we call it "puso sa saging". Puso - if you're referring to the banana bell. Saging, by the way, is the banana fruit, or the banana itself. And I'm new here, so I don't know how to use the "@". Not sure if mentioning my only friend here works. @Dolores

This is banana. It's not actually tree since its body is too soft to be a tree. Its fruit is very delicious. It comes in many varieties. There were big, small, reddish, green and yellow. In our place, in the southern part of Cebu, Philippines, we believe in an old story about this one. According to the elders, during the full moon, the heart ( whichsort of the flower before it becomes a fruit to harvest), there is a magical teardrop that falls from it. Anyone who can swallow that teardrop will be granted a superpower. But, that is not easy. Many elemental forces are intersted with that power. Including the supernaturals.

I strongly believe in that story when I was a child. But now, that I'm in my late 20s I started to doubt its truthness. I am always the one who harvest the bananas in our farm and I can't imagine a tear drol coming out from that...

When the banana plant grows, the tuber stops producing new leaves and begins to form flower spikes or inflorescences. Waists develop that grow upward within the pseudostem, carrying an immature swastika until they finally appear at the top. Each petiole normally produces one inflorescence, also known as the "banana heart". (Sometimes several are formed; one remarkable plant in the Philippines produced five. @Jane
