Did you know that in folktales, tortoise has a lot to do with why pigs sniff the ground. If interested in the full African folktale, click the link below https://read.cash/@Sylv_Sylv/folktale-why-the-pig-sniff-around-6fcf6da1
Folktales are told to explain certain things that occur in nature. False but enticing stories are told to explain the existence of certain things like rain, smoke, thunder and so on. Folktales are common in every society as they also form part of teaching morals. Was folktale a part of your childhood? Is it even a thing in your society?๐
God has given is nature to love and to nature. Those splendid creatures of God are a masterpiece with no other arts to compare with. The blooming flowers brings joy and the thriving forest life creates fulfillment when viewed
Why the turtle is bald Long ago, the fictional turtle had a really long hair which he loved to style everyday. One day, he decided to embark on a journey at a distant land. Because he was too slow, night befell him. He decided to seek shelter at an old woman's hut. When he got there, the old woman was very welcoming. She even had a pot of porridge on fire. The turtle was glad to join her for dinner. The porridge sweeter than anything the turtle had ever eaten. He wanted me more but didn't know how to tell the woman within sounding greedy. He had to keep quiet. When it was time to sleep, the old woman prepared a comfortable bed for the turtle. He was very happy but uncomfortable. He needed to eat that porridge again. When he saw that the old woman had gone to bed, he sneaked out to steal some porridge. The old woman was a light sleeper, so she caught him. He claimed that he only wanted to urinate and so the old woman went back to bed. He could not steal the porridge. The following day, the woman asked the turtle to stay for breakfast which he agreed to do. The woman only had to warm the porridge. When she went to the backyard to get more wood, the turtle opened the pot which was already on fire to steal some porridge. It was too hot, so he had to put them in his hat. When he saw that the woman was already coming back, he immediately wore the hat. The porridge was too hot and soon began to burn his head. He rushed to leave but the woman insisted that he ate breakfast with her. Throughout the breakfast period, the turtle was in great pain. When he eventually left the old woman's hut, the porridge in his hat has already turned cold. He took off his hat and to his dismay, his hair fell off along with the already cold porridge. Because the burn he suffered on his head was great, Mr Turtle's hair never grew again. Serves him right for being greedy. Thanks for reading ๐ All images from Google

The proud Lion king and e the turtle Long ago in the animal kingdom, the lion was recognized as their king. It is still so in every folktale. He was a proud king. He boasted of his achievements to the other animals and in one of his boastful words, he said, "out of the goodness of my heart, I will make anyone who is able to drink a bowl of hot boiling water the king of the animal kingdom for a few months". The animals in he kingdom became excited and decided to accept the challenge. Lion has over oppressed them with too much boasting. So why not take the title of king from him for a few months. Because his challenge was accepted by the other animals, King Lion fixed the event of the challenge at the village square. On the appointed date, he set a huge fire in the middle of the village square. Soon, the water began to boil. All the animals attempted to drink a bowl of boiling water but soon realised that it was a tough challenge. They soon gave up. King Lion laughed his heart out as he watched them individually struggle to take a sip from the boiling water. He felt good. When he saw that the animals were unable to meet with his challenge, he decided to call it off. It was at that time that the smart Mr. Turtle appeared. He showed his interest in the challenge and so was allowed to try his luck. Being he super smart animal that he was, he told he Lion King that before he drinks the water, he would like to show it to all the animals present, just for them to confirm that the water was truly boiling hot. His condition was accepted so he took the bowl from the fire and regards to show all the animals. By the time Mr. Turtle was done showing the hot water to all the animals present, it had turned cold. He then drank the supposed hot water. Everyone was surprised at his bravery. The king was annoyed that someone was able to win his challenge. He had no other option .but to make Mr. Turtle the king for a few months. No one realized that he had tricked the Lion King. He was a smart player. Thanks for reading ๐

Folktale: Importance of honesty In an imaginary land lived a king without an heir. He was on his death bed. He knew that before he met with his ancestors, he had to appoint someone he could trust to be the next king. He needed an honest man for the position. He told his right hand man, "invite all the eligible young men to my palace. I need to appoint your next king". The right hand man did as he was told. On the appointed day, the palace was filled with young men from all descents. They were all eager to be chosen as heirs to the throne. Some of them were from poor backgrounds, so they hoped to change their lives for good if they are successfully chosen as heirs. The rich ones amongst them thought that the king will choose a rich and noble heir. When the king's aid came to address them, he gave each and everyone of them a seed. He said to them, "the king orders that you all go home and nurture these seeds. Come back here in three months from now to present what you have grown to the king. They all left with the seeds given to them. Among those who where present in the kings palace was a sickly poor boy. He went home with his seed and showed his mother who helped him to nurture it. The seed was placed in a pot filled with fertile sand. Days turned into weeks but the seed refused to germinate. The boy was distressed. He said to his mother, "I think I was given a bad seed. The ones given to my friends have all germinated. Isn't it better that I replace the seed so as not to go back to the king with an empty pot". His mother advised him against doing so. According to her, honesty demanded that he grows the exact seed given by the king. Days passed slowly and soon it was three months. It was the day they were to present the seed they have grown but the sickly boy's seed never germinated. He took his empty pot to the king's palace. He felt awkward when he saw that every other person has a pot with a germinated seed inside. The potted plants were all beautiful. He was mocked by others for not knowing how to grow a simple plant. When it was time to present their seedlings to the king, the others gladly presented theirs. When the king saw the sickly boy, he said to the crowd, "I have found an honest heir to my throne and wealth. I gave you all cooked seed to grow but you all came back with germinated seeds. Whoever told you that a cooked seed can grow!" It turned out that every one of them changed their seeds when it refused to grow. It was the sickly poor boy that was honest enough to have not changed his seed. All images from Google

My Saturday Clean ups have become a normal Saturday activity or rather culture. Families her to put the house in order, weed the compound as well as do other home chores that has accumulated over the week. I'm not a huge fan of clean up days though. I make sure to do something each day to avoid the work from piling up on Saturdays. That's how I cope. My Saturdays are strictly for my DIY projects. Today, I decided to put a finishing touch to one of my bags. I made the bag sometimes back but I was too lazy to finish it up until today. I would have loved to share the link to how I made the bad but know how to share links here. I was also able to cut and put together new materials I will use in sewing a new bag before I left for my grandma's home. She's been down with fever for some weeks now but I've not been able to make out time for her because of work. I missed her so much. There is nothing as better as seeing her with my two eyes instead of the constant phone calls we make to each other. She is such a strong willed woman. Her fever doesn't deter her from laughing and playing with her grandkids. She is fun to be with. She hated having her picture taken so I couldn't take any Going to see Grandma also gave me the opportunity to meet with my cousin sister. The weather was bad so we couldn't take Grandma out. I had to play with my cousin's nail paint and makeup. I just wanted the make-up because I'm so brutal at it. My cousin sis is a professional makeup artist, so whatever mischief I make with her makeup is kept a secret from her. She'll just murder me haha I'm still at my grandma's home having the fun of my life. I can't wait for her midnight folktale stories. I will be going back home tomorrow to continue with my DIY project. Have a nice day guys๐ Lead image from unsplash.com Other images by me

The turtle and the monkey The folktale tortoise was not just known for being smart and cunning, he was also a vengeful animal. It was said that in the imaginary land of folktales, he once had the trickster monkey as a best friend. They were said to always be together. Their friendship came to an end after the monkey tricked Mr. Turtle and refused to apologise. Enraged, the turtle said to him, "since you refused to apologise, I will make you suffer for tricking me". It was not known what exactly the monkey had done to tick the turtle off. The turtle went home to his wife and asked her to prepare beancake for him. After the beancake was prepared, he took it to the house of the king. The king was the lion. He gave the cake as homage to Lion. The lion loved the beancake and asked for more. The turtle told him that the beancake can only be made with the urine of a monkey, and make the beancake sweet, the monkey would have to be beaten. The lion bought this stupid story and went to the monkey's house to obtain his urine. He made sure to beat the monkey up mercilessly. It was after beating him that he discovered that the turtle has used him to get revenge on the monkey. The lion went home in anger. The turtle who was watching the event unfold came out from his hiding place and began to laugh at the crying monkey. He said to him, "I told you I would revenge on you, hahaha". They became enemies from then on. ๐Mr. Turtle deserves serious spanking. Shout-out to my readers and commenters. You are loved๐ All images are from Google

How dog became man's best friend Once upon a time in the animal kingdom, there was maximum peace and security. Soon, the peace and security turned into chaos and insecurity as humans began to discover animals in the forest. They robbed, killed and kidnapped forest animals for domestic and monetary gains. They became a threat to the animal kingdom. News of missing animals began to plague the kingdom, so an inevitable meeting was held. The Dog was one of the animals that attended the meeting. He was of the opinion that the animals should migrate since there is no way they can chase man away, but his opinion was rejected by the other animal. This annoyed him. The animals later agreed to lie in wait for their enemies, men, so that when they come to capture them, they can be chased away. Because the Dog was not happy with the decision of the animals, he decided to betray them. After all, they thought his idea of leaving the kingdom was a stupid one. The He went to the house of one of the human hunters and told him about the ambush being laid for them but the animals. The man thanked him and gave lots of food and meat. The man went and told other hunters about the ambush, so they all decided to use guns this time around. On the day the animals had planned to attack the humans, they were killed with guns and the few surviving ones went into hiding. Later on, the animals held another meeting in which they decided that man's strength lies on the long metal gun they carried around. The only way to win back security in their land was by stealing the guns. They planned to go at night when the humans must have gone to sleep. The Dog who was also in attendance of this meeting went back to the humans and told them of these plans. That night, the humans hid their guns, the animals were unable to steal anything from them. It was at that time that the animals realized that there was a traitor among them. After much investigations, they discovered that the dog is always present in their meetings but never follows them when it is time to fight against the humans. They also discovered that he always left the kingdom to visit the humans at odd hours. They had to chase him away from their kingdom as punishment. After he was chased away from the kingdom, the Dog went to the humans where he was accepted and treated as one of them. He even joined the humans in hunting the other animals. The chief's party In an imaginary land ruled by a chief, the chief decided to throw a party in celebration of his birthday party. It was to be a huge feast with dignitaries from other kingdoms in attendance. The chief sent a message to the citizens of his land that they can come and enjoy themselves at his party but every man in attendance must bring with him a pot of wine which is to be poured into a very large pot prepared by the king. The wine would be used to entertain all the guests. One man who wanted to attend but was too stingy to part with a pot of wine decided to carry water instead. He said to himself, "one little pot of water poured into a large pot of wine will do nothing to change it's taste. No one will discover the trick he has up his sleeves. His wife said to him, "this is a feast where you'll get to have fun and eat anything you want without paying for it. Why can't you just sacrifice a little pot of wine?" He refused to pay her any attention. If hundreds of guests poured wine into the chief's pot, his water will do nothing to change the taste. On the day of the Chief's birthday celebration, the guests arrived with their individual pots of wine which they all poured into the huge pot in the chief's palace. The man also poured his own pot of water into the huge pot of wine. When it was time to make a toast, the chief ordered the servants to pour wine from the pot for every guest in attendance. It turned out to be that there was no wine in the pot but only water. It turned out that each guest thought to bring water as the others would bring wine. Imagine the embarrassment. This is the exact situation we face in our world today. We want to make the world a better place without contributing any positivity. We leave it for others to do not knowing that the others are also leaving it for us to do. Imagine if it is time for election in our various countries, and we refuse to register ourselves as voters simply because we want others to do the election. What the others were also waiting for others an at the end of the day the required leaders do not end up in office? Who then will make your nation better, your ghosts? No. We need to get up today and learn to participate actively and bring out the needed positivity to make life and living better. Thanks for reading ๐ Images from Google
The stupid thieves 1 Three thieves decided to go on a stealing spree in a neighboring town. One was fat, the second was tall and the third one was short. So let's call them Fatty, Tally and Shorty. On the day of their stealing spree, Tally volunteered his vehicle for the operation. Fatty was made the driver because none of them could drive better than him. It was a smooth ride. They stole from various households, banks and even from business centers. It was the biggest they ever stole. They were proud of themselves as they were able to make away with all these loots. After their successful robbery spree, they decided to take their loots back home. Again, Fatty took the wheel. When they got to the highway, Fatty who was in cloud nine from all their loots decided to show off his driving skills. It was then that disaster occurred. He was unable to avoid a pothole which led to an accidental occasioning harm to the three of them. The vehicle which belonged to Tally was damaged. Tally valued his vehicle so much that the injury he sustained from the accident was nothing compared to the pain of seeing his dented vehicle. He threatened to report and sue Fatty for negligent driving if he refuses to repair or buy him a new vehicle. This was followed by a series of argument and a fight . Subsequently, Tally had to report the matter to the police station. It turned out that the police were already looking for Intel on the thieves that wrecked havock in the town. They were arrested and put in prison for the crime they had reported themselves on. Thanks for reading ๐ All images from unsplash

The supreme being knows I looked towards the bright blue sky laced with big foams of cloud. It was said that beyond those clouds lived the supreme one who oversees the happenings in the world, but I can't help but wonder if I'm too insignificant for this supreme being to notice or maybe life hasn't dealt me enough blows to attract his attention towards me. I have lots of questions seeking answers but it is saddening enough that each time I look towards the heavens, his rumoured abode, I sees no sign that I'm being watched over or heard. All the time I ask for a sign but all I get is more suffering, more labour and more punishment from the wicked Miss. Tim for every trivial mistake. Her punishments would leave me and the other children in pain for days. She always says it is to make us more hardworking and less burdensome to the families that would adopt us. Not just me, but all the children in the orphanage hated her to the core. She was our nightmare. We all prayed to the supreme being to soften Miss. Tim's spirit and make her wear a smiling face. That way, she would be nice to us. The gray haired middle age man who always stood at the pulpit in the church near the orphanage would always tell us that the supreme being above knows our every need and will forever be there to help us. But why is it that each time I pray, I mean we pray for Miss. Tim to be nice, she increase our work and punishment. One Sunday, after the gray haired man had taught us the gospel, I sneaked away from the other children and approached him. I thought that since he always spoke about the supreme being, he would be in the best position to relay our prayers to him. If nothing happens this time, if we keep suffering the way we are, then I'll be convinced that the supreme being is a bluff. That day, I was severely punished by Miss. Tim for sneaking around in the church. I was sad. Two weeks after this incident, Miss. Tim was removed from her job as a caretaker in the orphanage. The priest told us that she has been punished by the appropriate authority. We got a new caretaker who was nice to us and treated us like we were her children. I finally got convinced that the supreme one sure cared about his creations and according to the grey haired priest, we didn't just have to pray. We also had to put in physical efforts to get our problems solved. If I hadn't talked to the priest, we would have still be in suffering. The creator sees it all. Fiction All images from unsplash

My Monday Hello readland family. Hope you are making the best out of your days. Yesterday was Pakistan independent day celebration and the love shown was massive. Hurray to all Pakistani read Landers. So today, Catholics all over the world joined hands together to celebrate the feast of the assumption of the blessed Virgin Mary into heaven. It is a day meant to be kept as holy as every service Sundays. Working is forbidden on this special day. I woke up early in the morning to attend the 6:00am church service that was held in my parish today in celebration of Mary's feast. After spending a lovely one hour thirty minutes with God, I came back home to face my home chores. Since there would be no work today, I had to focus on home chores. Cleaning the house over and over again out of boredom since all the chores were taken care of during the weekend. I don't have much friends here at home since they've all moved out to different parts of the country. So I can't even spend the day having fun with them, just calls. The only fun activity I intend having today is strolling round the neighborhood, perhaps I will meet someone who is up to catch fun together. There is no fun as good as that we catch with people around us. I'm guessing that a huge part of my day would be spent in bed tossing and turning and begging sleep to take me on a merry journey to a wonderland. Shout-out to you readers, @TheRandomRewarder and all my subscribers. Remain phenomenal. All images including lead image are from unsplash.com

The hungry crocodile One day, a group of animals were passing through a bridge. The bridge was built to create an access road through a big river inhabited by crocodiles. Before the bridge was built, the animal kingdom recorded a great loss of its habitats most of whom had tried to swim through the river. It was as a result of these losses that the kingdom came together to build an access been bridge road avoided d drowning and to facilitate movement to and fro the animal kingdom. When these group of animals got to the middle of the bridge, they heard cries for help coming from under the bridge. They looked down to see a crocodile struggling for help. The crocodile said to them, "help me, something is about to eat me. You can't let me die, please. Send down a rope to help me up, I beg of you". The animals were confused. How can a crocodile seek for help to get out of the river. Some of them thought that the hungry crocodile was trying to eat them, so they hastened and left the place. The rest of them who thought that the crocodile was truly in desperate need of help decided to help him. They let down a rope to the crocodile who joyfully climbed up. It was when the crocodile had climbed up to them that they realized their mistake. He ate them up, patted his huge belly and dived back into the river to await his next victims. It is good to extend helping hands to those in need but it is not all the time that we should be helpful. When the situation is obviously to our disadvantage and detriment, why bother to help. It is always good to shine our eyes in every situation to avoid leading ourselves to our doom. `Story copyright by Immaculata`
The biblical prodigal son You must have perhaps heard the story of the biblical prodigal son. It is a common story among Christians. A parable told by Christ. It tells the story of a son who was greatly doted on by his father. The young prodigal son was unsatisfied with the life he led with his father and elder brother in their little farmhouse, so he asked his father to give him his own inheritance. The old man refused to do so but upon incessant pestering by the young son, he had to give in and share his property into two equal parts, one for the eldest son and one for the youngest son. The young prodigal son went with his inheritance into a faraway land and squandered it's on earthly things. Soon he has nothing left. In order to survive, he had to find a job where he fed pigs. Sometimes he would feed along with the pigs because he had nothing to feed on. Meanwhile, the father to this prodigal son would always stay out on the road path waiting for his son to come home to him. Night turned into days and there into years but his son never came back. The old man never give up awaiting his son's return. The prodigal son who now leads a life of poverty soon realised his mistake. One day while feeding his master's pigs, he thought to himself and said, "in my father's house there enough to make merry and drink but here I am eating with pigs. I shall go back to my father and say to him, 'father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am not worthy to be called your child anymore for I have wronged you greatly. So please, take me as one of your servant and I shall gladly serve you with all my heart." After he has said this to himself, he went off and embarks on a journey back home to his father. When his father sighted him from afar, he rushed and hugged his long lost son. He ordered the servants to kill the fattest cow and prepare a banquet to celebrate the return of his son whom he had thought was dead. In the old man's oldest son who had gone to feed the cows came back, he saw that there was a great feast in the house. So he called one of the servants who told him that his father had called the banquet to welcome back his long-lost younger brother. The elder brother was infuriated. He called his father aside and said to him, "father, all those years I have toiled for you and you never gave me a lamb to eat and make merry with my friends. But as soon as that insolent son of yours came back from squandering your wealth, you decide to throw him a party?" His father said to him, "all I have now is yours bird eat is good that we rejoice and throw a party for your brother, but he was lost and he has been found. He was dead but now he's alive." `This is an adaptation of the biblical prodigal son as recorded in the Gospel of Luke 15:11-32` `Lead image from unsplash.com`
Folktale: Playing Smart Hello read.cash family. I bet we've all heard the saying that it is more productive to work smart than to work hard. I mean sometimes we see ourself sweating it all out to achieve something. We put all our hardwork into doin something and then someone comes and achieve what you have been trying to achieve without doing much work. It is mostly because they worked smart. There is an African folktale that focuses on the concept of working smart. It is the story of the race between the turtle and the hare. In the animal kingdom, the hare was known as one of the fastest animals while the turtle was one of the slowest. They were the opposite of each other in terms of fastness. The hare would always rub it to the turtle's face that he was faster than him. He would always taunt him saying, "even if you were one meter away from your house, it willp eventually take your three days to enter your room". This always got the turtle infuriated. One day when the animals in the king's were in a meeting, the turtle was unfortunately late. The hare taunted him saying, "I know that you left home before every other animal, but because you are sluggish, you were the last to arrive at the meeting venue". This made the turtle more annoyed so he challenged the hare to a race. He said to the hare, "if I win this challenge against you, you will have no other option but to be my servant". The hare proudly accepted the challenge. The animals who were present at the meeting fixed a date for the running contest. The hare was confident that he would be the winner. When the turtle got home, he was at a loss for what to do. He had proposed the challenge in a fit of anger. He knew he could not win against the hare and he would loose face if he called off the challenge. He had to play smart. On the day of the contest, the turtle came very early to the venue. When the other animals arrived, they were split in two. Half would be at the competition take off point while the other half were to stay at the finish line and wait for the winner of the race. Prior to the beginning of the race, the turtle made his family to stay at strategic positions in the race. His family all looked alike, so no one would be able to suspect a thing. Besides there was only one rule to the race, 'there are no rules'. When the race started, the turtle took of very slowly, soon the hare passed him. After sometime, the hare saw another turtle running in front of him. He was shocked. He thought it was Mr Turtle. He ran as fast as possible to over take the turtle. Towards the end of the race, he still saw the turtle running ahead of him, he ran as fast as possible to over take the turtle. This kept happening to him until the turtle crossed the finish line before him. The turtle was declared the winner of the race. This was surprising to the animals. No one had suspected that the turtle played smart on them. In this folktale, the turtle was able to win in the race against the hare because he was smart. The hare had put in all his effort and even exhusted himself, yet he still lost to a slow animal.

Folktale: why death? Death is an inevitable end. It is no doubt that we will all experience is death but nobody knows when it will come. The mere thought of death spread fear among people. People cannot help but ask the question why death. Nobody has an answer to this particular question. This article is not going to tell you about the death or why people die. I'm only here to give you an African folktale version of why people die and why death is a no respecter of person. It was said that at the early stage of life, there was nothing like sickness or death. god began to see that the Earth was getting filled up with people. He had to devise a way to reduce the population so that earth would accommodate more people. He had an angel called death. So he decided to death to go and pick souls from Earth. There was no specific instruction on which soul to pick. When death came down to Earth, he met a young lady and decided to pick her. The young lady was infuriated and said to death, "did you not see what the people to pick? What made you think that I'm ready to die? I still have my life to live. I am too young for this. Perhaps, you could find someone who is already tired of life and pick him or her. As for me, I still need to live my life. I will have to get married, have children and watch my children grow up to take care of me in my old age, before I think of following you back to wherever you came from". After the experience with the young lady, death decided to visit an old man. The old man said to him, "I have tried and suffered my whole life take care of my children. Now it's time for me to enjoy the fruits of their labour and you want to take me away? There is no way I'm following you. Life is better at old age. It is my time to enjoy so please go away. You can choose to take away young infants who have not experienced the struggles of life. At least you will save them the boredom of living in a Life full of sorrow". Death then approached an infant but the infant said to him, "I just came out to the world. there is no way I can follow you. I need to at least experience the joy of being on Earth before going back to wherever it is I came from". Saying that no one was willing to follow him back to God, they've decided that his mission was not possible we went to God and reported on his fruitless mission. God then instructed him to go back to Earth, stand on a pathwayand bring any soul he finds along the route to him. When death came back on his second mission, he met a bunch of people who were on their way to a party and try to capture their souls. This man caught him, bit into stupid and blinded him with a stick. Death became blind. When God so what has been done to death, he decided to make them invisible so that he would not be harmed by humans again. Out of anger for what had been done to him, death decided to take her revenge on mankind for what they had done to his eye. He began to go on a rampage taking any sold his hand touches. His ear became deaf to the pleads of humanity. This is why death is known as a non respecter of person. Thanks for reading ๐ `All images from Google`

Folktale: Taking what does not belong to you is theft and it is greatly discouraged. No one sees a person who is fond of taking other people's property and gives him a thumbs up. People tend to avoid those who are recognized as thieves. Like I've always said and keeps saying, African folktales aim at using captivating fictional stories to teach people morals. Not just African folktales but world folktales. There is a popular tale in my locality about theft. This tale was told using animals as characters. I guess animals and inanimate characters are mostly used in other to capture the attention of children. The main character of our tale today is a goat. The goat was a wild animal who made friends with the sly turtle. His family and friends kicked against this friendship because the turtle had a bad reputation. He was a great deceiver as well as a thief. He had the history of bringing doom to animals that dared make friends with him. He was simply a bad influence. The goat was too stubborn to listen to his family. He continued to be friends with the turtle. Besides the turtle had promised to make the goat's life more fun and enjoyable. Of all the animals in the kingdom, the turtle was the most fresh. Even though there was a hardship in the kingdom, he was never affected by it. the things that attracted the goat to the turtle. He wanted to get the turtles secret for remaining everfresh even in the face of hardship. The turtle promised to take him to places where he would feed without paying or without working for the food. The turtle began to take the goat to people's farm where they would eat and run away if the owner of the farm approaches. The goat was having the time of his life. He soon began to look fresh. Fresher than other goats. One day, the turtle decided to take the goat to a farmers yam barn. There was a little hole in the barn through which they entered. When they got to the barn, the Farmer was not around. The goat began to eat some here. Each time he raised his head, she would notice that the turtle was always eat a little bit and go out to the entrance hole. He will then come back to continue eating. The goat did not think much of this. He never knew that the turtle was always going to check if the hole could still size him after eating. The unsuspecting goat continued to eat until his stomach was about to burst. Soon the owner of the barn came home. He discovered some movements in the barn and decided to check it out. He had always had the problem of animals eating off his farm produce. He was lucky to have found them today. As he made to open the barn door, the turtle ran out through the hole. the goat who had eaten too much could not fit through the hole. His stomach was too big. As he was still struggling with the tiny hole, the camera caught up with him and used a rope to leash him to a pole. The repentant goat begged to be freed, what's the former paid no attention to him. He vowed to never let a go to go back home to his family. As a punishment, he began to feed the goats grass. From that moment onwards, goat became a domesticated animal against his will. The turtle that had introduced the goat into leading such a bad life abandoned him. He went back to the animal kingdom where he planned to continue deceiving with animals. so you see why it is important to always listen to the advice given to us by our family and friends. They always know what is best for us and try to put our interest first, but it is left for us to work with their instructions and advice. The gods met with his doom because he was too stubborn to listen. Also we should not let people deceive us. You should be wise enough to know who we need friends with and who we shouldn't make friends with. `All images from unsplash` Thanks for reading ๐

Folktale: Why the moon is halved and why the sun is too bright Hi everyone. Have you even looked up to the sky at night and wondered why the moon is usually split in half. Well each time I look up at the sky at night, I'm always filled with the memory of the childhood tale told to me by my grandma about why the moon usually appears in half. When the new Moon appears, it is usually crescent-shaped. As Time advances and before the full moon it begins to increase in size before outlet and gets to its circle-shaped size. There's always an African folktale as to why this occurs. Well science always has it's facts about the moon but this is just a folk tale told for the purpose of fun. The sun and the moon were once best of friends. Did it literally everything together. One day the moon decided to get an orphaned girl from Earth to be his house help. He was said to not be a good master. The poor girl was said to live in agony everyday as the moon maltreated her. She looked malnourished. On the other hand, the sun was nice to the little maid. Each time the moon sent the little girl to the sun's house to fetch fire for him, the sun will always give the girl a piece of roasted meat. She would eat it his hastily before going back home to the moon. After sometime, the sun came across another orphaned girl on Earth and decided to adopt her. He tweeted the girls so well that she looked so robust. Every day when the sun and the moon would go out to work, the two children with play together. This was a way of keeping each other company. The orphaned girl who stayed with the moon soon began to get jealous of the opharned the girl that stayed with the sun. She decided to run away from the moon's house. That day when the moon came back from his daily work of lighting the Earth, he could not find his little servant. He searched everywhere but she was nowhere to be found. He decided to go and complain to the sun. It was there that he discovered that day little girl had gone to stay with the sun. He was infuriated. Out of anger he picked a fight with the sun. Let's not forget that the moon has no light of its own. He always borrowed the little light he used for shining from the sun. So when he picked a fight with the sun, the sun decided to collect it's light from the Moon thereby rendering him powerless. He only left a little light for him so he could not shine brightly. Out of anger, the moon hit the sun with a broom. This caused the light that the sun had to scatter around him. In a bid to retaliate, the sun use the cutlass to cut the moon into two uneven parts. It is said that theincident of the fight between the sun and the moon is what the word mostly as the eclipse. After this incident, the sun and the moon became worst of enemies. They stopped working together. The sun will always come out during the day and the Moon will go into hiding. Because he did not have enough light, the moon will always feedback during the day to recharge himself before coming out at night. This was why the moon became halved and did not have enough light to shine on Earth. The sun became extremely bright because he had taken away the brightness of the Moon and added it to his own. This story sounds extremely childish but it was entertaining. Right? I do hope I was able to entertain you with this little folktale of mine. Go enjoy yourself and await more folktales from me. Folktales: disadvantage of greediness. In one way or the other, you must have seen people who have fallen victims to their only greediness as well as people who has fallen victims to other people's greediness. To be greedy is to always have the intent to covert things into your pocket. A greedy person always thinks of himself and what he would gain. Because greediness is not a good value, as it causes harm to people, it is discouraged. There's an African folktale that was coined for the purpose of warning people about the dangers of being greedy both to oneself and to the people around you. The folk tale of the greedy woman who chased god away from Earth. It goes like this. At the earliest time of life, the heavens and the earth we are super close to each other. It was such that a person standing on Earth could raise his hand and touch the sky. It was said that man could climb up to heaven to seek help from God. Even though the heavens was so close to Earth, the inhabitants of Earth still cultivated and toiled for whatever they ate. It remains so until a time when the habitats of a could not rely solely on the works of their labour to eat. They turned to God for help. In a bid to help them, God made the cloud edible. Soon, people stop spoiling for food and relied solely on cloud for food. Then came a time when God decided to make a pact with them on how cloud should be consumed. this was because he discovered that people began to take more than they could finish and ended up throwing away the rest. He gave the inhabitants of Earth the instruction that if they intend to rely on cloud as a source of food, the nobody is allowed to take more than he or she can finish for the day. The people of Earth agreed to his condition. There lived a woman on earth who was fond of wasting food. Even after the instruction given by God, she still continued to take more clouds than she could finish. This got God infuriated. He then send a message to earth threatening that if anybody ever takes more cloud that he could finish again, he will take the cloud away from them. The woman still felt that taking excess cloud was better for her. she thought that it would be better to always have extra cloud in the house even though she was not eating it. Besides it was a free gift that she did not have to pay for. The next day, the woman still wasted more cloud. Out of anger, God took the cloud away from Earth. The following day win people of Earth woke up, they discovered that the cloud was too high for their reach. They sent delegates to God to plead on their behalf. Because he could not afford to see the human starve, god decided to send the cloud back to them. The greedy woman still did not learn her lessons. She continue to waste the cloud. This time, she began to get triple what she could eat. Out of anger, God took the cloud farther away from the people. It was too high that delegates could not be sent to heaven anymore to plead for more cloud. The people of Earth knelt down and prayed to God to bring the cloud back to them but he never listened. Because of the greedy woman, man went back to toiling and struggling for what he would eat. I do not need to remind us that day today the cloud is still far away from us. It was the greedy nature of the woman in this folktale that led to God taking away the source of food that he had given man. So you see, the consequences of being greedy sometimes does not befall the person who has been greedy. It can affect the society. the people in the folktale had to pay the price of the greediness and stupidity of one woman. `All images are subject to Google` Thanks for reading ๐

Negligence: Proof of Consequential Damage In my previous articles, I wrote about the meaning of negligence and things that should be in place for the courts to recognise the existence of negligence. Today we will be moving on to the 3rd requirements which is the consequential damage. A plaintiff sues in negligence must establish that the defendant told him a duty of care. 2. The defendant was in breach of a duty of care and 3. The breach of the duty of care caused damage to the plaintiff. Once it is established that a duty of care is owed to the plaintiff and that the defendant is in breach of that date the plaintiff must then prove that he has suffered damage as a result of the breach. Consequential damage in its simplest meaning is the injury or harm suffered by the plaintiff as a result of the negligent act of the defendant. In looking at the consequential damage suffered by the plaintiff, the court would usually have a recourse to the causation of damage and remoteness of damage. causation of damage and remoteness of damage are concerned with the questions of whether damages may be recovered from the defendant for particular items of the plaintiff's loss. Causation of damage (causation in fact) it is only if the defendant's breach of Duty cause damage that he'll be liable to the plaintiff. It is not enough if the defendant admits to his carelessness as this in itself may not entitle the plaintiff to judgement unless he could show that his damage was caused by the admitted carelessness. sometimes it is a funny thing to determine whether the defendant's actions lead to damage suffered by the plaintiff. So they could applies the 'but-for' test to determine whether it was the defendant's breach of Duty that caused the damage. The 'but-for'test states that if the damage would not have occurred, but for the defendant's negligence, then his negligence is the cause of the damage sustained by the plaintiff. But if the damage would have occurredd anyway, then the defendant's negligence is not the cause and the defendant will not be liable in negligence. An example of a case where the but for test was used was the case of Barnett vs Chelsea and Kensington Hospital Management Committee. The plaintiff's husband was taken to the defendants hospital when he complained of vomiting after drinking tea. The doctor was called by nurses on duty by telephone but he told them to go home and consult another doctor in the morning. Later that same day, the plaintiff's husband died of arsenic poisoning. In failing to examine the deceased, the doctor was negligent and in breach of his duty of care, but the breach was not the cause of the death, because even if the plaintiff's husband had been examined and treated with proper care, the probability was that it would have been impossible to save his life. The 'but-for'test is just an aid sister the ultimate cause of damage to a plaintiff can be evaluated with common sense. Sometimes the circumstances surrounding the case is enough to tell weather the plaintiff's injury had been caused by the defendant's breach of Duty. Remoteness of damage After determining the issue of causation, the court looks at the question, "for what consequences would a defendant be held liable?" The consequences of a man's conduct may be endless but then his liability cannot be endless. Example, if you negligently pour water on someone, Jordan 12 you the water has been polluted by acid and the person receives burns. You have to take the person to the hospital. When he was in the hospital, someone explode a bomb and the person whom you had injured loses his leg due to the bomb blast. You are pouring contaminated water the person was out of negligence, but for which of the series of consequence you need to be held responsible? This is the problem of remoteness of damage. The answer to those questions is that, if a reasonable man would have foreseen any damage to the plaintiff as likely to result from his act, then he is liable for all the direct consequences of it suffered by the plaintiff. This means that from the example I gave above, you will only be held liable for pouring water containing acid on the plaintiff. It was unforeseen that the hospital would be bombed thereby leading to other series of consequences. a defendant does not need to force see all the details of the injury before he is held liable in negligence. it is enough that a proper thinking person in the society knows that this is the likely consequence of such an act committed by the defendant. I Hughes vrs Lord Advocate, post office workers open the manhole in the street and in the evening left the open manhole covered by a tent, unattended but surrounded by warning kerosene lamps. The plaintiff, an eight-year-old boy, took one of the lamps into the tentand while playing with it they stumbled over it and the lamp fell into the manhole. There was a violent explosion which caused by severe injuries. The post office workers we are headliner bill because they should have anticipated that boys of that age might take a lamb into that shelter and that this might lead to severe damage. Sometimes, it is immaterial that the kind of damage suffered was not foreseen by the defendant. most times it lies in the discretion of the court to determine forseability of damage stop. What's the plane ticket able to prove that the injury he suffered as a direct consequence of the defendant's breach of Duty, then he has discharge himself of his burden. The burden then shifts to the defendant to prove that he was not negligent. Thanks for reading ๐
Negligence: Breach of Duty of Care Like I said in my previous article,a person seeking redress in negligence must show that the person sued is in breach of duty of care owed to him. The person must first of all establish that a duty of care is owed to him. That was where our last topic was centred on. today I would like to talk about the breach of the duty of care which is the second thing that the court considers in treating negligence cases. A plaintiff seeking redress in negligence can show breach of Duty of Care by showing that the defendants did not exercise reasonable care in the matter that is called to question. The court of appeal stated in Adesun vs Adisa that 'where negligence is alleged, the plaintiff must set out or give full particulars of the negligence'. Remember that a person is in breach of duty of care if he he does something which a reasonable man would not do or he omits to do something which a reasonable man would do. 'A reasonable man' is an expression used to show a a person of normal intelligence with average knowledge and common sense in everyday matters. so it is not enough to show that you are acting to the best of your own judgement if your base is below what is expected of a reasonable man or a man of normal intelligence. For example, in the case of Paris vs Stepney Borough Council, a workman who to the knowledge of the employer had only one good eye was not provided with Google's for his work and so suffered an injury that cost the loss of his only could eye. It will be seen that a reasonable man who is employing a one-eyed workman should know that goggles should be provided for him to avoid injuries or damage to the good eye. the standard of a reasonable man for one who has a skill is such that he is judged by the degree of skill normally showed by specialists in that field. anything short of that would lead to breach of his duty of care to others who are likely to be injured by his mistake. If a person holds himself out as having the scale of a carpenter or a bricklayer, he will be expected to show the average level of competence normally possessed by persons doing that kind of job or work. Liability will arise if he falls short of that standard. In the case of Jones vs Manchester Corp, where a patient died after the mall administration of anaesthetic by a doctor qualified for only 5 months, it was held that arose due to inexperience are no defence. It should be noted that liability is not always straight on people who are negligent. Mistakes are bound to occur. The facts all circumstances surrounding each case determines whether defendants are held liable in negligence. An example is the case of Roe vs Minister of Health. In this case, the plaintiff was paralysed after receiving an injection in hospital. That happened because phenol had leaked into the syringe. At that time it was not known that phenol could get into the syringe true invisible cracks. the court held that the defendants we are not negligence as they could not have avoided the accident, judged by the standards of a reasonable person at that time. The standard of care may sometimes be affected by state of emergency or a dilemma. an arc done in the agony of the moment may be quite reasonable, even though might be otherwise, had there been time for reflection. In Jones vs Boyce, a passenger in a coach which got out of control, reasonably feared that it was about overturned, so he jumped off and broke his leg. The coach did not in fact overturn. The court heard that his conduct was reasonable in the agony of the moment. In all cases, it is seen that in order to not be in breach of your duty of care to others, one needs to act like a reasonable man in all circumstances. In whatever you do, make sure you do not always overreact honey whatever skill you have, try to put in your best and avoid errors in it so that if eventually someone gets injured, to be defended by the fact that you put out more scare into what you did. I guess we will cut it here and continue from where we stopped last time. It was nice having you Thanks for reading ๐ `Check out my wonderful sponsors`
Negligence: Duty of Care Meaning of negligence: the term negligence was defined by Lord Alderson, B in Blyth vs Birmingham water works Ltd as 'the omission to do something which a reasonable man guided up on these considerations which ordinarily regulate the conduct of human affairs will do or doing something which a prudent and reasonable man would not do'. Generally speaking, negligence is the omission of failure to do something which a reasonable man under similar circumstances would do or doing something which a reasonable and prudent man would not do. So for negligence occur, three things must occur. 1. Their must by existence of duty to take care. 2. the existence of that duty to take care must be breached. 3. there must be damage as a result of the breach of that duty to take care. Because negligence is a wide topic, we will focus today on duty of care. The next topic would be on breach of the duty to take care Existence of Duty of Care A man may not be held liable or responsible for every careless act he does even if the act causes damage to another person. He will only be held liable if and only if a legal duty of care can be established. You owe a person a duty of care if your action or omission can lead to damage to that other person. For example if your driving recklessly on the road would lead to injury to another road user, then you owe a duty of care to that road user. In order for you to carry out this your duty of care to the road user, you need to exercise extra care to make sure that your conduct on the road does not cause harm to the person. But if you owe no duty of care to anybody, then you are entitled to be as reckless as you want to be. Another typical example is seeing an injured man on the road. You owe him no duty of care, so you can choose to walk away without being held liable for whatever happens to the person. But if you choose to help the person, then you owe him a duty to make sure that to do not leave him worse than he was when you decided to help. Let's use the image above as n example. It is obvious that the lady has gone to help the injured guy. She could have walked away because she owed no duty to him but since her conscience has made her decide to be of help, she now owes the injured man a duty to see that he will not sustain further injury resulting from her mismanagement else she would be liable to him Any person claiming that another has been negligent to him must first of all establish that the defendant owes him a duty of care. The claimant must show that his injury or loss what is a results of the defendant breaching his duty of care to him. As noted by Lord Esher in Le Liovre vs Gould, 'the question of liability for negligence cannot arrive at all until it is established that the man who has been negligent old some duty to the person who seeks to make him liable for the negligence full-stop a man is entitled to be as negligence as he pleases towards the whole world if he owed no duty to them'. Duty of care is measured using the standard of what a reasonable man ought to or ought not to do. the manufacturer of goods or a duty of care to the ultimate consumer to ensure that when the goods is used in the normal way the product does not cause injury to the consumer. Like why is an employer owes a duty of care to provide adequate equipment and a safe system of working for the employees. An owner of a domestic animal with dangerous propensity ows a duty of care to people who are likely to be injured by the animals, so he has to exercise extra care to ensure that his or her animals does not cause harm to the public. In the popular case of Donoghue vs Stevenson, a manufacturer of ginger beer so ginger beer in an opaque bottle to a retailer. the boy bought the bottle of the ginger beer from the retailer and treated his girlfriend to its contents. The girl alleged that she suffered gastritis as a result of seeing and drinking the contaminated contents of the beer manufactured by the defendants full stop the ginger beer contained decomposed remains of a snail. The House of Lords heard that the manufacturer hold a duty of care to ensure that the bottle did not contain noxious matters under the content of his production does not cause damage two people who are likely to consume it. It was in that case that the neighborhood principle was proposed by Lord Atkin. According to him, 'the role that you are to love your neighbour becomes in law that you must not injure your neighbour...your neighbour is any person or persons who are so closely and directly affected by your acts that you also reasonably have them in contemplacion as being so affected when you are directing your mind to the actor or omission which are called in question'. When determining duty of care, the court put into consideration what is and what is not public policy. It is against public policy for a client to Sue his lawyer for negligence in conducting his defence in court. So also is it wrong for a duty of care to be old or to exist between participants in a crime full stop in Ashton vs Turner, three thieves we are making a get away in a car owned by one of them and driven by another whose reckless driving cost injury to one of them. It was held that the plaintiff was hold no duty of care by his friend and so could not recover in negligence because the circumstances surrounding his injury was illegal and against public policy. Sometimes, common sense determines the scope of our duty of care to others. For example, if A hits B with his vehicle causing B to be hospitalized. The hospital gets robbed and B's injury is worsened on his attempt to escape, A would only be held liable for knocking B down and nothing more. He will not be held liable for the further injury in the hospital. One owes a duty of care to others if his inability to act well will result to damage to them. For a plaintiff to succeed in an action for negligence, he must first of all prove that the defendant owes him a duty of care. To be continued `All images from Google` Thanks for reading ๐

Elephant and the turtle It is said that he who allows a friend to lead him to his doom is a fool. The story of the elephant who wholeheartedly trusted a turtle to the point of his destruction teaches us to be careful who we trust. Betrayals can come at anytime. The elephant and the turtle were best of friends. They did literally everything together. The elephant would always tell the turtle everything about himself but the wise turtle never said anything about himself to the elephant. It would be said that the turtle knows the in and out of the elephant. The elephant was the most seeked animal in the human kingdom, so in order to avoid being captured by them, the elephant keeps his dwelling place a secret. Only the turtle knew where he lived. The human kingdom had a king whose daughter was ripe for marriage. The young lady had rejected all her suitors. She claimed that she needed a strong man. The criteria she gave for marriage was that anyone that can bring a live elephant to her would be her husband. The elephant would be used to prepare a banquet for her wedding. The turtle who was interested in the princess decided to try his luck but was rejected by her. He then went to the king and said to him, "fix a banquet in your kingdom and I will bring a live elephant as a gift to your daughter on that day. If I fail to do as I've said, kill me". The king fixed the banquet. On the day of the banquet, the turtle went to elephant's home and said to him, "the humans has decided to recognize you as a Chief in their kingdom. They have fixed a banquet for you today, and you would be the chairman of the feast". Because the elephant trusted him, he decided to attend the banquet. While they were still on their way to the king's palace, the turtle proposed that a rope be attached to the elephant's neck. He claimed that he would hold on to the rope and climb to the elephant's back. The elephant accepted. The turtle mounted the elephant's back and also attached a rope to his neck. When they got to the palace, the turtle said to the king, "your majesty, I've brought the priced elephant for your daughter". The elephant then asked him, "Mr Turtle, who did you say you have brought for the princess?" The turtle replied, "worry not my friend. You must have misheard me. I only said that the priced elephant would be the chief of today's occasion". The elephant believed him. It was when the elephant was taken to the kitchen and surrounded by butchers that he realized that he had been betrayed by his dearest friend the turtle. It was too late for him to escape his fate. The turtle was not remorseful for what he had done to his friend. He happily married the princess and the banquet went as planned. This story teaches us to not be blinded by trust. It is not a bag thing to trust people but do so with some sense. Trusting too much has led a lot of people to their doom. Know the friend's you keep and be wary of whom you put you trust in. `All images are from Google` Thanks for reading ๐

Why do bats come out only at night In African folktales, bats are used to refer to people who are two faced. Whenever there is conflict, a two faced person does not pick a side. He supports the winning party. The folktale of why the bat comes out only at night tells the story of a big conflict in the animals kingdom. The conflict was as a result of the struggle for who would rule the kingdom. A meeting was held for this deliberation. The land animal and the flying animals were in attendance. The birds of the air felt that they would make better leaders since they could oversee the kingdom when flying. The land animals disagreed with this. They felt that they were more wise than the birds. In their opinion, they existed before the birds of the air and so should be the rulers. Because the animals could not agree on a choice of leadership, the meeting ended with a war declaration. The birds of the air declared war against the land animals. Bat was one of the flying animals. He did not support the birds neither did he support the land animals. This was because he had friends among the land and the flying animals. When the land animals held meetings to plan theirs war strategy, the bat would always come to them and share the secret of the birds. Also, when the birds held meetings, the bat would sell the secrets of the land animals to them. He was simply a supporter of both parties. His plan was that if any party won in the war, he would join them as a permanent supporter. Much to the bat's surprise, the land animals and the birds of the air came to a truce. They decided to stop the war because they came to the understanding that a king was not really needed for the kingdom to progress. They needed peace and understanding. After the war had been stopped, the animals decided to hold a meeting to show their solidarity to each other. It was in the course of that meeting that the bat's role in the war was revealed. The birds decided that the bat can not be identified as one of them since he had betrayed them. Seeing that he had been deserted by the birds of the air, the bat turned to the land creatures but was rejected by them as well. He was chased out of the meeting. Every day, the bat would come out to fly around with other birds but they would chase him away. He would then fly down to stay with the land creatures but would also be chased away. Because he had been rejected, he would stay indoors during the day and come out only at night when he was sure that other creatures mist have gone to bed. The story of the rejected bat is used as a moral story of teaching us to not let ourselves be objects of deceits to others. Do not be two faced otherwise who knows if you would be rejected like the unfortunate bat `All images are subject to Google` Thanks for reading ๐

Folktale: Moving on with Life Have you heard the story of the depressed mother lark and the chicken? It is a folktale that is aimed at teaching us to always pick up the pieces of our lives and move on. Everyone experience hardships and testing times but what matters most is the ability to not move on and not let yourself be swallowed by your trials and temptations. The folktale of the depressed Lark tells the story of a mother lark who had two babies. Her babies were her world. The tree she lived on was not the safest for her babies. This was because the fox and other animals that fed on little creatures always roamed about the tree. To make sure that her babies were safe, the mother lack would always tell them whenever she was going out to never let anyone into the house unless she was the one. One day when the mother Lark had gone out to find food for her babies, a cunning fox showed up and knocked on the door. The baby larks refused to open the door. The fox then told them that the mother Lark had sent him and that she had to run an urgent errand out of town. The baby larks were convinced and so opened the door for the sly fox who ate them. When the mother Lark came home, it was already too late. Her babies had been eaten by the sly fox. She was depressed and so locked herself in her nest and refused to come out. Other animals came to console her but she shut them out. She would tell her comforters, "go away. Life had been more bitter to me than it has been to you. So please leave me to my sorrows". Her comforters began to share stories of the bitterness life has shown them but she chased them away. She also refused to eat anything. When the mother hen heard about mother Lark's misfortune, she decided to go and comfort her but was chased away by the Lark. Mother hen then decided to tell her own story to the Lark. "Mother Lark" she called, "did you know that I lost five children?" "And you are still here?" asked mother Lark. "How did you loose them?" The mother hen began to tell her story, "I hatched five chicks. A hawk took one and it remained four. I wailed and shouted but he never brought the chick back. A herbalist stole another and it remained three. I wailed and shouted but he never brought the chick back. My owner took another chick. I wailed and shouted but he never brought the chick back. The two remaining chicks were also taken by the sly fox. All these experiences weighed me down but I had to keep moving. Life must go on my dear Lark". After heard the story of how mother hen lost her chicks, mother Lark discovered that life has also been hard on others. They just kept moving on. Thus she wiped her tears and decided to move on with her life. I would also like to use this opportunity to appreciate @Mictorrani for sponsoring me. Folktale:why the tortoise shell looks cracked If you haven't seen a turtle in real life, you must have seen it in pictures. Have you wondered why it's shell looks like it has been glued together? I think African folktales has an answer to this question. There was once a time when the turtles shell was smoother than the human skin. He even took pride in the beauty of his spotless shell. All these changed long ago when the heavenly beings still interacted face to face with man and animals. During that time, Mr. Turtle was known for his cunning behaviour. He made friends with the heavenly beings. He would always invite them to his house for feasts but they had never invited them for any. This was because they knew he had no means of coming to heaven. He had no wings. Then there came a time in the animal kingdom when hunger struck. Animals began to suffer from lack of food and water. Mr. Turtle was not left out. So he decided to ask his heavenly friends for help. They decided to invite him to a marriage party. In other to attend the heavenly party, Mr. Turtle made a deal with some hungry birds. They would each lend him a feather to enable him fly to heaven and in exchange, they would follow him to the feast. On the day of the heavenly feast, the birds lent feathers to Mr. Turtle and they all flew together to heaven. While they were still on the way to heaven, Mr Turtle who did not want to share any food with the birds devised a trick on how to cheat them. He told the birds that any animal going to heaven is supposed to have a unique name. It is with that name that they would be identified in heaven. The birds chose their unique names. Mr. Turtle chose to be identified as "All Of You". According to him, the name "All Of You" was what his heavenly friends knew him as. When they got to the venue of the heavenly feast. They were all led to the seats reserved for earth creatures. When drinks was served, Mr Turtle asked the server, "please who exactly is this drink for?". He got the reply, "it is for all of you". He then turned to the birds and said, "you all heard the waiter, this drink is for 'all of you'. And as you all know, I'm the only one identified by that name". He advised the birds to wait for their own drinks. He drank everything alone. He still repeated the same thing when other things were served to the group. He ended up eating everything and leaving the birds hungry. When it was time to go, the hungry birds decided to take back the feathers they had lent Mr Turtle. He pleaded with them to let him get home first before returning the feathers bit they refused. They told him to fly home with the food and drinks that he alone had consumed. They left him and went home. Mr Turtle's heavenly friends were unable to help him because they were too busy with their party. He had no other option but to call out to his wife who was on earth. Mrs. Turtle was drying clothes under the sun when she heard her husband call from heaven. He told her to bring out all the soft things in the house and keep for him so that he would fall on them. Because of the distance between heaven and earth, she could hear was to bring out all the hard tools in the house. When Mr Turtle fell from heaven, he fell on various hard objects instead of the soft things he expected. The impact of the fall was too much on his shell, so it broke into pieces. Folk tale: Animal kingdom Long ago in the animal kingdom, there was famine. Then, no animal ate each other and none had the intention of doing so. There was also no king in the kingdom. The fox began to think of ways of gaining food. It occurred to him that the only way to survive the famine was to prey on the weak animals. So he called a meeting of all animals. In the meeting, he proposed that he should be made the ruler of all animals. He promised to remove hunger by allowing the animals to prey on each other. Prior to this meeting, he had met most of his evil friends who had promised to support him and to punish anyone that refuses to support him. So when the monkey's rose to say that they were not in support of Mr. Fox's intention, they were chased away by the supporters of Mr. Fox. To save their lives, they ran up different trees and refused to come down. That is why monkeys live on trees till today. Out of fear, other animals could not oppose Mr. Fox. He became the king of the animals in that community. Soon, he began to cause havoc in the kingdom. Everyday, he would come out to the community center and begin to challenge different animals to fight with him. When the animal comes out to fight him, he would use trickery to kill the animals and take the meat home to his family. Every animal in the kingdom soon became afraid of his underhanded way of doing things. The weak animals began to stay indoors all the time for fear of being killed by Mr. Fox or his evil supporters. When Mr. Fox learnt that all the animals were avoiding him, he began to conduct house to house visitation. Any animal he visits, he would kill and take the meat home or share with his supporters. When all these things were happening in the kingdom, Mr. Dog was not around. He had gone to another kingdom to make money. He came back to the kingdom in the midst of this conflict to be informed by his wife that Mr. Fox was now a dictator in the kingdom. His wife also told him in tears that Mr. Fox has demanded to fight with him. This meant his death. All these did not bother Mr. Dog. He was still grieving the fact that his journey to hustle in another kingdom turned out to be in vain. He had purchased some bags of salt with hopes of selling them to make enough money for his family but a heavy rain befell him on the road. The whole salt melted from the rain. He lost his investment. He sat down in front of his compound to think about his loss. As he was deep in thought, he spotted Mr. Fox who was on his way to fight a poor old goat. This got him annoyed and so he challenged Mr. Fox to a fight. His intention was to stop the evil reign of Mr. Fox and bring freedom back to the remaining animals in the kingdom. On the day of the fight, Mrs. Dog cried bitterly on the thought that she would loose her husband but to her surprise, Mr. Dog killed the might Mr. Fox. Mr. Dog was able to achieve this victory because his strength was fuelled by the anger of loosing his investments as well as the anger of loosing his friends to the evil hands of Mr. Fox. When the other animals saw that Mr. Dog had won in the life and death challenge, they were filled with fear. They thought that since Mr. Fox had made their life hard, anyone who was able to kill him would make their lives a living hell. They ran away from the kingdom and are now what we know as wild animals. The weaker animals that could not afford to run away from the kingdom stayed back to celebrate with Me. Dog over their freedom. They are what we know now as the domestic animals. Mr. Dog did not intend to be a ruler, so he told every animal to live as they liked as he would not interfere in their lives. This is why he is man's best friend. Because he is compassionate and lovely. Thanks for reading ๐ `Images are subject to Google`
