Since we heard the news that my uncle was already discharged in the hospital after his head surgery, I invited the whole gang; my family, to visit him. He lives in Marikina which was close to Riverbanks. Marikina has been trending this couple of months because of its tunnel of light, I got interested. Since we will be visiting my uncle there, I decided to go there as a sidetrip.
Going at my uncle's house took us at least an hour and half. Good thing we avoided the rush hour. When we got to there, it was still daylight so waited until the sun is down so that we get to experience the view at Riverbanks as what we saw online. We don't know what to expect there but we were advised by my uncle that there were a lot of people visiting the place. He's not joking a bit!
When we reached the Riverbanks Arcade, we were welcomed by a crowd of people. We were planning to backout but since we're already there we decided to take a look at Riverbanks itself, the biggest mistake we've made. On the way there, we passed the food park, which I would say was full of people. We don't even get a chance to roam and check the available food because of how crowded the place is.
Reaching Marikina's Riverbank, my family and I were shocked. If you think the food park is crowded, then wait till you see Riverbank.
I thought there was a scheduled concert that will happen or a firework display, but there's none! I guess, families longed for picnics and get together and was bored on staying at home, so they took this opportunity to take the kids with them, now that they are allowed outside. Safety protocol was not observed in the place. You can see at the picture that social distancing is a word unknown to this place. I honestly regretted going here with my family. I felt like I just risk our lives, so it should be a warning to you. Do not go to Riverbanks, not unless you have something important to do. It is not worth it and it is super risky, given the pandemic situation we have until now.
The tunnel that was full of Christmas lights, was not even worth the sacrifice. It was small and just ordinary. Nothing really special to die for. We didn't go inside since the line was too loooong. Good thing that there were guides at both sides, to control the crowd that will go inside.
Overall, we were just happy to visit our uncle and his family. It was good that he is slowly healing from his surgery. Prayers be with him for his fast recovery. And again, I will stand in my opinion that you should not go to Riverbanks, Marikina. Do not believe on how beautiful the pictures were on social media. Maybe they were shot before the place became popular online. Stay safe and avoid people.
Closing words
As you can see, the social distancjng happening is by groups HAHAHA. The ones who go together are not observing the proper distancing. I cannot blame them though because there are not a lot of space.
It is a good thing that I opted not to go with them and instead I spent the whole cuddling with Moshi HAHA. I kinda miss going out though.
