Sacrifice.
I am still on this Life's series and you can catch up with the other posts I've made on this Life's series, for you to fully understand each topic but still, each post is self-explanatory.
You can read about the other part of the series below:
Fix That Attitude: Life Is About Helping, III.
Everything in life has to do with sacrifice. A lot of people want others to sacrifice for them but they won't even go out of their way to sacrifice for others. Giving is not truly giving until you have given to someone who might never be able to repay you. Most people conduct transactions and they call it "giving", "sharing" or "sacrifice." If it doesn't cost you anything then it's not really a sacrifice. Most people do good to others with the hope of getting something back and I wouldn't label that as a sacrifice.
Sharing with others is a sacrifice and giving to others without expecting anything in return or a referral to the good once done to covet a favour from the same person is sacrifice too. Even in Economics, you must have heard of the term opportunity cost. In Economics, it means alternative forgone in other to satisfy one's want. Forgoing one thing to satisfy another need is a sacrifice. Giving and sharing with others means we are forgoing some part of what we have just to reach out and please another.
This is in line with the "Life Is About Sharing." Parents sacrifice a part of them for their children; their resources, their ways of life, their body, their intellect and everything possible. A friend can also sacrifice his time just to be there for another friend and I can't stress this enough, sacrifice, giving, sharing or generally, helping is not limited to material things or money.
Those in the force sacrifice their whole being to protect their nation. They can't even be there for their children's first walk or graduation when the line of duty calls. The wife had to sacrifice her husband to the nation as she would be deprived of intimacy when she wants to. A sacrifice is indeed an act of service that's what most people need to understand. We don't have to confuse it with transactions.
What mothers do cannot be overemphasized. Have you ever seen the transformation with mothers? Their perfectly shaped and trimmed body had to be sacrificed to bring forth another. That body can never remain the same again no matter how much gym work that mother puts in to get the body back. That's a huge level of sacrifice that can never be repaid no matter how much we try.
It's a huge level of sacrifice to let go of your child in the name of marriage. You have laboured, toiled and did all you could to make a woman out of your daughter but you have to let go; trust another man to do the job even better than you and any parent would understand that they would always have reservations as to if the man can do better than them because they want their child to be taken care of. That's another level of sacrifice.
Sacrificing should be on our terms. Most people copy what others are doing because they want to be known and prove a point and they tag that as sacrificing. Sacrificing is by choice even when it defies logical sense. A woman sacrificed her body for her child in a burning building. She was warned against going into the fire and she felt the fire servicemen weren't acting as fast as she wanted. She went in there, grabbed her baby, sustained a serious amount of burns to her body just to make her child live. The child grew up and started feeling ashamed of her mother. She didn't want her around her even in school until she was told the story of how she risked her life for her. That was when she understood what sacrifice meant.
Sacrifice goes deeper and we can't repay it no matter how much we tried. The young boy who helped Bill Gates with newspaper when he was broke knew what he did for Bill Gates was priceless and Bill Gates attested to that. Bill Gates searched for the boy when he made it and told the boy he wanted to repay him. The boy said he gave to Bill Gates when he had nothing and now he wants to give to him when he has everything? He said the level of sacrifice cannot be compared and that's true.
Not everyone we sacrifice for would appreciate us or even remember it. It's not about how they would react when we sacrifice for them but it's about our own choice of taking the focus away from ourselves just to make others happy. What have you sacrificed for others? It's a rhetorical question we all need to ponder.
Most of the things we think we are getting for free are not really free. Some people parted away with their resources just to make us happy. Life is about sacrifices.

Sacrifices is part of living, to move forward to gain something we neednto sacrifice, to take risks. Like what God did to us hebsacrifices fo us, for our sin, and he still forgive us. Like what our parents did to us, they sacrifice everything fo us to live properly in this world.
