Had a good plate of Char-Siew (barbecued pork) and Siu Yok (roasted pork) a few days ago! This has got to be my family's first-go-to-easy-to-pack-meal at hawker stalls. Almost all non-halal food court in Malaysia has this one stall that sells Char-Siew and Siu Yok. Both are Chinese dish and it is usually paired with a bowl of rice or noodles. Char-Siew (barbecued pork - the one with sauce on top in the picture) has a savoury sweet taste due to ingredients like honey. I usually order a "half-meat-half-fat" cut (meaning the meat comes with some fats. Not lean meat). This way, I can still enjoy the juiciness of the fat and the overall texture of the meat won't get too dry while consuming. Meanwhile, Siu Yok (roasted pork) is usually seasoned overnight with ingredients such as cooking wine, sugar, salt, and five-spice powder. It is then roasted in a charcoal furnace at a high temperature. Siu Yok is my all-time favourite as I like the brown crispy skin and tender meat! Yumssss! 😋 What a simple, easy-to-get, and hearty meal! :) #food #teammalaysia
