Christmas-y September
We have less than a hundred days before Christmas, 96 days to be exact here in this side of the world. Thus, the holiday decorations are all out of the storage and off to the display areas, all in bright, festive and warm colors. I can hear Christmas songs as well while window shopping. It really brings a happy mood inside. I admit, I’m still smiling like a child looking at it and feeling the mood of the holiday season very soon. Indeed, the Philippines have the longest Christmas, and we’re starting it this September!
Today, I have to sneak out a visit to the mall to look for Kinesio Tapes that we will be using for the lecture this Saturday. This would be the last for the two Saturdays of lecture and training so yes, they save the best for last. While roaming around, I find nothing but masking tape, scotch tape, packaging tape and the like, hahah! No one from the sales crew knew it, except for that guy in Toby’s but unfortunately the store didn't have any. Sigh.
Better yet, go around the mall and feast my eyes with all the Christmas decorations up and tempting me to buy. But, no, neither my pocket nor my wallet isn’t that festive, so I have to say pass to the cute nutcrackers waving at me in different sizes and red, green, golden colors that are just so delightful.
Have you seen those Christmas trees up there? They have all the sizes, and styles, with shiny Christmas balls and ribbons around, but I got captivated with the tallest tree covered with these fake white snowy details. It will surely make you feel like a winter wonderland Christmas, eh? Meanwhile, my friend was kidding me that the tree does look cute and cold in our very hot and humid weather, lol! Yah, right.
Anyway, the tree might be nice, but it won’t fit in our humble home, and how can I afford a tree worth more or less $300! That’s a fortune for me already! And to use it for display during the holidays is just not practical at all. So, this year, I will still reuse and recycle our 7-year-old tree stored at home. Perfect!
We have gone to the kids section checking out for some items on sale, I thought perhaps some people have started shopping for presents as well. Indeed, there are. The saleslady actually showed us toys that are on 50% discount, though they’re nice and trendy but again my economical self would still opt for something useful for my niece and nephews, like a shirt maybe, because during the pandemic, they’ve been mostly staying at home and their parents no longer buy them new clothes, so at least I could help them with that.
Wow! Time flies so fast. I can't believe I have been procrastinating for almost a year now about some things in life that I should be doing. Anyway, I have to leave this topic for another time. Guess, this will be all for now...
Thanks for reading!

Pickled Midnight
Hello everyone! I really don’t have much to share today, must be writer’s block or just my mind feels blank. So, I think I just have to write and go with the flow or maybe fly too where my flying mind takes me to. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/seems-like-my-brain-feels-blank-bf57f8fd https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/my-flying-mind-c8d860dc
It’s 12 midnight now on this side of the world and I’m in crisis with all the menial things around, like what food do I have for a snack? Should I sleep now and write later or write now and sleep later, hahah! You can guess who won this time. Would I be able to sleep right after publishing or should I visit the kitchen first for some milk or tea? And, deciding to start writing would be another crisis of what to write about? Wow! This is too much!
Ah, actually, not too much yet. While reading some articles here I thought that I still have much on my plate to think about, the future and my demotivated self that I am always trying to fight for some months now. Imagine? It’s really hard to be torn between not and knots. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/torn-between-not-and-knots-9a40c4a7
Another article made me realize how long we have been experiencing gloomy days in the cryptoverse. I lost track already. Anyhow, I just love writing and the community here in readcash, so I’ll be a patron here. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/gloomy-days-in-the-cryptoverse-10bdccc6
A friend talked about African Time in her article and I smiled to learn that Filipinos aren’t alone in this universe loving the time we can’t give up for years, lol! We are still so tenacious about Filipino time, and I’m so ashamed of it. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/filipino-time-e3a40de3
Today, we had a lecture about neurorehabilitation and the guest speaker came on time. However, I was so dismayed with my colleagues attending the lecture, almost half of the attendees came late! I just hate people who don’t value the time and effort other people do for others. Just ungrateful and absurd. I even don’t know how to confront them because my direct superior went out and didn’t finish the lecture with unreasonable explanations. This is just so wrong for me. Anyway, I want to let it out of my chest, so hear me out vent for a bit. So, everything's gonna be fine, fine, fine after this. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/everythings-gonna-be-fine-fine-fine-c6022804
The lecture was so refreshing. I learned so many new treatment strategies that would be very helpful to our neurologic patients. Just a shame some people don't value it, sometimes I thought if they are really sincere in treating their patients or perhaps just after for the money. Just sad to be deceived by knockoffs! One time I've read this line from a Physical Therapy Forum... https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/deceived-by-knockoffs-18a0ff92
"We see patients, not clients...
Our work is a calling, not a business..."
True.
This would be all this pickled midnight, I guess.
Thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of the weekend!
There's a Prompt from the #promptfactory before about including article titles to your article, and I guess this sound like it, hehe!

Power Is Addictive
There is something about power that makes it so covetable to some people. Actually, the people that tasted a bit of power once in their lifetime were actually the ones who are more addicted to reach the top and grabbing more. There is nothing wrong with pushing our hardest for our dreams, but we should learn to keep balance of everything. Losing the balance would either mean failure or addiction.
I’ve been on day-2 watching this K-drama “Military Prosecutor Doberman” and I am appalled at how disgusting some people can do for power. If you haven’t seen this series yet on Netflix, here’s a trailer I got from YouTube for a synopsis of the story.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwGXINLszus
It is really sad to see life crumbling down and families destroyed just because their work and morals hindered the filthy plans of a person in power. And, it is even regrettable to discover that this has been even more persistent in agencies where law and order should have been upheld.
I, actually, don’t know if this can be happening in real life, I know most of us love to sugarcoat life as a fairytale, but I guess it is what it is. The most things we see in the life of most successful and rich people can be more or less just the tip of the iceberg, there is something and some more boiling under.
There is one case that the prosecutors are working on and it’s about power tripping. It’s sickening how some soldiers were treated like slaves in the household of high ranking officials, and have to endure the abuse as well. I don’t think this is fair! Is this really a way to train men to war? I don’t think so.
I love this line from the series.
"There is nothing higher than the law."
The girl in the supporting role with the main character said that line once when she was confronted that the military cares more about ranks than anything else. Though this can be half true if you have to climb the hierarchy in this field, but, how would you work for it? Would you opt for honesty and proper diligence or just work it out in deceptive feats? Our choices, perhaps always depend on how we value morality.
Moreover, I completely understand how the lady in uniform answers it because after all she’s also a prosecutor, and she indeed needs to stand by the law above all else. Well, as for me, I just love how strong her will power and confidence. That’s the kind of power that we apparently need in our kind of society nowadays, not power tripping and power grabbing in unfathomable hideous ways.
I hope we learn something from this short article, though this is just merely writing my mind out after watching a few episodes from this series. However, before I go, I was reminded of this verse that I also love to share with you…
"But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise;
God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong." - 1 Corinthians 1: 27
So, let's pull it off with love. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/pull-it-off-918d6f4f

New Route for the Afternoon Walk
Hello there readcash community! How’s everyone? How are you dealing with the Monday blues?
It’s a great day to get waisted and to sweat out today because the cloudy gray skies and never- ending afternoon rains are out of sight. And, since today I’m just chilling at home, with some chores in between, because I’m off from work, my bored mind wanders the neighborhood contemplating for a new route for an afternoon walk.
As I have previously written a couple months ago that the old route I used to walk to exercise was risky and no longer safe for the reason that one passerby during her morning walk got entangled on one dreadful road traffic accident, just so sad and tragic to the victims that you might want to read here - “A Blessing In Disguise.” Since then I haven’t had any morning or afternoon walks anymore. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/a-blessing-in-disguise-5dab1960
However, today is just a perfect opportunity to resume exercising, so I’m off!
The new route is a residential area, just 10 minutes on foot in our neighborhood. Though it’s a barangay road, it's not a busy street at all because public utility vehicles no longer use this road. So, it’s safer I guess. The only problem I noticed that would be risky, especially for the elderly walking in this neighborhood are these cracked concreted areas continuous in the entire block. There is water coming somewhere too, I doubt that it's from the canal because it’s not stinky and it’s clear also. And, somehow I guess this has been a problem for several days (or weeks, or months) because the wet pavements are slippery due to the green algae present on the concrete.
This is just sad, I don’t know why the homeowners in this neighborhood never complained to our barangay unit about addressing this problem. They could at least fix the leaking water somewhere to prevent damaging the road. Some years back I used this road to go to my patient’s house, and it was not like this. The cracks must be due to the water persistently leaking for some time.
Anyway, not too far away from the slippery road is this steep street uphill. I tried traversing this street twice today back and forth, and indeed it was really a challenging cardio workout. Whew! In addition, it was also scary going down, it felt like I’m about to go tumbling down the hill like Jack and Jill, haha!
Oh, I so love those bougainvilleas popping out from the fence, looks really beautiful and aesthetic. I also found these pretty flowers on the sidewalk, I bet the owner or the gardener really loves ornamental plants because it shows!
That would be all for our little chitchat. Thanks for reading!

World Physiotherapy Day 2022
Time flies! The moment I thought about writing this topic here yesterday, I remembered that last year I had written one article about it too, which simply means that I’m a year older on read.cash again… soonest. Wow! But, let’s skip about that topic yet and talk about what’s with World Physiotherapy Day 2022.
Actually, Physiotherapists around the world celebrated it yesterday and because I was busy hustling and bustling yesterday, I opted to write it today. So, mind you, there was no grand celebration made, we just did the same old regular routine, as usual treating patients from eight in the morning until five. However, our Clinical Supervisor thought that perhaps it would be the perfect time to spend our winnings from the TikTok contest last month when the hospital celebrated their Anniversary. I mentioned in this article “Everyday is Christmas,” that we got the consolation prize and we haven’t spent the money yet. The fastest way to gather and celebrate is to buy food, and Food Panda is to the rescue! https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/everyday-is-christmas-c6ccf20a
We ordered sotanghon (Filipino noodles), Sweet and Sour fish, Fried Chicken, Chopsuey to a restaurant nearby, and a colleague of ours brought Puto (rice cake) of which her mom cooked a lot for a client she thought will order 200 pieces of puto, but bought only 100. Eek! But, anyway, we’re so happy to have it, guess it’s a blessing in disguise! The instant luncheon celebration went fine, we had full and happy tummies to start the afternoon treating patients again. Burp… excuse me, hehe!
Going back to “World Physiotherapy Day,” this is celebrated every year on the 8th day of September. This year, the Filipino Physiotherapy community highlights the role of PT in the treatment and health education for the people experiencing osteoarthritis.
I have seen this photo and I guess it would be great to share it here.
**Osteoarthritis, often called “Rayuma” here in the Philippines**, is actually the most common type of arthritis in the elderly. Actually, some people in their 40’s and 50’s also experience osteoarthritis, most probably secondary to trauma and obesity, and this is something that we should be mindful about in the kind of lifestyle we have nowadays.
This kind of arthritis usually affects the weight bearing joints in the lower extremity, but can also affect elsewhere in the body especially for the post-traumatic type of osteoarthritis. Pain is a very common symptom, joint swelling, stiffness and the crackling sound or crepitus might be present too. It's a degenerative disease of the joint and the connective tissues around it, thus the elderly population is most affected by it, predisposing them to disability and immobility.
That would be a very brief information about osteoarthritis, but there are heaps of informative write ups from Google that you could read.
Anyway, this would be all for now and remember, "health is wealth." Make a choice to be healthy and fit.
Thanks for reading!

Gotta Love "Signature Tea"
Hello, guys! We still have rainy afternoons and nights on this side of the world, and the bed is an inviting refuge, but, first, let me drop this article here and play some catch up for a bit.
Though it’s cold and rainy in the evening, daytime still has the torturing heat. Thus, "Signature Tea" is my new favorite tea house to drop by during my traveling Physiotherapy duty routines. This was opened last year remotely in that same place where my favorite “bookworm hub” was located in my high school years. I have written a bit about this place in this article “Books I Grow Up With,” used to be my sweet abode because they really have plenty of books that time. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/books-i-grow-up-with-fd3748ae
Anyway, though Signature Tea was opened last year, I haven’t explored the place since last week. When the face to face classes started, the usual hang out place I love to visit when I need to get lunch and refreshments was crammed with students already, however, the Signature Tea place remained like a quiet place that somehow I love to get a quick escape from the busy and humid life outdoors.
While having my lunch today, I realized that this has been the same old place where the bookworm hub was located, though it has been renovated and remodeled, I am still feeling nostalgic where the books I love to rent were usually situated, and the counter where the old lady owner used to sit. Wow! It’s amazing how the place was transformed into something different yet still so pleasant and simply pretty.
The place is not so spacious, it only has four small tables attached to the walls like those in the photo and two or three high chairs each. I think it’s just really ideal for just a solo guest like me, or perhaps with one or two friends.
However, I love how unique and aesthetic the idea of attaching dining spaces to the walls. I think that is really a great idea to save space and minimize clutter. It has a minimalist vibe, I guess, that surely piques my interest too.
Directly adjacent to the counter, is a small bar with cute graffiti drawings and words scribbled on the wall. I love that it has black paint in the background because it somehow calms the mood and neutralizes the natural light outdoors reflecting from the glass wall and door.
I also like how the bulbs were decorated with the “abaca” or native strings. It looks really unique, and while staring at the photo now, I thought that it looked like a jellyfish hanging up in the ceiling, lol!
Lastly, the food (and the milktea) is affordable too. Just recently, they started serving “Pater” with fried chicken for lunch, and I love it because I like eating my lunch here too instead. I have only tasted their black tea and it's really good, so, for the third time I have only been drinking this one from their menu, lol!
"Signature Tea" place must've sounded so fancy, but this local tea house is not really lucrative, but just relaxing, pleasant and homey, something I like!
That would be all for now, I hope you could visit Iligan City and enjoy the "City of Majestic Waterfalls," lol! Yep, we have heaps of waterfalls here, so ideal for waterfalls hopping! Hmm, that would be great for another article.
Thanks for reading!

Mom's Health Riddles
Most people say that reaching your 60’s is a bonus, and I agree. Considering the kind of lifestyle we have now - fastfoods and instant meals, extreme sports and adventures, etc. We are all risking our lives, shorter than what this quote aims for us to...
*Stay strong, and live long…*
But, this quote from Seneca also made sense, so whichever we prefer to live our lives, it is always better to aim for the best purpose in life.
Anyway, going back to the main topic, let’s talk about health and a little chit chat about mom’s dilemma - solving riddles of her health issues. We’ve been on this feat for like a month now, and though we got some answers, she's still in pain most of the time and it’s really sad to watch her suffer.
My mom is in her 60’s and we’re all so thankful when she celebrated her diamond year a few years back. We’ve been teasing her actually, that having grandsons and no granddaughter is the secret of her stronger knees and legs. Actually, this is what the older generation usually says, more grandsons will keep the grandparents stronger.
However, mom has been complaining of leg pain since three months ago. I was thinking maybe it’s just arthritis or osteoporosis from old age, so I gave her collagen daily, and indeed, it gave her relief. But, after a month, the pain started again and usually it appeared after walking 20-30 meters away. I thought of the same problem as before, so we resorted to collagen supplements again, but this time it’s not working. Just last month, she’s complaining of pain even at rest and cramping from the toes up to her legs. Thus, I scheduled for her blood chemistry check.
The riddle started with abnormal blood sugar levels or perhaps high uric acid in the blood. I had her Fasting Blood Sugar and Uric acid done, and the latter was very normal. There was a slight elevation in the blood sugar, so we got an appointment with her doctor. That day we were also robbed in the store, adding to the burden financially which I shared here in this article “Must Be The Money!” Of course, no matter what, we have to solve this riddle and see a doctor. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/must-be-the-money-050044a4
Thankfully, the blood sugar elevation is just slight and borderline, most importantly, it’s not causing radiculopathy and the pain in the legs as the doctor said. Wow! So, what then? He suspected intermittent claudication, perhaps an arterial or venous problem, and referred my mom to another doctor specializing in vascular medicine. Well, we left the clinic with mixed emotions, we thank God mom is not diabetic, but where is this pain coming from?
The riddle continued, after a week we got an appointment from the said doctor, and apparently the pulses in both feet are weak to non-existent. Oh no, she really has vascular problems in both legs, and the confirmatory test for this is a Doppler Ultrasound that also costs a fortune.
Still, we can only thank God for the provisions to carry out the series of check ups and doctor’s appointments she went through. Last Saturday, she had her Doppler Ultrasound and it was positive that she has blocked arteries on both legs, more on the left side thus causing more pain. She got the appropriate medications as the doctor added another one from the previous list.
The last riddle? My mom is a bit stubborn in taking her medicines. She actually asked the doctor if these drugs won’t hurt her kidneys, and though she got a comforting answer, she’s still not convinced. Sigh.
I think I have my convincing powers working for her. Let’s see. I’m just praying that she will find healing now, by God’s grace.
So, this got me preoccupied for a bit, bear with me. Thanks for reading!

Rainy Gloomy Friday
It's raining so hard in this side of the world. I'm still on my way home when the rain poured like a mad man trying to ruin the night of the commuters. Oh yes, I'm one of the commuters trapped outside Robinsons Mall, though I have an umbrella and a hooded parka, but still the rain has been just so hard for me to get a ride home.
So, I went back in and decided to eat dinner in Jolibee. I can see other people too who went inside, perhaps we all have the same thoughts in mind. My tummy started complaining too, and gave in to the sweet "sarap" spaghetti meal with burger that I ordered. Thank God, finally I have one lesser burden tonight. I think I can bear the heavy rain and traffic awaiting me on the road.
I started typing this short random diary for today after I finished dinner. I can still see the heavy rain outside and thought perhaps I could redeem my idle time with something productive like writing for my readcash posting for today. And, viola! I'm halfway done, I guess, haha!
I noticed some more people coming in to dine in, so I decided to abandon the place and try my luck going home in the rain. After all, I'm ashamed to stay longer while people were waiting for vacant spaces to dine. There's one girl in uniform approaching me already when I'm about to leave, I'm sure she's thinking whether I could share the table with her. Oh well, no worries, I'm leaving.
Finally, I'm outside and parked my phone back to my bag, I don't want to drop it or might soak it in the rain while I have to deal with the weather, my ride and my wandering thoughts for the night. Now, while waiting for the bus outside, I'm contemplating why I feel so gloomy today, and I realized that my last patient has been on a rough patch with her health. According to the son, her mom has been so sleepy the entire day after she got a hypoglycemic attack earlier this morning. I tried to wake her up to participate in the PT treatment, but she's just nodding and winced when she felt some pain with the exercise. At the back of my mind, something wasn't right, though her vital signs were all okay. Now, I felt helpless for her. I don't know, but no matter how I convince myself not to get affected with my patients, still I always feel otherwise at the end of the day. When I see them struggling and in pain, my heart just breaks with them.
Anyway, the bus came and I have to stand for a bit because it's filled with passengers already from the previous stop. As usual, my mind wanders back to my patient and her son that will be leaving tomorrow for Manila because of work. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to go back yet, but life has to go on, and resources have to be replenished for his mom's medications and needs for the next days. Sigh. What a life... What a sad life.
Ugh! Indeed, a gloomy and rainy night. Still, thank God it's Friday!
Thanks for reading and enjoy your weekend, guys!

'Drawing' Travel Plans
Ever since the travel restrictions were lifted in most tourist destinations here in the Philippines, me and my colleagues at work were planning to travel somewhere and escape the stress of life in the workplace. I can still vividly remember our wholehearted longings and promises to breathe some fresh air somewhere when traveling will soon be easier like the good old days.
February came and everyone was anticipating the summer getaway. Being the savvy traveler in the group, I am usually tasked to make the planning, like booking for the cheapest hotel accommodation, tickets, itinerary, etc. Thus, my excited wandering soul would then explore our options, research here and there, and only to find out that everyone will be busy. What a joke! Eh?!
So, here are our drawing travel plans so far for the past six months, lol! For my not-so-millennial readers, the term “drawing” has been used widely now by the young generation (including me, haha!) for plans not realized or perhaps just canceled.
Siargao
Siargao is an island in Mindanao, and one of the best tourist spots in the Philippines. Last 2017, we had our labor day getaway in Surigao del Sur. This province is known for the Enchanted river, Tinuy-an falls and the beautiful Britania group of islands, from this getaway, we realized that we can’t include Siargao in the itinerary because it's a bit far from our destination, so we planned to maybe visit it some other time. We planned to go there by March, but NO. Just drawing.
Paminahawa Ridge and Cedal Falls
This is a popular trekking route in Bukidnon. I've been wanting to explore this place ever since I’ve seen this on Facebook. There are actually travel agencies that offer joiners for this trekking adventure at a very affordable price, still again it's a miss. I was about to book myself and two of my friends to join the dawn trekking last March, but the agency canceled the tour because it has been raining and it’s not safe to climb. Since then, the rain keeps spoiling our plans and eventually work keeps us busy again. Haaayy drawing…
Iloilo City and Gigantes Island
We plan for a Mindanao escapade only, but Iloilo City is an exemption. This popped on when our co-PT in the other hospital informed us that there will be a seminar in Iloilo City by May. Again, we got excited because we also love to go to Gigantes Island. We thought that this would be a perfect opportunity to get a few units of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) for Physical Therapy and explore Iloilo as well. My excitement took me first to start researching for tourist destinations, hahah! Later when we emailed the organizer of the seminar, it was fully booked. The threat of Covid19 prompted them to limit the number of attendees to forty participants only. So sad…
Davao and Buda Road Tripping
This is new in the list. Just last week, the group again wanted to go for a road trip and we thought Davao and Buda would be perfect. Well, I was tasked again to plan it ahead of time, but at the back of mind, I thought that perhaps this would be another drawing travel plan that I don’t want to expect to happen, lol! Or, might happen, but I don’t want to get excited so I will let them do the planning, haha!
Thanks for reading, guys!

Real-Life Superheroes
Today, August 29, the Philippines celebrates National Heroes Day. I think it is a day to commemorate the great and amazing people from history who fought and died for the independence and sovereignty of the Philippines from its colonizers. The nation recognized them as heroes, and we dedicate this day to remember their patriotism and bravery for the country.
However, people on social media have other things in mind for today. I have seen postings about their moms and dads as heroes for them, some are their grandparents, husbands or wives, the frontliners, teachers, breadwinners, etc. While having my lunch break today, my colleagues in the cafeteria are watching “It’s Showtime” and the main cast talked about the heroes in their lives, and it's touching to see them teary-eyed while sharing their story. Indeed, **real-life heroes can be anyone and everywhere.** With our day-to-day lives, we actually failed to realize that they’ve been heroes and/ or we’ve been heroes too in someone’s life.
While reading some messages on Facebook, this song from “The Script” popped up in my mind. So apt for today’s National Heroes Day because it’s an anthem for real-life superheroes. You can click play and enjoy the music while reading this article here. Mind you, I love how this band created this music video, they just set a stage and perform for the people in this village. So thoughtful and down-to-earth.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIm1GgfRz6M
I love this song and the message is wonderful too. I’m in tears while watching this music video for the first time because poverty is real and a big problem everywhere in the world. But, apparently, poverty is not a hindrance for some hardworking and dedicated people to push harder, dream bigger or just to make things meet. Moreover, for a father like him in the video, who worked so hard and mindless of the kind of environment he was in and the kind of job he has, he is a superhero.
It is also heartwarming to see the smile and happiness of his young daughter in the video when he met him on the bridge, you can really feel that tangible joy of seeing the superhero of her life- his father. And, watching the father carry her daughter on his shoulders made me realize that superheroes never grow tired.
Superheroes, they sacrificed their lives for others, for their family, their friends, for their nation. One day, they will be gone, but never forgotten. Cheers to our real-life heroes!

Evolving Fears
Hello and good evening (in my side of the world)! I guess it will be daytime in some and what a great morning again! So, our lives just evolve every second of every day, as simple as that, and we really don’t have much choice than to live with it.
Like fear, as this quote goes, it is part of being alive, and we only need to accept and get through it. I think it's true.
In my experience throughout life, I have realized that fear is evolving too, just like our cravings and likes, like our goals and dreams. No matter how and why those things surfaced, though, it can make our lives happy, challenging and miserable at the moment. They all come to pass and we live as usual.
A lot of the great and huge choices I have made before were actually built on fear. Now, as I remember it, it makes me realize what if I didn’t yield to that fear, perhaps I could’ve a better life. There are times that I feel disappointed with myself, because those fears that conquered me and had influenced some major decisions became turning points that were nagging me today. But, there are also decisions that I am so proud to say NO. I guess, it’s not that disappointing after all.
There was a time when I rejected a marriage proposal just because I’m still young and I was afraid of not being able to do the things I want with my life. Now, everyone is asking me why I’m still single, and though the answer was pretty obvious for me, I can’t even answer them because I don’t know if I have made the right choice for the reason that I haven’t achieved so much with my life.
Then, life takes us to something really ironic. When our age is obliging us to settle down, fear again creeps in. I almost settled down with one problematic guy that would apparently confine me in an abusive relationship. I’m glad that I was able to let go of my fear and practically left him for good.
Oftentimes, we knew fear as those huge traumas we had in life, the weird fear we have even with the menial things around us. These fears stay, we can never shrug them off from our system, yet we live through it.
However, there are also fears that momentarily sway us, and unknowingly the choices we make on how to deal with those momentary fear in life become turning points in life that we find hard to undo and, of course, we will just have to live with it because that’s how things in life should be.
So, fear evolves. They too come and go, and how we make our choices can influence the life we have today.
Lastly, our mind can be the biggest battlefield of fear because all things reside in the mind. Then it cripples us with anxiety, some people even have paranoia in extreme cases. Talk to someone and vent out when needed, pray and pray without ceasing. Sometimes, we can keep our minds healthy just by doing these things.

Mabilis Ang Karma
Sayang.
Tada! At last!
Good luck and enjoy!
Thanks for reading! And, hugs to all for the effort, hehe!

Just Another Panic Monday
While sitting in front of the computer, and contemplating what to write. I was thinking, let me write my world instead of how I ended up with a panic Monday.
But, wait. I want to get the chill vibe and end the hectic Monday that has been, So, let us play this music here, while I’ll be writing (and you’ll be reading this article).
It's just another manic Monday (Ooh-oh)
I wish it were Sunday (Ooh-oh)
'Cause that's my fun day (Ooh-oh)
My I don't have to run day (Ooh)
It's just another manic Monday.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsmVgoXDq2w
Panic Monday
In the morning, I woke up with the commotion in the kitchen and in the living room. The kids in the house will be starting school, I know it might sound just an ordinary day, but no. Since the pandemic started and the schools shifted to online and modular learning for more or less two years, the back to school scenario today was something extraordinary. I hope just for today while everyone is adjusting.
My niece is in second grade, but today is like her first time. She got used to waking up late, and her bath time has always been her playtime too during the “Stay At Home” days. Thus, my brother (the father) has been shouting to hurry up, now that classes have started and the morning routines should be in a hustle and bustle.
My nephew is in tenth grade. A big brother, but still so stubborn. He kept asking for five minutes more of sleep and the father had almost forgotten to wake him up, lol! Anyway, he can move quickly so it won't be much of a problem.
The father was overwhelmed too, and I was a bit guilty not to wake up earlier to help. Oh well, I don’t have kids so my mind wasn’t in sync with the entire new morning routine. However, it’s undeniable that there are really changes in everything. I guess I don’t have a choice but to go with the flow and accept the challenges too.
What challenges? The busy and noisy morning, and… the traffic!
Yes, traffic is back especially during rush hour. I mean, the road has always been busy all the time (everywhere in the world, lol!) but today was a bit more congested. Apparently, the commuters piled intensely too because of the students, thus commuting is harder as well. I’m glad that with the modern public utility vehicles, standing is possible and a better option.
Anyway, this might all sound bad, but I’m just glad that the world is finally moving back to normal.
Grateful Monday
Just another panic Monday, but I’m grateful that the kids are finally going back to a normal classroom setting, and experience the chance to interact and play with other kids once again. I’m sure screen time and gadgets will be lessened hopefully now that the classes have started.
While going home today, I can’t help but be grateful to see schools and universities flocked with students again. This must be the norm for buildings and campuses like these, the past few years have been a sad scene.
Thank God for Monday!
And, thanks everyone for reading!

See-Foods
Not a typo error there, this article is all about see-foods, really!
Hello ladies and gents! I hope y’all are in the pink of health, because I’m praying for it right at the moment. In my previous article, “Home Remedy for Cough: Lagundi and Lemon,” I mentioned that I got a flu and until now I still have a productive cough, so at least I think the Lagundi is already working to start the excretion of those unnecessary mucous in my bronchioles and other pathways of my lungs, lol! Hopefully this will be over soon, *“Please, Lagundi, take good care of my lungs,”* hahah! https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/home-remedy-for-cough-lagundi-tea-and-lemon-44e6db3e
Anyway, with my health predicament lately, I got a bit anxious too about the food in front of me, because I just want to be back in my normal state of living. Thus, I try to avoid foods that could trigger coughing, healthy foods if possible.
My days have been more like a see-food habit now. I can’t eat it, I’ll just have to watch it and eat something else, lol!
In the morning, they had sunny side up eggs for breakfast and my mom said that eggs can exacerbate coughing, so just a see-food for me. Sigh.
Night time, I can already guess the tempting aroma of paprika, garlic and butter. Whoa! It smells heavenly for me! This is my brother’s version of Cajun Shrimps, so simple yet sumptuous already. I think I need a glass of Coke-Cola right after dinner. Perfect! However, that’s just a fairytale, mom said shrimps or crabs are bad for cough! Eeeek! And soda too, hahah! Anyway, I don’t want to contribute to the shortage of Coke, Pepsi Cola in the Philippines, so it’s fine. Let’s mark this as see-food agaaiinnn…
Then, a friendly neighbor came and gave my mom a present from Canada. It's my favorite Fruit and Nut Trail Mix, oh I’m so jealous while everyone was slowly emptying the pouch. I tried a couple of the fruit, but my throat just got super itchy, “ahem.. ahem,” just a see-food again for me.
Oh! Well, this should be my melodramatic life while having this bug nowadays. When I was younger, my dad would buy me halo-halo when I had a cold and cough, haha! I could definitely finish one big glass of it. Then my mom would be nagging my dad for being so ignorant and careless all day long, lol! Good old days! I think this bug intruder just needs a halo-halo treat, what do you think? Hehe! Just kidding!
If you noticed, my mom is the best nutritionist or dietician, kidding aside, lol! She said I have to avoid chocolates too, and mangoes, eggplant, and coffee too! Sad life. Apparently, Google backed up and said caffeinated drinks. Guess, I can get a decaf instead.
Okaaaayyy. That would be all of this good food article that we love dearly.
I just realized now that I’m working and I have patients waiting for me, I can’t just ignore my health. The past couple of days, I can only prioritize the acute cases under my care because these are the patients that really need a regular PT. I don’t want to stress myself yet, so I have only seen one patient a day since yesterday. The rest can wait when I’m back on my energetic and enthusiastic self, perhaps next week? God willing.
Also, adulting is hard! No work, no pay is real. So, guys, stay safe and stay healthy ALL the time! Better see-food!
Thanks for reading again, be well, hugs!

Home Remedy for Cough: Lagundi Tea and Lemon
Hello everyone! I’ve been away for the past three days because the bug got me, hopefully not Covid. Thank God, I’m a bit fine now, so I’m back on my computer to write this and publish. I promise myself not to indulge more than two hours of screen time, guess this will be quick.
Last Sunday afternoon it rained here like crazy and I got soaked after a day from work. Right there and then, I was sneezing, plus a terrible headache. I went to bed early hoping that it would be gone in the morning, but no. I woke up feverish, still with a little headache. In the afternoon, I was running with fever already, with a clogged nose and dry cough. My symptom thus looked like Covid, but since my fever and colds disappeared after day three, I think I’m safe. I’m really praying that I would feel better Tuesday or Wednesday, so I could count this as an ordinary flu, and I am. Praise God!
Now, I still have a cough that is bugging me. I hate to leave home suffering from a cough because most often my throat gets itchy when I’m around people, and everyone will look at me like a consuming predator! Huhuhu! Facepalm**
Anyway, I started taking Carbocisteine, a mucolytic, every eight hours yesterday. Our doctor told me to take it only for three days. Hopefully this will work.
Moreover, my brother is a fan of herbal medicines and home remedies, and he is prescribing me to take 1 cup of lagundi tea, with a teaspoon of calamansi juice. I’m not so familiar with herbs, so he volunteered to get the lagundi leaves in someone else’s backyard, haha! He came home tonight with the leaves and the calamansi! Perfect! I did a quick research regarding Lagundi in English, and this is what Google has to say, “five-leaved chaste tree,” or “vitex negundo” its scientific name. It’s a shrub that grows perennially everywhere, so I think this is pretty easy to find.
Of course, I can manage preparing it with verbal instructions from my brother, so I’m off to the kitchen to make a miracle tea as what my quack doctor said, hehe!
How to Prepare?
Wash the Lagundi leaves
Get a small pot, put 3 glasses of water or more depending on the leaves you have. I have 5 and my brother said 3 to 5 glasses.
Boil it for 5 minutes, low to medium heat.
Pour a cup of Lagundi tea, and it is better to put a teaspoon of calamansi juice into it.
I already have my cup now, and it tastes fine.
*“Ahem,” Ahem,”*
I still have a cough, I guess. Sigh. I told my brother “*why it’s not gone yet!*”
Well, he just told me that ***“Nature takes time to heal.”***
Awww, that really makes sense and I have to agree! Tomorrow, I’ll be drinking some more Lagundi tea.
Then, hydrate myself with lots of water infused with this lemon, so nature can finally heal me, by God’s grace!
This article might be confusing you because I'm in the medical field, but I'm into the traditional methods as well. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with science and nature, giving us solutions for our ailments. As long as we know how to balance things, and get the best help you need if worst comes to worst.
Thanks for reading, guys!

K-Drama’s Zombie Evolution
The zombies' biological conception and the eventual apocalypse has been a trending genre on TV and movies around the world, and obviously most people like this kind of variety. I don’t know how this can be entertaining because mostly it always contains violent scenes, but I keep giving such popular themes the benefit of the doubt and end up watching it. Thus, I got this funny realization about how the zombies evolved, especially on K-dramas.
As I jogged my memory, I think the first movie I came across watching zombies is “The Resident Evil.” I can no longer identify which part of the film series because when I started Netflix, it already had several films. Well, I don’t want to dig about the story of how the Umbrella Corporation started the mess and how cool Alice was in the movie. But, definitely, the zombies here are just the casual zombies we knew - corpses that can move and get fed from human flesh, however not capable of reason and logical thought.
The Korean Drama that I first watched was “Train to Busan.” But, I’m not fond of horror films so I never completed watching it. Honestly, it just stirs my curiosity because it became popular in the Philippines at that time. The zombies in this film were indeed just the usual zombies we know from the definition.
Then, “All of us are Dead” made waves and I got hooked watching it when my nephews and niece were binge watching it on Netflix. I have actually written an article about it, because the side stories of the characters in the film were life anecdotes that we can actually learn something about friendships, family, etc. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/all-of-us-are-dead-f8557b65
Believe it or not, there is something special with some of the zombies in the series. They are no longer typical zombies, they can actually think and reason. Moreover, they can fake themselves as normal humans! The teens in the film jokingly call them - “*hambie*” half human, half zombie. The interesting element from the *hambie* is that they can be really annoying villains because they exhibit great power that could outwit the humans.
This afternoon, I saw “Carter” on Netflix as one of the most popular recent films, so I watched it. I didn’t read the description, and later on realized that it’s a zombie film. Surprisingly, the zombies here are also capable of choosing a weapon to devour its human target. Wow! The smart undead can really end the human race if we are not as skilled as Carter, hehe!
If you haven't seen it yet, this trailer I got from YouTube might stir your imagination.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulPHag30btQ
Just a quick review of the movie, I would rate it 6/10. It's an action packed drama and the plot can be really good, apparently not a horror film. However, violence is just overrated, and some of the fighting scenes look unrealistic in my opinion especially on the last part of the movie with the helicopter and train scene. The swinging made me think that these guys might be acrobats, lol! So, I give it a 6. It's an adrenaline ride from start to finish, so you'll still enjoy definitely.
The evolution of zombies can go crazy and overwhelming all because of man’s creativity for the sake of art. I don’t how we handle it, but oftentimes this creates fear and hearsay, like when the pandemic came and the vaccines became mandatory in some countries, the zombie story became a trend.
Let's not hope for a zombie or a *hambie,* and hope all these will stay as fiction in our lifetime.
Thanks for reading guys and a have an awesome weekend!

Talk to the Hand
Guess, this is what I’m feeling right now. It seems that I’m just talking to my hand the entire time after all.
We, siblings, have a group chat on Facebook so we could access and get in touch easily with each other despite the distance. Here we are able to talk and laugh together, during holidays we have a video conference and it’s fun. I know anyone can relate, this is just a fast and effective way to discuss things using recent technology.
However, now, we have a dilemma at home and it concerns our parents. Obviously, I’m burdened about it so I typed down every detail of it on our group chat, hoping that I would get sympathy from my siblings. Anyway, this is a family matter so I have to let it out and share the burden.
As I began typing, I noticed our youngest was online but didn’t check the chat, after 10 minutes she got offline and I thought that okay she must be busy. Then, half an hour later another sibling was online, but nothing. My message has been sitting for 3 hours now, but no one reads it, no reply, etc. When I asked my sister if she read my message, she just told me that she’s stressed out at work. Uh, fine.
So, I figured, “talk to the hand, lyca!” “You don’t have any siblings at the moment.”
This is just so annoying. We are five, but at times that my parents needed help like now, it seems that I’m their only daughter. So, I should just act alone and let them deal with their own stresses, while I have to carry my own personal burden, plus my mom’s complaints over her painful legs, the family debt and all the bills.
It's not fair. When I worked away from home some years back, I had to send money and take responsibility for my parents' needs financially. Now, I was expecting them to do the same, since they don’t need to make some time for our parents. Now, I’m here- making money, sparing time for my parents' needs "daughter duties," like that, doing the chores or "kasambahay duties," and working my ass.
Last week, I wrote about a theft incident in my mom’s store “Must be the money,” and we lost a big amount (considerably big for us), that could’ve covered expenses for my mom’s diagnostic test and doctor’s check up for her legs, and some part of our monthly bills. But, we can’t undo what has happened, so, now, this is me under pressure. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/must-be-the-money-050044a4
Oh Lord, I know this will all come to pass, but I’m just hurt while talking to my hand, so bear with me at the moment, guys!
Thanks for reading my mind and heart while venting out.

Everyday is Christmas
What day is it today? August 8, 2022. So, it's not Christmas yet, nor my birthday.
Hello world! How's everyone? I hope you are all in the best of everything.
As for me, I thank God that I am. Today is not my special day, not yet my birthday, nor Christmas for the anticipated gift giving, but I just got a few presents today from a friend, from a colleague and from a patient. So, wow! Indeed, every day is Christmas!
Everyday is Christmas, that’s what I’m feeling today, and I’m listening to this song, actually a Christmas soundtrack of Sia in August, lol!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBuSUzI5fGg
Some might begin Christmas as early as September, but now let's make it a month earlier, lol! I know this article is just so early for the best holiday season of the year. But, hey! I got these presents and it feels like Christmas already!
I’m a traveling PT today, however, our hospital celebrated their 16th year anniversary, so I dropped by for the short program the admin prepared. The announcement of the Tiktok contest winners was revealed too, and well, the trying hard Physical Therapy department, who can barely dance like myself, bagged the consolation prize, lol! Yey! We’re happy with that already, lol! At least in my lifetime I was able to try Tiktok, haha! Now, we are planning to dine out Friday night to spend our winnings!
While we had our lunch in the function hall, my colleague squeezed this cute little thing in my pocket. It’s a keychain of this cute animal, I’m not sure what it is, lol! Wearing an elephant hoodie with a cute green hat. Anyway, she told me that she remembered me while she’s out shopping for some home essentials. I mentioned to her once before that I want to buy a keychain for the Community- based rehab we’ve been busy planning to open again. Viola! I got one already! And, I love the color! My fave!
After the luncheon, I left for a patient on home PT. And, unexpectedly, I got another present, and it’s a body mist from a local brand in Dubai. Well, the scent smells like from the popular Victoria Secret. I remember my sister loves this sweet Vanilla scent from that brand. Anyway, I’m not really into perfumes, etc. but I do have a few collections of my favorite scents when I’m in the mood to wear one.
The son of my patient just arrived from his work in Dubai, UAE and he brought a lot of body mists for anyone his mom would want to hand over, and luckily I got one. When I used to work overseas, body mists, lotions and soaps were the most common stuff I buy to give away to friends and some close neighbors. I guess, this is pretty generic already for overseas workers,
Before the day ended, a friend texted me that she dropped by our store to hand over a present she got for me from her vacation in Cebu. I was thinking of the famous hojaldres or otap and masareal, however I got my favorite dried fruit mango perked with Belgian chocolates! Oh my golly! I love it so much! It tastes so good really! The fruit and the chocolate blended so well!
Indeed, Christmas can be any time of the year. Thank God for the generous and thoughtful people around me, they are blessings to keep!
Surely the circle of friends I have here on this platform is the sweetest too! Thanks for reading everyone! Just something random for today. xo!

My Body, My Choice
This topic has been very popular in the western countries all connected towards the issues about women and abortion, the people and the heated argument of Covid19 vaccination. I, somehow, stand in the middle. In my opinion, our choices truly depend on some important personal values and principles we have in life, and so with our health that dictates our wellness to live.
Anyway, this crossed my mind when the ladies in the house, my mom included, watched the recent Binibining Pilipinas 2022. During the Question and Answer portion, the finalist from Laguna received this question;
***What are your thoughts and sentiments on the advocacy ‘My Body, My Choice?’***
*“I believe that all women should always be entitled to our own opinions and we should have the most autonomy on whatever decision that we have towards our body. Because us women, we are a tower of strength, a pillar of hope, and a champion of purpose. And we should always believe that all our choices should always come right into our hands. - Yllana Marie Aduana*
So, let me start with... Thank you for that very interesting question, lol!
The question was indeed compelling, and anyone would react differently when you hit a spot against his/ her belief. Anyone from the judges who stands against your opinion might as well easily give an unfavorable remark. Sad, but that is how the world works right now, everyone is entitled to their opinion, some even don’t care if they hurt anyone or someone! Thus, it's hard to comment about issues like this. But, anyhow, it was already out and the lady contestant should just answer it.
I love the fact that she mentioned the “autonomy on our decisions,” because for me, it is imperative to own the choices we make. This present time, sometimes our identity can be shaken because a lot of people can easily say something about us, even social media can influence how we weigh situations.
However, choices should be a moral obligation too, and not just some whimsical desires. My body, my choice, is a responsibility to oneself, to others and to society too. We should be weighing our decisions based on what is right, and not just any selfish impulsive choice.
My body, my choice. But, what if you’re abusing yourself over addiction. Is it wise to say that you are choosing to destroy yourself just because that is your body and you hate your life?
My body, my choice. But, some women are destroying their bodies over incessant abortion. Though abortion might have any medical implications like health issues, but some teens just used it to end unplanned pregnancies! And, this is just so wrong.
My body, my choice is great. However, anyone must be in his right mind and heart to choose life, may it be yours or others.
In Christianity, our body is sacred because we do not solely own it.
"Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit *who is* in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? - 1 Corinthians 6:19
Thus, we have to take care of it, and not trample it.
This should be all for now. Comment below about your thoughts regarding this issue and learn from each other. I'm all ears.
Thanks for reading!

Must Be The Money!
Matters about money are just so hot, treacherous and deadly. It can destroy families, friendships, relationships, businesses, etc. Actually, money is not the problem, but rather man’s greed and desperation to acquire something - a need or a possession. The things we desire badly creates urges that, if we lose control, can eventually destroy us.
There is actually nothing wrong in wanting money, because most things in this world have monetary value, and we are all programmed to earn, spend and save in this lifetime. Sad, but true. However, despite this dilemma, we have to keep reminding ourselves about morality, and balancing our judgements about money and how we get them.
I was reminded of this quote I read on Facebook perhaps a couple of months ago. It might hold some truth for some people to commit crimes and evil deeds, but this should not be an excuse. There are also some people that have gone crazy over money, and it’s sad how this thing can destroy our sanity!
My parents were both distraught when I came home from work yesterday, and I can’t even console them appropriately because as usual I came home tired again. Someone from their customer in the store that afternoon robbed the P9,000 (more or less $160) my father set aside in his belt bag to pay for the eggs he ordered that same afternoon. Mom told us that she was alone in the store when a woman came wanting to buy 2 trays of eggs, and a few more things. While mom was busy packing the eggs, she sensed the lady stepped inside the store and kept her preoccupied by asking how much is this and that. After packing the 2 trays, she again told my mom that she needs another tray tied separately, guess she was really busy completing her intention of robbing the belt bag hanging on the wall beside the counter. And, she did.
I was really shocked upon hearing this story. My mom lost her cellphone in the store last month and since then I have been forcing them to change the arrangement of the shop. The usual grocery setup up is really not appropriate anymore, now that my parents were both senior citizens and they’re just manning the shop by themselves. It seems that some people are taking advantage of them. Now, they wanted to rearrange the shop to limit the entrance of people near the counter. Oh well! If they only listened to me when that first incident happened, then we could’ve avoided another. We are thinking of installing CCTV but it's pricey and we don’t have the budget for that yet, maybe soon I hope.
Must be the money! Indeed! Thieves can be anyone, they can be friendly, and sometimes they pretend to have the money, but no. Their intention is still rooted in money, and in committing the crime.
It's wonderful to believe that the world is beautiful, but we can't trust everyone and continue believing that everyone is kind and truthful. Let us be extra careful.
Thanks for reading guys!

Swimming the Week Away
I’m here at last!
Hello everyone! Hello world! I miss my routine and I miss you all!
It has been almost a week, I guess, that I haven’t written and published anything. If you’ve read my previous article "Pretty Messy Busy Days," you will definitely know the reason why. Yes! I went missing with the kids. What a great alibi, hehe! But, yes. Life happens, and they can indeed change our world upside down. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/pretty-messy-busy-days-56d5b3c1
Actually, I have to blame my work partly too because it keeps me busy ever since the world began, but I can always squeeze in my virtual hassles in the evening despite a busy day job. Apparently, the past few days have been just so toxic, but it’s a good kind of stressor for me. I love the kids popping into our lives and in the house occasionally. It gives a different kind of joy, it must be a bit tiring but manageable. I just have to scrap out some guilty pleasures, like Netflix, read.cash and my routine exercise in the morning. Hopefully, I’m back in full swing starting today.
So, yes, I went missing for almost a week. My nephews and niece have been keeping me busy. We went swimming almost every day since Thursday! We literally swim the week away, lol!
**I know anyone can relate how tiresome your body gets after some hours of swimming. Have you experienced that too?**
Yep, that’s what happened to me. After an afternoon with them in the pool, spring, or on the beach, I’m so exhausted in the evening that I could only tap a few messages to read and to reply on my phone. My eyes would completely give up in doing anything else. It’s amazing how I could fall asleep so fast, lol! I no longer need Netflix for that, haha!
Our hometown, Iligan City, is known to be the “City of Majestic Waterfalls,” thus obviously we have lots of spring resorts and swimming pools nearby. In our neighborhood, we already have two waterfalls, and one of these is so accessible, just a 10-minute drive from home. We went there last Thursday afternoon.
My nephew’s birthday was last Friday and the kids enjoyed swimming in Taytay Resort. Another tiring day that I was so helpless to do anything online in the evening, lol! I’ll be writing about it in a separate article perhaps.
Yesterday was my grandfather’s death anniversary, and we went for a drive to my mom’s hometown. My aunt has a beach house with a small resort on the seaside, which I have shared from this blog "Fun and Sun in Windy Place Beachub Maigo." Of course, spending an afternoon on the beach got the kids thrilled again to play in the sand and in the waters, so yes it’s swimming part three for Saturday. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/fun-and-sun-in-windy-place-beachub-maigo-63ed17c5
My brother and his family traveled back to Bukidnon this morning. Aww I kinda miss the noise and chaos. While, I'm back to my old routine, the house is so silent that I can only hear the tapping of my keyboard and the sniffing of the little girl left with us. Poor thing, this is what she got from swimming the week away. I hope the little boys are all doing fine back in their home sweet home.
That's it! Thanks for reading! And, have a blessed Sunday everyone!

Pretty Messy Busy Days
That's a bit cute for a title, right?
Hi! Hello, everyone! It’s me again. I know I’ve been away for some days because life was a wee bit messy and busy for me. We have visitors in the house, and they are really good at making me preoccupied with them and the house in a mess as well.
My younger brother living in Bukidnon has three little boys, a two, four and six years old, and with that age group you can’t imagine the chaos they can create in the house, oh! Add one more, a seven year old girl from my other brother that lives with us. Our house is full of life, laughter, cutie patoties, screams, some fights and mess all together, hehe!
Well, this does not happen very often, only twice a year I guess, so I’m all good with the pretty messy busy days.
My nephew, the eldest of the three boys, will be having his birthday this coming Friday, and he has been pleading his mom and dad to spend his birthday here in our place. Of course, the parents can’t refuse because it’s school break, and it's the best time for the boys to go visit grandma and grandpa.
They rarely get the opportunity to spend his birthday outdoors because for the past years July has been a regular school day here in the Philippines. The school break was always during summer, April and May, however, this year, with the pandemic, the classes will start August, so this break is just a perfect timing for the kids. It will be a week of happiness for them, I guess, lol!
Saturday. I did a lot of cleaning, brushing and dusting around the house. I finished my "kasambahay" duties around 2pm, when I got a text message from the hospital for an on-call duty, Imagine?! Yes, I’m a superwoman too sometimes. Our visitors arrived around 9pm, and that time I’m tucked in bed, hahah! Poor superwoman, lol!
Sunday. A busy day for Tita’s duty with the four kids. The secret is just to turn on YouTube Kids or Netflix Kids channels, and I’ll be sitting in peace watching with them. Smart, eh? Then, they got bored and wanted to get some snacks, and we thought of going to McDonalds, because apparently the poor tita was also craving for a chicken sandwich, haha! Dining in is a bad idea if you’re carrying four kids, so drive thru is always the best option. Just grab the food, pay and go, haha!
Today. Monday. I was at work and my nephew texted if I could make popcorn after dinner. I said, yes, of course! But, I bought 5 packs of popcorn from the grocery instead before heading home. Brilliant! That saves time and energy, haha! Now, I can have time to write and a quick visit to my circles here in read.cash.
No Monday blues for me, only few patients today, maybe because of the constant raining, then my mind just functioned brilliantly to bypass popcorn making 101. Not a pretty messy, busy Monday at all!
Thanks for reading guys!
Stay happy and avoid the toxicity wherever you are!

The Great Classical Music Was Composed By a Deaf
This must be my last article for the week, paying tribute to all people with disabilities and the great contribution they made in society. Well, not only at the present time, the person I have in mind to showcase in my article today did make a great contribution to the history of classical music.
I want to make this final article for **National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week** more grand and special, thus let’s talk about the great composer of the most famous classical piece “Ode to Joy” by Ludwig van Beethoven. He was a German composer and pianist, and very well known in the field of classical music and orchestral work. Though he got progressively deaf at a young age, he never stopped composing and making music, and playing in the orchestra. His enthusiasm showed so immensely in the music industry. His very well known song “Ode to Joy” was created when he was already deaf, and just surprising how this song turned out to be so beautiful despite his dilemma. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphony_No._9_(Beethoven)
I have searched this song on YouTube that I wished to share with you and this is one of the great and heartwarming versions that I encountered.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbJcQYVtZMo
This is a flash mob orchestra in the streets of Barcelona, Spain, I think, if my perusal serves me right. It’s amazing how the musicians got to unite and performed superbly in a venue like this, and just brought so much joy and warmth to the crowd on this seemingly familiar spot of the city. Indeed, Beethoven made a song whose title and harmony is always captivating to any soul in the world, not just for music lovers.
Mind you, “Ode to joy” was like an anthem in Europe, used to celebrate the spirit of unity and brotherhood. Guess, this performance in the flash mob just portraits the true meaning of this song.
I also love how the video was arranged, it showed genuine joy in the eyes of the children, and how they emulated the gesture of the mob orchestra conductor while playing. The opening scene was wonderful too, the child would surely remember her penny paving way for an orchestra playing in front of you. I’m sure it will be a great memory to remember for this child and a story to tell in the future for her grandchildren as well. It’s a bit surreal too, to see musicians randomly popping out from the crowd, I can’t even imagine that there were singers with them, one was carrying her baby and that was just so extraordinary to see.
Oh well, guess I’m mesmerized and ended a chatter now about the video, let’s go back to the real deal of this article here.
One would never imagine how a musical genius like Beethoven would have a hearing loss at a young age. It must be depressing for him to embrace his sickness slowly corrupting his chances to make music. However, he proved it otherwise. This song and the rest of his compositions just personified his dedication and passion that even with his disability he can make something great.
**"So you, brothers, should run your course,**
**joyfully, like a conquering hero."** - A line from the song
Thanks for reading! Ciao!

Inspirations: Life Without Limbs
You might wonder about the title, life without limbs is just something so painful to see or experience, and being disable is so negative to perceive in this world filled with competent and self-sufficient people. One would think, how can we pull off some inspiration from these people and from their situation?
However, at the back of my mind, I was reminded of this verse from the Bible that;
**But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.** - 1 Corinthians 1: 27
People who can’t see will after all, tell stories with color and life, the deaf can inspire you just with their smile, and a paraplegic man like David Francisco from my previous article "Successful People with Disability" can indeed run and race life in his heart and mind. https://read.cash/@LykeLyca/successful-people-with-disability-65c72e84
They are people with disabilities, but they have inspiring stories to tell the world filled with able bodied men. And, they are strong, powerful and so capable of overwhelming anyone of us.
One person with a disability that has great influence in social media is Nick Vujicic. I was reminded of him when @DennMarc mentioned him from a comment in my previous article. Several years ago, when Nick got popular on Facebook and elsewhere, I have seen one of his talks about his previous struggles in life with the kind of disability he has. And, it’s amazing how great his enthusiasm towards life despite the lack he has physically.
Tonight, I went searching for him online and I’m so glad to come across his ministry **“Life Without Limbs.”** He has videos about his preachings and motivations on a YouTube channel NickVujicicTV. It’s astonishing to see that despite the fact that he literally has no limbs at all he was able to go around the world preaching the word of God and reaching the brokenhearted. https://www.youtube.com/c/NickVujicicTV
I watched the video “Selfies: Humility Looks Good,” and I love the message he shared that our limitations and differences, like his anomalies and disability, have nothing to do with our worth. Moreover, our hope is not here forever in our physical body, but rather in our spiritual being. No one is at fault that you’re born blind, or deaf, or no limbs, everything happens with a purpose, and that is for the grace of God to be shown in him (John 9:3). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIq4ZDrhONI&t=961s
Indeed, the strength, passion and willpower of these people with disabilities are something that will confuse, and amaze us as well. How do they live life so meaningful yet lacking in many ways? And, what did we do with all that we have yet we still have a life void of meaning?
How and who can fill that hole in your heart?
I hope you can check Nick Vujicic's YouTube channel and find inspiration from his videos.
Last Sunday, I have started an article showcasing Person's With Disabilities as part of the National Disability Prevention and Disability Week that we are currently celebrating this 3rd week of July. This article would be another installment of this, and I hope you won't get tired reading and keep getting inspired by their stories.
I just love this take away message I got from Nick that I would like to re-echo again with you...
**Humility Looks Good In YOU!**
Thanks for reading!

Successful People With Disability
I don’t know how anyone would define success, I think it really differs from one person to another. Well, radically, I think success is just a perspective in life. Any normal person can say that success is obscure, and not suitable for everyone in this world. But, If we, normal people can say that, how can we motivate and inspire those people who had lived with handicap and disability?
While browsing online of stories about people with disabilities, I have realized that these people are actually the ones inspiring us to live a better life. The journey they made to overcome the struggles of disability and to persevere living the life suited for them at the present were just overwhelming to say that these are success stories and they have conquered the hardest of time and situation.
Jogging my memory back to the time when I was so fond of watching talent shows on TV, I stumbled upon great musicians, singers and even songwriters who happened to have physical disabilities as well. It’s amazing that despite their condition, they continued to pursue their dreams and passion.
**David Francisco**
He is a Spinal Cord Injury survivor after a road traffic accident. However, that didn’t stop him from making songs and sing again. Just recently, I subscribed to his YouTube channel and he is really talented, not only in singing but also in playing different musical instruments like the guitar and the piano. In a documentary video, I learned that before the accident he has been recording music and all that sorts. It’s amazing how he was able to bounce back with a career and a great following on YouTube after his depressing ordeal with paraplegia. You can check out one of his videos from YouTube that I love to listen.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xot74g8FDC8
This song just speaks so much about his life and struggles. Mind you, the photos and videos from this video are his during his hospitalization and Physical Therapy sessions.
**Sirine Jahangir, IG: Sirine_music**
I’ve seen her on one of the famous talent shows in Great Britain, and she sings like an angel. Sirine is a British Pakistani who has a really touching story about her disability. I really don’t know the exact cause of her blindness but she’s not born blind actually. The blindness started when she was 11, and since then her struggles about adjusting from the colorful world she used to see disappear. However, that didn’t stop her from chasing her dreams.
**Rick Allen**
If you’re from the 90’s, you might recognize how popular “Def Leppard,” an English rock band. I can easily connect this band with their song “When Love and Hate Collide” because I can always hear this song back then in every radio station in our city. Rick Allen was that energetic drummer of the group. In 1984, he got into a tragic vehicular accident and lost his left upper extremity. I’ve seen his interview with BBC from 8 months ago, and it’s astonishing how he was able to stride back playing the drums still in perfect tune. With the help of technology, of course, his drum set was customized, more fitting for his disability. Moreover, he continues to inspire others with his art and passion for music.
There are really plenty of inspiring success stories from persons with disabilities that I can share with you here. I'm sure they too experienced the frustration and self-pity. Behind these successes are tears, sweat and labor, its a painstaking journey of falling and getting up again. I'm glad that we have these stories to reflect and be motivated to keep fighting. Perhaps in the next few days I can talk about more success stories of these people who have been making names and waves online and in the little communities they are in.
This week, I thought about writing about it to celebrate **National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation week**. This happens every third week of July here in the Philippines, though I guess the International day for Persons With Disabilities would still be in December.
Anyway, I encourage my co-authors here to celebrate with me, write and share a story of someone you follow online or anyone in your community with a disability and inspire the world with their story and dedication for self worth and social responsibility despite their disability.
Thanks for reading everyone and let me leave you with this before I hit the sack.
**"I praise YOU because I am fearfully and wonderfully made..." - Psalm 139: 14**
**Yes! You are!**

Sweet Sixteen
I accompanied my mom today to her friend’s birthday party, she's my Ninang (or godmother) as well, and I love her dearly because she used to give me chocolates when I was younger, lol!
Speaking of party, I love the food! The daughter of her friend runs a catering business and I can say that the business suits her. She’s a cheerful chatter and really a good cook like her mom. I completely enjoyed the food, and occasionally shrugging off my mom’s friends' annoying teases of “when should I get married.” Duh! Though we stayed just an hour or so, I can feel that my mom enjoyed the food, and more the company of her friends. Since the pandemic started, I guess this was the only time that she was able to go out for chit chats with her friends. I can feel that it’s a breath of fresh air for my mom.
Anyway, back to the celebrant, though she’s been through a lot, medically, including a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, Ninang was the life of the party as usual. Hugging her goodbye. I couldn’t help noticing she had nothing under her blouse, and my thoughtless self whispered, “*Ninang, you’re not wearing a bra?”*
With a twinkle in her eyes, she replied, *“I may be 70, dear. But, they’re only sweet 16.”* And, we both laugh.
At the back of my mind, I could remember that there are lots of prosthetic or postmastectomy bras available nowadays. I have seen a few from Avon, this company is actually known for its Breast Cancer Promise. I love this cause because it raises awareness for signs and early detection of breast cancer.
However, Ninang never opted to wear any of those, I don’t know why, it must be because it's a hassle? I love to think that she has no insecurities despite the image brought about by her illness and surgeries.
Indeed, everything is just a matter of perspective. And I admire the noticeably optimistic spirit of my Ninang. It made me realize that no matter how difficult life has become and how tiring each battle along the way, we can only choose to fight with a smile and attract positivity in life.
This would be it for now, I hope you had some laugh and grabbed a bit of inspiration from this short story of Ninang.
I'm a little late for bed again, so I think this will be good night.
Thanks for reading everyone and cheers!

Seems Like My Brain Feels Blank!
Hello! Ladies and gents on this side of the world! I really don’t have any agenda for my feed on read.cash today, but while going around reading some stuff from my circles here, I stumbled upon a prompt from @JonicaBradley about “Blank.” Perfect! Let’s write something about it.
Oh yes! Perfect topic, but what to write? My brain feels blank!
While flipping the gyri and digging those fissures on my brain for answers about my foggy brain feeling tonight, I have thought, okay let’s fill in the blank.
**My Brain Feels Blank**
Anyone can relate to this feeling, right? How often do we say it? Almost everyday, I guess. My patients often tell me this and it is pretty understandable for anyone who got a stroke, or who got a leg amputated because of Diabetes, so everyone who got problematic about his or her life changing health condition can feel that foggy brain feeling.
Why? It must be because of depression, I mean, who won’t get depressed when only half of their body is moving. In this case, it is cognizant to be feeling blank most of the time. Sometimes, these patients would just want to lie down and sleep because they don’t want to think about it. And, this is the challenge for carers have to deal with, encouraging and motivating them to do something meaningful is the key.
Likewise, stress can give us that blank feeling too. Normal individuals like me and you, would say it's just stress, but apparently it destroys us eventually if we don’t know how to manage it. This can give us difficulty in focusing tasks and often hard to think clearly. Actually, mental stress in the long run is the most common cause for mental illnesses. Just sad that we often take this so lightly, yeah “*it’s just stress.”*
**My Mind Goes Blank**
Ah! I think I had this moment early this morning, my mind went blank when I was asked to enter a request for the department supply in the computer. Well, I believe that it’s not because something is wrong with me physiologically, but there are times that our mind can go blank when we aren’t doing the task most of the time. Like in my case, this task is not actually my job, but our supervisor was absent today, thus I have no choice but to do it and unfortunately when I faced the requisition page my mind just went blank.
There are also times when our mind loads slowly and go blank because we don’t have enough sleep. Let me say, "been there and done that," LOL! Sometimes, I'm guilty with this. There are nights that I got hooked watching K-dramas, and I have to sleep late already because I have forgotten the time. Then my mind would go blank, missing the things that need to be done during the day. Sigh.
Sleep is so important for us to function effectively at work or even with our usual routines and errands at home. So, let us regularly try to get that enough sleep at night or nap at least 20 minutes in the afternoon.
Indeed, our mind is a constant battlefield and we have to be honest with ourselves so we won't get lost and go blank or feel blank.
Sometimes we just need to accept these burdens and learn to confide in someone. We can open up ourselves to the people we trust, or write your world and vent out. As for me, I like to meditate and pray. Casting my worries to God, and trusting Him to take the lead and give me the confidence to carry on with a sound mind and heart.
Someone once told me this,
"An empty mind makes the most noise."
So, don't keep it to yourself.
Thanks for reading!

94 Siblings... And Counting
What would you feel when you discovered that you have 94 siblings and counting?
This is just shocking, right? I mean, anyone would feel terrible how in the world you got almost a hundred siblings.
I got hooked watching this documentary film on Netflix, “Our Father.” And, just disgusting to know that a fertility doctor could actually insanely inseminate his own sperm to any woman patient he has in his clinic that is having fertility problems. He even deceived his patients claiming that the couple had successful artificial insemination with the sperm samples from their respective male partners, but instead uses his own.
It is really sickening to know that someone, a doctor who you have trusted with your health and even your life would do such a horrific thing. I searched for the trailer of this documentary film and got one on YouTube, attached it here so you’ll get a glimpse of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phQxK5u8IEs
Dr. Don Cline was known as the best infertility doctor in Indianapolis, and was known to have success rates with the artificial insemination procedures he did to his patients. The couples who were problematic in having a baby would seek his help and the woman gets a successful pregnancy. Just absurd that he used his own instead of what he claims are from medical residents for donors. His colleague doctor and nurse in his clinic didn’t even noticed how and why Dr. Cline would do this.
Then, one day, one of the siblings, Jacoba, felt different about her life as the only child after she knew that her mom sought for artificial insemination to Dr. Don Cline. Her mom told her that the doctor said that the donor sperm won’t be used more than three times, and that stimulates her to know that she might have 1 or 2 half siblings somewhere.
At 35, when commercial DNA testing was available, Jacoba tried to search her ancestry via 23andme - a DNA testing company for genetic health and ancestry. The result came and she got excited to know that she has seven siblings, instead of 1 or 2. However, that excitement got a tinge of concern knowing that the ideal use of one sperm for insemination is just three times. And, having a large population of people with the same father will result in problems of consanguinity.
Her investigation then started with the rest of the siblings in finding their real father. Moreover, from 23andme, they construed matches of cousins, and family names that might be connected to them. And, the family name Cline popped up from one person they asked that was connected to them. Dr. Donald Cline, the fertility doctor of their mothers, might be the biological father.
As the days went by, the number of siblings increased, the people concerned got emotionally burdened by the truth, and the reason why Dr. Cline would do such a thing intensified. In December 2019, this story was featured in the Dr. Phil show and the network of Cline siblings even got bigger.
Unfortunately, there is no federal law that can punish Dr. Cline, despite their efforts to right the wrong, the doctor just got away from it.
The good thing though that proceeded from the entire ordeal is the identification of fertility doctors that have been insane donors as well.
Personally, I felt sad for the children, and it's just sick for doctors to do such horrible thing. What a sad world are we in?
Anyway, thanks for reading everyone!
Sorry for my absence for some days, I'll be catching up.

Grayed Out and Grad In
Hello! Happy hump Wednesday everyone!
This morning, I woke up with a mind conditioned that today will be a busy one and indeed it was. Not that happy at all, coz I just worked my way out and tried to end my day the usual - on read.cash.
Have you experienced that feeling when you’re so busy the entire day and you just want to finish everything as it should be? Your mind works unconstrained just thinking to get it done, nothing extraordinary, mundane, typical.
Sooooo grayed out.
Sometimes, I would wonder if we could still deliver quality service despite the lack. Obviously, the Philippines produces great and world class nurses and health workers yet we still have less manpower in our workforce in the hospitals here in the Philippines. Ironic, isn’t it? I don’t want to enumerate the reasons why, every Filipino undoubtedly knows why. But, that’s not my topic today so, yes let’s proceed. By the way, patients are still improving and recovering, guess all by God’s grace.
I arrived home so tired that I skipped resting and headed to shower. A routine that I hate when I’m from hospital duty because it seems that it’s killing me, but I just want to be cautious still because Covid19 is just around the corner. And, I want my room and bed clean from hospital toxicities, lol! Anyway, the shower is refreshing, so who would hate it?
I was able to sleep an hour, then woke up around 8.30pm for dinner. Now, while scrolling Facebook I have witnessed a lot of graduation posts and of course I won’t miss our little boy’s recognition day at school in Bauang, La Union showing off his “With High Honor” reward. Truly a joy to watch, I’m a proud Tita!
Then, I stumbled upon this post from Oro Broadcast Media wherein the Graduates from Bagumbayan National High School, Taguig City sang a very touching song from SB19 “Mapa” as their graduation song. I don’t know what hit my eyes and heart because I was watching the video in tears. This song just hits me homeward bound. https://www.facebook.com/OroBroadcastMediaOnline/videos/455060192621348
I don’t know if you’ve heard this song already, but it really speaks a lot, it conveys much meaning and emotion. You can listen to it quickly here on this video from YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIfWCE2ESuo
Most graduation songs I have heard from the past are mostly something to encourage oneself to persevere and fight with your dreams and goals in life. I can remember, perhaps the graduation song we had before when I graduated was Hero by Mariah Carey and that time I bet this song was also a favorite and memorable. Then, there’s the “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten when I attended the graduation of my eldest nephew. The millennials song isn’t that bad at all, I thought.
However, the “Mapa” graduation song is something just so special. It is not only motivating and inspiring, but also caring, tenderhearted and thoughtful for the most special people in our lives whose sacrifices are unfathomable - our mothers and fathers. They didn’t wear the toga or that graduation robe, but they carry the pride just like the rest of the graduates. And, for me, they deserve all the happiness and comfort in the world.
Before ending this article, let me say my last words...
*CONGRATULATIONS, graduates and parents!*
Thank you for reading and cheers!

Virtually Smart Kiddos
I don’t know what would be the appropriate title for this super duper random article for today, but I thought whatever, haha! If you notice, the kids nowadays are virtually smarter than the rest of us. Anyone would agree, I know.
The story of my friend who now manages a printing company reminded me of my nephew when he was younger. At the age of four or five, he loved to play Starcraft- a popular online game way back, and both my sister and brother (my nephew’s dad) used to play this game too during their free time. Apparently, the curious kid would also sneak playing this game on the computer whenever he got bored playing the games on Friv.
One day, the mother got annoyed that the little boy would no longer leave the computer because he got hooked playing Starcraft. We wanted to delete it, but instead we kept the game hidden from the desktop window. Unfortunately, the boy also knows how to look for it in the folders, and to our surprise he’s playing the game again the next day.
We thought hiding it won’t solve the problem, so we desperately searched for ways to outsmart this little kiddo. How? I maneuvered the language settings of the game and set it to a foreign language. I don’t know what I picked but I’m pretty sure it was not English or Filipino. Perhaps, Chinese or French? LOL!
Again, surprisingly, our jaws dropped when we saw my nephew navigate the game from the intro to the finale of the game flawlessly clicking the jargoned buttons like crazy! Oh well, we realized that even if it was set in our language or English, he would know everything without reading because 5-year old’s don’t read, they memorize!
Sigh. Better delete Starcraft then! LOL!
My lady friend and mom whom I had an opportunity to play catch up over dinner had a wee bit similar experience with her son.
Back at work, being a manager, she instituted a rule that there would be no playing games on the computers. The games were all deleted, and to avoid being a hypocrite she had an Information Technologist get rid of the games on her laptop too.
One evening, she was shocked to find her son playing solitaire on it. She asked if he had loaded the game. But, answered “No, it was already there. It was just hidden- taken off from the main menu and desktop window.”
The next day, she chided the information technologist in the office for not deleting the game as her child was able to play. “But,” he explained, “I thought I just had to keep it away from you- not from your six year old."
Oh well, smart kids!
I hope this super duper random article cheers up your evening/ day, everyone!
Thanks for reading!
