Kindness Along the Road
It was a Saturday when Mary Jane tagged me on a post at Noise App that she was drafting an article on what I did for her 12 years ago. Reading that, I had no idea what it was all about. Later on, I had to recall what I actually did to her. Then I remember, it was when we had a company outing back then. Yes, we were colleagues. I was in the first batch and she was in the second batch. I became friends and hang out with some people from her batch.
I don't find her a snob. MJ was just a shy person.
This is the article she wrote.
@bmjc98 - Thankful For What @itravelRox Did To Me 12 Years Ago
Before I saw and read her published article, I was right about what she was talking about. I was with an ex at that time. While the rest of our co-workers stayed in the resort, the X and I decided to leave since it was late afternoon already. We lived in the south of Cebu so we knew how difficult the commute going back home was. Besides, I wasn't that familiar with Mactan island or Lapu-Lapu City that's why I tagged the X at that time.
If my memory serves right, I saw MJ alone in the waiting shed while waiting for jeepneys. I forgot exactly what I and my ex asked her. But maybe I asked her where her destination was. Fortunately, we had the same destination which is to go to the proper mainland of Cebu City which is Colon street.
I already noticed that she was anxious but I never asked her anything. It was the ex who asked her. He noticed her prosthetic leg. I was shocked to learn about it and I felt bad about her situation. I think I asked her something if she was okay and she told me she had a blister. I was speechless. Later on, I asked the ex how come he knew about her prosthetic leg. The ex was very observant. I forgot his answer about how he knew about it. But he said, he noticed how MJ had difficulty walking. The ex was like, "You don't know your colleague?"
I don't know almost every one of them as we had different shifts. But I felt bad about her situation as she was working different shifts with her disability. I am proud of how hardworking she is and how successful she is right now when she shifted to working at home. Of course, she is successful here on Read Cash and Noise Cash/Noise App.
Kindness Along the Road
Why I am writing this in response to MJ's article? Because as a traveler I have experienced kindness from strangers in different places, and different countries with different spoken languages. I knew MJ is not from Cebu so it was basic for us to tag along with people on the same route.
I also have my fair share of people I've helped along the road. Everything is just basic like asking for directions, which bus stop, what transportation to take, and similar things like that. I believe in Karma so when I was in different places, strangers helped me as well. I have so many stories in my travels that really touched my heart. Hoping to share it soon.
