister-in-law is the classroom teacher for this section and they aim to help those students who don't have enough finances to at least buy a set of school uniform. When the face-to-face classes started here in the Philippines few months ago, some unfortunate students in the public schools could barely afford to buy their school needs, especially when everyone is just recuperating from the Covid19 pandemic. Furthermore, they're also planning to buy some groceries to share for Noche Buena or the Christmas eve for these unfortunate families, that is if they could raise a bigger amount. The priority is for the student's uniform because this is more convenient to wear than those random clothes and they don't have that much clothing either. The students prepared an online carolling for the said fund raising, and you can check it out here. I requested if they could post it on YouTube, but no one is not that techy, Facebook is the only convenient medium they could upload the video. So, just click the link and take a glimpse of the school and its warm people, despite of the really cold weather out there. https://www.facebook.com/100088585236633/videos/666534421870054 Anyway, Christmas is all about sharing and love, thus, the tips from this article would be for this cause. I hope our little rusty friend would be so generous and BCH would soar higher now, now that it's Christmas! And, speaking of tips, I would love to make this opportunity to thank this anonymous tipper here in read.cash for the generous tip from my previous article. Maraming Salamat! Thank you very much! I've seen this GIF sparkle in my gallery, and I was reminded of those bountiful BCH and read.cash giveaways from here and there last year, I hope we could do it again this time around. Maybe from the #Club1BCH community. Anyway, that greeting must be too early, but I love the caption "Spread the BCH love," let's spread the love! Thanks for reading! I'm Back With Bountiful December Glad to be back! And I'm tagging along bountiful December with me. Well, I'm claiming it! November just left me flabbergasted, I guess that would be the most appropriate word for it. The week started with the Halloween and it tagged along other monstrous news and surprises. I don't think I would love to jog my memory back, I just have to let it go... *let it go, and slam the door, lol!* It's just me singing, Let it Go from Disney's Frozen movie. You might want to sing with me, I can park it here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0MK7qz13bU Anyway, for a week now I have been juggling work and going to Ozamis City from time to time to help my cousin. There is nothing much I could do than to spare some time for them, so not much of a problem for me, only that I get tired at the end of the day and could no longer write something here, no more Netflix and all. I hope to be back on track. On the other hand, just to update you about my cousin's situation because we are still in this predicament up until now, and there's no way I could shut it off, because they need heaps of prayers for the baby. So, yes, the situation didn't turn out so well after our visit. She had an allergic reaction from one of the medicine the doctor gave her, and the following morning she had skin rashes on both palms of her hands, more water retention in both legs, arms and some on her face, the worst she's hyperventilating. Blood works confirmed an allergic reaction of a certain magnesium content (not so sure about it) in the medicine, thus she was monitored closely to normalize her condition and resort to Cesarian Section as soon as possible. She had a successful surgery last November 30, and my cousin is fine now. Yesterday, she was allowed to move around inside the room, and was also permitted to see her daughter in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The poor little bundle of joy is in an incubator, her breathing is dependent on the ventilator machine and food via gastric tube. She's so little and fragile, according to my cousin. This morning, the little baby had a chest x-ray to check her lungs, and the doctor said that she would be dependent on the ventilator for a while until her lungs mature. Sigh. This is just so sad. Our baby needs all the prayers she could get from all prayer warriors out there. I was so happy reading the comment of @BCH_LOVER about her twins, and @imanagrcltrst herself, they're a testimony of hope for preemies. I hope our little baby girl will grow and heal day by day by God's grace. Anyhow, moving forward, I'm hopeful for a bountiful December. It seems BCH dwindles, and its value still bearish... sBCH as well. Well, we still have less than a month to see it soar before the year ends! Good luck to all of us! Let's claim it NOW! There are lots of things bugging my mind nowadays, sigh... These bugs are just relentless. I won't spill the beans for now, just hoping and praying for God's will, for He certainly knows the desires of my heart. This would be all for now and leaving you with this inspiring verse. *“'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, '****plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future****. '”* — Jeremiah 29:11 I'm claiming this for myself, for the baby, and for all of us this December! Aja! Thanks for reading! Sunday in Ozamis City I’m tired, but I can’t sleep. I think the adrenaline from my busy Sunday was still up. So, let’s talk about it for a bit. The plan for the weekend was just to take it easy and relaxing, like some naps and more naps every afternoon. However, this morning my aunt called to inform us that my cousin went to Ozamis City yesterday for her prenatal checkup, and the doctor didn’t send her home anymore because of hypertension. Oh gosh! This view instead of naps, not bad ;) So, my cousin is in her seventh month of pregnancy, and she’s been experiencing high blood pressure ever since she got pregnant. The doctor already prescribed her maintenance medicine to normalize it, but lately she noticed that it won’t go down lower than 140/100 mmHg. Thus, I think her anxiety kicked her blood pressure more further during her check up yesterday that it reached 190/110 mmHg. Crazy, right?! The doctor advised her to get admitted and might perform a Cesarean section as soon as the blood pressure goes back to normal. Everyone is worried thinking about the baby, who might be born early at seven months. My aunt wanted me to travel with her to Ozamis to visit her daughter, and assured me that we will return before night time because I have work Monday. So, off we go! We left around 9 o’clock in the morning, and the sun was grueling hot. We have to save every penny to spend with other important stuff, so we have to commute via bus, then barge from Mukas to Ozamis. The fare for the barge if you have a car is much more expensive now since the gas price soared from months ago. It is still wiser to commute nowadays, unless you travel by group I think. The barge approaching the port of Ozamis City. Lower deck are filled with vehicles. Upper deck is for the passengers. We arrived already lunch time in Ozamis. I’m hungry already and I suggested that we should drop by to have our lunch first before heading to the hospital. We buy some fruits, water and bread as well after grabbing lunch. Thanks to technology nowadays because it’s easier to communicate when emergency situations arise such as this. My cousin beforehand called her mom to bring them some clothes because they got nothing to change. Aunt also brings a blanket, and a travel pillow that can be converted into a small rectangular pillow. Everything was packed in a rush, I hope we brought enough for them to use. We went home before dusk and my aunt was murmuring why in Ozamis City, when Iligan is more accessible. Anyway, that’s their choice as a couple so what can we do, right? We can’t ignore them now, now that they needed extra help. As for me, I don’t have much money to spare, but I can be handy as long as I have time and energy. So, that's how Sunday was for me. Now, off to bed. Good night! Thanks for reading! Lead image and all photos by me All Original Content (unless specified otherwise) 11/27/2022 ©️ LykeLyca Write articles and join us! Cleanliness Is a Mindset In my childhood days my grandmother would usually remind us about cleanliness. If there is someone who could influence me about cleaning up and organizing things I guess it would be her. Actually, I first hear this quote from her; She would often nag me for a messy room. She hated to see my soiled clothes anywhere, and would wake me up so early so I could find time to help sweep the floor both in my bedroom and the living room. Right after sweeping the floor, she would intentionally walk barefoot across the room to check-smooth surface means clean and the opposite means sweeping it again. Well, I used to hate her for that, but now I realized that her teachings molded me for that cleanliness mindset. However, not as strict as her, because as I grew up, I realized that some people don’t have this attitude and I should not stress myself for that. Anyway, I was reminded of the 'good old days with grandma in the house' while reading some trending articles from the FIFA World Cup, not from the game actually but for the Japanese players and supporters display of discipline and cleanliness. Wednesday, Japan and Germany had a football match and the latter was the winner. Japan also won the hearts of the people when they cleaned their benches in the stadium before leaving, the players also left their changing room “spotless” of any trash. This was the photo I’ve seen from Philstar news Facebook page, originally from Fifa.com Twitter. This is a great example for the whole world, that cleanliness is a mindset. The team must’ve been very excited and overjoyed with the result of the game, but that was not an excuse for them to leave the place filled with mess. There is always a time to clean and celebrate, for sure. On a side note, just recently, there was an issue circulating on different social media platforms when the management of a certain beach resort in Davao Oriental posted on Facebook how untidy and messy the guests left the villa they had rented overnight. The management posted the photos and indeed it was a total mess, though I believe nothing was broken or damaged, but I just hope that guests could at least dispose of their rubbish in the garbage bins. I understand that guests can be so preoccupied, and we, as guests, were billed including housekeeping, but our attitude towards others and our environment is a display of who we are so keeping decency with the things we use (and rent) is also important. Anyhow, I still believe that the management made a wrong call about disclosing their guests to the public. That could be their downfall. **CLEAN AS YOU GO** This has been a famous line everywhere, I think it’s really good to practice it. Unfortunately, some people won’t do it. Last week in Cagayan de Oro, we had our lunch at Burger King and I noticed this reminder written on the table- 'Clean as you go.' These plastic cups and wrappers from burgers, fries etc. in most fastfood restaurants are so easy to dispose of, and bins are accessible as well. In other countries, this has been widely practiced already, we should start now too. Anyway, I’m glad that authorities are now encouraging people to do it, at least this small reminder would help them understand that **cleanliness should be a responsibility for oneself and our expression of love for others.** Let's do it! - Nike :) Thanks for reading guys and spread the love... Crazy Tornado In The Hood How crazy the weather could become nowadays? Yesterday I saw the photos posted by some people on social media where their cars are buried in snow. Today, we had pleasant weather in the morning, then a crazy tornado surprised the city at around four in the afternoon. How crazy was that? So, we had a normal day at work today. During lunch time we went out to buy food and we’re on our umbrellas because the sun was scorching hot. We got so busy afterwards with our patients, the outpatient department was in full house. Later, we noticed that it rained so hard, we didn’t even mind it because we’re so preoccupied with work. Then, suddenly, we lost power and electricity, but apparently that did not disrupt us long enough because the backup generator came in a jiffy. We finished work around five o’clock already and while we walked out of the hospital, we were all distraught to hear the tornado that wreaked some areas in the city along Hinaplanon river. While browsing on Facebook, I’ve seen this reel shared by my sister, and it was a glimpse of the tornado in St. Michael’s College, Iligan City. I tried checking if there’s a video uploaded on YouTube, but there were none. So, you can check the reel from here. Mind you, the school is a bit far from the river, but still it was that strong. I can’t imagine the fear felt by the students still having their classes that time. I have seen an article from Manila Bulletin regarding the incident and it affects more or less ten zones along the river. https://www.facebook.com/reel/880627116635182?s=yWDuG2&fs=e&mibextid=Nif5oz https://mb.com.ph/2020/11/24/tornado-wreaks-havoc-in-parts-of-iligan-city/#:~:text=ILIGAN%20CITY%20%E2%80%93%20A%20tornado%20barreled,damaged%2C%20and%20113%20families%20affected. This is just sad for the people affected by the tornado and the flash flood. This must have brought horrific memories from the people affected by Typhoon Sendong that happened some years back during the holidays when it killed thousands of people in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Storm_Washi Just surprising that there was no warning whatsoever from the local authorities before this happened. If this is what climate change brings now and then, I think it's time that we need to take care of Mother Earth. Lastly, I pray for the people affected by this calamity. May they find the strength and courage to face the damages it has caused to them physically and emotionally, and also to their properties. I'm sure the local government will be assisting them, but I hope they will receive enough help in this time of crisis. God bless us all and take care wherever you are. Thanks for reading! Shopee Payday 'Budol' I don't know if you're familiar with the word 'budol,' but in case not, here's the definition I got from Google before I proceed writing how my Sunday went featuring the things I got from Shopee. **Budol means** **getting convinced to buy something you saw online because someone said it is good**. My mom wanted to organize her stocks in the store, and told me that those plastic shelves she find from Robinson's will do. I got to check it out two weeks ago, but I don't like it. Primarily because of the color, they only have the white one in stock and I don't think it's a good idea to use it in my mom's store. We live near the national road, it's a busy street of any vehicles all day and the dust settles fast in every corner, the white shelf will look so untidy later on. Secondly, she already has the plastic shelves and it deforms so easily after moving it from one place to another. So, I suggested that she could customize it, we can buy wood and hire a carpenter to make one. But, the neighbor we knew who can do the job isn't available so this won't be a good option either. While browsing Shopee, I was surprised that there are pretty and space-saving shelves sold online. I most often check the reviews and ratings of whatever item that interest me on any shopping platforms, and by far the products I have seen have commendable write ups, some even said that it's easy to assemble. There are videos and photos included in the reviews and the shelves looks pretty sturdy and good for me. The price is reasonable too! I bought it during the payday sale because of the discount, the 4-layer rack only cost P850 (roughly $15), and got a one-layer kitchen rack too for P359 (approx. $7). However, during check out, I realized the shipping fee was expensive. But, my mom loves it, so we bought the items via cash on delivery. And, viola! We received it yesterday, and today we've been trying our best to assemble the DIY puzzle. lol! My mom was so surprised receiving the parcel yesterday, she said the delivery guy had a really awful time carrying it, hahah! Oh my, I think it weighs around 15-20 kilograms! LOL! That I guess explains the amount of the shipping fee. We assembled it today, my father volunteered to do it. I helped him decipher the pieces with the help of that wee bit confusing instruction in Chinese language. So, it wasn't very useful at all, but the pictures will do. My nephew helped too, but not a really good helper as well. My dad started with the kitchen rack and it was so easy to build. Dad finished it in just a few minutes, no sweat. I so love it, it looks really durable and minimalistic. The size is fairly big to fit in mom's oven toaster underneath it and a few of other stuffs above. Now, the shelf rack has the most number of pieces to put together. Apparently, it's a steel rack, thus it was really heavy. I guess we built the first layer already and realized that we made a mistake and have to redo it again. I suggested that perhaps we have to organize the pieces in groups and visualize it before putting it all together. We did and finished it for like almost an hour, hahah! But, I guess if I have to do another round of building it I could finish it in a heartbeat, lol! Just kidding. Anyway, we are all satisfied with our online purchase. The shelf and kitchen rack are really useful and looks durable. So, I hope this would last longer. Mind you, I have written an article here before about my online 'budol' of some great DIY stuffs on Shopee. I bought a cute side table and a dresser organizer. I'm glad that up until now, both are still on display and truly functional in the house. You can check it out here- "The Best Monday Ever!" https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/the-best-monday-ever-eda4d5d2 Oh yes! It's Monday already and I hope we have the best one! Thanks for reading! Do Women Make More Fuss About Anything than Men? Hello! Sigh. I got hooked watching reels again on Instagram, that seemed to be one of my guilty pleasures. I hate it because it’s a complete waste of time, coz everytime I start watching one or two I end up spending half an hour flipping up and up some more. Tonight, while on my phone again, I’m glad that I didn’t reach thirty minutes watching reels, well just almost, like a minute short, lol! Anyway, while browsing my Facebook homepage I've read some posts from people who love to advertise their problems on social media. And, it is surprising that women had more tendency to exaggerate virtually all types of complaints and ailments than men. Well, personally, I thought men led the field in this case, but now I think women make more fuss about anything. Usually, we can hear more wives and mothers protesting *“Oh, you should see my husband when he has a fever!”* or “*You have to take these supplements now before that gets worse.”* I think this just shows that women are more expressive about their concerns with their partner or family. And, usually women are more verbal in terms of expressing what they think. Moreover, it is always better to freely express ourselves, when we unload those pains and burdens inside us it gives us that momentary relief. However, while observing my mom and dad, I noticed that our old man makes more fuss than my mother, especially if he is not feeling well, he would repeatedly say *“Ugh, I have a headache.”* But never makes an effort to limit himself playing Wordscapes on his phone, and can’t even take his own Blood Pressure with the digital BP sitting in the corner of our house. Perhaps, elderly men are like this, eh? One reason why we exaggerate ourselves when we are sick is because we are seeking more attention from someone. The same reason why we broadcast our worries online. Is this true? Well, maybe. But, at this age and time, I think this is far better than to suppress ourselves and lose sanity. I have seen this post on social media that our expressions are good for mental health. It’s a great way to find people who can help us, or perhaps who can talk to us. Indeed, depression and suicide nowadays are truly alarming, and people susceptible to such cases need other people to talk with. Thus, **we only need to respect each other, women or men, we all have equal tendencies to make a fuss of anything. Let’s just stop judging others and start to understand them.** I don't know if that makes sense, but yes, that's it for now. Good night and thanks for reading! One Fine Weekend in Bukidnon, Philippines You usually hear me whine about the routines I usually do 24/7 work-home and vice versa, now that I got the opportunity to go out of town occasionally I start complaining again. Just ironic! Well, I wouldn’t if money is not an issue. So, yes, this is life, but I’m still thankful. I’m so grateful for every little thing. These little trips we had in Bukidnon were family affairs that sometimes I wouldn’t get a chance to do if I’ll be working far from home, thus, I’m grateful to have this time to collect memories with the family now. As this famous quote from *The Purpose Driven Life* goes; "The best use of life is love. The best expression of love is time. The best time to love is now.” ― Rick Warren So, all good. Going back to the topic, we just got back home from our trip in Bukidnon. I think my father missed traveling there ever since he got a mild stroke last 2019 and the pandemic. My mom hasn't permitted him to go on long distance trips since then, but when we traveled to Davao City last week, I think our old man finally got the stamina, and insisted on going back for his (other) brother’s birthday. My mom agreed, but she insisted that I should go with him. I can’t say no because two of my siblings can’t, so I got no choice actually. Let’s go! I finished early working with two of my homecare patients Friday morning, so off we left before lunch. My mom insisted that we should leave early and traverse the long and winding road of Talakag province while the sun is up, glad we did and arrive at my uncle’s place before sundown. I know it’s risky to travel at night, and at that time we didn’t have great weather. It rained when we reached Cagayan de Oro, and continuously poured all the way to our destination. We had a sleep-over in my brother’s house, and my dad enjoyed playing with his three little grandkids who would cry and nag each other from time to time while playing. It’s a joy to see our old man play referee, lol! Coz, when my siblings and I would fight when we’re kids, my dad wouldn't be a referee, he was a judge, and adjudicate our punishment. Well, my brother and I just smiled, watching him now. The weather in Bukidnon can be unpredictable, we went to my uncle’s place in the morning and it drizzled. The road was even so foggy, and the weather was so cold, that I regret just wearing a cardigan. We’re so glad that the weather went fine in the afternoon, and we were able to go around the place. Though the road outside was muddy and a bit slippery, my dad still went out for a walk while we helped my uncle’s helper harvest some sweet potatoes for us to bring home. Early Sunday morning, we traveled back home. We brought some vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower from my brother’s harvest, sweet potatoes from my uncle and chayote or vegetable pear from my cousin’s. My mom was so happy with it, and some of our neighbors as well, lol! There is enough blessing to share! I cooked the sweet potatoes this afternoon, and it’s great to eat something that I harvested straight from the ground. I’ll just dip it with brown sugar and my taste buds will be happy! Let’s eat! This would be all for now and have a great week ahead everyone! Thanks for reading! The Bustling Halloween Week I'm back! I've been missing in action for exactly eight days, and I missed the routine- working and writing in between. So, how was everyone?! My last article was all about our bundle of joy, my nephew, celebrating his 8th birthday, and he had a blast indeed. That was last week's Monday, the inception of the bustling Halloween week. The day started so early at work with a patient for discharge, I intend to finish before lunch so I can head over to my nephew's birthday party in the beach just a few minutes from home. It was really refreshing, the adults enjoyed the chitchat, the mommy invited her highschool friends and a couple had kids almost the same age with my nephew. The kids had fun swimming and playing on the beach and with the sand. When I asked our cute little boy if he enjoyed his birthday party, his reply was "*it's the best birthday ever!*" Lol! I thought, the innocence and simplicity of a kid's mind is just heartwarming! Anyway, after the birthday party was "All Soul's and Saints day," and apparently we celebrated these days traditionally here in the Philippines - by offering flowers, and candles for our dearly departed. As usual, just like last year, we went to my grandparents' province, an hour land trip from home. My aunt prepared some great food and we had a great time the rest of the day, it was like a reunion, a #halloweenreunion as some people on social media call it. We traveled back home tired but happy. I thought I'll be off to start work the next day, but no. While we had dinner that evening, we received a bad news from my father's brother in Davao. I've written a few months ago that my uncle was diagnosed with Liver Cancer and has been receiving immunotherapy treatments that costs a fortune. He just had his 6th treatment last month, and he got a bit better. Unfortunately, now, he just had a hemorrhagic stroke, paralyzing the left side of his body. His condition got complicated, just sad really. My father had decided to visit him, especially that my dad was his closest sibling. My mom won't allow our old man to travel alone, like driving alone at his age, so I have to go with him. It was an emotional rollercoaster ride while we were in Davao, we're happy to see some of my dad's siblings and cousins coming too, but we're just so distraught for what happened. We left Davao in tears, I hate to leave my uncle because he was such a fighter, he even wanted to undergo Physical Therapy to recover. We passed by Bukidnon before heading home because another relative of ours passed away. My father's uncle died at the age of 89. Sigh. Not a great November to start, but I thank God for the safe travels and the reunions, no matter how sad, tiring and draining. Before heading home, we had breakfast here at Ayahay in Lantapan, Bukidnon and the view of the mountain was just so wonderful and refreshing. I'm so glad that we dropped by. That sums up the bustling week, I hope to finally get back writing and interacting with y'all! Thanks for reading! He is turning 8! A blessed Sunday to all! Again, I was missing in action for some days, life happens as usual. But, it’s Sunday, perhaps I should make another personal article for y’all. Anyhow, today we had great weather, no more raining and not humid either, so it’s a fun time to go out, and more reason to write something. My sister came home Friday night from Manila, and everyone was surprised, including me. This was really unexpected, we thought she’s only coming home for the New Year, but she got a couple of vouchers to spend from Cebu Pacific Air, so she took advantage of the long weekend. And, this got me busy, going out at night and the chit chats made me preoccupied the past few days that I barely have time to write. Anyway, tomorrow will be my nephew’s birthday and he will be turning eight! This got me busy too today. We went out to have his photo shoot, again another unexpected event. The mommy only wanted to make it simple, but apparently when I bought some balloons, my sister who came home from Manila insisted that we should go out and take some pictures of my nephew. Everyone agreed! So we went to a park near here this afternoon and took some snaps! I would love to share some of the photos here, but the mommy said NO, sigh. So, maybe this candid picture of him when he was already playing with the monkey bars at the park would be safe to share. That’s my nephew, Jeione, he will be eight tomorrow. He is a bit big for his age, I don’t know how, lol! He left for La Union last 2020 and he was wee smaller, lol! When he got back here after two years, we’re surprised that he grew really big, actually he is the tallest and the healthiest in his class now. But, he is still our adorable baby, that I love to hug like a huge pillow at night, lol! Since it's Halloween, he insisted to wear that shirt with the face of a pumpkin, and tried to scare us, but he is just so cute to be scary, haha! We will be going to the beach tomorrow, so everyone is sound asleep now, especially the mommy because she will be doing some cooking early morning. I have a patient in the morning too, that means I won't be helping her in the kitchen, haha! I sponsored a cake for him, with a Naruto design, that I will pick up after my patient in the morning. Hopefully, I would come in time for his luncheon party at the beach and I hope he will have a blast! I think this would be all for now, bed time for me and thanks for reading! Inspiring Evening Musings Good evening everyone! Happy Hump Wednesday! How does midweek feels like? As for me, I’m just chillin’ around, less patients for home visit this week, so all good. I have heaps of “me time” and Netflix marathon going around in between. I woke up early today for a morning walk, just so refreshing! I tried the route going up to the hilly part of our place, the route where I shared a horrible incident once in this article “A Blessing in Disguise.” Though there is a part of me that is still in fear, but this morning was just so wonderful and His word today was so inspiring that I could just brush off that tinge of fear aside and conquer it! https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/a-blessing-in-disguise-5dab1960 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. - Lamentations 3: 22-23 Everything is just a prayer away. Sometimes we thought that we could no longer enjoy some small things in life because of fear and past traumas in life. But, NO. We have to face it one day and say that our faith is bigger than our fears! Anyway, moving forward. Walks can be a great opportunity to catch up with some old friends too. I had a chit chat with a high school friend while walking. She shared with me that soon they will be migrating to Canada with her husband and 2 kids. This has been their plan pre-pandemic and even though she’s happy that the processing went well and might be leaving soon, but still anxiety weakens her thinking that their chance of raising getaway money is mighty slim. The financial requirement just went up now when the doors opened up again after Covid19, they were even surprised to know about it, but then it’s a waste to cancel everything, so I guess they’ll just have to keep on pushing. Sigh. I can totally relate to their predicament. I know that for the most of us, life froze during pandemic. It seems that we lost track of everything. However, we should not get discouraged. Life is like that. When you’re starting out again, the first small step back up the ladder is often the hardest and the most important. We only need to brave up and persevere that we are doing this not only for ourselves but also for our family. So, yes! Let’s just keep on pushing. I left her with my all-time-favorite verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” - Proverbs 3: 5-6 I hope you got this verse inspiring too, and seize every challenge with courage and determination, knowing that you are not alone. xo Thanks for reading! Arcade Sunday Hello readcashers! It's Sunday night here in this side of the world and for a few hours from now it's going to be another busy start of the week. I'm just happy that my Sunday wasn't so busy. I finished my patient at around 2pm, and when I got home my sister was preparing to leave for some errands at the mall. My nephew wanted to go, so off we go! The arcade is the most favorite place in the mall my nephew loves to go, but before heading there we had a quick stop at EO optical because my eyes I guess needed a help. Now, I got my glasses and all good. Ops! I love the thought that my nephew and I wear the same slippers today, so I took a snap! I think it's cute that we have twinning slippers while bonding. And, oppss! for that nasty crack on the floor. While the mommy was busy with her business, me and my nephew went straight to Tom's World! The happiest place in Iligan City (according to my nephew, lol!) We had an hour to enjoy our favorite games in the arcade, as his mommy said that we need to meet her for some snacks later. I am hoping to get pizza, but we had wanton soup instead because the rain poured hard and hardest outside. Anyway, back to the arcade, he played some of his favorite games, but still he got hooked playing the claw crane, however not to get some toys but to get more of the slot cards. I was wondering why would he spend all his time there when all the rest of the games are more fun to play, later I learned that he has done really great and very skillful in dealing with the crane. He actually got more cards than from the rest of the other games in the arcade. I, on the other hand, enjoyed fishing! It's not my talent really, but in the arcade I can be really very good at it. Now you know! Haha! Yeah, it's so easy tapping the button while playing prey for those great big fishes in the machine. Can you see that big flat fish on the screen? That's one of the fishes that gives heaps of slot cards. Though pulling that fish to my side won't be easy sometimes, because with me are five more players working on the same machine and eyeing on the same fishes. I might sound so good, but no. My nephew actually got more slot cards than me from the claw crane. See! Kids are really better than the adults in the arcade. I so love this happy diversion before the week ends. I felt energized and refreshed for the upcoming week, while my nephew really had a great time that he fell asleep so fast on bed tonight. What a great way to spend Sunday! Thanks for everything! Some Thoughts About - Doll House I’m not thinking of buying one for myself or for anyone, but I love to write about it… its Doll House from Netflix. This movie has made some noise recently on social media, it became top 1 movie on Netflix Philippines, and it has been a topic from my colleagues at work. I just shrugged it off, of course, because I haven’t watched it yet. So, tonight while browsing Netflix about what to watch next, I skipped the series and considered watching this short film. Oh my! Indeed, as I heard, I consumed a roll of tissue as I finished it. Sob** Doll House is a Filipino film, and certainly watching it in our language, I guess, made it more dramatic. It’s about a confused father, Tito Clyde/ Rustin, who is a rockstar and a drug addict. The drama started when he tried to rekindle his relationship with his daughter- Yumi, whom he abandoned eight years ago in Rotterdam. My heart just broke into pieces for the little girl in the movie. However, I’m torn between feeling sad or hating the character of the father, because drug addicts are just awful. I mean, they can be horrible to some extent. Apparently, I pity him though because he obviously loves his daughter. I attached the trailer here from YouTube, please do check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws9jDMZqkJo The most tear-jerking part of the movie for me was the monologue of Rustin in the cemetery at the grave of his ex-wife. I can feel his regret over his past decisions and longingness for his daughter, and to be called a father. I thought that this could've been a turning point for him. A new beginning and a brand new life away from drug addiction. However, the story didn't end that way. And, that irritates me as a viewer. It could've a happy ending for the father and daughter, but no. Instead, Rustin helplessly caught in drug addiction again after his father died. Not long after, he got a stroke that compromises his memory. Sad but this is the reality for Rustin. Drug addiction is just a horrible vice and making decisions can go so bad. I just hope that Rustin could have been braver in facing all the troubles than resorting in the pretentious high effect of the prohibited drug. We can never be a good judge of character, people like Rustin can look tough and strong on the outside, but he has been weak and superficial with his decisions. I bet he neglected the family life because being a family man can be demanding, and regretted that being a father for Yumi could have been wonderful. But, whatever reason, drug addiction will always be a bad escape, there is always something better than that. I hope this still left some lesson for us. Thanks for reading! You Only Live Once This adage is very popular and a favorite of so many people, indeed we need to enjoy life for whatever reason we have, we deserve joy and happiness in this lifetime. However, we also need to think of our safety while pursuing happiness, and sometimes that’s what we always miss to think about when we dare to explore those extreme sports and adventures around the world. I remember five years ago, I dared to go whitewater rafting in Cagayan de Oro City. It was a four-hour adrenaline rush in the waters of the Cagayan River. Before the adventure and the paddling started, we had a short lecture about the do’s and don’ts, some basic instructions and what to expect along the way. Initially, the rapids were a bit tolerable, until it went wild and I can’t imagine how I surpassed it. I think I prayed a lot at the back of my mind and promised myself not to do it again. I finished the course with a long jump in that huge rock at the calm end of the river, a big sigh of relief and a short prayer that I lived the ordeal. Then, I took the Zipline across the Macahambus Park, it’s like a really huge cave with a park inside. You can traverse the other end by walking through the very long hanging bridge suspended approximately 20 meters below, and go back via the Zipline. Again, my adventurous self tried it, as I had my first 20 steps on the bridge I wanted to go back, but had no way to do it because 5 more people were behind. Sigh. I just prayed all the way till the end. Just funny that we dare to take these kinds of adventures and pray real hard for our safety. I bet God would love to give me a poke in the head, haha! Anyway, I was supposed to write about this when I heard about what happened to one of the contestants in the Enduro motorcycle race last September 2022 that started its race here in Iligan City. One of the really competitive riders died on the spot after completing 20 kilometers in just 5 minutes! Seriously crazy, right? That must be a great achievement for him, but unfortunately he landed on his grave. Today, we had a postoperative fracture patient who raced with him at that time, and I was in disbelief as she narrated her experience with the race. She said that the accident happened in Maramag, Bukidnon, already at 2 o’clock in the morning, so possibly she had fallen asleep while driving. She was still denying it at first because she kept insisting that she would stop for a break every time she’s feeling sleepy or really very hungry. The really sad part of this experience was, no one from the racer stopped to help her. Sigh. Indeed, it was a race and it’s an advantage for others if someone got into trouble. She got help from a local in the area who happened to pass by. Now, she’s recovering and on Physical Therapy to walk again. It’s just crazy how we pursue happiness in life, isn’t it ironic to think that we only live once and yet we gamble it on sports and adventures that could put an end to it. I wonder if we could have nine lives like the cats, how would we live life then? That would be all, and leaving you with this; YOLO! Thanks for reading! World Food Day Howdy yummy Sunday! Let’s talk about food, why not? Today, October 16, we celebrate World Food Day. I know there’s no point in celebrating it because there is no day that we don’t think about food, apparently we’re thinking about it three times a day, and for some, five to six times depending on your mood, or hormones, lol! However, the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization established this day as such not for all our gluttonous eating pleasures, rather to promote world food security especially for parts of the world that has problems with poverty. Furthermore, to raise awareness about countries suffering from hunger and starvation, and inadequate supply of water. Unfortunately, a lot of people in the world are not getting enough food, to think that this is one of man's very basic needs to survive. So, today, I pray that people around the world are having enough food on their plates to live another day. I have seen the news from the Manila Bulletin today regarding the World Food day theme from the Department of Education; **“Leave no one behind. Better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life for all."** - World Food Day theme Obviously, it aims to educate us that we all need healthy food, diet, and nutrition. It is cognizant that nowadays food has been mostly instant from fast foods and restaurants, brought about by the influx of food delivery service made affordable and convenient because of technology. Most of the busy people in the working class would opt for junk foods and easy to prepare food packs, not to mention sodas, fruit juices in tetra packs, coffee etc. are widely accessible even on vending machines. With our demanding lifestyle and technology, we resort to unhealthy food choices and lose the significance of the balanced diet and nutrition that predisposes us to health risks and diseases. Sad, but true. Last week, I handled one in-patient, an endomorph teenager, 19 years old, who experienced a Cerebrovascular Accident or Stroke. Certainly, not a disease for the elderly anymore. During history taking, we found out that the kid has been on a drinking spree for two consecutive days! Seriously, this left me flabbergasted. Food, and every little pleasure we ingest, will somehow affect our body positively and negatively. It is always our personal responsibility to be conscious of what kind of food we indulge. It is also imperative to know the healthy food pyramid, even the grade schoolers know about this. Guess, we should also review which is which? So, are we still mindful about our food and diet? I admit, I have completely forgotten about this food pyramid that serves like a basic reminder on how to balance the kind of foods I am eating. While thinking about what to include in this article I realized that we all need to be reminded once again. Lastly, World Food Day would be a great opportunity to look into the popular foods our country have, I bet my foreign friends from here would also love to explore. Once There Was a Child Named Smarty Smarty wasn’t her real name, I just thought that every child in the world is smart to think and say out loud adorable things with so much innocence. So yeah, meet Smarty! This article was conceptualized when I’ve read @Creepymeow ’s article “What you wanted to be when you grow up when you were a child?” I think I can partially answer the question from this write up, so let me hide myself in the name of Smarty, not that I’m smart, but because I was a child then. https://read.cash/@Creepymeow/what-you-wanted-to-be-when-you-grow-up-when-you-were-a-child-ea7c10eb I laughed thinking about creepymeow’s answer because she wanted to be a cat, ops sorry, that’s a spoiler alert for my readers who wanted to go back reading her article, but please do read. Anyway, that was just so cute, right! She’s a cat lover for sure. Moreover, I can’t help but laugh out loud, thinking about Smarty because when she was a child she wanted to be a crocodile, but I bet she will be the first friendly crocodile in the world! Lol! The alter ego of Smarty has written this article here: “If I Were a Crocodile.” I guess, she's the only child in the world who wanted to become such an animal, haha! That must be very funny, but I love Smarty’s last line from this article. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/if-i-were-a-crocodile-2b402e23 "For every flaw that we have, we need to grateful for who we are today. I don't need to be perfect, I can't wait to be rich, and I don't need to be brilliant to thank God that I am existing wonderfully as I am." ~~Aww, truly inspiring.~~ When Smarty was little, her cousin had a pet Iguana and it resembles like a crocodile, you have to read "Iggy's Adventure in the Wild" and learn perhaps her attachment with Iggy sparked that dream of becoming a crocodile when Smarty was still a child. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/iggys-adventure-in-the-wild-4bc2f515 I want to believe that, but mind you, Smarty has been bullied on her childhood days too, so maybe she wanted to be that fierce and scary crocodile to ward off those bullies out of her life. You see, kids really have those cute and amazing ways to deal with the petty troubles back then. Meanwhile, while writing this article it reminded me of my nephew when he was younger. Their teacher gave them this question "“What You Want to be in the Future?” He adoringly answered, "I want to be myself." :D Why? Check out "Be Yourself." https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/be-yourself-7301010f P.S. I enjoyed reading back my previous articles, I don't know that they can be inspiring reminders for me nowadays. Just Some Random Words Again… and again… I don’t know what to write about, so scribbling my articles from here, I thought that, err… let me try again this prompt that has been very popular from yesterday. The prompt is to generate five or more random words from this site- randomwordgenerator.com, and just write anything about it. https://randomwordgenerator.com/ And, here’s what I got: Let’s start. Feeling This is just so ironic. I’ve been feeling really off these past days, I felt that I’ve been procrastinating a lot, and it seems that I don’t have the drive to chase those dreams anymore. I admit, I’ve been so negatively torn and unmotivated about life. However, I obviously don’t want to talk or write about it so today I just pulled out my last card to play - *prompts*. Apparently, this word generator could, I guess, read our minds and shove me to write a bit of what I’m feeling, so yah, that’s it. Grave Wow! This is totally random, indeed. For the sake of discussion, grave, for me, is the end and a beginning of something. As a Christian, I believe that there is life after death and the grave is not our final resting place. In the afterlife, we will reap what we sow, there is joy or suffering, heaven or hell. Moreover, this bitter life now will be better later, not a suffocating grave six feet under, but a brighter light above the heavens. Exemption Who is exempted from all the troubles and adversities in life? Our plate is always full of it. Anyone, rich or poor, young or old, popular or not, we all have a fair share of struggles and that makes us unique from each other. Thus, how can we judge one from another? I’ve been watching Taxi Driver recently on Netflix, and it’s sad to see bad things happen to good people, and vice versa, no exemptions. However, there is justice for all, one day or another, if the law won’t give a just sentence, karma will. Half My heart is torn in half. This would be the best input for this word at the moment. It reminded me of this verse; **"A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."** -James 1:8 Such a great wisdom, but we fall short of being half broken with our decisions in life. Why? Because, life is about choices. Carve This must be the happy part of this post. The other day, a colleague of mine came from a family vacation in Boracay, Philippines, and she brought us this present. It’s a turtle! Of course, not a real one. It’s carved delicately cute and tiny, and it's amazing how talented the locals of Aklan. Gifts like this make me want to go and explore the places they’ve visited. So, inspire me! If you happen to go far, anywhere in the world, a keychain will be a good present for me, hehe! Thank you for reading! I love the #promptfactory community, but it seems it has been silent for some time, so I created Check The Prompts community, a collection of prompts and ideas inspiring to write. Let's start here. The Mysterious Cave Painting It happened on an afternoon in the summer a few months ago. One middle aged amateur archaeologist was on his knees digging in the rubble at the mouth of the recently discovered cave in my grandparents' ancestral place. I don’t know why I was with them, perhaps I have been assisting the kid who was so persistent to explore the cave with his dad, the archaeologist. Suddenly, from the depths of a side chamber, came the muffled scream of his ten-year-old son, *“A cat! Papa, come quickly!”* Alarmed, the man dropped his pick and darted into the area where the little girl stood frantic pointing at the ceiling. Raising his flashlight in the direction of the girls fingers, I know, like me, he felt his hair stand on end as he saw the drawings on the cave wall, not only a cat, but prehistoric Saber-tooth Tiger, magnificently painted in lifelike poses, standing, pawing the ground, lying down, curled in sleep, rolling in the dust or dying of spear wounds. Exploring further in the labyrinth, we found dozens of other painted and engraved animals, like lions, wooly mammoth, rhinoceros, and so much more. The momentous discovery was to open a great door on a totally unsuspected era of human history. The archaeologist knew immediately that the murals were unimaginably ancient. Most of the animals so vividly depicted were either extinct or had disappeared hundred centuries ago. Everyone in the village celebrated that night with the archaeologist and his son. I got bored with the singing, eating and laughing, so I have decided to go back inside the cave. An old woman appeared as I was about to enter, and told me that she also wanted to take a glimpse of the ancient drawings. We went in and I was so surprised to see her lying down staring at the drawings in the ceiling. A few minutes later, I was lured into imitating her. While lying down on my back in a padded niche of the rock platform, I had been gazing up at the huge scary tiger for perhaps five minutes. Then the old woman murmured in our dialect, *“Do you see it yet?”* *“See what?”* I asked. *“Keep looking,”* she said. I stared for another few minutes until, suddenly, it hit me. *“They’re breathing!”* I gasped. *“I can see their muscles quivering!”* *“Yes,”* the old woman nodded with a smile. *“Hundred of centuries old and still alive,”* She continued. She grabbed my hand, and I woke up from my sleep. It’s already morning. Ah! Yes! Just a dream, lol! This must be the result of binge watching Jumanji with my niblings. All weird things can happen really. I've been missing in action for some days, sorry guys, I'll be catching up. Before I end, heaps of thanks to @Pichi28 @Bloghound @JLoberiza @Infinity for the sponsorship renewal. Thanks for reading! Entangled with Separation Anxiety Hello everyone! I actually don’t have any idea what to write today, so let me tell you something totally random, like my dilemma every night time with my cutie patotie clingy nephew. Last September, my sister’s husband left for work overseas. It was a blessing because they’ve been so hard up for the past couple of years when the company he worked with in Dubai stopped its operations because of the pandemic. While the mom and my nephew were adjusting, they’ve decided to live with us here in Iligan City, like usual. They arrived the second week of September from La Union, and we’re all happy, because my nephew is adorable to be with (and the mommy is a good cook, lol!). However, since then, it seems that my nephew is having separation anxiety sleeping without his daddy. Mind you, he has been always jolly and typically energetic as always. The only problem for me was every night during his bedtime, he kept on insisting that I should sleep beside him with his mommy. And, he would cry or get mad if I didn't sleep with them. So, the kind “tita” would pretend to sleep and sometimes fall helplessly asleep because sometimes work in the daytime is tiring! So, I got entangled with this separation anxiety kind of crisis with my nephew, and though I started loving it because it helped me tuck in bed earlier. I’m just sad that I’m starting to have less time writing and engaging here. Oftentimes, I would return to my room at around 11.30pm or past 12 midnight already. Then, when I started to recollect my thoughts to compose something, my mind would instead do otherwise. Yes! My sleepyhead would pull me back to sleep. Though, sometimes, I try to force myself to write something, and while scribbling some old unfinished drafts, and try my hardest to publish, later then my mind would end up active again and it seems that my sleep hormones just left my senses. Sigh. The past night, that was Monday perhaps, I’m really struggling to go back to sleep after waking up from my slumber at 1am. I think it was already past 3am when I was able to sleep again, and it was an agony to deal with at work. I was really sleepy the entire day, I got a headache and was very unproductive with my online hassles. Well, obviously, can't cope up with my pace lately. Anyway, I love to hang out with my nephew as much as possible because I miss him dearly. Among my nephews, he is the only one very clingy to me because I used to babysit him so often when he was younger. So, I guess we have that bond. Still, I’m hoping that this separation anxiety crisis disappears sooner, because this erratic sleeping habit is just making me out of sorts, unhealthy. Thanks for reading guys and I definitely need to sleep now. Hopefully, I need to decipher time and priorities to get back on track away from this irregularity. Ciao! I Used to be Famous NO, not me. Just the title of this tear jerking movie that I watched earlier. Hello world! It's Sunday and I tried to sneak a bit of 'me' time after receiving an on - call job in the hospital for a patient for discharge this morning. So, right after I finished the PT for the patient at around 11.30am, I rushed home, grabbed lunch and watched a good movie while trying to get a power nap. Unfortunately, that didn't work because the movie was just so engaging from start to finish. I Used to be Famous, is a heart warming story of a boy band superstar, Vince, who once in his youth experienced that “pop idol” moment in the entertainment world. Apparently, that popularity didn’t last long when his brother died and perhaps that loss took the best out of him. Now, when he tried to desperately redeem the career he lost some years back, his life got entangled with an autistic teenager, Stevie, who has so much love for music and connected with him as a bandmate and a friend. I got this movie trailer on YouTube attached here so you could check it out real quick, and take a glimpse of this inspiring story that can really give us lots of lessons about the life most of us are experiencing - family and friendships, rejection, authenticity, priorities, and etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7zP4ccVxYY Anyway, I know you just had a gist of the story, but if you’ll be able to watch, it would be more awesome. However, let me talk about the takeaways I got from this movie. Rejection Honestly, I think Vince has the most persistent and unwavering personality. I can’t imagine how many times he was rejected up front by pub owners and gig organizers, even some of the locals made jokes about him and his never ending pursuit for a second chance in his singing career. Some people might tell him to get a life away from music, and pursue a practical skill or job, but not Vince. He kept pushing for his dreams! Passion and Patience A lot of us aren’t privileged enough to make a living with the passion we have for certain things. Many would give up on it and would settle for something economical. That’s why I admire the lead actor’s character, the patience for his passion for singing and performing is just commendable. Moreover, the hardship of carrying his instrument every time he searches for chances to perform, pushing and pulling for the trolley that somehow gave up and later replaced with an iron board. Imagine? Friendship Stevie, being autistic, can be weird in a lot of ways for normal people. When he was bullied during their first public performance, Vince defended and protected him even if it could be a downfall for the both of them. Vince also tried to bridge their differences, and in the end still chooses to stay as a friend. Second Chances and Priorities "If you have a second shot, then you really have to take it." These were Stevie’s words when Vince tried to abandon him for a great opportunity to be famous again. It is cognizant as well for a lot of us, I think it’s hard to stop someone from seizing opportunities already at your fingertips. However, the option given to Vince about his music during the contract signing corrupted the authenticity of his songs, and that changes his perspective and priority. Indeed, nothing is constant in this world, anyone and anything can topple us down, and can change our life. We can only get up, move on and keep going, overthrow obstacles and chase opportunities. We don't need to be famous to make a difference in this world, we only need to be ourselves. Thanks for reading! Inspiring read.cash Community I remember a few months back, I wrote this article “Let’s Bloom Together,” and it’s about a metaphorical story of a cocoon growing into a butterfly and bloomed wonderfully in a community of fruit trees, plants and flowers in a garden. As she lived with all the living things around her, she understood her purpose that with each other they would all bloom together. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/lets-bloom-together-d63ceadd Now, in my second year on this platform, I learned that we bloomed together not only with our earnings, but also with the friendship, the camaraderie and lastly the opportunity to be inspired by the hundreds and thousands of inspiring articles from the life of everyone in this community. Through the years, I am always a fan of inspiring stories around here, simply because the world is already toxic enough to cling into the negativities. Like the daily supplements and vitamins we have, we also need that daily dose of humor and laugh, kindness and love, and all the inspiration and motivation we could get to get through life. Thus, the writing prompts about your authentic and inspiring story was conceptualized for my Second Year Anniversary on read.cash. Last year, the prompt was about “celebrations” and I think it ran longer than two weeks that I was able to gather 20+ entries. Unfortunately, this time I have been so busy and just wanted to make a quick one, the prompt ran only for 4 days as planned, but since I got busy again because of our city festival, I have this announcement made today, on its 5th day. Moreover, due to the short notice, I have decided to include inspiring articles from the read.cash front page, a very random pick, but all deserving articles for sure. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/happy-two-years-and-counting-999ccad2 Here are the entries from the Contests and Giveaways community - four inspiring articles with great and amazing stories. https://read.cash/c/contests-and-giveaways-dc09 “How to change your life” by @Tife . He wrote about some of the inspiring characters in the scriptures, and I love how this article awakened me that some of the impossible things we thought are all made possible by God because of faith. We just have to believe! https://read.cash/@Tife./how-to-change-your-life-353de84e “The secret: Show up” by @Murakamii.7 is something so basic yet so important to overcome things that we hate and fear doing. Indeed, the moment we show up to every opportunity, we begin to change things for the better. https://read.cash/@Murakamii.7/the-secret-show-up-d50a873c “Something authentic for LykeLyca” by @fantagira is a great reminder for everyone that beauty or charm is just so superficial. This article will inspire you to go beyond people-pleasing and be authentic, explore learning and move, grow for that sexy you. Yay! Surely, that’s really sexy! https://read.cash/@fantagira/something-authentic-for-lykelyca-0899a543 “Plot Twist: The best is yet to come” by @Pichi28 is a personal experience about how she handled life’s surprises and turned it into something great. It’s amazing that certainly we always have a choice to seize every opportunity that comes our way, indeed, *“the best is yet to come.”* https://read.cash/@Pichi28/plot-twist-the-best-is-yet-to-come-c27561fc My heaps of thanks to these wonderful authors who participated in this giveaway. I'm so sorry for the delay, life happens as usual, but thank you so much from the bottom of my heart (and hypothalamus, lol!) I enjoyed reading all articles so I'm giving away $1 each! Not much, but a sincere gesture. xo! Now, let’s go to the read.cash front page! I have seen heaps of inspiring articles, but some didn’t meet the 3-minute or more read time, so sadly I have to stick with the requirement and check more articles ahead. And, viola! These are my picks! https://read.cash/ “The possibility of the dream gives strength” by @Maonx . It talks about life and dreams, and your options when life takes a detour and changes some unexpected things. https://read.cash/@Maonx/the-possibility-of-the-dream-gives-strength-13e40de1 “The value of listening” by @Winx1988 . Indeed, listening is a very simple gesture, yet impactful to others. Through it, we already helped someone unload their burdens, and that’s just something really great! https://read.cash/@Winx1988/the-value-of-listening-5e4c1852 “One herb that will improve your health” by @George_Dee . As a medical practitioner, I love inspiring articles about health and fitness. The herb that he highlighted here is ginger, which certainly has lots of health benefits. https://read.cash/@George_Dee/one-herb-that-would-improve-your-health-40f3ab31 All three articles/ authors will also receive $1 each. As promised, I will update and add sponsorships to some, please check notifs in a couple of days. Keep inspiring guys and make a difference! Let's continue the wonderful journey of writing our world, inspiring others and explore learning by reading! Thanks heaps read.cash community! When It's Bound to Happen There are some things in life that are beyond our control. No matter how we plan to make it last, and to make it perfect, or just at least to make it work, things can go the other way around. Fate just leads us to things that are bound to happen, good or bad, it just happens. I just hope these are like the rain that would ruin your outfit of the day, or perhaps the stove that runs out of gas when you’re about to start cooking, or the gadget you missed to purchase while it’s on flash sale. Things like this aren’t so big to deal with, we can easily brush it aside, and smile. Unfortunately, at work, some of these things bound to happen can cause something detrimental to another person’s life, or worst can be his/her demise. It’s sad and indeed we are only human and there is far greater than our mind and skills could grasp. Just a few weeks ago, I vented out through an article “Rainy Gloomy Friday” about this patient under my care having a rough patch. Mind you, she bounced back gradually after that hypoglycemic attack, and we continued Physiotherapy since then. My hope for this patient bounced back as well. The past two weeks, I've been training her to stand up by herself, she’s really trying so hard to complete the five minutes of standing we hope to accomplish. I thought that she’s heading forward to recovery, as her physiotherapist I am really hoping we’re heading in that direction. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/rainy-gloomy-friday-72fe93b0 This afternoon, I visited her again for homecare PT, and something unexpected happened. She got another stroke, this time she can no longer talk. Since morning, the caregiver noticed that the patient has been so silent, she only nods and responds with her eyebrows when asked. They thought that she might not be in a good mood. Lunch came and the patient didn’t eat anything. I came around 2pm and I was so surprised, she looked pale and weak, and no matter how I try to create a conversation she’s not responding. I insisted on bringing her to the hospital because I suspected a recurrent stroke and indeed she had. I don’t know how or why, even the caregiver and her son were confused. They’ve been so cautious on the patient’s diet, medicines were given appropriately on time, and I can say the caregiver has been doing her job so well. Still, she got another stroke and now her life is at risk. Sigh. Just sad. Life is just so unfair and futile sometimes. Though, things happen for a reason, and I want to believe that maybe there is something to learn from this experience, but apparently my mind just fails to understand now, I guess. Thanks for reading and sorry for this story for today. I wanted to write something inspiring after reading all positive articles about inspiration from some great writers here, but my heart took me back to what consumes my energy today. Anyway, the mini-giveaway I initiated is still up and running until Wednesday, you can read my previous article for the details if you're interested. Happy Two Years and Counting! Howdy! How are y’all! I wonder who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary, monthsary, weeksary, etc today, because I am! Well, actually, that was supposed to be my intro for my highly anticipated 2nd anniversary read.cash celebration article this September, but apparently I lost track of it as I got so busy juggling work, the weekend lectures we had last week and today, and other personal stuff. Facepalm. That was my reaction earlier as I realized that I’m 10 days late for this celebration, lol! Anyway, bear with me, you’ll love my mini giveaway coming up. So, going back two years ago, exactly September 13, 2020, I started writing on this platform with humble beginnings and anxious thoughts. I know everyone can relate in how we started here because everything is not easy. Anxiety can be a common denominator for a lot of us too, since we know initially that this isn’t our craft, and writing might not be our thing, and we aren’t seasoned writers at all. Another issue that bugged me at that time was the pandemic, these were the exact days when work conditions in the real world weren't favorable due to Covid19. There is fear, our means of living and finances are obscure. My option is to learn something new. And, I did. Yes! I’ve been writing for two years now, a love affair with read.cash that bloomed each passing day along with this beautiful community. A regular patron of this wonderful writing platform where I can just freely express my thoughts and my world without toxicity. True. I think that’s one thing that keeps me going here, though read.cash can be considered a social writing site, but it has never been a toxic experience. Everything is worthwhile, and heaps of thanks for the wonderful community and to the amazing admin and developers of this site. Thus, for my second year, let’s have fun once again for another mini-giveaway! Paying it forward to this great community! Last year, I initiated a giveaway with the writing prompt about "Celebrations" and I was so happy reading all 23 entries. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/my-readcash-1-year-anniversary-finale-3743a478 A flashback from last year: My read.cash 1 Year Anniversary https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/my-readcash-1-year-anniversary-finale-3743a478 Of Neck Pains, Cryptos and Giveaways https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/of-neck-pains-cryptos-and-giveaways-e3710650 I was so generous at that time, because my earnings had been so good, everyone got sponsorships from .4 to a dollar for a period of 6-7 months I guess. Though, lately, when the crypto market plummeted, sponsorships can’t be maintained as well. So sorry guys... Nevertheless, I’m so thankful to my two great and amazing sponsors here that stays with me. Saranghae. Now, let’s keep this 2nd giveaway short and INSPIRING! Just write something inspiring, too broad for a topic, right? So, just write and inspire! Write something authentic. A bit longer like a 3 or more- minute read.
