"Magna Cum Laude": My Top 3 Greatest Achievements My previous blogs focused on mistakes, challenges, and disappointments. But this time, let me talk about some of my biggest achievements in life. No, I'm not bragging about them. I'm here to inspire you, especially college students, and people who see themselves as failures. I hope this helps! 1. Magna Cum Laude When I entered college, I promised myself that I will not leave the Polytechnic University of the Philippines as a regular graduate. I fulfilled this goal by graduating with flying colors. I was the top one in our section composed of more than 50 communication students. My General Weighted Average (GWA) was 1.47. In May 2014, I walked on the stage of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) as one of the Magna Cum Laude students of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. My parents were really proud because I was also the first Magna Cum Laude in our entire bloodline. 2. Employee Of The Year My achievements didn't stop in school. In 2020, I was picked as one the top employees of our company. I received the so-called *"Above and Beyond Award".* The company recognized my passion at work for continuing to fulfill my duties inside the office and braving the contagious COVID-19. While some of my officemates opted to work from home, I volunteered to stay in the newsroom to continue the smooth airing of our shows. This is the first time that I received an award in my 6 years in the news industry. 3. Senior News Producer Not everyone can last long in the busy, noisy, messy, and crazy world of news. Delivering information to millions of people everyday is a big responsibility. That's why I consider my current job as one of my biggest achievements. In 2014, after I finished my degree, I entered the news industry as a production assistant. During my first month, I promised myself that I will not stay in this positon for long and I will produce my own shows. True enough, this dream came into a reality. For the full story on how I became a journalist, you can check out this link. https://read.cash/@remofm/paano-maging-mamamahayag-sa-pilipinas-kwento-ng-isang-news-producer-47c7c5a0 You know, it was easy to write about these achievements. But the story and journey behind them were really hard. Truly, there is no easy way to success. Before I reached the top, I started from the bottom and crawled my way to the ladder. If you're losing hope, I hope you can read this. Just like what I always say on the comment section, just keep going! Now, it's your turn! Tell me about your greatest achievements in life in the comment section below. I would love to know your story!

Finally, Here's What Happened To The Crypto Job Offer That I Got After weeks of waiting, and writing a script and storyboard for a crypto-related video, the decision is finally here. No more long and flowery introduction. The crypto website ****REJECTED**** me. Here's what happened. Interview With The Website's General Manager This story started when I got a job offer from a random user on LinkedIn. You can read the full story here. https://read.cash/@remofm/i-got-a-crypto-related-job-offer-shall-i-take-it-8010f5c3 Fast forward to the interview. Last October 20, the website's general manager emailed me about the initial interview. After a short exchange, we agreed to virtually meet on October 22. The interview went well. The website's GM was really polite and friendly. She was not intimidating at all. The virtual meeting was more of a conversation than an interview. We talked about the website, my current job, and of course, crypto. In the end, she said that I need to write a script and create my own storyboard for a 5-minuter YouTube video. She added that further instructions will be emailed within the day. The virtual meet ended after 15 minutes. Writing The Script And Creating A Storyboard She asked me to write about this topic: *"How DeFi is changing our financial systems?"* She gave me 3 days to complete the script and storyboard. October 25 was my deadline. After reading the email, I felt cold on my spine and shivered. I had no idea about what she just sent me! Being a crypto beginner who just started joining this new world, it was a real challenge. My 7-year experience as a journalist had nothing to contribute. Plus, it was also difficult for me to research, write, and create my output while still fulfilling my duties in the newsroom. But of course, I didn't back down. I gave it a shot! Right after my work shift, I immediately researched about DeFi. I read countless articles from different crypto websites and watched videos on YouTube. I did all that on the night of October 22. The next day, I wrote my script. Even after reading and watching about DeFi, it was still hard to write about it. It was also extra difficult to complete the script because I had errands to do and some responsibilities to fulfill in the office. But I tried my best. It took me until October 24 to finish my script. I was sleepless for two nights. My fitness journey was even compromised because I had no time to workout and prepare my meals. On October 25, the pressure was on! I just finished the script but my storyboard was still empty. So right after my work shift, I went straight to my laptop to make one. It was another difficult task because I never made a storyboard in my entire life. Again, I tried my best. Fortunately, I was able to create one. I submitted my output just an hour before the deadline ended. The Waiting Game The next day, I didn't get a response from the website's GM. So I tried to follow up with the guy who messaged me on LinkedIn. He said that he also had not heard from the GM, too. On October 27, the GM finally emailed me and said that they were still evaluating the submissions of all the candidates. I waited. I stopped following up the entire week but I kept my eye on my email and LinkedIn profile. I was expecting them to message me anytime. But there was nothing. The people who were friendly and enthusiastic to offer me a crypto-related job went silent. "You Are Not The Leading Candidate" On November 3, I followed up with the website's GM again. Still no answer for a day. Until on the dawn of November 4, I saw a notification and read her name. I was excited to read her email! *"Thanks for following up! Unfortunately, you are not the leading candidate for this role but we are definitely keeping you in mind for future opportunities when we expand to do daily news update videos! Keep working on your crypto knowledge in the meantime!"* I was ****REJECTED****. It saddened me to think that I spent almost my entire weekend, temporarily stopping my workout routine and preparing my meals, and canceling some of my errands, just to complete the script and storyboard. I felt like a waste and the dumbest person in the cryptoverse. It broke my heart. I pitied myself. At least, for a moment. Here's why. After reading the email, I immediately informed the guy who messaged me on LinkedIn about my fate on this crypto website. Here's what he said: *"Sorry to hear that. I will keep you on file though when the time comes that they wanna move forward with the more news forward video content. Thanks!"* Lessons Learned His message uplifted me. Because if you read the GM's email and the guy's message, there was one thing in common: news video content. I realized that I was not the dumbest in cryptoverse at all. I was just not the perfect fit for the writer/producer for the website's video outputs because what I created was more inclined to news than a feature one. I was not also a loser because this experience helped me understand everything about DeFi and how it can challenge the banks, open my mind to new opportunities, and accept rejections while continuing to improve myself. I told you in the first part of this story that I was half-hearted to accept the offer whenever I got positive feedback. Since we're already here, this might mean that the news industry still needs me, especially since the Philippines election is approaching. Have you experienced the same rejection from an employer? Tell me about how you dealt with it in the comment section below.

I'M OFFICIALLY BACK! I'M STILL ALIVE AND ACTIVE! Finally, I'm writing a new entry. My hell weeks in the office are over so I've got more time for noise.cash and read.cash. New articles will be published starting this weekend. My newest entry will be about the developments on the crypto job offer that I got. I've got major update! Seriously, I have 2 weeks worth of notifs. I haven't opened the panel for almost half a month. I guess I have a lot of catching up to do. See you around guys!

@remofm

ANOTHER HELL WEEK FOR ME AND I'M SO SICK OF IT It's been over a week already since I last made an article. I have missed most of your blogs too. Engagement is also imbossible because I'm too busy at work. I have been finishing two major projects this week: one, my script and storyboard for the crypto news website that I'm applying for though I'm done with my output already, I'm just waiting for the company's feedback; and two, a feature story about fitness that we will air on Friday. Writing the script for this story is just one thing, I'm also the one contacting resources persons and case studies, and collating and researching materials. Because of too much work, I have not been eating my usual healthy food and settling with processed and fast food since Friday. No work outs and enough sleep too. I hope to finish everything this week and get back on track starting this weekend. I hope you're not suffering the same situation as me. Take care everyone! I guess I'll see you on Sunday.

Aside From Crypto, This Is Where I Put My Money Achieving financial freedom is one of my goals because being a corporate slave is not the life that I'm dreaming of. That’s why as early as now, I’m already learning how to exit the rat race. In this entry, I talked about where I put my money to live a comfortable life soon without relying on paychecks. 1. PAG-IBIG MP2 2018 to Present Value: Php7X,XXX Since 2018, I’ve been putting a portion of my 13th-month pay and bonuses in the Pag-IBIG MP2. This is the voluntary savings program of the housing agency where **you can earn up to 8% dividend every year**. My invested funds have so far gained more than Php5,XXX within 2 years. I’m still pouring more money into my account for the next 3 years to complete as I complete the 5-year lock-in period. 2. BPI EQUITY INDEX FUND (UITF) 2020 to Present Value: P8X,XXX Saving up for retirement at a young age is necessary. If you haven’t started yours, you better ask yourself when. I’ve been setting aside money for my retirement fund since 2019. But instead of locking it in a regular savings account that only promises less than 1% of interest, I’ve decided to put it in the Unit Investment Trust Fund or UITF offered by BPI. Under UITF, my money is invested in companies listed under the Philippine Stocks Exchange or PSE. **It’s a long-term investment that I intend to hold for 15 years.** It’s high-risk that also promises high returns. 3. EMERGENCY FUND 2018 to Present Value: P1XX,XXX Aside from a retirement fund, an emergency fund is also a must. This is **worth 3 to 6 months of your monthly salary**. You can use the money in emergency situations such as losing your job or getting hospitalized. Since I started to save this fund, I decided to split it into two different banks – **CIMB and Security Bank.** SECURITY BANK It’s just a regular savings account that holds Php6X,XXX of my emergency fund. I’ve saved it here to easily access the money using an ATM card whenever I need the money. CIMB This digital bank **offers 4% interest** to savers. I decided to put the other half of my emergency fund here valued at Php5X,XXX. So far, **I was able to earn more than Php1,XXX in interest in 10 months**! You wouldn’t earn that in a traditional bank just like the one mentioned above. 4. SEEDIN 2021 to Present Value: Php3,XXX You probably haven’t heard of this one. Just to give you an overview, SeedIn is a crowdfunding platform where small businesses or start-up companies pool money from investors. **They offer as much as 20% of interest per project**. I invested Php3,XXX just this March and I was able to earn more than Php1,XXX already. Since my money grew on this platform, I decided to invest more next year. 5. UNIONBANK 2020 to Present Value: Php1XX,XXX I use this account for my Pag-IBIG foreclosed property investment. This is where I save the money that I spend on the house that I bought for Php9XX,XXX. So far, I already paid about Php8X,XXX for the down payment, property insurance, and other processing fees. What’s left now in this account is a little over Php2X,XXX. 6. INVESTMENT FUND 2020 to Present Value: Php1X,XXX Right before I entered the cryptoverse, I prepared my investment fund first. This is the money that I can afford to lose which I have been building since last year. I have already invested Php2,000. I talked about that in this blog. So far, no significant loss has happened and everything is going well with my crypto investment.  https://read.cash/@remofm/i-invested-2000-40-in-crypto-as-a-newbie-heres-how-much-i-earned-556514d7 Meantime, what’s left in my fund is ready for the next bearish market. Work Hard, Save Harder, Invest Hardest It looks like a lot of money in just 3 years, right? You’re probably thinking that I’m earning big as a journalist. But I’m not. My salary is just enough for a guy who still doesn’t have his own family. No, I don’t mean to brag. I’m here to inspire all of you who finished reading this article. This is your sign to save for your future! Just like you, I’m also a regular employee who works hard and relies on a paycheck - at least for now. Achieving financial freedom is hard but with the right mindset and discipline, everything is possible. How about you? Aside from crypto, where do you put your money? Tell me in the comment section below!

I Got A Crypto-Related Job Offer! Shall I Take It? I know it’s still premature to share this because nothing is final yet. But I’m just so excited to tell you about it! A New York-based crypto website wants me to be part of its team. Is it time for me to get out of my comfort zone by taking this opportunity? How It Happened Last October 13, I received an unexpected message on LinkedIn from someone outside work. I was just about to sleep that time when I thought of opening my profile. I had that feeling that there was something that I missed before I ended my day. True enough, someone from the cypto website **Aliens.com** reached out to me. As indicated in the screenshot above, the guy offered me to be part of the video production team for the site. He specifically wanted me to be one of the producers. Honestly, I had no idea about **Aliens.com**. It was my first time to hear about it. So, I immediately searched it on Google. Upon confirmation that it did exist, I replied to him and asked for more details about the job. I was quite ashamed because I sent a late response. More Details About The Job After exchanging some more messages the next day, he emailed me a document that contained the tasks and responsibilities for the job. In a nutshell, the website wanted a producer who will **write scripts for 3 to 5-minute crypto-related videos** for their YouTube and TikTok accounts. Exciting, isn’t it? At least for me! Because everything that was written on the job description mirrored my responsibilities in my current job as a Senior News Producer. **I felt that I was a perfect fit!** Except For This I may be a pro in writing and journalism, but I’m still a newbie in crypto. This is why **I’m having second thoughts about this opportunity**. Writing about crypto is like writing sports and business. As mentioned in my blog about how journalists work from home, writing about sports and business is not my thing. I can write about the pandemic, politicians, elections, entertainment, feature stories, interview questions, name them all. But sports and business news are really a big no no. https://read.cash/@remofm/behind-the-camera-how-journalists-work-from-home-7f869d60 Shall I Take It? To prove that I was really a good pick, I sent him some of my blogs from read.cash and some of the news stories that aired on our programs. Moments later, he called me and we talked more about the job offer. He said the following: He will arrange my interview with the general manager of Aliens.com. There are 5-6 candidates for the producer role. Candidates will have to write a script according to the topic that the GM will provide. The salary will be in USDT. I can work part-time. So, **nothing is really final yet** as of this time. I expect him to reach out to me again next week for the interview with the website’s general manager. After reading his unexpected message on LinkedIn up to our phone conversation, I have been contemplating whether to accept the job. Upon consultation with the people closest to my heart, I have decided to **give it a shot**! This is all new to me which makes it more exciting! However, **I’m still half-hearted**. I’m thinking to stay in my current job since the elections are approaching. I don’t want to brag but the company needs me now more than ever. I can’t leave my fellow soldiers on the battleground. How This Opportunity Came If you’re wondering how this all happened, that’s because I have an updated LinkedIn profile. Right before joining noise.cash and read.cash, **I fixed my LinkedIn profile** first. I added all the necessary career information, attached my latest CV, uploaded a new profile picture and cover photo, and followed some industry leaders. I also included in my bio that I am a “crypto beginner”. I have become more active in the employment website where I also share my read.cash articles and interact with users, mostly my officemates and former work colleagues. *So if you're looking for a job, I recommend updating your LinkedIn profile too!* Again, nothing is final yet about this crypto-related job offer. I will give you an update once everything is finalized. How about you? Have you got a similar job offer? Tell me about it in the comment section below! #career #job #opportunity

I Won A 1-Year Gym Membership Worth P30,000 ($600)! How’s your luck in joining raffles? Has your name been picked for the big prizes? I did! This was one of my biggest wins – no effort and sweat, just plain luck. If I talked about my problems and failures last week, this time, I will serve you my success stories. **Where Did I Win?** It was during our office Christmas party back in 2019. Hearts were pounding in the middle of an eerily silent party venue because we were down to the last two unnamed raffle prizes. Everyone was clueless about what the prizes were but we were aware that they’re something expensive. The jar where our names were picked was almost empty. I didn’t realize that there were only two names left. Until the host called me! “Remo!” he screamed. I was so shocked and everyone was clapping. The host then read the prize that I won. “A one-year membership at **Anytime Fitness**! This is worth **Php30,000 ($600)** which you can use in any branch you want!” he said. Everyone cheered. Some of them patted me at the back while others laughed because what an ironic prize it was for a fat guy. I was still 102kg at that time. It looked like destiny played a good game. “*Papayat ka na!* (You’ll finally get fit!)” they said. I didn’t know what to feel. I was glad to win one of the top prizes, but sad at the same time because it wasn’t what I expected. The night’s top prize that I missed? The latest **Samsung smartphone** which I dreamt to buy! **What Happened To My Prize?** I sold it. And yes, it had nothing to do with my 102kg to 76kg weight loss story. Just a day after I won the prize, some officemates reached out to me and asked if I was willing to sell it. The gym membership voucher was still unnamed and unsigned so it was still possible to pass it to another person. After consulting my friends, I decided to sell it and asked for offers. The highest that I got was **Php15,000 ($300)** – just half the original price of the gym membership voucher. Thinking that it was fair enough, **I decided to sell the raffle prize**. Easy money! Since I was planning to buy a smartphone, I used the money that I earned to purchase a new one. But not a Samsung device, just another brand that suits my budget and needs. **Did I Regret Anything?** Definitely, no! **It was the best decision** that I made in my whole life! That’s because: **I used my new smartphone as my gym.** I used it to watch follow-along workout videos, to research about nutrition and food preparations, and other fitness-related content. **2020 was a bad year for gyms.** They closed almost the entire year because of the pandemic. The person who bought my gym membership voucher had not used it ever. My smartphone still works until today and is **still as good as new.** **How Did I Win?** You know, raffles at office Christmas parties are a big deal here in the Philippines. You’ll be the star of the night if you win the most coveted prize. Don’t you agree? Winning was just pure luck. But here’s something that I did to attract that. Weeks before the main event, **I was already manifesting what prizes I want to win.** I attracted it by telling everything to the universe, murmuring a wish whenever I spotted 11:11 on the clock, praying to God, and writing everything in my planner. It might sound absurd but I did those. Yes, I have been doing those until now. It may sound crazy but it helps me to believe in myself that I can do everything, that **I can be limitless!** A one-year membership at an expensive gym might not be the raffle prize that I manifested. But it still turned out to be the new smartphone that I wanted. This was just one of the biggest prizes that I won at our office Christmas parties. In my next blog, I will tell you about my **BIGGEST PRIZES**. This time, it involves **cash, hotel accommodation**, and **awards**. Stay tuned for that! It’s your turn! Tell me about the biggest prize that you won at your company Christmas party. Leave the answer in the comment section below! #raffles #Christmas #lucky

I Don’t Want To Pretend Anymore, My Job Isn’t Cool As It Seems Do you know what hell week is? For students, it’s a week full of deadlines for school work, and exams. Hell week isn’t just for school because it also happens at work. I just experienced one from October 1 to 8 – **my worst week as a journalist this year.** This blog is far from what I wrote before – nothing about fitness, writing tips, or property investment. I just need to pour my heart out because what I feel becomes heavier in the chest. **I Lost My Self** It’s the busiest week for all Filipino journalists as we mark the beginning of the election season in the Philippines. Aspirants file their candidacies for next year’s elections on the first week of October 2021. From October 1 until 8, it was a warzone in the newsroom because a lot was happening. The problem was, **I was the only soldier in this war**. I was assigned to single-handedly produce and supervise our breaking news coverage for the filing of certificates of candidacy of Presidential and Vice Presidential aspirants. That’s on top of the two regular news programs that I handle every day. I wrote the scripts, coordinated with the news anchor, prepared downstream headlines, asked field correspondents to report, made prompt decisions, created scenario scripts because a lot of surprises were possible, and many other responsibilities. **I was doing a job meant for 3 people.** I had to do and endure all of those alone because we lacked manpower due to the pandemic. I just looked at the situation as a challenge that I needed to conquer and finish. After all, what I was doing was **for the Filipino people and our country’s future.** But I lost myself in the process. I had been disregarding this emotion because I needed to be strong. The team needed me to be. **Being weak wasn’t an option.** Until one day, I snapped and lost myself. **I didn’t know who I was anymore.** It was on Wednesday night while I was walking in a mall, I got emotional and teary-eyed because I felt that I wasn’t me. **I didn’t know who I was!** I was asking myself about my purpose in life, but no answer came. I was even clueless about where my feet were taking me inside the mall. **I was empty.** *Naubos ako ng trabaho ko.* When I got in my room, I cried because I couldn’t take it anymore. **I Went Back To My Old Self** I couldn’t blame anyone for what I was going through. **I chose to be here.** I needed to set aside my emotion to do my responsibility as a journalist. It was hard to put my job first more than my own well-being. But I had to. I needed to compromise. That’s why I ended up going back to my old self – **the fat guy who binges on food to deal with stress.** **I ate a lot.** I instantly gained 2kg within a week. That’s because every after my work shift, I rushed to different fast-food restaurants to eat processed and oily food. **I skipped the healthy meals that I prepared.** I preferred the salty, sweet, and unhealthy ones. On that same night when I cried, I was able to eat a pint of avocado ice cream after finishing a Korean meal in one sitting. After that, I ate 2 big bags of chips and a whole pack of cookies all by myself while watching a film. The next day, I went to a coffee shop to eat some fried food and 3 slices of different cakes. Before that, I already ate a large cup of soy snack. **Friday was the worst. I only ate one meal the entire day.** Last day filers were flooding the COMELEC filing venue on Friday. So, **I had to standby the entire day** for the back-to-back breaking news. The control room became my nest. I stayed inside while waiting for the aspirants. **I forgot about eating** because something might happen that I didn’t want to miss while I was at the pantry. I missed my breakfast, lunch, and meryenda. **I only had dinner that day.** I couldn’t help but pity myself because I was able to eat at 6 PM when the filing of candidacies officially closed. I couldn’t fight the urge to eat fast food again so I ordered 6 chicken nuggets, a big chicken fillet with rice, and a chocolate sundae. **My health was compromised.** I was completely lost in my nutrition. But not only that, **I wasn’t able to work out** too because I had no time. Tuesdays and Thursdays were supposed to be dedicated to jogging. But **I skipped it because I was too tired and stressed** to do it. Sometimes, I tried completing 10,000 steps before ending my day but **it was hard to achieve**. Instead of going out for a walk, I just went straight to my room, ordered some food or sleep. **I slept with my office clothes on.** I was also restless the entire week. **My sleeping pattern was ruined.** There were times when I just went straight to bed after eating and falling asleep without even noticing it. It was the call of nature that only woke me in the middle of the night. Whenever I opened my eyes, I was surprised to see that the same polo and pants I wore in the office were still on. **I forgot to change my clothes because I was just so tired.** I even missed washing my face and brushing and flossing my teeth! I also skipped preparing my breakfast and meryenda for the coming days. I had dishes left unwashed for 2 days because I was just so lazy to do my errands. Whenever I woke up in the middle of the night, I couldn’t find sleep anymore so I was awake until the wee hours until **it became a cycle**. If you noticed, I was able to publish some articles at 1AM or 2AM because that was the time that I was still awake and writing.  **I couldn’t use my noise.cash and read.cash accounts** My job didn’t stop after my shift. I had to continue monitoring the news online to prepare for tomorrow’s work. That’s why I couldn’t browse and engage in my noise.cash, read.cash, and other social media accounts the entire Friday. **I just didn’t have the time anymore.** Reading and commenting on some articles and posts meant hours of not sleeping. I’m the kind of person who doesn’t want to share rants on social media and even to people in my circle because **I don’t want to pass the negativity.** I don’t talk about what I feel because I fear that I am just letting the stress enter someone’s mind and body. But this is wrong. What I feel is valid and has to be expressed. I really need to improve in this aspect. **How I Dealt With It** This is truly my roughest week of the year. I hope this will not happen again. But I doubt it because the election season is just starting. At least, **I have learned some lessons** which I can apply if the **hell week** repeats. I also found my own ways on how to deal with it. **Watch a romantic film.** I had been reading and hearing the news all week. Watching a romantic film helped me **escape reality.** It had been a while since I saw one. I didn’t regret spending my 2 hours on that film. My mind was refreshed and relaxed when I finished it. **Just do nothing.** I spent my Friday night **being a couch potato**, doing nothing and not planning for the coming weekend. I just ate, watched the film, sleep, and did the same thing the next day. **Avoid Facebook and Twitter.** Mainstream social media sites are so toxic these days especially that the campaign season is approaching. You can only see people hating each other over a politician. That’s why avoiding it for some time **helps my mind to recover.** **Motivate yourself.** The media is playing a crucial role in shaping our country's future. Filipino voters need to know the facts about the politicians that they'll be going to vote for. We have the responsibility to assure that we are heading towards a bright future. This serves as my inspiration and motivation to finish the hard tasks with limited manpower. **I can't stop because I have countrymen to serve.** **Write.** Writing is **therapeutic for me.** I love hearing the keyboard clicking. This is also the other way that I can express myself especially the deepest of my emotions. That’s the reason why I’ve published this blog. I needn't earnings and eyes for this article because all I wanted to do is to express how I felt and forgo the stress. But if you read this from start to finish, thank you! It almost feels like I have found a real friend in this virtual world. Now, you know me better and my profession which is not cool as it seems. When was the last time that you had a hell week? Tell me in the comment section below!

Level Up Your Articles With These 5 More Writing Tips Now that you’ve already learned using bullets and proper punctuation marks, creating a strong title and lead, and knowing your niche from my previous blog, it’s time for your game to step up a notch! https://read.cash/@remofm/improve-your-articles-with-these-5-writing-tips-6b559cb6 Here’s a follow-up article on how to improve your content with some simple writing tips. This is a free workshop that I want to share with you because I want us to create a community of bloggers who write good quality content. Begin! 1. Add Photos Or Videos If Possible If you love to write about travel or do-it-yourself and step-by-step content, this one's for you! Put photographs and videos as much as possible instead of writing long chunky paragraphs and adjectives that no one wants to read. Pictures tell a thousand words and videos share a story. It will be easier for you to write if you include some media content. On the other hand, readers can easily understand your article if it’s visual. 2. Use Commonly Used Words If you’re a bookworm, you probably know thousands of words and perhaps hundreds of them are unfamiliar to many. Some writers tend to use these words with deep meaning to make good impression. But I hate to break it to you. Readers are not impressed with your highfalutin vocabulary. Drop it! It may sound intelligent but it’s boring to read. Just use commonly used terms. Try writing as if you’re just talking to a friend. You may also apply search engine optimization or SEO tools to find commonly used words. Using this method, your article may appear on the search results of read.cash or even Google whenever a user looks for a certain topic. 3. Use A Journal Writing a blog does not happen in just a snap. It includes planning, reading. and researching. If you’re not doing this, you better ask yourself if you’re making good quality content. To achieve a blog worth reading, you’re going to need a pen and paper first. For my part, I use a journal which I fondly call my “content notebook”. I jot down my ideas every day in this notebook. Before I turn on my laptop to write, I make bullet points first about the topic that I picked. This way, I can organize my thoughts and easily write my article especially the title and the lead paragraph. 4. End With CTA CTA means “call to action”. You usually hear this from YouTubers or social media influencers whenever they ask you to hit the like button, turn on the notification bell, or share their videos. Content creators always say this to gain engagement. More engagements mean more chances of penetrating the algorithm. This is also important in blogging. If you’ve noticed, I always leave a question at the end of my blogs because this way, I can engage and get feedback from you. This is important because that’s where we can get ideas on what to write next or how you can improve your work. 5. Promote Your Work Now that you’ve applied all the tips mentioned above and in my previous blog, ask yourself, who would read my article? This is where promoting your work comes to play. What we usually do now is posting it on noise.cash. But why not try promoting it to other social media sites? I have been doing this since I joined read.cash. I even promoted my read.cash account as my official blogging site. I’ve plugged it on my Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts which have wider reach. This helped a lot because family and friends can also read my content. In fact, my article about the invasion of illegal settlers in my property became my most read after I posted it on a Facebook group. https://read.cash/@remofm/illegal-settlers-invaded-my-property-how-did-i-deal-with-it-bdde2a0b Who Is This remofm? I bet some of you are raising your eyebrows now about my credibility. You’re probably thinking, “who is this remofm who’s acting like he’s a writing genius?” I’m not a writing genius. I’m far from one. But as mentioned in my previous articles, I’m a journalist who writes news for a living. Aside from that, I also completed the *Fundamentals of Digital Marketing Course* by *Google Digital Garage*. Under this online course, I was able to learn basic search engine optimization or SEO writing, use of different Google online tools, and many other digital skills. As mentioned in my lead, I'm giving free writing workshop because I want to build a community of writers who create good quality content and not just for the sake of earning, Wrapping Up My Free Workshop I hope these writing tips will help you in your read.cash journey. Always remember the number one rule in writing – no rules, no boundaries, no limits, just be yourself. Let’s keep going and continue creating good quality content. Do you have any writing tips in mind that you may want to add to my list? Tell me about it in the comment section below.

I Invested ₱2,000 ($40) In Crypto As A Newbie, Here’s How Much I Earned As a beginner in the cryptoverse, I’m still testing the waters when it comes to investment. When the crypto market was dipping in September, I took the chance to use some of my savings to try trading. Fortunately, I was able to earn! And it wasn’t bad for a newbie like me. *Please be patient with my terminologies, I'm still studying how to write about crypto.* Red Lines On September 24 at around 6 PM, I was just randomly looking at my Bitcoin.com wallet when I noticed the big drop in BCH price. So, I immediately checked coinmarketcap.com. Everything was in red! Some were even lower than the previous weeks. I rushed to transfer **₱2,000 ($40)** to my coins.ph account. This came from my savings bank account because I decided not to touch my earnings from noise.cash and read.cash since I want to join the #Club1BCH. I bought 4 cryptocoins available on the local app – Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Ripple – for **₱500 ($10)** each. That time, BTC dropped to nearly $39,000, ETH was at $2,860, BCH dipped to $487, and XRP hit $0.92. It was the perfect time to put some of my savings! Green Lines Then October came. The cryptomarket was slowly recovering. I was checking the prices from time to time to see if it's time to sell. Until it hit my goal price on October 9. I was able to earn **20%** from two cryptocoins - BTC and ETH! My **₱500 ($10)** investment from each coin became **₱600 ($12)** in 15 days. I sent my **₱100 ($2)** profit from each coin to my peso wallet. I still left my **₱500 ($10)** investment to continue earning. And just this October 10, BCH also joined the green club. I was also able to gain **20%** profit. Another **₱100 ($2)** profit! As for XRP, I will still have to wait for it to hit my intended price before selling. How Much Did I Earn? All in all, I was able to earn **₱300 ($6)** in 16 days! As a first-timer, I can’t believe it! I made profit by putting my money in crypto and not in my bank savings account. And this is just a trial. Since I saw good results, I think I will pour in some more money (of course that I can lose) while doubling my effort to research. I still need to study more especially about smartBCH, NFT, and staking which all sound new and strange to me. Have you gained profit during last month’s dip? Tell me about it in the comment section! #beginner #newbie #trading

"Yuck, Lechon!": 5 Favorite Pinoy Dishes That I Don't Eat The Philippines is home to world-renowned dishes. With recipes as old as history, these delicacies define our nationality. But do you ever dislike some of these favorite Pinoy cuisines? I do! This is not about my fitness journey. Allergies, religion, or any other health concerns have nothing to do with this list. It's really just a matter of preference. What are the Filipino dishes that I don't eat? 5. *Lechon* (Roasted Pig) Christmas, New Year's Eve feasts, fiestas, and birthday parties will always have this as a centerpiece. A typical Pinoy celebration wouldn't be complete without *lechon* on the table. Guests will surely come rushing for the crispy skin more than the juicy meat. But not me. I don't eat *lechon* because: The meat is too chewy and almost comparable to bubble gum. I don't like the smell of it. I can't stand to see a whole pig lying on its stomach on top of the table. 4. *Diniguan* (Blood Stew) They say it's the perfect partner for *puto* or rice cake. But not for me. You would probably think that I'm a member of the Filipino religious sect *Iglesia ni Cristo* for including *dinuguan* in this list. The group prohibits eating animal blood because it said it is dirty. But I'm not an INC member. I just didn't like how it tasted when I once tried it. I don't eat *dinuguan* because: Sorry for the lack of a better term but it disgusts me to think of eating pig blood. I'm not fond of eating black food. 3. Pork *Sisig* This Filipino dish is best served on a sizzling hot plate topped with raw egg. Originating from Pampanga, *sisig* is mainly made of chopped pig face, ears, and tongue. It is drizzled with mayonnaise and sprinkled with hot peppers. It is usually served in bars paired with beers - a perfect match for a long drinking session. However, I don't eat *sisig* because: I can't stand eating pig face, ears, and tongue because it's gummy It's too fatty and oily I'm not a fan of sizzling hot food 2. *Isaw* (Barbeque Pork Intestines) Isaw is just one of the common grilled street food in the Philippines. It's a hit because it's cheap. You can buy it along with *betamax, helmet, adidas, balun-balunan,* *iwi,* and many more. But I don't dare eat one even if it's free! I don't eat *isaw* because: I'm not a fan of grilled animal innards. I have this connotation that they're dirty even if they're washed and cooked. For me, why would you settle for innards or blood if you can eat the meat? 1. *Balut* (Boiled Fertilized Duck Egg) If there's one exotic Filipino food that everyone in the world knows, it must be *balut*. I've seen countless videos of foreigners eating *balut* and giving it a thumbs up. It was even included in one of the episodes of the reality game show *"Fear Factor"*. They say you're not a Filipino if you haven't tried one. But I beg to disagree. I'm pretty sure I'm 100% pure Filipino even if I haven't eaten *balut* once. I can eat *penoy* all not but its counterpart *balut*. I don't eat *balut* because: I can't stand its smell Again, apologies for the lack of a better term, but it looks disgusting especially if you see the fertilized duck looking at you, eye-to-eye. Wrapping Up Disliking these dishes boils down to one reason - *ang arte ko kasi.* I'm choosy and unadventurous when it comes to food. These are just 5 of the favorite Pinoy dishes that I don't eat. Aside from them, I also don't eat *bulalo*, *crispy pata*, *tahong*, *kare-kare*, and many more. You're probably thinking now that I have a poor taste or sad childhood or even parents who don't know how to cook. But no, it's really just me. Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing our proudly Pinoy dishes. I enjoy a lot of Filipino cuisines, too, such as *adobo, sinigang, ginataang langka, biko, sapin-sapin,* and anything that my Mommy and Daddy cook. It's just a matter of preference. Now it's your turn! Do you have any Filipino food dislikes? Tell me about it in the comment section below. #pinoy #filipino #food

I Gained 2kg In 1 Month: 5 Problems In My Fitness Journey Losing 25kg in less than two years is already a big achievement for me. I’m glad to inspire a lot of people with my weight loss story. But little does everyone know, I’ve been experiencing problems lately. If you plan to get fit, you may encounter the same troubles. This is how you can deal with it. 1. Loose Clothes This is my main problem after losing some weight. I may feel good on the inside, but I don’t look good on the outside because of the baggy shirts and pants. There is no other way to solve it but to spend thousands of pesos on new clothes. Last year, I spent Php7,000 ($137) to buy some new shirts, shorts, and pants. I needed more budget because I had to buy my undies, socks, and sleepwear. So, what happened to my XL-sized shirts and 40-inch pants? I donated them all to our maintenance personnel in the office. 2. Cooking And Meal Prepping If I’m good at writing, cooking is the opposite. This is what I hate the most in my fitness journey. I find it very hard to chop, season, cook and prepare my own meals. Before, I had no idea how to buy chicken breast, fish, vegetables, and other fresh produce in the market. Since nutrition is key in weight loss, I had no choice but to learn to do it all. I researched a lot about cooking and meal prepping. My air fryer was also helpful! If you really have no time cooking, you can subscribe to meal subscription plans that you can find online. I subscribed to one before, but it didn’t last long. I’ll tell you why in the next blog. 3. “You Don’t Eat Rice?” And Other Wrong Assumptions Curious people who noticed my transformation asked a lot of questions. Among them, some wrong assumptions like *“Ang payat mo ahh, may sakit ka ba?* (You lost weight, are you sick?)*”*, *“Edi hindi ka kumakain ng kanin?* (So you stopped eating rice?)*”*, and the worst of all *“Nag-drugs ka ba?* (Have you been taking illegal drugs?)*”*. I kept hearing these and sometimes I kinda got tired of answering them. Since I wanted to correct the wrong assumptions, and I didn’t want them to do the wrong thing such as not eating rice, I explained to them that I’d been doing calorie deficit and home workouts. 4. No One Notices My Progress It took months before people asked me the wrong assumptions. Not in 2 months or even 6, but in over a year! That’s how long it took before people saw my progress. The problem here was it demotivated me when people didn’t notice all my hard work. It felt like no one appreciated what I had been doing. The real problem was me because I was waiting for what people think and see. But, instead of caring, I just continued with my journey. I hid and didn’t tell anyone until someone noticed. Progress is slow but what’s important is you keep going. 5.  Losing My Drive Honestly, almost two years in my fitness journey, sometimes I feel like stopping. I’m overwhelmed by all the praises that I hear and the people’s expectations about me. In the past months, I had cheat weeks. That's when I ate a whole pack of chips, biscuits, chocolates, or cookies all by myself in one sitting every single day instead o just doing it only on Saturdays. I just made excuses by calling it stress-eating after a long stressful day at work. But it was unhealthy. So far, I gained 2kg in just a month! I reached 76kg last September 6. And just this morning of October 4, I'm at 78kg. I'm still a work in progress. I’m strengthening my willpower to fight off the evil that's stopping my journey. There's Always A Solution Whenever I encounter these problems, I tell myself my purpose since day 1- not to have a single maintenance medicine when I grow old and live longer than the average person. Getting fit isn’t only a physical battle, it’s also a mental and emotional one. It’s hard in the beginning but it’s even harder towards the end. Let's just stay consistent to achieve our goal. Have you encountered these same problems? Tell me how you deal with them in the comment section below! #fitness #health #lifestyle #caloriedeficit #weightloss #journey

Improve Your Articles With These 5 Writing Tips I may be a newbie to the cryptoverse, but I’m already a pro in writing. I do it every single day as a journalist for the past 7 years. I’ve come up with this blog because I’ve seen a lot of articles that, I hate to say this, need a complete overhaul. I hope this blog can help you. But brace yourself because I’ve written these 5 tips quite frankly. 1. Know Your Niche What is "niche"? That simply means what you love to talk or write about. In my case, it’s about fitness, foreclosed property investment, and my life as a journalist. It’s important to know your niche because that’s how you’ll going to last long in your writing journey. If you’re just forcing yourself to write something, probably you’ll end up stopping very soon. I even encountered some users writing about *“I don’t know what to write so I wrote this and that blah blah blah”*. It feels like these people are just writing for the sake of consistency to earn big. But that’s not how it supposed to work. If you have nothing to write, then don’t write. Don’t waste your time. Just rest and recharge because you’re probably exhausted from writing. New ideas sometimes come when you’re taking some time off. 2. Start Strong, Don't Bury The Gist Always remember, the title and the first three lines of your article are the most important. That’s when you can grab the attention of readers. If you start with *“Good morning my fellow users blah blah blah”*, no one’s going to read your 500-word blog. That’s because you’re writing what everyone else is writing – some kind of repetitive angles and greetings. Just go straight to the point. Begin with a unique title that users don’t expect to read when they open their notification panel or browse their feed. Sometimes, clickbaits work. Your title and first three sentences should give users an overview of what they’re about to read. 3. AvOiD wRiTinG LiKe tHis.,,,.. In my country, it's called *"jejemon"*. Mixing big and small letters followed by improperly used punctuation marks are eyesores. Readers wouldn’t want to see that. Write decently that is pleasing to the eyes especially if you have a long article. Meantime, if you are struggling with subject-verb agreement, it’s totally fine! It’s okay to get it wrong especially if English is not your first language. Surely, there will be judging eyes. But as long as readers can understand the message, you’re okay. However, if you want to improve, watch some writing tutorials online or use browser plug-ins and apps that can help you. I personally use **Grammarly** when writing my blogs. It helps me to check my grammar and spelling before posting. 4. Use Subheadings, Do Bullets Or Lists Tell me, when was the last time you completed reading a 500-word article from start to finish without skipping any paragraph? Probably, you also scanned this blog when you opened it and missed this sentence. It’s normal because the attention span of people doesn’t last long with so many distractions and tasks to finish. Honestly, a 500-word article is too long that’s why you need to break it down. I also personally saw a lot of blogs here that were overwhelming to read. Imagine your screen filled with so many words. I ended up closing the tab for those articles without finishing it. Subheadings or the smaller titles in between your blog can help. You can also do bullet points or lists. This way, you can let readers scan the article easily. 5. Be Yourself Everything listed above is nothing because at the end of the day, writing a blog has no rules, no boundaries, and no limits. I’m afraid to say this but yes, you just wasted your time reading the first 4. What really matters is yourself and your ideas. Just express who you are and keep going! But I hope the first four on the list will help you to keep writing good quality and original content on read.cash. I’m not discouraging or intimidating you. I’m here to help just like how I helped @Review before on how to improve his content, and how I answered the call of @reEplayZ to come up with this kind of blog. Don’t get me wrong, I, myself is a work in progress. I’m as imperfect as you. I’m not spared from committing sentence construction and typographical errors. But what matters is we continue improving. I am also far from being an expert. You know, I don't earn big just yet both here and on noise.cash so I probably need to do more with my posts. I just wrote these writing tips based on my own experience as a journalist who was trained to write and produce content, and who was also tasked to train news writers joining our broadcast media company. What I want to happen is we come up with blogs that we can proudly share here and beyond. Check out my other blogs. In case you’ll find errors, let me know in the comment section below. 102kg To 65kg: Here’s What I Eat In A Day To Lose Weight Proper nutrition is more important than working out in getting fit. Contrary to popular belief, sweating doesn’t mean you’re losing some extra pounds. But eating the right amount of food does. In this article, I will tell you about what I eat in a day to achieve a healthier body. *In case you missed it, I’m the guy who lost 25kg of body weight in almost two years. Read my story* *here*. https://read.cash/@remofm/102kg-to-77kg-how-i-lost-25kg-body-weight-6d0c897b High-Protein And High-Fiber Before we get started, I want to let you know that I eat up to 1,800 calories per day. It's my daily calorie requirement that helps me to reach my ideal weight of 65kg. I’m currently at 76kg - still 11kg away from my goal. If you want to know your own daily calorie requirement, you can find it at the end of this blog High-protein and high-fiber food are always on my plate because they are more filling thus make you less hungry throughout the day. Breakfast 35g milk - 170 calories 33g oats - 156 calories 2 large boiled eggs - 124 calories 1 medium apple - 95 calories 1-liter water - 0 calories TOTAL - 545 calories This is my go-to morning meal because it’s easy to prepare. You will only have to add hot water then start digging in! To make my oatmeal less boring, I mix with it my high-protein milk. I usually eat it together with my apple. Then my boiled eggs come next. Unlike many people around the world, drinking coffee or tea is not my thing. I may sound weird but I don’t start my day with caffeine. That’s because my mom didn’t let me drink coffee when I was growing up. She feared that it may cause palpitation. Instead, I drink warm water to keep my mind and body active. Lunch 200g chicken breast – 330 calories 100g potatoes – 77 calories 1 corn – 90 calories 1-liter water - 0 calories Total: 497 calories Chicken breast is the OG food of fitness enthusiasts and bodybuilders. Aside from its high-protein content, it is also versatile! You can do anything with chicken breast. But since I don’t know how to cook, I just season it with salt and pepper and toss it in the air fryer. Most of the time, it's bland. But tomato ketchup solves the problem. I eat my air-fried chicken breast along with corn and potatoes which are good sources of carbohydrates and fiber. Do still eat rice? Find out in my dinner. Afternoon Snack (Meryenda) 4 slices (92g) of wheat bread – 260 calories 30g of peanut butter – 190 calories 1-liter water - 0 calories Total: 450 calories Aside from rice, the Philippines is also a bread-eating nation. With so many bakeries in every corner of the streets, bread becomes the most favorite Filipino meryenda. And it’s wheat bread with peanut butter for me! Two pairs are surely filling. It’s also a perfect meal before an intense workout. I usually eat it before I jog in the evening. Dinner 56g canned tuna – 120 calories 100g potatoes – 77 calories 1 corn – 90 calories 1-liter water - 0 calories Total: 287 calories I still eat a high-protein and high-fiber meal before I end my day. That’s because I want my body to continue to grow while I’m resting and sleeping. It’s almost the same with my lunch, I just replaced chicken breast with canned tuna. Sometimes, its tofu which I also season with salt and pepper and toss in the air fryer. Be careful with eating canned fish. Aside from protein, it is also rich in sodium. So, you need to drink a lot of water to wash away the extra salt. Wait, what? Still no rice for dinner? Yes. Because I prefer not to eat it on a daily basis. But I still have at least one to two cups every weekend. Sometimes I buy it in a nearby karinderya on weekdays whenever I crave it. Wrapping up from breakfast to dinner, my total calories are 1,779. No Fast-Food? Don’t get me wrong, I still eat oily, fatty, and processed food that I order from fast-food restaurants especially if I feel tired of cooking, chopping, and packing my food. Always remember that proper nutrition is flexible. You don’t need to stop eating any food to shed those extra pounds. Also, having a meal plan can help you achieve your goal weight. In my case, I have decided to stick with the food listed above because they’re the most sustainable for me. But it wasn’t easy to find out what to eat. I did a lot of research about food preparation and nutrition before I ended up with what's on my list. It was trial and error until I found the food that suits my lifestyle. It really depends on you. As someone who lives alone without knowledge on how to cook, what I eat may not be good for you if you’re a naturally-born chef or if you’re living with your family and kids. Knowing your food is key in losing weight. You will need to learn how to read nutrition facts which I discussed in my previous blog. https://read.cash/@remofm/check-the-label-mommy-how-to-read-nutrition-facts-47e0c6ea You will also have to identify your daily calorie requirement to know your food limit. You can check out online calorie calculators that can compute that for you. Consulting a nutritionist-dietician is your best option. https://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html Would you like to try my go-to meals? If not, what do you usually eat? Tell me in the comment section below. #fitness #mealprep #breakfast #lunch #snack #dinner #healthy #lifestyle #calories

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! THIS IS MY MOST READ ARTICLE SO FAR. I'm surprised to see that my latest blog has garnered 120 views for the past two days only! It is now the most read on my profile. But there are no comments so far. Haha. What's the secret behind this? I posted the link of this blog on a Facebook group. Members of this group were also buyers of a foreclosed property from Pag-IBIG. I guess they don't have their own read.cash account so they just read the blog without leaving a comment. But I got positive reviews on the comment section of that Facebook group. In case you haven't read it, this latest blog is about my first visit in the property that I bought in the province last Saturday, September 25. I was surprised when I arrived because illegal settlers invaded my house. Visit the link for the full story: https://read.cash/@remofm/illegal-settlers-invaded-my-property-how-did-i-deal-with-it-8a44dc52 Good morning, everyone! Have a nice week ahead!

Illegal Settlers Invaded My Property! How Did I Deal With It? After weeks of delays because of the seemingly never-ending lockdown, finally, I was able to visit the property that I bought in the province of Cavite. But upon arrival, my excitement turned into a nightmare. I was shocked by what I saw. A family of five was settling in my property as if they own it. This is a story of my encounter with them. *In case you missed it, I’m the guy who has been sharing pieces of advice about buying a foreclosed property in the housing agency Pag-IBIG. I was able to buy my own house at the age of 27. You can read my previous blogs* here *and* here. https://read.cash/@remofm/i-bought-my-own-house-at-27-heres-how-i-did-it-21be6c23 https://read.cash/@remofm/pro-tips-how-to-buy-a-pag-ibig-foreclosed-property-last-part-ab376c61 Illegal Settlers Welcomed Me It was the morning of September 25th when I visited my property. My heart was filled with excitement the moment I woke up until I took the bus. It will be my first time to open my property and tour around! But as I walked inside the subdivision, I felt the cold air on my skin, as if telling me that something wrong was going to happen. Anxiety crawled all over my body when I saw the door wide open! I was shocked to see illegal settlers living on my property. Two young children, boy and girl, were having a normal Saturday morning inside while watching cartoons on TV. A motorcycle was parked outside. Some undies were also hanged on the doorway. I didn’t believe it at first. I thought that I might be at the wrong address. I hoped so. But no. I double-checked the house number in my keys and the signage beside the door and both proved that the property was really mine. I couldn’t believe it. I visited that house in June right before I joined the public bidding. It was empty and locked. It was even marked as UNOCCUPIED by Pag-IBIG. Three months later, illegal settlers welcomed me in my own property. I Didn’t Expect What Happened Next I was clueless about what to do. There were only two young children to talk to. I approached the girl and politely asked for their mother. It felt awkward to say “excuse me” and “I’m sorry for bothering you” to the occupants of my own property. The girl said that their parents went to work. She instead called their big sister who was upstairs. I talked to the big sister who, I think, was in her teenage years. At first, I didn’t know what to say. I was confused! Horrible thoughts ran in my head. How am I supposed to introduce myself as the owner of the property? What if they panic and attack me? Am I ready for a word war? What if they have papers proving that they are the eligible owners? But then, I began by confirming to her the house number. And in a very soft voice, I told the big sister that I am the owner of the property. I asked again if I can speak to their parents. She immediately told her younger sister to call their father who is a tricycle driver. While waiting, the big sister got me a chair. A few minutes later, the little girl came back and told us that their father was not around. During that time, I felt that their big sister was as shocked and confused as me. I told her to calm down and assured her that I am not kicking them out. She tried contacting her mother through video call. Luckily, she answered. You Will Not Expect What Happened Next “*Ma, may naghahanap sa inyo ni Papa. ‘Yung may-ari ng bahay”* she told her mom in a cracking voice. “*Pakausap nga”* Her mom replied. It was at that moment when I had the courage to introduce myself properly. I told their mother that I already bought the house and I was shocked at what I saw when I arrived. She kept apologizing for what happened. “*Pasensya na po kayo, Sir, kung tinirhan namin ang bahay n’yo. Gipit lang po talaga kami”* she told me humbly over the phone. I was relieved to know that the illegal settlers on my property were polite and kind people. I felt that they’re not up for a word war. “*Pandemic po kasi tapos naggagamot pa po ‘yung asawa ko. Kung pwede po, pagbigyan n’yo kami hanggang October 30”* she asked me. But then I looked at her kids. Two were still young and I was sure that the big sister is still studying. At a quick glance, I can also see that nothing was really changed in my property. The family didn’t look like they’re going to stay for long. “*Ha? Bakit po hanggang October? Dito na rin po kayo mag-Pasko. Hanggang December na po kayo mag-stay.”* I told her. I can’t stand to see her children suffering especially during these trying times. Since I am not going to do anything on my property within the year, I decided to let them stay. “*Hanggang January 30 na lang po kaya para dito na rin po kayo mag-Bagong Taon?”* I told her excitedly. The mother started to cry. I felt that it was tears of joy even when we’re just talking via video call. “*Thank you, Sir. Hindi ko alam na may tao pa pong katulad ninyo ngayon. Maswerte kami”* she told me while crying. And then she went on by sharing with me what their life was like living in empty properties. She said that the pandemic worsened their situation. I almost cried when I heard her story. It’s painful to hear it from kind and hardworking people. But the least that I could do was to let them stay on my property and give them time to find their own. “*’Wag na po kayo mag-alala. Naiintindihan ko po ang sitwasyon ninyo. Balik na po kayo sa trabaho, baka nakakaabala na po ako”* I said while waving goodbye to her. She thanked me again and asked for my name and contact number which I gave to her eldest daughter. She immediately texted me and asked to save my number. I Had A Little Tour Inside My Property After our brief video call, I went inside my property and toured around. I asked the big sister to accompany me. Honestly, it was messy inside. The big sister kept apologizing and told me that she was sweeping the floor when I arrived. Just when I was leaving, their father arrived. I met him on the doorstep. I told him that I already spoke to his wife and I decided to let them stay until January 30. He also thanked me and asked for my name. He also assured me that they will take care of my property during their stay. Be A Blessing To Others After our short conversation, I bid goodbye to the family. They were all smiles while waving at me. The father even offered me a free ride to the national highway. As I walked away from my property, I realized that our small acts of kindness can change a life of many, in this case, of a family. The anxiety that I felt while walking towards my property turned into happiness. The illegal settlers who welcomed me became newfound friends. This experience reminded me that we can truly become a blessing to others.

"Pres. Robredo": My 5 Mistakes On Nat’l TV That Scared The S**t Out Of Me *Just to be clear, this is not a political post. Read through to know what it is about.* Let’s face it, mistakes are inevitable especially when you’re a newbie in a company. In my 7 years in the broadcast media industry, I’ve committed so many faults along the way. Some of them almost got me fired! Here are the top 5. 1. I Designated Vice President Leni Robredo as the 14th Philippine President 5 years ago, during the oath-taking ceremony of President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo in June 30, 2016, I was assigned to type the **downstream** during our rolling breaking news coverage. Just so we're on the same page, here's a crash course on broadcast journalism. When watching a live news program, can you notice the text on the lower part of the screen? That's called the **downstream**. That's where we write the **headline** or the **summary of the news story** so viewers can easily catch what it's all about. It changes depending on the topic. Now, going back to my story. During the oath-taking of Duterte and Robredo, a lot was happening in the control room. Everyone was talking loudly. It was chaotic! Since the President and the Vice President took their oath in two different locations, we had to interchange their live shots in the TV screen. As the writer assigned for the **downstream***,* I had to write as fast as I could whenever their showing the President or the Vice President. The **downstream** for Duterte was "DUTERTE IS 16TH PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES". I was right when I wrote it. But when they shifted to Robredo, I only changed the name and the number. What was shown on live TV was "ROBREDO IS 14TH PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES". I didn't immediately notice the mistake. It was there for 8 seconds! Even the other people in the control room had no idea. So I just pretended that it didn't happen. I just went on writing the **downstream** for the rest of the coverage. I thought that I was off the hook. Until it went viral online! Yes, you had probably seen it already. Of course, netizens went berserk. They posted it on social media and called us out for being "biased". The complaints reached our bosses. It was an honest mistake for my part. I didn't intend to call the VP our President. So the next day, the executive producer talked to me about my fault. It was a calm conversation. She only reminded me to be careful next time. Luckily, I didn't get fired. 2. I Misspelled A Downstream Right After We Broke The News That Pia Wurtzbach Won Miss Universe 2015 It wasn't only Steve Harvey who made a blunder in December 21, 2015. I was too. While the entire Philippines celebrated our third Miss Universe crown, I was in the corner of our office desk pitying my self for a typographical error on the **downstream.** Right before Pia Wurtzbach was announced the winner, a fellow writer and I were preparing for our hourly news update. We had to air two stories - Pia's Miss Universe journey, and the holiday rush in bus terminals since Christmas was approaching. I was assigned to write about the holiday rush. I was just about to finish my script when Pia won the crown. I was rushing to write because we had to break the news immediately. So we aired earlier than usual. I had no chance to double check my script and **downstream**. Breaking the news about Pia's win went smoothly. But when my holiday rush story aired, it felt like I lost the universe. The downstream was "ASSENGERS HEADING TO PROVINCES FLOCK TO BUS TERMINALS". I misspelled the word *PASSENGERS*! This time, the company president talked to me. Guess what? She also reminded me to be careful next time especially that the Philippines was celebrating. 3. I Credited The Wrong Person In An Exclusive Video When the pandemic hit, everyone was shocked. Even our company didn't know what to do because we have no videos of the newly discovered coronavirus. It was a challenge for us to source for video materials. Until our very own company president found one from a university in the U.S. It was a video illustration about how the coronavirus can spread in an enclosed space. It was shared to us exclusively after our president spoke to some university officials. They granted us permission to air it on our shows under one condition, embed the name of the university on the video. So I instructed our associate producer, who's responsible for all the material we broadcast on air, to download the video and put proper credit. To cut the story short, after we aired the show, I received an email from the company president. She asked me what happened to the courtesy. I didn't immediately understand what she meant until I saw the screenshot of the video. It was credited to a wrong person! She also said that the university was disappointed and wanted us to correct it immediately. Again, it was my fault. My instructions to the show's associate producer were not clear and I didn't preview the material before we aired it. I just explained and apologized to the company president what happened which she immediately accepted. 4. I Misunderstood The WPS Moratorium Of Duterte As mentioned in my article about how journalists work from home, I hated writing about sports, business, and legal issues. https://read.cash/@remofm/behind-the-camera-how-journalists-work-from-home-7f869d60 One of them was about this moratorium of President Duterte on the oil exploration in the West Philippine Sea. I couldn't clearly remember what it was all about but it had something to do with the lifting of the ban on exploration in the contested territories in South China Sea. To make it more complicated, there were two moratoriums issued by two different presidents. One was by President Duterte while the other one was under the administration of the late President Noynoy Aquino. I wasn't privy about this issue. When I wrote it, I based it on the moratorium by President Aquino which was entirely wrong! We aired the news story without knowing that it was erroneous. On the same day, the head copy editor messaged me. I was clueless when I saw her name on my phone because she rarely reached out to me. Her message sent chills all over my body. She wanted me to explain what happened and why we aired a wrong story. Right that moment, I felt that I was going to get fired! I was preparing already to pack my office stuff and leave. So I tried to explain what happened. I admitted that I didn't know what the story was all about and I didn't seek guidance from senior members of the company. Lucky me, the head copy editor forgave me! She said that I was a victim of an old system that needs improvement. She also pointed out that at least, no one complained about the erroneous story. 5. I Wrote A Story That Disappointed The DSWD Secretary This was my biggest mistake on national TV because a member of the Cabinet of President Duterte demanded a public apology from our company. It was a report about Social Welfare Secretary Rolando Bautista missing an important event for his department. I wrote that he was a "no show". We aired it upon approval of the show's executive producers and copy editors. But the good secretary didn't like how I wrote the script. His office emailed us and pointed out that he was not a "no show" in the event and he only came late. He demanded for a public apology. This time, it wasn't entirely my fault because the script was approved by the executive producer and copy editor. The story was also based on the advisory sent by our reporter on the ground. What happened to the public apology to Secretary Bautista? It never happened. I didn't know why. Wrapping Up These are just 5 of the countless mistakes that I make everyday. A journalist is prone to typographical errors, and sometimes, mistakes in decisions. But despite all that, especially all the major blunders I've committed, I've already forgiven my self. I have moved on and learned my lesson. I'm also lucky to have kind, understanding, and forgiving bosses who appreciate all the best in me instead of the worst. How about you? Tell me about the major mistakes that you did in your job and what you've learned from it. Send a comment below! #journalist #news #failures #mistakes #career

5 Simple Tips To Start Your Fitness Journey For people who have always been fat, it’s not easy to shed the extra pounds. You’re probably clueless on how to start. I also felt the same way before when I was still a beginner. But, worry no more! Here are 5 ways to kickstart your fitness journey. Important reminder: Don’t take this as a piece of professional advice, I’m only writing based on my own experience after I personally lost 26kg of body weight. You may read my blog about my fitness journey here. https://read.cash/@remofm/102kg-to-77kg-how-i-lost-25kg-body-weight-15f647a6 Let’s begin! 1. Hide Yes, you read that right. Hide! Don’t let the judging eyes see you. When I started my fitness journey, I never told anyone – not my family, friends, and officemates. I started quietly. Admit it, people are quick to judge when you tell them that you’re trying to get fit. Even your family will immediately doubt you. Some will laugh and discourage you because they believe that you’re hopeless. These comments may affect you and weaken your willpower to continue. ***Remember, you are on your own in this battle. You are your greatest enemy. People’s judgment is the weapon. But you’re stronger than you think. Claim victory!*** 2. Find And Secure Your Own Space Before starting, ask yourself these questions: Where am I going to exercise? Is my room big enough for jumping jacks? Are people going to see me while doing push-ups and squats? Having your personal space is key to a sustainable and successful fitness journey. Based on my own experience, I was able to focus on my health when I had my own room in 2019. I could hide inside while I looked ugly and dumb doing workout routines like push-ups and squats. ***Think of your own space as your arsenal in your battle against the extra pounds. This is where you will strengthen your mind and body into a weapon that will defeat the doubtful people and their judging eyes.*** 3. Don’t Just Start, Do Your Own Research First Some fat people who lost weight fast eventually gained the extra pounds back because of a lack of research. That’s because they believed in fad diets and slimming products that promised instantaneous results. But achieving a healthy body doesn’t work that way. Getting fit is a lifestyle and not only a diet. And just like in the cryptoverse, doing your own research will lead to success. There are lots of available information and resources about fitness on the internet. YouTube and Facebook groups are your best friends! Just be sure to follow, hear, and read credible information. ***Think of DYORing as your map in strategizing for a battle. Knowing the ins and outs will surely result in victory.*** 4. Watch Motivational Videos You probably envy people who can freely walk on the beach wearing only their bikinis and trunks, and flaunting their toned abs, arms, and legs. But instead of just looking, make them as your motivation instead. This will help you to build a goal for your body. There are countless motivational videos online and I think I’ve already seen every single one of them. Have you heard of the TV shows *‘PinoyMD’* and *‘Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho’*? They feature a lot of fitness stories of real people who succeeded in their journey. I’m telling you, they’re all inspiring. ***Think of them as your soldiers helping you prepare for the battle. Learn from them and use the knowledge to defeat the hurtful comments.*** 5. Take Progress Pictures Aside from the weighing scale, we can also see the changes in our bodies through the mirror. But you can’t instantly see the progress. I’m telling you, the first two months are the hardest because you could hardly notice any changes. People around you will not appreciate your efforts. But this shouldn’t stop you in your journey. Continue taking photos every week and compare them to your previous pictures. With consistency, proper diet, exercise, and a strong mind, little by little, you will see progress! ***Think of your progress pictures as your armor that can shield you from the judging eyes of the enemies.*** Wrapping Up The 5 Simple Tips Getting into a fitness journey is not easy. There will be doubts and discouragements, but you are your own hero in this battle. It’s important to start right to avoid mistakes in the process. If you've been thinking of losing weight, this is your sign. Start now! Would you start a healthy lifestyle after reading these simple tips? Tell me in the comment section below! #fitness #fit #calories #healthy #lifestyle

Laptop At Bag Ko, Tinangay Ng Kawatan: Paano Ako Na-Budol-Budol Gang? Dahil sa karanasan ‘to, marami akong natutunan. **Una, maging alerto at street smart**. #scam #budol #life #lesson

#YOURTHOUGHTS ON THE 'QUESTIONS FOR HONOR STUDENTS' ARTICLES? I've been seeing a lot of these articles on my read feed. I'm sure you also did because they're sprouting like mushrooms. I've read some of them. And hmm... I'm almost convinced to write my own. Pero kasi... There's something holding me back. I write mainly about my life as a journalist, my foreclosed property investment, and my fitness journey. But then, I'll shift to questions for honor students? I want to know #yourthoughts on this topic. What do you think? Honest answers please. #RealTalk tayo rito. Haha.

"Check The Label, Mommy!" How To Read Nutrition Facts? In the Philippines, we often hear the tagline *"Check the label, Mommy"* from a TV commercial of a popular milk brand. The *“label”* that the advertisement is referring to is the **nutrition facts** of the product. But why is this important? Before we start, here’s an important reminder: Don’t take this as a piece of professional advice. I’m not a nutritionist-dietician nor a fitness coach. I only share what I learned from watching countless fitness videos online. Let’s get it on! Nutrition Facts 101 From bread to milk to chocolates and even sweet beverages, every food item in the grocery store contains a detailed table of the nutrients that you can get from eating them. You can usually see it at the side or back of the packaging. But for many, it’s just numbers and letters that don’t make sense. We can’t blame people who are ignorant of nutrition facts because no one teaches us about it, not even in schools. This leads to malnourishment aside from the lack of nutritious food. We sure know about *“Go, Grow, and Glow”* food that our grade school teachers have taught us. But reading nutrition facts is another thing. It may look intimidating and confusing, but nutrition facts are easy to read. Let me guide you. What’s On The Nutrition Facts Let’s use this pack of my favorite mixed nuts as an example. Since we’re all beginners, we will only focus on 6 simple things on the table. These are the **serving per container**, **serving size**, **calories**, and the three macronutrients: **fat**, **carbohydrates**, and my personal favorite, **protein**. 1. Serving Per Container It refers to the number of servings that a whole pack has. Our example shows that it has 3 servings of mixed nuts. But how much are 3 servings? That question leads us to number two. 2. Serving Size This refers to the recommended amount of food that the manufacturer indicated on the label after its thorough measurement and evaluation of the food. Going back to our example, it shows that 1 serving of mixed nuts is 30g. This means 3 servings or a whole pack of mixed nuts is 90g. Knowing the serving size is important to our next item. 3. Calories This refers to the energy that we get from the food we eat. In the photo above, we can see that 1 serving of mixed nuts has 157 calories. This means, that 3 servings or the whole pack contain 471 calories. Why are we counting the serving size and calories? Because exceeding your calorie intake will make you fat. For example, your daily calorie requirement is at 1,500. If you’ll eat three packs of these mixed nuts, that’s already 1,413 calories! You’re almost hitting your calorie requirement for the day without even eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is why knowing calories is important. Now, let’s move on to the macronutrients behind the calories. **4. Fat** Every individual has a macronutrient goal. Mine is different from yours, and yours is different from the others. It depends on your height, weight, age, and daily activities. There are online calculators that you can use to measure your macronutrient requirement. But it is better if you consult a professional. In my case, I don’t compute them anymore. I just pick the food that is low in fat because too much of it will lead to excessive pounds. In weight loss, our goal is to bring down our fat rate and replace the fat with muscles. Going back to our example, 1 serving of mixed nuts contains 9 grams of fat. This is considered high because nuts are a good source of fat. But this is lower compared to butter, oil, and some chips. **5. Carbohydrates** Some people are afraid of this macronutrient because they believe that it makes them fat. But it’s not, overeating does. Carbohydrates are the lead source of energy from food. Without this, you'll most likely end up feeling dizzy and unwell the whole day. Our body “burns” carbohydrates that “fuel” our movements and activities. In this case, 1 serving of mixed nuts has 14 grams of carbohydrates. **6. Protein** This is my personal favorite, and for those who are also in the bulking phase of their fitness journey. I always choose food that is high in protein because it helps in muscle building. I admit, I only look at the protein content of food whenever I’m at the supermarket. As mentioned above, our goal is to replace fat with muscle. More muscles mean a stronger body and immune system. So in our example, 1 serving of mixed nuts contains 5 grams of protein. This is higher compared to chips and other junk food like French fries. Why Is This Important Maybe you're thinking, what about the food that don't contain nutrition facts? For example, fruits, vegetables, and street food? You can check them out on Google. Simple search *"apple nutrition facts"* then scroll down for the results. Now that you have an idea of how to read the nutrition facts, it can help you decide what food to eat in your fitness journey. It is also a gentle reminder to think twice before wanting to finish a whole pack of chips. Always remember that food is not your enemy. We shouldn’t completely remove a food group – whether they’re fat, carbohydrates, or protein - because every macronutrient has a role to play in our overall health. We can eat anything we want as long as it’s in moderation. What do you think of this blog? Will you be able to read the label after reading this? “Media Sa Pilipinas, Mga Bayaran!” 5 (Funny) Insults Vs. PH Media As a journalist, reading and hearing hurtful comments from the viewers are already part of my everyday life. Our social media platforms are flooded with them especially if the news doesn’t favor their political beliefs. I hope these are constructive criticisms, but they’re not. In this blog, I will tell you about the top 5 insults that I read in my 7-year experience in the broadcast industry. Please note that I don’t represent the Philippine media as a whole, this is just based on my own observation. Let’s begin! (Funny) Insults I Read A Lot 1. “meDiA sA PiLiPiNaS, mGa bAYarAn!” I read a lot of this comment since President Rodrigo Duterte sat as the country’s top leader back in 2016. Netizens accuse the media of receiving bribes from critics to put the administration in a bad light. But personally, I haven’t witnessed a fellow journalist receiving money aside from their hard-earned salaries. Seriously, I have no idea how netizens came up with this insult. 2. “FaKe nEwS KaYo!” The role of the media is to seek the truth. We break the information into tiny little pieces so the audience can easily understand the content. For example, a Senate hearing that lasted for 12 hours. Viewers, of course, don’t want to watch senators and resource persons bantering for half a day. So, journalists wrap the hearing for you and give you the important details. Sure, journalists are prone to errors because nothing in this world is perfect. But whenever we commit mistakes, we make sure that we apologize and issue a clarification. Again, personally, I haven’t witnessed a news organization that published or aired fake news. 3. “lAgi Na LaNg mAli nAkiKiTA nInyo!” Aside from seeking the truth, it is the media’s responsibility to dig deep into the issues. One problem will surely lead to another and journalists couldn’t just let them go. We chase every detail especially if there are millions and even billions of funds involved. Journalists surely also write what the government has done well. For example, finishing the construction of expressways and bridges, the arrival of purchased vaccines, the signing of new laws beneficial to Filipinos, and many more. Netizens just don’t read enough. But if they want to watch and read the news that makes the administration so holy, they have the state media network. 4. “bias(ED) kAyO!” Netizens are quick to judge journalists when they grill politicians during an interview. If a news anchor throws hard questions, they will think that he or she is being biased. But journalists are just doing their jobs. They are being critical to squeeze every bit of information from interviewees. Critics or political enemies of an interviewee have nothing to do with the interview. Also, the moment when a politician agrees to be interviewed live, that means that he or she is open to all questions. A piece of advice who will insult us with this, put an “ED” after the word “BIAS” because “BIASED” is the proper term. 5. “mEdiA Sa PiLiPiNas, pAtAy nA! sA bLogGeRz nA kAmI nAniNiWaLa!” This is my personal favorite. The funniest insult of all. Some netizens don’t believe the mainstream media anymore, saying that it’s already “dead” (but they still watch our shows and read our articles online).  According to them, journalists can only see the bad and wrong that’s why they now rely on bloggers who favor the politicians they support. Journalists completed a 4-year course in college studying media ethics, news writing, and basic law to name a few. We didn’t enter the industry just because we have a laptop, camera, and phone, and a good mic to shoot an “informative” vlog. The media chase the news, verifies them, and broadcast it to the audiences. Journalists are most needed especially nowadays that we’re dealing with a raging pandemic and typhoons. They’re Beyond Funny All these insults boil down to one reason – when they thought that we’re tarnishing the reputation and image of the government in the eyes of the Filipino nation and the whole world. Did they hurt me? I don’t want to be a hypocrite. Yes, they did hurt me before when I was still new in the industry. But as days went by, I learned to shrug them off. I don’t want to waste my time and energy absorbing their negativity. Before, I used to hit back at bashers through the comments section. But I just ended up deleting what I wrote because I thought the fight wasn’t worth it. Also, I couldn’t comment or speak against anyone because I am a journalist and my job is, to tell the truth, and the facts, not opinions. As a journalist, I am committed to delivering the news and information, not hate and disinformation. What (funny) insults do you usually get in your job? Tell me about it in the comment section below! #journalism #profession #news #producer

With An 8-Hour Job, How Do I Manage My Time For most employees, being fit and healthy is not a priority if you’re working 8 hours a day. Isn't eating your favorite food while watching a film on a couch is the best way to end a tiring day? I had this mindset when I was weighing 102kg, without realizing that my health was being compromised. How did I overcome it? Journalist In The Morning The action starts as soon as I face my office computer. My shift begins at 8 in the morning and ends at 5 in the afternoon. Every single day, we are time-pressured to finish our tasks and air the news on the dot. The pandemic makes the situation even worse. Since my co-producers are working from home, I have to handle different tasks at a time. Aside from writing news scripts, I also attend meetings, coordinate with people in the newsroom, and handle the airing of our shows. Truly, working in the broadcast media industry is like always catching a last-minute train. But despite all these, I still make sure that health is my number one priority. What's my little secret? Time management. Fitness Enthusiast In The Evening Some of us don’t notice that we overuse social media. We can’t avoid it because we’re still locked down at home. I’m also guilty of this. I have days when I spend hours and hours scrolling my feed and watching random videos online. That especially happens to me because I stay in the office on weekdays. We have designated bedrooms where we sleep and stay. Since I don't need to waste my time riding the bus to get home, I have a lot of spare time in my room. But instead of doing nothing, I make myself productive. Right after my shift, I go straight to my room to change my clothes. After that, I immediately prepare my dinner, as well as my breakfast and lunch for tomorrow. It takes an hour to chop, weigh, and measure all the ingredients. Then, I just toss everything in my air fryer. Another time-saver because I can do other things while waiting for the air fryer’s beep. While my food is cooking, I watch fitness videos on YouTube and TikTok to get some ideas on how to improve my workout. I also make use of the time to read posts and list possible content on my noise.cash and read.cash accounts. We can still do so much after work. It’s just a matter of choosing between watching random videos online or working on self-improvement. When Do I Workout? Living in the office does not stop me from reaching my goals. Even without my equipment for strength training, I still continue my exercise - I jog every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. After cooking my food, I go out of the office and jog in a nearby park. It usually takes me two hours, until the sun is down, to complete my 8-km goal. Jogging is a form of cardio that strengthens our hearts. It is also an effective calorie burner. On weekends, I stay at home. That’s the time when I do my strength training. I usually do the routines for almost two hours. On Saturdays, I train my arms, legs, and shoulders, while on Sundays, I focus on my chest, back, and abs. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are rest days. This is my preferred workout schedule. Choose the best day for you to exercise. But This Isn’t Always The Case I have bad days, too. Long, stressful days at work cannot be avoided. Since my fitness journey began, I had several days, or even weeks, when I binge eat and do nothing but watch a film. But it’s ok. We have to admit to ourselves that we’re not perfect and we can’t fight a bad day at work. What’s important is we pick up ourselves, get back on track as soon as we can, and keep going. Working while staying fit is really a challenge. But once you begin a routine, you will surely succeed. In my next fitness article, I will share with you my top five air fryer meals. What else do you want to know about getting fit? Leave a comment below. #fitness #healthy #caloriedeficit #workout #jogging #millennial

Pro-Tips: How To Buy A Pag-IBIG Foreclosed Property (Last Part) Winning the auction is your only way to own a foreclosed unit from Pag-IBIG. But how exactly can you score the top spot? Let me share with you 6 pro-tips in this blog. But before that, kindly read the first two parts (PART 1 & PART 2 of this series where you can learn the basics of bidding a foreclosed property. https://read.cash/@remofm/step-by-step-how-to-buy-a-pag-ibig-foreclosed-property-part-1-e8f538fc https://read.cash/@remofm/step-by-step-how-to-buy-a-pag-ibig-foreclosed-property-part-2-a8c3ac7c Done? Let’s begin! ‘As Is, Where Is’ Basis Foreclosed properties are secondhand units. This means, there could be a previous owner, or the property was built long ago but never sold. Pag-IBIG acquires and sells these properties – whether they have unpaid bills and dues, legal issues, damaged parts, or even ghosts. All these responsibilities will be passed on to the new owner. That’s why due diligence is key! Never ever bid on a property without doing these **6 tips**. 1. Google Maps and YouTube are your best friends. You can easily find the address of the properties on the official website of Pag-IBIG. You can simply search it on **Google Maps** to see the unit’s satellite image. If you’re lucky, some properties can be seen in 360-degree Street View. Why is this important? Because it gives you an idea of how the house and the community look. Google Maps also has a review and photos section. You can read people’s comments which can help your judgment. Once you find your preferred property, **accessibility** comes as your next priority. If you don’t have a car, you may want a property that can be easily reached. In my case, since my property is in Cavite, I wanted it to be near the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange or PITX which caters to buses to the south. What I did was I scanned the map to locate PITX and assessed its distance to the property. Good thing, the subdivision is near the national highway and only a bus away from PITX. The property is also just 5-minutes away from the subdivision’s gate. Now that you’ve found them on the map, you need to find a way to visit the property. This will be difficult if you’re unfamiliar with the place. **YouTube** can help you. Try searching for available public transport heading to your preferred property. In my case, I searched *“PITX to Tanza”*. I studied every single available video showing the bus trip from the terminal to the point of destination. I wrote down the signage on the bus and some key landmarks in the area. You may check out **“Dito Ang Sakayan”** on YouTube. It’s a channel that gives helpful information on where to take the bus, especially that there are a lot of changes in the system amid the pandemic. 2. Visit The Property Like it or not, you really need to personally visit the property. It is important to know how it looks and feels. Inspect the unit. If it’s locked, you can check it from the outside. Have a look at the windows, walls, and roof. You may also peek inside through the window to check the ceiling and floor. If you can’t personally visit the unit, check out **“Adem’s Family Network”** on YouTube. This channel provides a virtual tour of foreclosed properties. She visits the units and talks about their Pag-IBIG details based on the foreclosed units list. I watched her videos before I joined the auction. 3. Do Not Buy OCCUPIED Units Sometimes, foreclosed properties have **illegal occupants** even if they’re marked **UNOCCUPIED**. Pag-IBIG can’t do something about it. It is the buyer’s responsibility to kick them out or take them to court. It’s not easy to tell people to leave. Some ask you for money, while some are firm and brave as if they paid for the property. You don’t want that headache. That’s why most buyers **snub** units marked as **OCCUPIED.** 4. Talk To Neighbors Upon visiting the foreclosed unit, it’s your chance to speak to your future neighbors! Have a small talk with them about their living conditions in the area. Ask them if they experience flooding, earthquakes, ashfall from the volcano, or any other natural disasters. Find out from them if the area has a nearby market, hospital, mall, business center, church, school, and banks. All these will help you decide whether you really want the unit or not. 5. Write Down Your Preferred Properties Don’t just settle on one unit, have as many as you want and list them in a notebook. Treat it like you’re looking for a new phone or a pair of shoes. You have lots of choices in mind before you decide to buy one, right? In this case, compare the units from one another and weigh every factor such as what’s mentioned above – accessibility, location, neighbors, the structure of the unit, and most importantly, the price. I personally looked at 6 properties before I decided to bid for one. I visited every single one of them on a Saturday to make a wise decision. It wasn’t hard to go from one unit to another because the properties were just within the same subdivision or barangay. 6. Join Facebook Groups Even in the crypto world, you need to join a forum to understand how it works. This is also the case in buying a foreclosed property. There are lots of Facebook groups focused on purchasing a foreclosed unit. You can check them out and read the posts to learn more. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. There are helpful members who can answer you. I also joined a Facebook group before I joined the auction. That’s where I learned all that I talked about in this series. Bonus Pro-Tip: What Is The Winning Bid Price? There are no limits, it’s really up to you. As mentioned in the previous parts of this series, it depends on your budget. Thank you for reading! What? Yeah, right. Here you go. Bid price reveal! @Lazysnail this one's for you. I bought my first property for **Php901,116.99**. The Minimum Gross Selling Price was **Php802,890**. I added a total of **Php98,226.99.** Why that amount? There's really no explanation. I just thought of pricing the property just like how business owners priced their products in malls - always with extra Php0.99, Php199, etc. Other bidders might think to close the price at Php900,000. But as a future winner, you have to think out of the box. If majority will price it that way, then add another Php0.99 so you can win. Again, there are no rules for the bid price. Some members of the Facebook group that I joined said they only added Php20,000, while others revealed that they went as high as Php200,000. Some also said that they won in their third until fifth try, while me, it was just my first try. Buying a Pag-IBIG foreclosed property is really a game of luck. When I submitted my bid, every single day, I tell the universe that I will win, I will own the house, and then it happened. I hope this series inspired you to invest in a foreclosed property. I’m glad that I was able to get positive feedback in my first article I Bought My Own House At 27, Here's How I Did It. https://read.cash/@remofm/i-bought-my-own-house-at-27-heres-how-i-did-it-21be6c23 If you have questions, feel free to ask them in the comment section. 6 Things That Helped Me Lose 25kg Body Weight Did you know that there are simple home items that can help you lose your extra pounds? In this blog, I will tell you about these little things that made a huge impact on my health and body. But wait! *Disclaimer: This is not a piece of expert advice. I’m not a fitness professional. If you want to lose weight, consult a doctor first. I’m sharing this based on my own experience.* Easy-To-Find Things **1. One-liter water tumbler** Price: Php 0 We heard this several times already: drink 8 to 10 glasses of water to maintain a healthy body. But some of us fail to complete this simple task. That's why owning a one-liter water tumbler will help you to stay fit. It will force you to drink what's inside the tumbler, bottoms up! Staying hydrated boosts the metabolism that helps us to feel full easily. Another benefit, you'll have few glasses to wash in the sink! As an active individual, I personally drink 6 liters of water every day using this old milk bottle. 2. Puzzle mat/yoga mat Price: Php 350 Store: Shopee If you want to get fit, you will need to have your own space for workouts. Having a yoga mat or, in my case, an 8-piece puzzle mat will help you to own an area at your home where you can do home exercises. Seeing my puzzle mat also forces and reminds me to workout at least three times a day. But even without a mat, you can still do exercises straight on the floor. No excuses! Not-so-common Things 3. Food weighing scale Price: Php 250 Store: Shopee You don't usually see this in Filipino households. But if you or your mom or sister is into baking, this is definitely can be found in your kitchen. Since I am in a **calorie deficit**, this item helped me to track my food intake every day. Before cooking and digging in, I measure my food first to prevent excessive eating. Some examples of the food I measure are slices of wheat bread, peanut butter, oats, powdered milk, and chicken breast. After measuring, I write down their calorie equivalent and subtract to my daily calorie requirement. 4. Egg boiler Price: Php 150-250 Store: Shopee Yup, this one exists! Part of my diet is eating two eggs every day. The simplest and most nutritious way to cook it is through boiling. But Liquified Petroleum Gas or LPG, which is common in Filipino households, is getting expensive by the day! So I found a way to cook it without using the stove. This egg boiler can cook up to 5 eggs in 25 minutes. Expensive Things 5. Human weighing scale Price: 1,300 Store: Xiaomi This is a smart weighing scale. It comes with an app where I can track my progress. Aside from measuring my body weight, it can also give me other data such as my Body Mass Index or BMI, fat rate, protein intake, visceral fat, and many more. This smart weighing scale is expensive but I got this as a gift for my birthday. If you don't want to spend over a thousand pesos for this one, you have alternatives such as analog or digital weighing scales that you can easily find on e-commerce platforms. 6. Air fryer Price: 2,895 Store: Xiaomi Cooking is made easy with this device. I, for one, am not a natural-born chef so I don't know how to prepare my own food. But with an air fryer, I can just brush the pan with some cooking oil and toss my raw chicken breast seasoned with salt and pepper. Just a few minutes later, I can dig in to my high-protein meal. In my next fitness blog, I will tell you about all the nutritious meals that I cook in my air fryer. What do you think of this list? Do you have in mind some items that should be included? Let me know in the comment section below! #fitness #healthy #caloriedeficit #lifestyle

Behind The Camera: How Journalists Work From Home Our lives made a 360-degree turn when the COVID-19 pandemic began. Since the past year, it has changed the way we think and act to avoid its deadly impact. Millions of lives have been lost. Many jobs have been cut. But for the fortunate ones, work-from-home becomes the new normal. In this entry, I will tell you how journalists like me continue to deliver the news despite the threat of an unseen enemy. **A Day In A Life Of A Senior News Producer** In my previous article when COVID-19 hit our office, I told you that I was among the close contacts of a COVID-19 positive officemate. I was sent home and told to work from home for two weeks. https://read.cash/@remofm/when-covid-19-hit-our-office-heres-what-we-did-99e9fefa It was a challenge at first because I wasn’t used to doing my tasks outside the workplace. But I eventually loved it and told myself that I will never come back to the office. As a Senior News Producer who’s working from home, my tasks include writing scripts, conceptualizing on-air graphics, and lining up news stories for the 12-noon newscast. I handle two shows on a regular basis but the management has temporarily canceled some programs due to lack of manpower. Handling one show a day means more time for other things! How My Day Begins I wake up at 7:00 am to prepare for work. I immediately check my Viber and work email for important messages. After that, I read the news on our Viber group chat, our website, and of course, our competitors’ website. I also speak to the show’s **Executive Producer** or **EP** for a short brainstorming. The EP overlooks the production of the newscasts and approves the **line-up** or **rundown** of stories before sending it to the **news anchor**, our **co-producers**, and **news managers*****.*** At 8:00 am, I get up to see the sun and go down to the kitchen to prepare my breakfast. I usually eat a cup of oats, milk, two eggs, an apple, and water to kick start the day. At 8:55 am, I join our daily meeting via Zoom. This is where news managers discuss stories that producers should put on shows such as updates on COVID-19, President Duterte, Congress investigation on alleged corruption, Afghanistan, *ayuda,* weather, and many more. We also discuss how to treat and write each story, and the deployment of **reporters** for their coverage. The meeting usually lasts for 20 minutes. But when there’s big news, for example, the death of former President Noynoy Aquino, it takes an hour or more. I usually eat my breakfast while listening to the meeting. When it’s done, I do a little chitchat with my co-producers and other members of the 12-noon team. At 9:40 am, I attend another meeting via Zoom. This time, it is about the lineup of the show. The EP will discuss the content for the day - from top stories to world news to entertainment to trending stories. Upon approval from the team, it’s time to write the scripts! **How I Write My Scripts** In the office, we use a software where we input our scripts that anyone in the newsroom can access. It also has all the available information that we need such as scripts from other shows, and news advisories. Since I am working from home, I don’t have that software so I write them on different notepads using my personal laptop. Each producer has three to four items to finish. We get the news from reporters and their crew deployed in the field. Some of them in rallies, crime scenes, city halls, and other government offices. But most of the reporters also work from home because media briefings of officials are being streamed online. While they gather the news, reporters send us information as soon as they are available. We write the script based on their advisories. Writing news for broadcast doesn’t need to be long. Three sentences are enough. Our former boss, who trained us, used to always say, *“Write for the ears of the viewers. If it’s too long, they’re not going to watch you.”.* We also *DYOR* to avoid mistakes and make sure that the scripts are unbiased and accurate. But common mistakes include typographical errors, and wrong figures, and sometimes factual errors. For today, I wrote about the appeal of a teachers’ group to increase their pay in the 2022 elections, the result of the investigation on the crash of two military aircraft in June and July, and a sponsored content. Sometimes, news stories are hard to write especially if you’re unfamiliar with the topic. I personally hate writing about legal issues such as rulings on cases, sports stories like PBA and NBA, and business news such as inflation, economic outlook, and GDP growth. It takes me hours to digest a long statement before I can write a script that viewers can understand easily. Whenever this happens, I leave my work for a few minutes to play with our furbaby, *Butchay.* She relieves my stress all the time. After finishing my scripts, it undergoes the scrutiny of the EP, the copyeditor, and the news anchor. I send it first to the EP via Viber. After a few edits, I send it to the copyeditor via email. The news anchor can check it through the teleprompter. At 11:30 am, all scripts are in and pasted in the teleprompter for the news anchor who also works from home. We're ready to air! The show begins at 12-noon sharp and ends at 12:30 pm. I watch the show live on TV and on Facebook. I also monitor our Viber group chats to check on possible breaking news. If there’s a breaking story, I alert the EP so we can plan on how to include it. After the show, it’s time for lunch with my family! **Pains Of Working From Home** Sometimes, I end up talking to myself because I have no one else in my room but my laptop and Viber. I am a people person. I work effectively with my officemates around and I’m used to speaking to them personally. But when you’re working from home, you’ll have to chat with them one by one. Having a laggy laptop and a slow internet connection add up to my struggles. I also don’t have the software we use in writing so I had to manually search for news stories and advisories when I need them. In my office computer, I can simply input *CTRL* + *F* and in just a few clicks, I can get the information I need. **Gains Of Working From Home** If there are pains, of course, there are even more gains! Unlike in the office where I need to buy and cook my own food, at home, my Dad cooks our delicious and filling lunch and dinner, while my Mom cooks snacks! I can just go down to the dining and dig in with them. It’s family time every day! Since I only handle one show, I only work for about four to five hours. This means I have more spare time to do other things. Let’s get straight into it – posting on **read.cash** and **noise.cash**! Working from home is the reason why I am very active on both platforms. I have time to plan, conceptualize, and post my content. I personally love posting photos on noise.cash almost hourly which I never did in my other social media sites. While here on read.cash, I have time to focus on writing my blogs. I even stay up until 4:00 am to finish an article. Aside from those, I am also able to focus on my health. I workout at least three times a week which I can’t do when I’m in the office. I can also eat nutritious food prepared by my Dad and Mom. Eight to seven hours of quality sleep is also priceless! **Next week, I will be back in the office. Let’s see what happens by then. During my stay, would you like me to give you an exclusive look at our newsroom, control room, and studio? Tell me in the reply section below!** **#journalist #workfromhome #covid19 #work**

Binansagan itong *“Heart of the Philippines”* dahil sa hugis puso nitong itsura. #travel #marinduque #tourism #tourist #beach
