The Real Miracle Is You
February 8, 2022
After surfacing the pressure, what else can we do?
Sometimes we want to shine like how others shine. To show our family something new and amazing. We are waiting for a miracle to happen. Just like in the song, "Waiting for a miracle" by Mirabel Madrigal in Encanto.
Mirabel has been longing for a miracle to fit in her family with magical powers. Being ostracized from the rest of the family, she would sometimes feel frustrated and tired waiting for the miracle, and envious of what others can do.
Do you know the feeling of being outcasted and ostracized?
You'll feel hopeless and useless, and are always not good enough to make your family proud and be appreciated by them.
However, if there's one thing that we should always put in mind, that is, "we don't need a miracle because we are perfect in our own way, and the real miracle is in us only if we can see it and if we believe in ourselves."
Just like what Mirabel's mother told her,
“I wish you could see yourself the way I do.” -Julieta
Indeed, the miracle is in us if we believe in ourselves. We don't need any miracle, we just need hope, courage, and self-trust to try things that we never thought we could do. We are just blinded by the fact that we are always good enough and we can do what others can do in our own unique way because of the relentless pressure and high expectations people around us are throwing at us.
Moving forward...
Encanto truly teaches us a lot of family lessons. La Casita, for instance, symbolizes our home, the candle which they called Miracle represents love, trust, and hope of our family, and each member of the family serves as the strong foundation of our home.
The metaphor of Casita's cracking only shows that a home would break if the family living in it are losing hope and trust in each other. The home would turn into a chaotic house, and worse it would break into pieces that are too tough to build again, just like what happened to Casita in Encanto. Until all members of the family helped each other to bring back their harmonious home.
In real life, the family becomes the strongest when an unfortunate crisis arises. And there isn't magic, fictitious powers, and whatsoever that could recover things that have been ruined. So each member of the family should fight against all odds. That's when the magic becomes real, the impossible becomes possible, and the miracle happens.
Another lesson that we should learn from here is, "the truth will set us free." Just like I mentioned in my previous article Surface Pressure, the three sisters Mirabel, Luisa, and Isabel are in denial, even Abuela. The cheerful Mirabel was actually unhappy and striving to fit in with her family with magical powers. The strong Luisa was actually vulnerable and tired. The perfect Isabel actually wants to be imperfect and do more than just blooming beautiful flowers.
And Abuela, whom they thought is high-spirited, was actually worried about losing Miracle, and feared losing her family again. And that's why she set high expectations and wanted her family to have magical powers so she wouldn't lose them. Unbeknownst to her, the high expectations only put pressure on all of them and made her family think that they are not good enough. But unbeknownst to her family, she has been carrying that burden over the years and it's weighed her down when the family has been put into turmoil.
But in the end, the truth and surprising revelations have set them free. Moreover, the reunion and reconciliations between Bruno and the rest of the family have only made the Madrigal family even stronger and brought back the harmony within the family.
Another commendable act from the movie is how the community helped rebuild La Casita. They may don't have magic, but they are enough to rebuild the wrecked Casita.
This only shows how good the influence and impact of the Madrigal family in the community is as they are willing to help them back in the time when they needed more helping hands the most. Indeed, our actions always reflect on who we are. When we show goodness to people, they will repay it unhesitantly.
The truth, reconciliation, and reunion brought back harmony within the Madrigal family, and with the help of the community, La Casita was rebuilt. Mirabel's trust in herself and the love shown by her family has helped her acquire the magic that she thought she'll never have and regained the magical powers of the rest of the Madrigal family.
Closing Thoughts
Let's not carry all the pressure when we can ask for help from the family. We don't need to be perfect because we are beautiful in our own unique imperfections. And let's not be in denial and act we are okay when the truth is we are unhappy and breaking deep inside. Because only the truth could set us free.
Moreover, we don't need a miracle to do great things and be accepted and appreciated by society and our families. We just have to believe in ourselves and a real miracle will happen. We could move mountains with our strong faith. We could bloom flowers with our strong hope. We could heal our wounded self, stop a storm and pave way for the sun, see the vision, be the person we wanted to be, and do impossible things if we could see ourselves the way we should see it, only if we believe in ourselves.
Because the real miracle is in us
I'll leave you this song "All Of You," the finale song of Encanto where everyone helped to rebuild Casita and the Madrigal Family regained their magical powers.
