Yet, death is still inescapable despite our ways in every day and in our endeavors. We have to remember that there is a time to live; and there is a time to rest. There is a time to preserve; and there is a time to change. What matters most is our human effort that we have done our best to live this life at its best. What matters most is we have spent our lives in saving what we can save and passing them to those who are next line. What then will happen will depend on how the new will go about it; how the new will also save it; and how the new will accept it. What they will value will matter and with those that they give of importance are the only ones, languages, to live longer in their lives. Time will come that new languages will be spoken. Time will come that new languages will evolve from the languages we are using today. Time will come but a few new languages will rise until people will realize that they are already speaking the languages that do not tell of what they were and who they are; they will realize that they have been fascinated by the world’s fame and prestige. So as to now, it is a time to reflect that we can make the languages that we use today have a longer life because we have saved them. It is sad to say that we are not consistent with our thoughts and that sometimes we want to be the same as what we see in our environment. But then, this is not enough reason to just be like many. In many ways, being different is a strong indicator that we have a strong personality, that we are capable of preserving the good ones amidst the inevitable change in this world, that we are capable of saving our own languages from their own death. And that at the end of the day, death will come but its fate depends on our own hands. Hence, death is our responsibility. It makes us fear but we who are young and capable can make something to live longer than we expect. We can save languages from death once we start using them and making others realize how important they are in our crafts, in our lives, in our profession, and in all of who we are. We may not have saved it everlasting but at least once in our lives, we have spent time being proud of our own identity. I myself is responsible for my death so as to language; I am responsible for what footprints to leave may they be permanent or temporary. I am capable of leaving a memory to be known or to be used by the next generation; and I am capable of telling through my legacy that I can never leave my life in abstraction without the words I have said. In the end, I have to accept my fate. I have to accept that death will come but then, I believe that it will come because it has its own reason that only the divine can tell why and when. It will come at its beauty for there is a beauty in death. Until one day, I will be reincarnated in another form, a form that is not me but the people will find better than me until they forget that I have once lived like the languages I have once uttered to tell the world I was here. As for me, there is a need to take action to save a life that should also be done to save languages from death. There is a need to preserve and revitalize these languages; and there is a need for me as a language teacher to promote them to everyone especially to my students. Therefore, it can be much challenging for me to do it now in this world where predominant languages have become in demand in fashion, business, and entertainment. In such a way, preservation is quite arduous; and it is difficult to do it alone. It should be mandated by the government so as to include the recordings, documentation, and writing systems in the curriculum which are then seen in my classroom instruction. This is truly difficult; and even revitalizing languages is also another thing. It requires another way of preventing language death by giving new life to languages. People must be interested in using languages which are native or which are spoken by the old generation. Thus, time is required to love languages people do not always use; and situations they find these languages in purpose are necessary. In the field of education here in the Philippines, multilingualism, localization, and contextualization are of the implications of the possible ways to save languages from death. Multi-lingual education especially among elementary pupils is recently advocated. This is a way to promote the native languages of the different provinces in the country in which pupils are taught concepts using their own languages. Moreover, localization and contextualization are ways to appropriately make students understand their lessons in a way closer to the things found in their own community. Yet, there is still a lot to improve among teachers for them to become conversant in teaching the children of today. As for me, English, Filipino, and Iloko are the three languages that I use in my everyday life. Primarily, Iloko is the language that I speak most when talking to my family and friends. This, I think is a way of making a language live which I know represents my identity as an Ilocano. This is also the best way to show reflexivity since a way to preserve it is to use it. In the classroom, English is what I use most of the time particularly in giving instructions and conducting lectures. Yet, this language does not limit the freedom of expression in terms of explaining and sharing ideas among students. Students are allowed to code-switch prior to when they are having a hard time expressing themselves in English. This is a way for students to feel that they are accepted and that their own languages matter in the classroom as they stand for who they are. Thus, allowing students to speak in whatever languages they want to use is a way of telling them that they do have a role in the revitalization of their native languages. Has it something to do with diversity because of a stronger representation of a community or group of language users? Or is it connected to the human activities in any circumstances which can be beneficial or degrading to society? Does it have any relevance to our history? So what if it has? Can it help us explain our situation today? Can it teach us lessons in life especially in making decisions not only in our households but also in our policies within the school and in our country? Or can it provide solutions to the problems we are facing nowadays? Does it even give us the opportunity to learn even without understanding all of the worlds? Does it offer knowledge that can be our wisdom in building a community of peace, safety, and progress? Does the knowledge we can learn from it be essential as we take part in our own endeavors? Can it even explain scientifically what we are? Can it tell us how our brain works? How our brain sends, stores, and receives the information? Or can it even identify what our potentials are specifically along with fields where we are considered experts? Has it something to do with identity? An identity that represents who we are as a nation? As a gender? As a family member? As a person? As a rational being? As a child? And as a God’s creation? What can it contribute to me as a person? Can it answer my questions in life? Also, what is its importance to me as a teacher? Is it necessary in promoting respect and appreciation of a person? Can it aid my instruction in crafting my materials? Can it guide me in choosing what approach and method to use in teaching? Can it even ease the ability of all to understand every individual in a classroom? Or can it even teach values that should reflect who we are as a nation and as a family? The questions provoke me to say yes, but the reasons beyond are just vague without me doing something about it. The following are the variables which play essential roles in the process: **Inputs.** These include sources of knowledge of a language which can include arrays of materials and experiences. Conversations, speeches, textbooks, mass media, internet, lectures, and etc. are examples of these. Inputs serve as starting points for a person to initiate acquisition and learning. **The Brain.** The inputs are processed by the brain through cognitive/ mental processes. Information can either be stored in short or long term memory depending on the relevance of ideas. These inputs now become schemata or prior knowledge which becomes meaningful as a person uses them in life applications. Moreover, this can be supported by the Neurofunctional Theory and brain lateralization which point to language functions of the brain. **The Heart.** The heart is only a representation of feelings and emotions, and its analogy to human experiences which can be reflected important elements in language acquisition and learning: Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation ***Intrinsic Motivation*****.** This variable includes self-efficacy, self-worth, and self-esteem. This serves as a driving force for a person to acquire or learn a language that becomes meaningful and purposeful in real-life situations. ***Extrinsic Motivation.*** This variable comes from the environment including physical, material, financial, and other elements coming from the outside. This kind of motivation, though not as important as intrinsic, is a part of the process, especially among young learners.             These two variables are complementary. With praises, rewards, and punishments, they can be classified as positive, negative, progressive, or destructive depending on a person’s perception. They supplement the brain where information is processed and where the memory determines what to be retained and to be freed. **Intervention.** This variable occupies the space between the brain and the heart. This refers to the support or assistance given by a learned or an expert who can provide exercises, strategies, or methodologies helpful in a person’s language acquisition and learning. It can be aligned to Lev Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory specifically along scaffolding and zone of proximal development. **Environment.** This variable refers to the context/ situation where the language is used. The formality, **The Hands.** According to Aristotle, the hand is the "tool of tools."The hands represent ***Language Application/ Manipulation*** which includes having fluency in speaking, reading, and writing, and having good listening skills. Ethical Obligations of a Researcher Research is a tedious task. It does not only require researchers to write and report. There are also guidelines and protocols they need to follow. These protocols would require them to understand their ethical obligations which include the following: **Honesty and Objectivity** The findings or results of the study need to be reported based on observation, survey, test, or experiments. Researchers are not allowed to manipulate them for personal gain or interests. The methodology, data collection, interpretation, and presentation needs to be done accordingly without any bias. **Critical Analysis and Confidentiality** All information included in the research needs to be reviewed carefully to ensure the credibility of data. Gathered data must be kept with confidentiality for future reference. **Respect for Intellectual Property** Plagiarism is a major concern in conducting research. Proper citation and referencing or asking permission from the authors or contributors need to be observed. Any intellectual property needs to be acknowledged in these ways. **Responsible Publication** Publication of research needs to be done for the purpose of community development and not for career advancement. Legal procedures need to be conformed according to the rules and laws that govern the study. **Justifiable Use of Animals for Experiments** Researchers are only allowed to use animals as subjects for experiments that would justify the results of their study. Animal care needs to be taken into consideration. The exploitation of these species especially the endangered ones is highly discouraged. **Respect for Human Rights** The use of human beings for experiments needs to undergo a series of tests and consultations to reduce the harmful impacts. It emphasizes individual existence, freedom, and choice. It is the view that humans define their own meaning in life, and try to make rational decisions despite existing in an irrational universe. It holds that society is unnatural and its traditional religious and secular rules are arbitrary. **Roles of the Teacher** The teacher’s role is to help students define their own essence by exposing them to various paths they may take in life and creating an environment in which they may freely choose their own preferred way. The teacher must build positive relationships between himself and his students. He should avoid applying labels to children (such as ‘lazy’, ‘slow learner’ etc.) for individuals who may indeed come to think of themselves this way. **Models /Strategies**  Existentialist methods focus on the individual. Writing a Research: How do we write the Background of the Study? The background of the study is the part of our research that introduces the topic of our study. It is essential for us to narrow down the problem in our study from global to local scenarios through facts, figures, and causal analysis from authoritative sources. It is also empirical that we discuss the problem situation from macro to micro until we come up with a clinching statement or paragraph that links the situational analysis to the proposed study. Here is a sample outline on how we can write the background of the study from one paragraph to another: PARAGRAPH 1: Give a broad overview of your research by using your own words, followed by a statement coming from a source. PARAGRAPH 2: Focus on your research topic by defining it. What is ________ according to a number of authors? PARAGRAPH 3: Underscore the importance of the study. What is the relevance of your topic in its field of specialization? PARAGRAPH 4: Cite the situation problem in the global context. PARAGRAPH 5: Cite situation problem in the national and local context. *Note: If it’s necessary, you can have 2 or more paragraphs for your global and local situation problem analysis.* PARAGRAPH 6: Identify the gap in current literature and studies and observations that warrant the conduct of the study. Cultural Communities Week With the modernization around the world, our national and cultural identity needs to remain among us. It is quite disappointing to see that the progress we see around does not constitute the preservation of indigenous practices and beliefs. As a response, President Corazon Aquino declared the second week of July CULTURAL COMMUNITIES WEEK by virtue of Proclamation No. 250 signed on April 20, 1988. This celebration aims to promote the importance of indigenous tribal Filipinos to national unity and development, recognizes the need to promote and preserve their rich cultural heritage, not only for the Philippines but also for the world.
