An Open Letter for my One Great Dad
The celebration of Father's Day might have ended a week from now but appreciating the people that make you feel like 'you' does not need any special day. As an expression of love, this is an open letter of appreciation for my Dad.
***For the love and hate I have, this is a letter for my one great dad.***
It wasn't easy to say that my Dad and I are on good terms. Simply, we aren't. Despite my efforts or his, there will always be a thin line that makes us feel disconnected. It was almost a natural thing, like a Yin & Yang element in our relationship.
Growing up, I was fully aware of his very existence. From his efforts to support us fully and his flaws that were all ingrained in my system.
One could say that he was a sort of 'tiger' parent to us. His support system will never have an inch of encouragement, for his words ought to make us realize how capable we are.
His words are powerful and could make us feel pain, intended or not.
**He will never say that he cares.** Something I badly wanted to: his approval and gentle manner to assure us he'll be there no matter what. Yet, he had never mentioned anything in instances we needed his affection the most.
**He never said he care**. His words are too strong to make us feel that he does not. Growing up, he trained us to speak up for ourselves by uplifting us through his cold manner. He knows that we are beyond the fear we feel for others. He will push us to our limits, to find the courage and strength that we can fight for ourselves. Of course, it wasn't the best thing to do, but I learned much about the cruelty of life through those eye-opening experiences.
With all of these things, I would admit, I hate him because he's not the typical 'tatay' or Filipino Dad. Oh, how I wish things work like how is it for my friends. Yet, time changed everything.
He wasn't the best but he progressed, both as a Dad and as a person which astounds me. At first, I questioned his entirety and his role in my life due to his not-so-typical treatment and parenting. The years passed by with him opening up, being closer and softer to us.
I realized his intentions. I understood why he was that way and I love him for every flaw he was. His uniqueness made me prouder of him.
His love may not be heard, but we feel it— I feel it and that's what's important.
Thank you, Pa.
Thank you for every morning you'll wake up just to assure us that we can go to school on time. Thank you for each meal we had with you that you prepared with all your best. Some of it may be good or something I despise the most, but your efforts would never be taken for granted by us.
Thank you for the life you've given. Your wisdom, strength, and sense of things we don't quite get. Your words may have pierced me at times but you made me feel whole at times I was too lost.
Thank you for everything. You had been a big part of my life, like Ma, you two make my world go 'round.
May you remember that you're my One Great Dad who I love and adore.

Manifesting May as the month of fresh beginnings
It’s the month of fresh beginnings, a time to manifest positivity at the moment where changes are apparent— let’s manifest such energy!
See how fast time flies by, it’s already the 2022’s fifth month. The cold and warm nights due to the revolving weather became humid. The bright and beaming sunlight from summer makes everything on a positive note.
The month of May is here to let us start anew!
***How would I manifest the positivity of this month in my life?***
Changing seasons
It may be summer or spring, perhaps winter in different places of the world. The changing seasons invitingly shift our perspective, similar to how the weather affects our mood on a day-to-day basis.
It was the case for me. I am now experiencing the zenith of summer. Every moment that I spend outside or in the comfort of my room became brighter than ever. Matched with the blue skies are the glistening ray of sunlight— a refreshing sight that gives the delight to warm one’s heart
The buoyant reception of the environment is a clear indication of how things ought to get better when we have an attitude of positive acceptance.
Letting the cold disappear
The nights felt warmer than ever. From how cold it was due to the northwest monsoon, experiencing the summer season feels like a dynamic course of leaving the coldness, in bits and pieces. Sometimes, the hint of lingering cold days makes me realize that the summer isn’t as usual. The La Nina season makes the summer colder and rainy. Yet, the slow transition conditioned how I wanted to slowly burn the passion lingering in me.
Like how the month changes its course, I am letting go of the bygones. The stew of concerns I always care about was gradually shifting from my perspective. This time, I wanted to let the cold and wary thoughts out of my mind.
Bringing the warmth & heat of summer
The cold in the early hours of the day is still there. Although it’s apparent that there’s a bigger meaning to why the climate was being unpredictable these days, there are times when the usual heat of the summer season strikes its peak. Likewise, the noon temperature keeps on getting higher — I even got a notification that says there’s an extreme UV exposure possibility outside. *A threat or a mere reminder of what’s happening around lately?*
In the comfort of our home, I was able to let the blazing creativity I have to work on my own accord. It became a safe space for the last two years of my life. I was enduring what summer was actually, away from the exposure of UV rays, *hot as hell!*
What gives me the vibe to move forward
While appreciating the activities I am looking forward to during the season, I am not disregarding a different set of ways to enjoy the remaining days of summer this May. From bizarre to unexpected reasons for making my free time happier, I realized that there are more than the plans I have expected beyond.
Even though the idea of fruitfully expending the days of April did not happen, I had more things to treasure for the rest of my life. I was able to create lasting memories that inspired me to move forward instead.
It was a game-changer considering it all happened during April, the month I cherish the most. This May, I wanted to let myself live with the same feeling I felt from the previous month.
Manifesting May — a month of fresh beginnings
May is a month that opens new doors of opportunities.
The seasonal changes provide a new set of affirmations to make the year better. It conditioned me to make my plans possible and fulfill the tasks I am indulging in.
I am ready to face the year and its challenges with a full load of love and happiness within. It was something that I lost throughout. This time, I was able to let go of the uncertainties, pain, and worries that troubled me for the past year.
To the moon and back, at the stars and universe, I hope that you can also feel the radiating energy of May. Let’s manifest the energy!
Do what you love and take part in making activities that will help you feel you. I know you could make a great change for the month. ***Slowly but steady, get that Taurus goin’!***

Women of Web 3.0: Meet the women who empower lives through blockchain
The male-dominated world of blockchain is slowly changing as women are now using technology as a means to empower lives through projects that alter how finance and the internet work for society today.
Blockchain is a technology that enables the creation of new digital structures based on the underlying idea of decentralization. Built as a ledger with a network of nodes, blockchain technology enabled developers from start-ups to esteemed technological companies to embrace the revolution.
The rise of Web 3.0 paved its adoption for several purposes such as cryptocurrencies and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).
Thousands of cryptocurrency projects are existing in today's Web 3.0 that differ per function. Other than Bitcoin (BTC), the OG (original) cryptocurrency coin with the highest market capitalization, the Blockchain technology runs the protocol of ‘altcoins,’ a dub for cryptocurrency coins aside from BTC. These altcoins vary based on their purpose— distinctively, they can be a cryptocurrency or a token to which whatever applies to its use.
Think of cryptocurrencies as digital money where you can send and receive value in a network of users; an innovative way of transaction. The use of these generated virtual tokens is handy, ergonomic, and secure. Such transactions made via cryptocurrencies, through the blockchain are private, away from prying eyes. Tokens, on the other hand, are types of blockchain-based cryptocurrencies that serve another function besides transmitting value. It can be for utility or security, depending on how the developer intended so.
The distinctions of these virtual tokens paved the way for the creation of different blockchain protocols that offer lesser fees and other ergonomic functionalities. The growing demand for such uses yielded the development of decentralized applications (dApps). These are applications that can operate anonymously, often through smart contracts or programs stored in the blockchain.
Changing the values of art through NFTs is getting the interest of many. Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are types of assets with cryptographic codes stored on a blockchain. Unlike cryptocurrencies and blockchain-based tokens, the particular thing about NFT is the fact that it is not divisible. Thus, it means that a certain NFT-backed asset comprises it as a whole and cannot be traded with another asset discerned of equivalent value. This is the case for NFTs as a form to validate assets in blockchains like real estate or art.
Accounting for the 21% of worldwide cryptocurrency users, women in blockchain are underrepresented. Data from Triple-A, a blockchain technology and cryptocurrency solutions company in Singapore, estimated that there are over 300 million crypto users worldwide while 18,000 businesses all over the world are now accepting cryptocurrencies. There is an immense disparity between the number of men and women using this technology. However, a recent data survey from Blockfi suggests the growing interest of women in cryptocurrencies.
Here are three innovation-driven, women-led projects in the space of Web 3.0:

Global Women in Blockchain (GWB) is the world's first international umbrella organization dedicated to activating and accelerating the powerful partnerships of women who are leading the way within blockchain technology education, development, and promotion. The non-profit organization aspires to increase diversity in the technological industry by empowering women through shared business relationships and exchanges, associations, meet-ups, forums, & learning events, among many others. GWB strives to include at least one female representative in every country who could lead in the service of women by nurturing an ecosystem of trust, support, inclusion, conscious leadership, and socioeconomic growth.
The GWB organization is headed by its president and founder, Nina Nichols. She is the co-founder of Cluechain, LLC, a company that offers full blockchain services for businesses. Nina Nichols had also founded Resolution Research & Marketing Inc., a market research company based in Denver, Colorado.
The women-powered team of Global Women in Blockchain has been gearing towards inclusivity for blockchain usage.
**Black Women Blockchain Council**
The Black Women Blockchain Council aims to promote Black Women in Blockchain, Financial Technology, and Future Technology. At its core, the mission of the Black Women Blockchain Council is to create a safe space that inspires, trains, and activates a talent and economic pipeline of black women interested in professional and entrepreneurial careers in blockchain and financial technology, while also inspiring and educating the next generation of diverse and inclusive blockchain leaders from K-12, colleges and universities. By doing so, it will support the sustainable adoption of technology through the creation of different opportunities for Black Women. The organization also aims to raise awareness and promote future leaders by equipping skills and educational resources for underprivileged girls, across the globe, to prepare them for blockchain-related careers & financial technology. Moreover, it aims to support economic inclusion through the elimination of traditional barriers with tools for wealth creation that can assist economic justice on a large scale.
The Black Women Blockchain Council is under the leadership of Olayinka Odeniran, an esteemed compliance and risk management expert who has years of experience in assisting financial institutions to navigate international regulations. Black Women Blockchain Council, LLC, comprises members from diverse backgrounds that open different opportunities concentrated on blockchain-enabled technology targeted for diversity and inclusivity.

From a group of four friends who had the same vision that joined forces to begin World of Women, the team grew to nine dedicated to creating a “*beautiful*, *diverse*, *empowering collection* and *flourishing community*.” From new community members and collectors to rising artists and NFT aficionados. WoW loves bringing individuals into the NFT space by creating a welcoming experience for everyone.
The diverse team of NFT enthusiasts at WoW embraces inclusivity with their empowering women-drawn collection and its thriving community. With art to give women a spot in the NFT scene, Yam Karkai and the team behind World of Women were paving the inclusion of women as artists and collectors in the world of blockchain.
**Empowering women in Web 3.0**

Projects based on blockchain gain the traction of the general population with the evolving technology. Once considered a male-centric platform, the perception of blockchain and the technology associated with it are shifting to a more diverse and inclusive one.
The women in Web 3.0 further emphasize the significance of adopting means to promote inclusivity in aspects that affect society. The varying ways to finance and use technology in such cases. These women-led projects are initiatives that are empowering women of today to do their part in the existing digital revolution.

Imagine a gender-equal world
Have you ever imagined a world that treats everyone with the same respect regardless of who and what they are?
The pursuance of a society without barriers is like a near-utopian idea. Factors including economic and social constraints often led to underrepresenting women. It limits the capability of women to perform tasks based on their capacity.
***How could the world be with gender-equal opportunities?***
***Gender***— a general concept determined based on sex or expression. Some may think that the idea associated with the label is simple. However, distinguishing the character was emphasized by one’s self-identification. With labels to give meaning to how one perceives themselves, is it enough to characterize oneself?
The question remains a thought to ponder. With gender being the basis of social and cultural interaction, it controls the expectations and role fulfillment of an individual. Reexamining social views about gender could open up the discourse and the significance of attaining gender equality.
*The second sex*
In the 1949 book of Simone de Beauvoir, a French existentialist philosopher, the discussion about women throughout history pointed out the disparity of gender. The gap between men and women had its chauvinistic roots that influenced the roles and perception of gender. The facts discussed in the book had delineated how gender-based inequalities oppressed people from then ‘till now.
Being second means less to no opportunities for women. The idea of being *‘fragile, housebound’* individuals deprived women of their fundamental rights. Access to education, liberty through political and social involvement, and coequal opportunities were some of the issues that women from different parts of the world have to face.
*Regarded as ‘others’*
Aside from the ingrained sexes accustomed to the general population, gender has a distinct categorization based on how one sees themselves. With different labels to associate being, some had different approaches and understanding of the changing circumstances. Hundreds of classifications, yet, misogynistic and antiquated values upheld due to religious and social views depicts how society values difference for individuals. Seeing self outside the hetero classification makes it more difficult as conservative perception leads to discrimination. Entitled as ‘others,’ individuals of varied SOGIESC apart of the female-male characterization often find themselves hanging by the thread of being accepted or regarded as a human person. A history of narrowed perception decreed on laws that concern morale does not mean a virtue to attain righteousness.
*A gender-equal world*
Words and meanings associated with gender cannot wholly reiterate their meaning. To highlight the diversity of gender is significant. As the world is gearing toward a more inclusive society— may individuals open the door to gender-neutral possibilities for every human person. A gender-equal world is a perception of a supposed-to-be reality where humans interact without the discrimination or stigmatized beliefs associated with being. Adapting the idea of change wherein views that define one's value broadens through time is a manifestation of progress: a vital element in creating a gender-equal world.

Empowering Filipinas with Rise Up, Pinay Movement
The month is not yet over as we further strengthen the value of empowering Filipinas through ***Rise Up, Pinay!***
Anyone has the ability to empower someone through their initiative. It is likely to happen with the motivation that one can feel through words and action. This March, let us strengthen the idea of celebrating women through *Rise Up, Pinay* — a collective movement that aims to empower Filipinas in different facets of life.
*Celebrating women*
The significance of gender and identity in one’s life greatly stresses the roles we partake in. Societal views over issues and the responsibilities associated with how we individually function were affected by such factors.
The female gender is regarded as the second sex throughout the long history of oppression. Men, considered as the superior sex means leaving the opposite as the ‘other’. Often undervalued and misrepresented, the movement for equal gender opportunity was created to call upon the dire need of abolishing the gender-based phenomena.
For over a century, different observations of women’s day were reputed. In 1909, the Socialist Party of America held a National Women's Day in New York City. Meanwhile, in 1990, the celebration of International Women’s Day was signed by then-President Corazon Aquino as a special working holiday in the Philippines. This aims to encourage government and private offices to participate in the activities related to the cause.

***The fight for equality would never end.*** The changing times may have shifted the societal presentation and perception of women but that does not mean we are near equal.
The prevalence of misrepresentation and underrepresentation of women in media, societal views, and cultural practices strongly upholds the fact that women are inferior in the eyes of many. This is the reason why ***HER*** story must be heard.
Rise Up, Pinay through its collaborators and founder aims to let women, especially Filipinas change and stop the stigma that consequently affects our individuality and expression. Through words — writing to art, this is the moment that will make every Filipina shine.

***Advocacy starts with initiative.*** Calling out to people with the same agenda, we are ready to set the voice that will make Filipinas feel the power within them.
Through ***Rise Up, Pinay***, women and individuals of varied SOGIESC are called to participate. Aside from empowering Filipinas, we are advocating for a better tomorrow that defies the limits expected and set by factors gone for too long.

‘Welcoming changes, bidding goodbye’: A fresh start for francescawrites
***“There are decisions in life that we have to do.”***
Before starting a new chapter of my life, I have to end things that already passed. Although it’s quite a late decision for me, starting anew would be the best decision to move forward. As I embark on new horizons, may you welcome me with a warm heart?
Writing on a Monday feels like a not-so-typical thing for me anymore. The past couple of months attested to my writing capabilities and self-management. It was, at that point, that I have realized that I had to slow down.
For a year now, I am writing under a pseudonym. You call me @francescawrites, a name that embodies the character of myself and the most special thing for me — writing. However, I felt like I got lost in touch with this passion. https://read.cash/@francescawrites
I had to re-assess the significance of the things I value. In the process of doing so, I forgot what I, as francescawrites was like. The overbearing difficulty of life and the problems associated with my own persona was the reason why I had to quit, at the time.
Every now and then, I have tried to get back in this interest of mine. I thought I was alright, ready to conquer the thoughts I have. Yet, the preparations were not enough for I was the one who was not ready to take on the fight.
I was defeated by my anxiety. The anxious ideas overbearing my life were enough to put a period to my once comma state. The pause ended the strong passion for writing lingering in me. I thought it was the end of everything. I did not even read nor feel what’s happening with the world lately. I felt alone without anything to communicate what my heart has to say.
*A wake-up call*
It took me three months. The days were passing but I was not moving with only one thing remaining for me: to let myself breathe in for a moment.
I met several people along the way. Which, I thought would help me get past the issues I was dealing which I can not even face myself. It was a short-lived expectation of reality while healing myself. I must admit, the year 2021 had been fulfilling yet burdening. A halt stop was the only pause that gave me solace in such times.
I thought it was alright to do so. Losing interest in almost everything, I resorted to other interests which I first conceived as a considerate option.
In the end, I grappled with the thought of losing the burning passion I had to uncertainties. It only left me with questions and self-doubt.
The next thing I knew, I woke up back with a whole new perspective about life.

The character of my writing experience is an *on-and-off* thing. For every season comes a different feeling, affecting every facet of my life from the days that passed by.
The last few months of my writing career became a cathartic experience. Yet, I do acknowledge the fact that the long hiatus became the reason why I was not really able to connect with my readers lately.
As a writer, being active and true with my writing are the things that I should prioritize. Upon checking the last few posts I have made, I feel terribly sorry for the content I am providing. I was not the best writer out there but, let me restart and give you the content you deserve.

*An end to start*
March is characterized by a new season. Like how it was for the early Romans, I would like to make this month a season of beginning. After a period of idling to stepping; topics anew in a different light is what I, as francesacwrites, have to bring this 2022.
To do so, one has to end something. It was the reason why I am to end this chapter of my life. Ultimately, to fulfill the idea of restarting my career — a fresh start for ***francescawrites***.
