All organizations or companies need leaders to stand but only they can be successful when they are led by great leadership. Perhaps, great leadership comes with no certain way of having one, but definitely, what makes leadership great is a great leader. This brings us to an attempt to answer the question “What makes a great leader? What qualities does he have that make him successful?”.
**a. Goal-driven**. Nothing is more important than having a leader with a sincere purpose- to be guided by the company’s vision and mission.
**b. Decisive.** Taking responsibility in every situation means not being afraid to make even hard decisions that are based on reason and are objective.
**c. Transparent.** A true leader needs followers who are truthful to him too. Building honest relationships by telling his people what is expected from them and by showing what a leader wants and does not in a group requires acceptance among followers which means embracing who he is as a leader.
**d. Competent.** Becoming a successful leader means having a high level of knowledge in the field and about the company- the products, processes, and services.
**e. Good communicator.** The key to having motivated, disciplined, and well-directed followers is being a skilled communicator. Having this quality as a leader means having control over his people in a way not threatening but still goal-oriented.
**f. Charismatic.** Whether we like it or not, we cannot deny the fact that a great leader is someone who is liked by many, especially in an organization. A leader who is liked by his people is more likely to be followed too because of his relatable experience and approachable personality.
**g. Energetic and Optimistic.** Having a number of people in an organization requires having a leader who is sociable. Being the light among his people, a great leader must keep the torch lighting, especially in times of failure.
**h. Empowered.** Being a great leader in a great company always comes to an end, but having great leadership may not. This can only happen if once and for all, he is empowering also his people while leading them. It means having faith in his people that the next leader would be as great as him or even greater by providing training among employees who have the potential to become one like him.
All of these qualities are truly the ones we need in a leader to be successful in attaining our goals. Each leader has to live up to his full potential and only by having these qualities that he can do it. As an outcome, the people would follow because they know they have someone leading them on the right path.

**A Proposal: A Change of Policy on MTB-MLE**
MTB-MLE Policy should be implemented in all schools in the country. However, the mother tongue/ first language to be used as a medium of instruction in schools within urban areas should be the national language which is Filipino.
This policy is proposed based on the following considerations:
The residents of rural areas are mostly living in those places within a long period of time; while the residents of urban areas can possibly not living within those places for a long period of time, or have moved to those places from other towns or regions in the country, e.g. a child who was born in Pampanga moved together with his family in La Union.
There is certainty of language/ dialect used in rural places; while there is confusion as to what language/ dialect is used in urban areas, e.g. a pupil speaks Iloko at home, but talks to his friends in Filipino because his friends used to speaking Filipino at home.
Most teachers who teach in rural areas are residents of those places; while most teachers who are assigned in urban areas come from various parts of the country, e.g. a teacher who came from a barrio decided to apply in a school in the City.
It is easier to master a dialect/ first language when there is only a few variation of the language as observed in rural places; than to master a dialect/ first language which has many variations as observed in urban areas, e.g. the Iloko dialect of someone who lives in San Fernando City, L.U. differs from someone who came from Laoag, I.N. who prefers studying in a school in S.F.C.
The considerations for this proposal are based on observations. They may be affirmed or negated, but they can be taken into account as bases for the approval of this change in the present policy in the country’s educational system.
