I Wish I Can Stop It. Topic: Stop time - "If you could stop time (and remain there) which year, moment, event or era would you choose, and why?"
Image Source. https://www.pexels.com/photo/brave-doctor-in-flying-superhero-cape-with-fist-stretched-6303759/ This is one of the weekend engagement topics I answered on Hive a few days ago and I wanted to share it with everyone here too because of how special today is. You will know how special it is when you read the poem towards the end of this post. To answer the question above, I would say I wish I can stop time or go back in time. Wouldn't it have been so easy for us to not live in sorrow anymore or miss people that deeply? R. Kelly's song couldn't have come at a better time "***If I Could Turn Back The Hands of Time***". If I have a superpower to do anything, it would be to stop time. I would go back in time to May 16, 1998, and I want to stay there and live there for as long as I can because it means I wouldn't have to deal with so many events that happened years after too. It means I would have avoided them just with that singular act of stopping time before disaster struck. I am the last born of the family and I used to have 3 older siblings but they are two now. We are three boys and a girl and unfortunately, we lost the only girl amongst us on the 16th of May, 1998. I was young and I didn't know much about her ailment. I feared asking because I don't want to make my mother or dad cry again. I know she used to be in and out of the hospital for a while but it was a recent event then that happened in 1998. There was this particular time I went to the hospital to sleep beside her bed which explained how close we were. We even shared the same room while the other two older brothers shared one. She was the calmest lady you would ever meet and I've never seen anyone as calm or as quiet as she was, even to this day. She loves peace and won't even argue with anyone or stir up drama unnecessarily. It has been the reason why I try my best to avoid people's drama sometimes. She was so meet and loveable and I wish I could go back to maybe a year before then when she was healthy enough for us to play and laugh around. She was a sweet soul.

It means we wouldn't have to lose her and she would still be with us for a long time. I don't mind repeating the same day over and over again as long as she is beside me. A lot of people noticed how close I am with ladies and this is one of the reasons. It's not because I'm seeing my sister in them, but because I lacked what it means to have the ever-presence of one while growing up. This is me making up for those years... Don't judge me. She was the purest soul you'd ever meet. 2. It means I would not have to deal with the death of my dad too in 2006, May 26th since we would all be living in 1998 and my family would all be together. 3. It also means I wouldn't have to deal with the death of my mother in 2009, June 15th. It means I would have more time to spend with her for as long as I could. It means I wouldn't have to see her gasp for breath after she told me she loved it when I teach in fellowship. It means I wouldn't have to cry that day as we were rushing her to the hospital and I wouldn't be chasing the car she was being rushed to the hospital barefooted. It means I wouldn't have to watch her body at the morgue or even keep reliving her last moments and how she was struggling, in my head. 4. It also means I won't have to face this adult life because it's nothing but a scam. No one prepared us for this harsh reality. Living life as an adult is a different ball game. Things are not how they used to be and I can honestly say it's tiring and my tiredness is tired. Stopping time in 1998 means I won't have to grow up to shoulder so many responsibilities that makes my neck hurt 🙈🙈🙈. It means I would still be under my parents' watch and I am okay with that. I would go back in time to 1998, pause the time and live in that moment for as long as I can so I wouldn't have to deal with the future events that happened afterwards. Today makes it 24 years since my late sister passed away. Here is the poem I wrote for her which I also shared on Hive under my username; Olawalium. **24 Years, Still Doesn't Make It Easier.**
*16th May 1998 - 24 years without your smile* *It's another year without you for me to reach* *How time flies but that doesn't mean it has been easier* *Every day - night and day there are no new words of yours to preach* *Dearest sister, you were the fairest of them all, you still are* *Your calm demeanour and your incredible personality* *Your kindness, your smile and your amazing charm made you a darling to all* *You always banish my demons with your smile and drove away all my fears* *You are incredible, phenomenal and stood out amongst your peers* *It's still fresh and it was just like yesterday* *Snatched away by the fold hands of death without a goodbye* *There was no warning, you kept smiling through every pain* *Giving hope that you would be better and stronger* *They said death doesn't surprise wise people because they are always ready to leave* *Your smile will forever be etched in my heart - having a place till eternity* *Soft, tender, gentle, kindhearted, amazing and charming* *You were phenomenal and phenomenal is you* *To the world, you may have departed in person* *I carry you everywhere we go in my heart and that won't ever change* *And not a year passes by without your thought in my heart* *This day would never leave my memory for as long as I live* *Adebisi Abiodun Oladoja - gone but not forgotten -* *Your kind of person can never be forgotten in a hurry* *Sing with the angels since you were one when you were here anyway* *You simply went home and I know it must be a great homecoming for you* *Till we meet to part no more and until then* *I would hold you in my heart for as long as I can* *Love you, big sister - your kind is rare and I miss you* *Thank you for your time.* *My pen doesn't bleed, it speaks. I am love's chemical content in human form and that's why I advise people to take a dose of "****Olawalium****" daily.* 🙈 Kindly follow me on **Noise.Cash**... Such memories are hard to forget, I felt touched while reading the your story. It reminded me of my late Mom. May the good Lord keep her soul in peace.
Thank you so much, sir and I am sorry about your mum. Memories like this can never be forgotten in a hurry.
One thing that hurts so bad is losing someone you love. You wrote that she's a peaceful soul and I'm sure she's at peace wherever she is. Your story seems to be interesting and a bit tragic. I'm sorry😊. Have a nice time
Thank you so much dear. I appreciate this.
Wow I feel so sad when going through all those incident that happened. But since all those things has already happen, there is nothing we can do, we couldn't stop it from happening, we don't even have the strength in us to stop death from taking away our love ones. Yet we can't stop time from moving forward, but all those memory are so so painful, and it's something we can never forget in a hurry, but all we need to do is just to take heart, we have to strengthen ourselves and keep moving forward.
That's true. We cannot stop time or go back in time but we just have to keep moving on. Thanks a lot for this.
It's my pleasure sir.
So sorry about this, this is really heartbreaking, this life is really an irony, while you are sad today another is celebrating her birthday today..... Am so so sorry about your mum and dad too, I wish I can give you a hug for a minute, it's really painful, please do take care.
I could really use that hug. Thank you so much. I am really grateful.
We all have this moment in our lifes when we wished time could stop, when we wished what had happened should have never happened. All we have to do is to leave the past behind and move forward. When our loved ones becomes our memory they become a treasure to us.
Yes, that's the best we can do; wish. We have to forge ahead and not allow ourselves to be held back by life.
Sorry for what happened, uncle Ola, and how I hope our wishes could come true so we could fix what ails us....sorry about your mother and father and everything that occurred.
I have faith that everything will be alright. Deeply appreciated, Vic.
Time doesn't make it any easier, I wish I can stop time too. I can relate a bit to this. I'm so sorry about everything
Thank you so much, my friend.
Really touching. Can't say I can relate as I have never really lost anyone that close to me. Although, I lost a sister too around that 98/99 not sure exactly and I don't ask much because of how it affects my mom. But I was still very young and she was only a baby when she died so I don't have the memories really. But I do have a younger sister and she's my favourite siblings (don't tell my other siblings). She is a vibe and always looks out for others. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I lost her. May your sister's soul continue to rest in perfect peace.
Hahaha don't worry. .I won't tell your other siblings. Thank you so much for your kind words. Deeply appreciated. 🤗🤗. I pray she would live longer... God bless your heart.
May the beautiful soul of your dearly departed sister continue to rest in the bosom of the lord. Anytime time I read any of your articles about the loved ones you death have taken from you, I always get emotional
I can't help but get emotional too. Memories sips from my veins sometimes. Thanks dear.
I once lost a sister too, then I was the youngest, though I didn't get to know her very well, but I still have few memories of her till date.
Those memories can never go away. Thanks brother.
I know that loss is also painful. Everything will never come back unless we have a time machine. I hope that everything gets better from now on.
Absolutely and I believe everything will get better too. Thanks a lot.
Being lost with someone isn't easy at all. We can't stop pouring our tears and emotions. We get better and okay soon.
Yes, we hope to get better and move on eventually but those memories won't go away.
Loosing someone dear to us really hurts Ola! Now I understand why you have many girl friends as I saw in some pictures you uploaded sometimes or I read in your articles.. For sure your sister is happy where she is now as she watched how you grow as a fine gentleman.
I wish I can run to you right now and give you a warm hug. Thanks a lot, Lhes.
Reading this story literally brought tears to my ears particularly the part when you had to chase after the car taking your Mom to the hospital barefoot. Losing a loved one is something nobody ever wishes for. So sorry about all these Sir Ola. This is painful 😣.
Absolutely...I can't even wish it on someone I hate. It's a terrible state. Thank you so much, brother. I really appreciate you.
Egbon oga o, bi ile aye shey ri ni yen,ki olorun sha maa da abo re bo wa,mo gbadura pe e o ni ri iru re mo. Nipa ti igbe aye agba nnnnn olorun mu yin pe owo ago ko shey e yi pada, ki gbogbo wa gba kamu ni...... hope I tried with my yoruba
You more than tried and yes, I understood everything. Amen and thank you so much dear.
I don't have any regrets living in todays time but if I could go back in time and stop it, it would be the time that my family was complete, where we were so happy enough to just not think about tomorrow, where Our family got broken..
I can relate a little to that. I wish we all can too. Thanks a lot.
I'm on tears while reading this my dear, really it's hard and really regretful to not spending time with our love ones when they are still here beside us, I wish we really can go back and stop time where they are still here. I also wanted to go back and stop the time when my aunt was still alive but I can't and I know that all dear to us that leave this world will still always be there guiding and looking for us from a far.
I am so sorry about your aunt too, my friend. I wish we have that super power to effect that change and halt the death. Thank you so much.
Reading that first line there made me wanted just go back to when I was born and after reading further I saw the year 1998 and I was like ok maybe it's a coincidence but truly sad sorry accept my deepest condolences please, but frankly speaking, I just want to go back to when I was born in 1998 because sometimes being a baby is just better than being an adult with all these adult problems and all this adult stuff, being a baby I way more enjoyable and having all your parents around to take care and provide for and not that am running or shying away from my responsibility but damn being an adult is killing me. just go back in time and be a child with my whole family intact because that feeling there is just the best, please again do accept my sincere condolences.
I know how that feels. Sometimes I just wish I can run from the responsibilities of adulthood too, sadly we can't. They call it growing up...just as the rose comes forth despite the thorns. Good to have you here.
If only we have the ability to stop or turn back the time, why not? We really love to see those important person in our lives for once
Absolutely. I would give anything to have that moment back.
I understand your feelings. I am sorry to here that you lose someone from your life. We don't have ability to control the power of our creator.
I missed this challenge.. Good luck uncle
Your sorrow is understandable dear. We all have events we wish we can change but life just have to move on. Tomorrow is better
Damn, this is very painful to read and although I feel your pain, I can't really tell how you feel coz I haven't lost anybody very close to me. Sorry about the family members you have lost, may their souls continue to rest in perfect peace
No one can't stop time neither can anyone hold it not to move Am so sorry for everything that has happened to you I guess it is meant to be
Ohh. I'm so touched Ola! Your sister is so dear to you that you want to stop time just to be with her forever. That's love.
So many sad memories in just a year 🥺. As for me, I'm not sure to what time I want to go back and remain there. I think I'm okay with my life now and I already move on to the sad events hmmm 🤔.
Time is reality. It is like we have to accept whatever comes our way, even if we like it or not. Very sad to hear about your sister whom you were close to. The poem her strength and your pain in losing her. If ever given a chance to go back I would definitely love to go to my childhood days. As you said no responsibility, a carefree life under the shelter of parents.
Sir If I could go back in time I would definitely want to live in the year 2014 & 2015 because there are so beautiful memories of mine that are linked to those two years. But Time only flows forward so we have got to live with what we given now. It will bring good things again for you, for me and everyone. Hope for the best
Such a sad one, I wonder how you coped, I guess it made you stronger Mr Ola, going back in time would have really been so much fun, going back in time would make us rewrite so many wrongs, going back in time would have shielded us from those sun burns we had due to our childish and ignorant minds. But it's a pity, life goes on. Sorry about Big Sis, I really can't imagine what it means to loose a sibling and still loose both parents. Such nice poem you have there Mr Ola, I'm sure her heart embraces your unforgotten love for her, even in her demise.
Sir, as i read this from the start to the end, i had to reread it again. Kaiii!! Sorry for all you have passed through, it isn't easy when one losses his loved ones, elder sister, dad & mum. I strongly believe your elder would be your gist partner, your playmate, and your friend. You both shared the same room , that's a great love, but na wa for death oh that took her away from you, if you could turn back the hand of time, you would go back to those days you both used to have beautiful time together. Those memories cannot be forgotten. Rest in peace to Aunty Abiodun, rest in peace to Daddy, bàbá rere!!! Rest in Peace to Mum, ìyá dáradára . I know they didn't die, they only slept, certainly you will see them again by the resurrection morning at Christ's side, where there will be no more departure. God strengthen and help you always Egbon.
