For indigenous people, languages not only identify their origin or membership in a community, they also carry the ethical values of their ancestors – the indigenous knowledge systems that make them one with the land and are crucial to their survival and to the hopes and aspirations of their youth.”- Minnie Degawan

Language is as important as one’s identity. It is not only used to communicate but serve as evidence that you belong to a certain group of people. Indigenous language for instance reflects indigenous people. The state of it today is similar- both are in an edge of disappearance. One reason why indigenous language becomes nearly forgotten is because of the years of discrimination. Some parents teach and talk to their children in dominant language rather than with their mother tongue in order to create opportunity for their social success since indigenous people were given a less chance of receiving favorable juncture. As a result, children cannot communicate with their grandparents since their mother tongue is often used by elders. We can say that language is part of culture, and culture is what we inherit from our ancestors but if this continues, it is possible that our children will not be able to recognize the existence of indigenous language. We are not ignorant to the fact that it is at risk, so the next step that we have to take is to find ways to preserve this. Language preservation is carried out to prevent languages from being forgotten. We can contribute on preserving it. Take action. Do it in your own little way. Teach children your mother tongue. If we manage to study other languages it’s not hard to use what we already know, what we already have, and what we can call our own. Speak with your identity, communicate with the culture you have. In this way, indigenous language will never ever be forgotten.

Each language or dialect is unique. It represents the ethnic identity of the group in which people belong to. Preserving it means preserving the race, culture, tradition and identity.

We'll our schools for today is now offering mother tongue in elementary. It's good to know that some schools now have the ability to cope up with the preservation of our own cultural language. This will greatly helps.

Yes, especially here in our province, we're in part of Bicol region wherein Filipino language is dominant and used frequently. Schools did a great job for adding mother tongue subject so children will be able to learn bicol dialect.

Language sure shouts the race and origin of a certain country. And its just so good that here in our country, schools are now using their local language or mother tongue to teach children.

Indeed, a great way to preserve language is to teach it to younger generation.
