This post is inspired by a Facebook status posted by my husband a couple of years back. The post goes like this:

Subject: Young Filipina (around 14-15 years old) poses on Facebook publicly in a very "Sexy Way" (not disclosing the photo for privacy purposes).

Foreigner (50 + years old) comments on the photo:

"Wow, very sexy"! "You're so hot", "I want you to be with me".

My husband's thoughts: "SCARY"

It's like young girls are basically saying, "Hey, all you pervert predators come get me" because they respond with "Thank you babes", "Thank you boys", "Love you back" etc.

Makes you wonder sometimes...

Is it ALWAYS 100% the guy's fault when a girl gets harassed or something deeper than that when you think of the way these young girls toy with adult predators?

But really, dangle a carrot in front of a bunny, and you might just get yourself a bit when the bunny goes for the carrot you know?

Playing with fire! Fire! Fire!

Another scary possibility - Video time doing God knows what with God knows who.

"Send me some money po!"

These predators really do pay up for a show.  They do pay and it will cost them a lot less than if they pay for a 1-900 sex call. Plus, they can feed their egos that the girl is in love with them if they let themselves believe it. Sadly though, the Philippines is only one country in the world where the kids rule the internet and the parents are often (depending on age or finances/lack of own computer) unaware of what goes on. Third-world country problems. Also, These kids are not influenced by porn. They are influenced by poverty and tourism money.

I also think the ignorance and naivety of parents have a lot to do with it. I know of people in the rural areas where they cannot even afford a computer, may have never used one, and will possibly never use one. They are clueless as to there being a danger to their kids who have a smart phone for example. It's not that they don't care, it's that they are unaware of the dangers.

Here's the reality:

We can talk about what SHOULD have been done by the government. We can talk about what SHOULD be done with the government, and it all makes sense with one exception. Too late to fix the past which affects now, and who knows if the future will happen the way it should. Now, there is a problem and the blame game can get shifted around in many ways.

Ultimately, there is a 14-year old girl who is not stupid, who knows the game she is playing, and there are predators that like playing the game with them.

This reminds me of me and my husband at McDonald's some years ago. It was about 5 pm and it was on Valentine's Day. McDonald's was loaded with teenagers and my husband happened to notice one who was very pretty, with long hair, with a small cute figure, and then hubby got a better look at her face and realized she was only about 15. She was wearing tight pants, a tank top, and hooker platform heels.

Hubby told me:

"Okay! Our daughter will NEVER dress that way at this age!"

and I agreed of course.

Hubby even said:

"For a man, that must feel strange! You see, she looks sexy!"

then realized her age and he goes again:

"and I had to admit - Ummmm yeah, she looked sexy...and Ummm YES, it was very awkward!

Now, this is NOT technology as an issue. Someone let her leave her house this way. It is also no secret how a working girl dresses here and she looked pretty darn close to it. Making yourself out as a sexual object does not help self-esteem, it makes it worse. Girls post very sexy and revealing photos and then demand to be respected? That is a little impossible when they don't even respect themselves.

Cute is not panties and bra. How can you possibly say she doesn't understand?

Dear parents, protect your daughters and check their profiles from time to time.

Random ramblings. I'll leave everything here now.

It's midnight and I am about to go to bed. I hope everyone is behaving. No playing with fire. Goodnight, my amazing friends. Catch you all later again sometime tomorrow I hope. Xoxo

One love

Nakow buti dito mo pinost to. Hays.

This is a deep post... 100% agree with everything you said about protecting our daughters... i see so many young girls on insta and wonder "how did you Mom and dad leave you alone with your phone so that you can post seductie dances?? where are they??" .. When I was young, my parents did not even allow me to leave the house to next street without permission lol... and forget laptops... we used to go an internet cafe for an hour or so, there also, we used to have surveillance... So scared and worried for girls this generation...

One thing that bothered me in this post is about telling some stereotypical metophors like ....."put a carot in front of bunny, it's gonna take a bite".... "put meat in front of lion and expect lion not to react"........ That is purely victim blaming because saying "he did that because she did that"...... she posing in her bikini STILL DOES NOT give him a right to do predatory stuff... because neither she is a meat, nor he is a lion lol...

"it's just a fashion" they always say. pag pinag babawalan sila. nakakainis lang, gano ba ka importante ang ka sexyhan yung tipong kita na singit haha tapos pag nabastos! respito ang hihingin . wait! parang mali. haha well, girl, matatawag padin naman kayung sexy but not that way! many of us misunderstood the wor sexy. (deep breath) sexy is not about wearing shorts or backless na damit. pakinisan ng balat or whatsoever you can wear simple, decent cover your body, Give respect your self first. Still we can call you sexy. 😇

These situations are not new, but it had its boom with the internet and then with camera phones. Parents and society at large have roles to play in guiding our young ones on a better path. Many youngsters are influenced by their peers. I have seen a pastor's daughter dress like a whore on campus, something she will never do at home. Though some parents are ignorant Nd some even encourage it, many are influenced by factors beyond parents' control.

Some teens aren't born and exposed to pornography, some are just influenced by poverty and tourism money. It's sad to think na most teens or even kids are nowadays are already exposed to child pornography and what's more disturbing is that the one who influenced them are their parents. And all because of poverty.

The social platform has given lots of freedom that has been taken for granted. There are a lot of things we can do to earn a living aside from exposing or seducing a particular gender.

I don't want to believe poverty led them there, they are just looking for a quick way out of poverty instead of building bridges to cross over it.

I know that everyone has their own right to choose what they use in public places, but please girls, know the dangers of playing with fire. I also agree that this is one of the things that parents should teach their children. Not about the dangers of wearing certain clothing, but to learn 'decency' and 'norm' and the dangers of wearing certain items. Like you shouldn't be showing all your jewelry in places that are full of thieves.

I hope nobody got offended by this. I mean no harm to anyone and was just agreeing with the writer.

Relatively, I just want to imply that prevention is better than cure.

Naku, this happens a lot in our country, worse, I have seen a lot of parents who would start dressing their babies in a sexy way, it might be cute but tendencies are, the baby grows up thinking this is the normal way...

about video calls, this is true and sad to say, cebu has been listed as number one in providing these video calls with kids involved in them. I have been affiliated with a foundation that offers psychological services for those kids who had traumatic experiences. most of them were abused by their own relatives, worst parents...

in lapulapu city, fishermen stopped fishing and neighbors scratched their heads bakit nagka TV si fisherman, nakapatayo ng bahay,,etc, found out later, to pala pangkabuhayan nya... its just sad...

I remember nun 2nd year high school ako. Ang topic namin noon sa GMRC is about mga rape and sexual harrasment sa mga babae. Then ako lang yata ang nagtaas ng kamay na iba ang sagot sa lahat and I was bullied that time. After that nabully ako😅😂 But at least nasabi ko un gusto ko.

This also happens frequently in my country. Sometimes girls don't leave the house dressed like that. They dress like that in a public restroom or at a friend's house. They already have their clothes saved for such an occasion and they go out to their challenge. I think it is a problem of not communicating properly. It's not the same for a mother to tell her daughter not to do those things in an imposing way as it is for the mother to communicate by explaining to the daughter why she shouldn't do those things. To impose is to force, to converse is to reach an agreement.

That´s why I always consider the same thing: Social networks are neither for kids nor teens! The big trouble here is the lack of responsibility their parents have in order to keep the kids in a good way. They do not monitor their children during the time they spend on the network. Like the teen in the story, there is a big amount of girls "playing with fire" and they think there are no consequences.

Parents must be aware about what your children do. Definitively yes.

The society we find ourselves is becoming unbearable with what we expose our minds to on daily basis. The mind is where we often take decisions that leads to play play with fire.

When the mind conceive a things and pondered upon over time, such things eventually becomes a reality over time despite the fire around it.

There was a time I told myself I won't do a thing but because I was still playing around it makes me still want to touch it again and again. It is only when we flee far away from fire, I believe only then can we be safe from fire fire fire...

We don't watch what we don't want, if you don't want to be burn by fire, don't play around it nor stand watching.

Nice piece there ... 👌

Parents are always with the big responsibility of taking good and proper care of the children. But I want to believe that the world is getting changed day by day, I see some children with good upbringing who decide to be wayward on their own.

Many parents are tired of their own children because even despite the close monitoring they give them they still remain adamant and have chosen their own path.

All we can do is to keep praying and hoping that our own children will not be wayward, that they would be obedient and yield to instructions.

I totally agree sis. May nakita ako dati sa FB na page mga 10 pa ata yung bata at kung manamit daig pa ako. I reported the page. The parents allowed her to do that for money and fame. Tsk tsk..Decency should start at home.

✊✊that is the simple truth, all over social media you see girls and women showing revealing photos but then come out and say they dnt want to be seen as sexual objects alone🙄 ''Dont judge a book by how they look" if you dont want to be judged dont look that way🤷
