Caution.
I am still on this Life's series and you can catch up with the other posts I've made on this Life's series, for you to fully understand each topic but still, each post is self-explanatory.
You can read about the other part of the series below:
Fix That Attitude: Life Is About Helping, III.
We have spoken about the need for balance in everything and I have touched a bit of life being risky but not in details, but I will deal with that much later. In as much as we know some things about life, we need to also know that life calls for caution. Life is about caution. Most people just go through life without exercising a bit of caution. It shows in the way they talk and even in the things they do. We can't just do things because we can, we need to put into consideration the feelings of others as well.
I shared yesterday how we went to deliver clothing items to people at the barrack and they acted in such a way that can be classified as degrading. They were not cautious about their greed, their attitude or how it would reflect on their fellow humans or those who came to deliver these things. They were not even bothered about how it would affect them going forward...they just lived in the moment, throwing caution to the wind.
We need to be cautious if we don't want to end our time on earth prematurely. Imagine if there were no speed bumps? Speed bumps can be likened to caution which isn't meant to stop you permanently but temporarily. We can't keep going through life with speed without moments of reflection. We can't keep doing things just because we feel like doing them. There is a need for checks and balances and we need to re-evaluate our lives from time to time too.
If we can just do things anyhow then the TV or the gadgets we buy won't come with manuals. Imagine using a hammer on a TV or going against what's written in some delicate gadgets? Your phone isn't waterproof but you decided to immerse it in water when the manufacturer's instructions didn't say it can? Ask Nigerians, even a phone that was clearly written as "waterproof" we still get too cautious not to get it anywhere near water because we never can tell hahahaha.
Life would humble us in its way but we have to be cautious. We need to be sensitive to our bodies, our lives and even things surrounding us. It doesn't mean we are living in fear or trepidation but it only means we value life so much than just throw it away as though it didn't matter. It's for us to get the best out of life which is why we need to heed that voice of caution.
There are so many things designed in life to give us caution as mentioned with the issue of the speed bump. The brake system of a car was meant to give us caution as well and when you sit in your car without a seatbelt, there is always that tone and light caution that tells you to rethink your choice of not using it. You know when the eraser is wearing out before the pencil, it shows that person is overdoing things a little. We need to stop overdoing things and even pushing people beyond their emotional limits. We need to exercise caution.
Caution is not bad just as I said it's not to instil fear but I guess it all depends on which angle we are seeing it. We see the need to be careful all around us. Don't just live your life as though that's all there is to it without clearly defined goals. Even when you go to malls, you see caution telling you the floor is wet or when you see a truck break down on the road, you see the caution sign telling you to navigate your ways smartly so you won't be at the receiving end of what can be avoided.
A lot of problems we get ourselves into can be avoided but we don't heed caution. We want to enjoy ourselves, have our fill and do things without thoughts. We want to go through life as though we have 9 lives like the cat or as we have seen in movies. Reality is different from fantasy which is why we need to be careful and heed the warning signs.
Have you ever had a rethink about some of your choices? If you think back in retrospect you would see that some of your choices could have been done better while some of the consequences you had suffered before now could have been avoided. We just like doing things in the spur of the moment without being cautious. This needs to be addressed so we can do better going forward.

Its not that we shouldn't 'live' , have fun or be free but its knowing when the time is right to do so, just because I want to spoil myself on a shopping spree, which isn't bad at all but its also bearing in mind that caution needs to be applied so I don't empty my bank account. I think it's consciously remembering the need to take a few seconds to apply caution, put into consideration the pros and cons of the step or decision you're about to take and make. I too often to forget to take a few seconds to think before acting, especially when emotions get In the way. Cautions through life are absolutely necessary so we don't go about crashing, falling and hurting every time. Thanks for this, it has reminded me to be intentional about being cautious as it is necessary.
