Managed to grab one of Ipoh's famous dessert before heading home.
Taufufa 豆腐花 is a Chinese dessert made of soybean. Or similarly known as soybean pudding. It has a silky, smooth texture and has a natural soybean fragrance.
Since taufufa is usually made without sugar, we can opt to add white sugar syrup/black sugar syrup/ginger syrup/soybean milk as a topping to make it sweeter.
I'm personally a soybean fan, so I chose soybean milk as the topping. Taufufa is one of my kinda dessert as it is nutritious and not too overly sweet. Yumsss 😋
Was at Ipoh for a friend's wedding last weekend. This is the only dish I managed to capture all night as everyone was very hungry after the long jam. Haha.
Apparently, this is one of the top Chinese restaurant in Ipoh that caters for wedding and it is famous for its food. Its called Pusing Public Seafood Restaurant 民众酒家.
This is the starter where it consists of few dishes in this beautifully decorated plate. They use lemons, cucumber, and radish (with some red coloring also i guess) to decorate the dishes. With the bright red, yellow, and green surrounding the plate, the overall dish presentation looks very vibrant!
One of my favourite from this dish is the fried scallop with dried prawns and asparagus (the dish at the bottom left). So flavorful and good! 😋
Wish i took more photos of other delicious dishes of the night too. But too late, it's all in my stomach now 🤣.
A driving journey that was supposed to be 2.5 hours got extended to 6+ hours yesterday! Turns out, its because this week is a long weekend due to a public holiday on Monday + its also school holidays. Hence the crazy jam. 😪
Me and my friends started the journey at 10am, and only managed to reach Ipoh around 4.15pm for our lunch. I was so hungry! 😭
This is the lunch I had at a food court near Ipoh Parade yesterday - Claypot Yee Mee soup 🍜! It was simple yet so good!!! 😋 The soup and yee mee noodles tasted nicer than what I usually had in KL (pretty sure it wasn't because I was hungry 😂).
It has a variety of ingredients too. E.g fish paste, prawns, pork balls, slices of chicken breast, vege and egg. With the price of RM7.50, i think this is really a good bowl of Yee Mee noodles.
Thank you Jesus for the simple yet comforting food to my growling tummy! ❤
Once in a blue moon, I'll treat myself something I like to eat. Today, its a bowl of poke bowl. Although its not the usual shop I usually buy from, but this is near to my house, so delivery won't cost a bomb. 😄
According to Google, a poke bowl is a Hawaiian dish that is deeply rooted in Japanese cuisine. “Poke” means “cut into pieces” and the name refers to the slices or cubes of raw fish that are served in a bowl along with rice, dressing, vegetables and seasonings.
My poke bowl consists of green lettuce, diced omelette, edamame (immature soybean), sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, tobiko (fish roe), seaweed flakes, sesame dressing and my all-time favourite, fresh salmon ❤.
Anyone likes salmon sashimi like me too? 🙋🏻♀️😄
Had an evening walk to get some fresh air after quarantine-ing in the room for almost a week.
Whenever I pass by the back lane of the houses in the evening, I'll get to hear the children playing the piano, the cooking wok sound, the smell of dinner's food, and sometimes the smell of shampoo too (cause it's near the toilet). The smell of a home 🏡😄.
Found this beautiful flower in my neighbour's house while strolling earlier. Simple and elegant in colour and shape. It's called Frangipani or Plumeria in English. Bunga Kemboja in Bahasa Melayu. 🌼
Lunch errands for today🍴🚗
Packed Taiwanese Braised Pork rice for the guys and Taiwanese Oyster Vermicelli for the ladies.
Since my entire household is down with covid 😷, I had to do reverse quarantine in my room for the past week.
Aside from the inconvenience of not being able to freely move around the house, I'm doing pretty good. No symptoms developed so far.
May it continue to be so for the next few days! Amen! 💪
I bought this jigsaw puzzle as a souvenir for myself when I visited Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany back in 2018. 🏰
I remembered the castle's souvenir shop sells the same puzzle with other backgrounds too e.g. winter and summer. But I bought the autumn version because I wanted to remember I visited this beautiful place in autumn. 🍁🍂
But life got busy after that, I almost forgot that I bought this. Until recently, I finally had the time and space to do it. It's my first time solving a jigsaw puzzle 🧩.
Surprisingly, it was quite therapeutic! I enjoyed myself a lot. It took me 2 days to complete this 500 pieces puzzle.
I was curious as to why solving a jigsaw puzzle can be this therapeutic. Then I googled and realised it actually has many benefits e.g. relieving stress, increasing in production of Dopamine every time we put a piece in the right place, improving mood etc.
No wonder! What a great discovery for myself. Not sure if this works for everyone, maybe you can try it and let me know too😉.
Had a plate of Som Tam the other day.
It reminds me of the Thailand trip I went back in 2018, and my friend brought us to try out the local Som Tam. It was my first time trying it and I remembered it tasted really good! Sweet, sour, savoury all on point!
Som Tam is a Thai style of Papaya Salad. It uses green papaya (unripe papaya) and is usually added with palm sugar, long beans, shredded carrots, chillies, tomato cubes, lime juice, tamarind juice, fish sauce, dried shrimp and peanuts.
So when I saw this at the hawker stall the other day, I suddenly craved for it.
The first mouthful in, it was fresh, crunchy.... and suddenly... FIREEEEE burning on my tongue! 🔥👅They added too many chillies!!! 🌶🌶🌶
After which, my tongue is numb and I couldn't feel anything else aside from the spiciness. No sour, no sweetness, no savoury. Just PURE SPICYNESS. 😂
I thought to pack it back home to save it (It was RM10 per plate 😭). I added more sugar, in an effort to "reduce the spiciness". But to no avail. It is still VERY spicy. No one at home couldn't stand the spiciness, not even my mum who has a higher tolerance for spicy food.
I managed to eat 30% of it. But too bad I had to throw the rest away... 😅
It's comforting to the tummy to have a warm bowl of noodles in a cold rainy day. The central part of West Malaysia, KL and Selangor, has rained the whole day since morning. ☔
This reminds me of a meal I had with a friend at Yun Noodles sometime ago.
The white soup in the picture is the original broth with Bursting Pork Ball. It has vegetables like corns, pak choy, slices of tomatoes, bean curd slices, and preserved vegetables in it. Taste wise, its milky and savoury.
Meanwhile, the red soup is the tomato broth with Australian Ribeye Beef Slices. It has similar vegetables as the milky white noodle soup. Taste wise is towards the sourish side.
Both tasted like homemade comfort food. Nice bowl to have on a rainy day. 😊
Simple happiness is someone treats you an ice cream! 🍦
It was a scorching hot day at my grandparents place, and my aunt decided to surprise all of us with a ice-cream treat. Wohooo! 🥳
Ordered a plate of fried Char Kuey Teow at Lok Lok street the other day and it tasted so good!
Char kuey teow is a rice noodle dish stir fried over high heat with garlic, light and dark soy sauce, chilli paste, prawns, cockles, chopped Chinese chives, slices of Chinese sausage, fishcakes and bean sprouts.
Though it is quite a small portion for the price, the dish is super packed with flavours - savoury, spicy and full of WOK HEI!
Wok hei is a Cantonese phrase used to describe a particular essence and aroma that is created in a dish when authentic stir-frying is performed. “Hei” =“energy” or “breath”; Therefore, “wok hei” = “the energy or breath of a wok”. Quite an abstract term isn't it? Haha! It's not an easy term to understand until you've tried it yourself.
There are plenty of Char Kuey Teow (CKT) stalls everywhere, but not many places cook a good Char Kuey Teow. Haha if I ever crave a good CKT, I'll definitely visit this stall again!
And by the way, Char Kuey Teow is easily one of the Top 5 famous Malaysian food. Make sure you order one if you ever come to Malaysia! :D
Simply joy in life is when someone remember things that mattered to you. :)
Recently, a friend of mine brought me a t-shirt that reminds her of my song "You are enough". It was a song I wrote back in 2016 about how God loves me just the way as i am and how I will always be enough for Him.
Thanks for the random and thoughtful gift @pinkjadeite! Love it very much ❤
Finally had the chance to bring my cousins to the Lok Lok street near my place. So happened I was craving for it too!
Lok lok means "to dip" in Cantonese. It is street food on a food truck where various meat and vegetables are skewered on sticks. You can either dip it into the hot boiling water or fry it to make your food cooked. The dipping option is self-service. Meanwhile, for the frying option, the food truck owner will usually fry it with a layer of seasoning powder to make the food tastier.
Broccoli, seafood tofu, cockles, Taiwan sausage and squid are among the items we chose. My cousin particularly loves fried broccoli. It is also the first time I tried it. It tasted not bad actually! Haha, new discovery!
But the price has increased so much. I remember I used to get RM0.80 - RM1+ per stick years back. Now, the cheapest is RM2.90 per stick and most are RM3 and above haha. Not sure if it's just my area, I shall scout other areas' Lok Lok food trucks to survey the price. Haha
Nevertheless, the food is still yummy and everyone enjoys the food! 😋

Had a good plate of Char-Siew (barbecued pork) and Siu Yok (roasted pork) a few days ago!
This has got to be my family's first-go-to-easy-to-pack-meal at hawker stalls. Almost all non-halal food court in Malaysia has this one stall that sells Char-Siew and Siu Yok. Both are Chinese dish and it is usually paired with a bowl of rice or noodles.
Char-Siew (barbecued pork - the one with sauce on top in the picture) has a savoury sweet taste due to ingredients like honey. I usually order a "half-meat-half-fat" cut (meaning the meat comes with some fats. Not lean meat). This way, I can still enjoy the juiciness of the fat and the overall texture of the meat won't get too dry while consuming.
Meanwhile, Siu Yok (roasted pork) is usually seasoned overnight with ingredients such as cooking wine, sugar, salt, and five-spice powder. It is then roasted in a charcoal furnace at a high temperature. Siu Yok is my all-time favourite as I like the brown crispy skin and tender meat! Yumssss! 😋
What a simple, easy-to-get, and hearty meal! :)

Finding little ways to make my mum happy.
My family is not very fond of celebrating special occasions. Not even on birthdays. I think part of it is because my parents don't get to / can't afford to be celebrated / pampered like this in their younger days. So buying things for them will get myself scolded for "wasting money" sometimes. 😅 But it has improved over the years.
She was shocked, yet very happy to receive my little gift. Till giving me a flying kiss (in front of my relatives that're also present in the house lol). So embarrassing. 🥴😂
Although its just a stalk of red carnation,
Happy Mother's Day mummy.
You are not perfect, but i will always love you. :)

Throwback to Kuala Terengganu trip #7
This is one of the views I get to see at one of the homestays we stayed on our trip.
The beach is just right beside the house, like literally 15 steps away from the main entrance door. ❤️
Woke up early the next morning to capture this. Such a serene beach and beautiful sunrise. Hope to visit the beach again soon! :)
Throwback to Kuala Terengganu trip #6
Nasi Dagang is a much simpler dish compared to Nasi Kerabu. It is a Malaysian dish consisting of rice steamed in coconut milk, protein options such as fish curry or fried chicken, and topped with vegetables such as pickled cucumber and carrots.
It's my first time trying Nasi Dagang. While planning for the food itinerary, I was thinking since I'm already here on the east side of Malaysia, I might as well try the "original" Nasi Dagang.
Turns out not a bad choice! I like how fragrant the rice is. It has a slight salty taste and it smells a lot more fragrant than the rice I usually had in Nasi Lemak. The picked vegetables are preserved in just the right amount of sourness too.
Such a simple traditional dish triggers the nostalgic memories of the local people here. They have 3 branches in Kuala Terengganu city alone! Imagine the popularity, considering the population in this laid-back city. We went there at 8.30 am and there's already a long queue!😄
Throwback to Kuala Terengganu trip #5
Nasi Kerabu is one of the local delicacies that I get to try on this trip.
Its a Malaysian cuisine rice dish, where Nasi means rice and Kerabu means raw salad. One of the unique features of this dish is the blue rice, which is naturally coloured by butterfly pea flowers.
It is served with protein choices e.g. salted fish, salted egg, grilled meat, or fried chicken. And the topping is a combination of finely-shredded fresh raw vegetables/edible leaves/herbs such as bean sprouts, long beans, cabbages, cucumber slices, daun kesum (Vietnamese mint), and daun kadok (betel leaf). The common condiments used are budu, which is a type of fermented fish sauce and kerisik ikan (coconut fish flakes).
Very interesting combination of ingredients, aren't they?
All these packed together = savoury, fragrant and appetising dish! Yumsss! 😋
Nasi Kerabu is and has been one of my favourite Malaysian food. My mum loved this dish the most throughout the whole trip! As to my dad, this portion is too little for him. 😂
Throwback to Kuala Terengganu trip #4
Terengganu State Museum
I read that this is the largest museum in Malaysia with a massive floor area of over 75,000 square meters spread over 4 interconnected buildings.
I was quite amazed at how huge and magnificent this building was. They have delicate craftsmanship on the walls and the architecture was based on the ancient Terengganu palace designs. The overall design gives the museum a very imposing look. They have pretty landscape surrounding the place too.
Look at how small my parents were when they stand in front of the museum entrance. The building is really huge! 😄
Throwback to Kuala Terengganu Trip #3
Turtle Valley is a narrow alley in the heart of Chinatown Terengganu that displays the coastal city’s most iconic mascots – the sea turtles. The walls and walkways are decorated with turtle-inspired mosaic art.
Sea turtles are considered as endangered species in Malaysia. But i was so shocked and sad to still see people sell turtle eggs in the local market! 😪
Apparently, it was legal in the Terengganu state. However, i saw a recent news saying the government will soon prohibit the turtle eggs sale by June 2022. 🙌🏼
Good news for you, little turtles! 🐢

Chinatown @ Kuala Terengganu
This street is mostly occupied by Chinese businesses and you can find Chinese temples, morning markets, restaurants, and souvenir shops here. It has colourful shophouses along both sides of the road that still carries the traditional flavour of those days.
We manage to visit a few restaurants here for our breakfast/lunch/dinner for the next few days.
There are not many chinese restaurants in Kuala Terengganu, so here is definitely a place to drop by if you want to have Chinese food. :)
Throwback to Kuala Terengganu Trip #1
I get to travel with my parents to Kuala Terengganu back in March. Kuala Terengganu is the capital of one of the eastern states in Peninsular Malaysia, named Terengganu.
Terengganu Drawbridge is a new iconic attraction in Kuala Terengganu. It was opened back in Aug 2019. But due to the last 2 years of the pandemic, I guess many didn't have the chance to visit this place yet.
According to Google, this is Southeast Asia's first tower drawbridge. It has a 76-meter bascule in the middle, and it is the longest ever built on a tower bridge. The bascule can be raised and lowered for ships to pass by under the bridge. Pretty similar mechanism to London Tower Bridge.
Cool architecture!

Warm, crispy, flaky croissant for breakfast!
Croissant is one of the pastry i love. Always amazed how can this simple-not-fancy looking pastry smell so heavenly at times. Even a plain croissant can taste so good! I guess the butter must have made the wonder.
Side note, I learnt that the correct pronunciation for croissant is Kwa-Son (British). Or Kruh-Saant (American).
Not Croi-Son. 😂
Had a bowl of hearty Assam Laksa @ Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock restaurant, KL East Mall for my lunch today. :)
Assam Laksa is a traditional Malaysian fish-based sour-savoury noodle soup. The dish consists of rice noodles, shallots, shredded fish, sliced cucumber and pineapples, quarter half of calamansi lime and peppermint as topping.
Meanwhile, the soup base is made of dried chillies, shrimp paste, turmeric, galangal, shallots, and lemon grass.
It is my first time trying this dish at this restaurant and my bowl of assam laksa tasted yummylicious! The soup is power packed with flavors and there's a generous amount of shredded fish in the soup, which i really like! ❤
If you're someone who likes your noodle soup to be flavorful, tangy, and little spicy, you'll probably like this! 😋

My dad loves pineapples. This is one of the pineapples he planted in our house compound. It took very long (almost a year or more i forgot) for it to grow this big.
Mind you, this pineapple in the picture has not fully ripped or ready to be eaten yet!
He said he'd rather buy one next time. Its faster😂.
Had the opportunity to dine at this nice restaurant with a group of churchmates 2 weeks ago. The bill is the courtesy of someone. Blessed are we! Thank you Jesus! 🎉
Here's some food that we ordered:
1) Appetizer: Ahi Tuna Tartar, Avocado, Pinenuts with Plum Soy
- One of the highlights of the night! The combination of all ingredients is brilliant! It has my favourite avocado and sashimi. Pinenuts were added to increase the texture. The chef also added 3 pinches of wasabi to spark the taste of the overall dish. Bravo!
2) My main food: Linguinie Seafood Aglio Olio, Chilli Fenugreek
- I personally didn't enjoy this. Aside from the seafood, the spaghetti was overall dry, spicy (due to the chilli padi) and not much flavour. Hahaha, so it wasn't the kind of oily-savoury-flavorful Aglio olio I was expecting. 😂
3) Food from friend #1: Beef Bourguignon
- It's my first time hearing and seeing a Beef Bourguignon dish. According to Google, it can also be called Beef Burgundy (i guess it's due to the colour), which is French beef stew. Looks really good! My friend reviewed, "it's not bad".
4) Food from friend #2: Aussie Angus Beef Burger
- This burger consists of a grilled Angus beef patty (yes and look how thick is the patty!), brioche bun, mixed salad, pickled beetroot, grilled onions, tomato, pineapple relish, and cheddar cheese with Asian bbq sauce, and is served with hand-cut fries. My friend reviewed that "it's surprisingly good"!
5) Food from friend #3: Canadian White Cod Buerre Blanc
The soft codfish was bathed with a very nice fragrance of lemon butter sauce = match made in heaven! One mouthful of it, and you'll go... wow-eyes-closed-heart-content kinda face expression. 😂
T'was a sumptuous dinner!

Had Walnut Monsieur @ Walnut Cafe for tea time today.
Walnut Monsieur is a toasted sandwich with pineapple slices, turkey ham, cheddar cheese, fried egg, and kewpie mayo. Very interesting combination! It's my first time eating a sandwich with pineapple slices. Sweet savoury combo. It is also served with french fries and coleslaw as sides.
Was curious about the meaning of the dish name "Monsieur". Hence, I googled and found out that the dish name is adapted from the French term "Croque Monsieur", which means a hot sandwich made with ham and cheese. It originated in French cafés and bars as a quick snack.
This cafe has successfully added a creative twist to it. Yums! 😋

Had an outing with my secondary school friends 2 weeks ago and we found a really good green tea ice cream!
It is from a dessert place called Matcha Eight which located at Lalaport Bukit Bintang City Centre KL. They serve a total of 8 flavors of premium Japanese tea ice cream in green tea, hojicha, and sencha series. Each flavor has a different tea richness to suit everyone's palate.
The flavor I got for myself is No.5 Hocus Matcha-cus. It has a creamy texture with mild sweetness, and most importantly it comes with a bitter aftertaste and rich aroma of matcha. Tasted so heavenly goooood!
