MidNight Gems - Undiscovered, Underrated and Forgotten Songs vol.31 "Strawberry Moon"
For those of you that are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing covers and tonight I have a confession to make.....
I love the Killers and I love the new Album Pressure Machine which contains so many perfect little small-town gems.
1. Killers ft Phoebe Bridgers - Runaway Horses
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6nU2aoqNsw&list=PLxA687tYuMWibHj9KrnaXbwX_9S9v3wyL&index=6
Such a perfect little song....
I have a weak spot for perfect little songs and I will shine a little light on my weak spot tonight. This next one is another perfect example of a little town girl song.
2. Neil Halstead - Full Moon Rising
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8brjvcOK2A
Tricked you! You must have expected a Phoebe song.
And it should have come of course.
Come on, if we are talking gems, it´s the minimal support of Phoebe that gives the Killers song that additional haunting feeling under that Strawberry Moon.
3. Phoebe Bridgers - Moon Song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXqZ66XK3z8&list=OLAK5uy_nCKbA26LZEUYWMJ8Ig11r1uDalG3zvCTo&index=7
This next one might sound a little out of place, but it´s so simple so perfect that I just had to share it. I am just a sucker for perfect little songs with a touch of country and a voice like a Wolf.
4. Kate Wolf - The Rising of the Moon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwcFTK928kE&list=PLEm1FI1Bt4sSduNRhJXg--7CL7SCIJbM4&index=13
This moon gets me thirsty, I can use a drink with a bite or a sting.....no better place to get that on Bourbon Street on a night like this. From all the Sting songs ever somehow this is my favorite...no I am lying it´s Russians but they have nothing with the Moon....well Lying again they send the first man to the moon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHylQRVN2Qs
5. Sting - Moon Over Bourbon Street
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A_3M6pkMls&list=PL-IWSHzVoNP8SeIduO0_U9aWWUyPwUBA_&index=108
Clouds are becoming darker.....and then there is this beautiful light as if I am eye to eye with an angel....close it´s Assia & Giolì and this acoustic session for me is tonights biggest gem....it´s the moonlight stroking your face and telling you everything is gonna be alright.
6. Giolì & Assia - #AcousticSession of Moon Faces EP https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/acousticsession
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUkHyivLH8k
It´s getting even darker. Wind heavy on the ground A cloak before the moon I guess I've never known and yes I knew Agnes Obel prior to watching the Irregulars.....although it fitted the show perfectly such a shame they will make only one season
7.Agnes Obel - Run Cried The Crawling
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpFAPApnzGE
Sie leben hinterm sonnenschein
getrennt von uns unendlich weit
sie müssen sich an sterne krallen(ganz fest)
damit sie nicht vom himmel fallen
Which means as much as....
They live behind the sunshine
separated from us infinitely far
they have to cling to stars (very tight)
so that they don't fall from the sky
The rest I leave to your imagination, but this is still my favorite Rammstein song and Annett...don't get me started on that gorgeous German Gem.
8. Annett Louisan - Engel(Rammstein)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2oRBPfTChU
This has been a very dark night....and a very long trip to the moon and not yet back. But let´s get back with this last little gem, maybe you heard it already I did not and I listen and know both artists but this collab seems to have passed me by.....
Let´s take the elevator back to earth and with an elevator, we need some elevator music......from the Foo Fighters
9. Foo Fighters featuring Norah Jones - Virginia Moon

Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.
My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.

Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years....Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
Hope you enjoyed this slightly confronting wave of amazing music and you still feel like joining me on the next trip as vol. 32 of Midnight Gems is coming soon.
