There are many seeds with healthy and good benefits for our body yet some of us ignore them for we don't know what these seeds can give us.
Today, I was inspired to write this article because one of the students mentioned some of the good benefits of these tiny seeds. Maybe most of you already heard and saw it.
Its name is "CHIA SEEDS". Chia seeds were a staple food for the ancient Aztecs and Mayans."CHIA" is the ancient Mayan word for "STRENGTH".
CHIA SEEDS are tiny black seeds, flat and ovular with a shiny and smooth texture, from a plant named chia plant (Salvia hispanica). They have white to brown or black colors.
Chia seeds are filled with fiber and the best plant-based sources of omega-3 fatty acids. In fact, They’re loaded with quality protein.
Chia seeds are an excellent source of many essential minerals too yet a poor source of vitamins so, it's very important to eat them with other foods that rich in vitamins. Furthermore, they are high in manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, copper, selenium, and iron.
Health Benefits of Chia Seeds
Chia seeds have become popular and sold in physical and online stores in recent years because of their high nutritional value. The listed below are just some of their Health Benefits.
Lower Blood Pressure. One of the major risk factors for chronic diseases, such as heart disease is High blood pressure. Chia seeds and chia flour can help lower blood pressure especially for people who already have elevated levels.
Increased Fiber Intake. Most people don’t consume enough fiber
High fiber intake is linked to improved gut health and a lower risk of numerous diseases but most people don't consume enough fiber. Eating Chia seeds is a good way to increase the volume of foods in your digestive tract., leading to decrease food intake and increase fullness.
Increased Blood Levels of Omega-3. Chia seeds are an excellent source of omega-3 ALA which is important for our body and brain.
Improved Blood Sugar Control. Bread made with chia seeds causes a reduced blood sugar response compared to more traditional bread. This is based on Human studies.
Weigh Loss. Chia seeds are high in fiber which can help people to feel full for longer leading to weight loss. However, the evidence is scant. A study, published in the Journal of Obesity, concludes that “there is limited data to suggest the use of chia seeds for weight loss.”
Chia seeds are versatile and called a superfood for they can be added to different kinds of food and has lots of nutritional value despite their sizes.
Here are some of the best and popular food where you can add chia seeds.
porridge - a dish that consists of oatmeal or cereal boiled in water or milk.
smoothies - a smooth and thick drink of fresh fruit pureed with milk, yogurt, or ice cream.
baked goods - food cooked in an oven like bread, cakes, pastries, and many more.
salads - a vegetable or fruit suitable for eating raw.

SUMMARY
Chia seeds are tiny seeds yet rich in nutritional values and health benefits. Adding it to your diet meal is helpful for its rich in nutrients, omega-3 fat, antioxidants, essential minerals, and fiber which is very easy to prepare and added to other foods yet a poor source of vitamins.
If you don't eat chia seeds and haven't tried them, consider adding them to your diet meal and see the best result.
