Facing your phobias?
Since then, I've known that I'm a brave young lady. I enjoy going on adventures and can attest to the fact that I am self-sufficient. But there are a few things I don't want to tell other people because they might use them against me. But for today's blog, I'd want to share with you some of the details, particularly my fears.
Are you aware of your phobias?
A phobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by a persistent and excessive dread of a specific object or scenario. Phobias are characterized by a sudden onset of fear that lasts for more than six months. (Sauce)
Science says that phobia is a mental illness and a type of anxiety disorder. When you confront the source of your fear if you have a phobia, you may feel a deep sensation of anxiety or panic. A dread of a certain location, scenario, or thing can exist. People with phobias are typically aware that their dread is unjustified, yet they are unable to change it. Work, education, and personal relationships can all be affected by such worries.
So, for today, let's talk about some of the most common phobias that people have.
Coulrophobia
This makes people fear of clowns. This reminds me of my sister, who has it. I'm not sure when her anxiety started, but she never watches movies with clowns in them, as far as I can tell. Are you familiar with Pennywise and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland? She despises it, and if you try to trick her with clowns, be prepared for an all-out conflict in your house.
Thalassophobia
This phobia is defined by a fear of deep bodies of water, such as the sea or the ocean. I believe my spouse suffers from a phobia of water, which explains why he is terrified of swimming. So, I spoke with him and we agreed to take a swimming lesson as soon as possible.
Actually, the image above is located here in Palawan, Philippines. The name of this lake is Barracuda Lake. I had seen so many videos of this lake in Tiktok and I can say the place is really wonderful and majestic. But of course, I have fear of this kind of deep waters and I am really scared to try a free diving sesh here. Anyone here who knows how to dive???
Trypophobia
This is fear of small holes. I don't like to put some image of this because this can really trigger my anxiety. But yeah, now you know so don't ever try to send me images of this! Or else, fight me!!
Claustrophobia
The phobia of enclosed spaces is this one. I've never met somebody with this, but I recall having some strange dreams in which I was trapped inside a specific object, which terrified me.
Enochlophobia
This one is about being fearful of crowds. Years ago, when Oplan Tokhang was in effect, I recall feeling this kind of phobia. Some individuals had been killed in our neighborhood, and I was worried to go out thinking that I might get also shot in the head.
In terms of conquering these phobias that I described before, psychology does not know exactly what causes them, but I feel that something triggers them. Because I, too, have some of these, I've found that facing them carefully is the best approach. I always remind myself to overcome my worries in order to grow stronger and more independent. People will use it against you if you don't confront it.
