Hello to all of you beautiful and awesome readers!
Today I am going to be taking you on a journey, well a voyage back into the depths of time. So get your lifejackets on and go and find your sea legs! Are you ready? Then away we shall go...
Okay we are here and we have sailed back in time to the year 1912.
The location is the D Deck dining saloon on board RMS Titanic! Yes, we are sailing across the Atlantic Ocean on the super liner Titanic.
Time for a spot of afternoon tea? Yes, please vicar!
Say what! - You don't believe we are on the Titanic? Uff you lot are so hard to please!
Then just have a wee look at the plate below!
There you go, it says White Star Line and the ships name of RMS TITANIC. I told you that we are on the Titanic.
Don't you recognise the Grand staircase that was made famous in the 1997 film Titanic and where the quote at the top of the article is taken from? Rose it was who said ....
"A woman’s heart is a deep ocean of secrets.”
Ain't that the truth though!
Okay okay, I can't pretend to fool you a moment longer. In actual fact the year was actually 2018, and the location was actually the Titanic suite in the Titanic visitor centre in Belfast.
Did you know that the Titanic was built in Belfast, Northern Ireland? Well, you do know it now!
Just look at these fancies and cakes, don't they make your mouth water? They did mine and boy oh boy they were delicious!
Before Covid hit, on the very top floor of the Visitor Centre, they used to serve afternoon teas on most Sundays in the Titanic suite. I think it was around £20 per person if I remember correctly. If you wanted the champagne version then obviously it was available at an extra cost, but for me Afternoon tea means no alcohol. If you want a drink, then that is what the pub is for, a then quaff a pint or three of Guiness if required.
The food really was superb as you can see from the pictures! Who doesn't like a scone with clotted cream and jam with their afternoon tea.
The food was described as a sumptuous selection of finger sandwiches, savoury items, classic scones and mouth-watering sweet bites. I have to agree with that completely.
Tea was served and me being me, I just had to have a coffee as well as the tea.
Titanic Belfast serves tea that has been made with locally blended Thompson’s loose leaf tea, and it is available in a range of flavours. One fun part is that it’s served in crockery replicated from that used on board Titanic and other White Star Line vessels. They try to keep it as authentic as possible.
The next time I am back home in Belfast after Covid, I will be enjoying a spot of Afternoon Tea again, and I do recommend if you are in Belfast, then do make a point of booking and enjoying the Afternoon Tea! The Visitor centre itself is well worth a tour as it is an interactive museum with awesome exhibits and you take a little train and go through the various stages of building the ship. Kids absolutely love it! Be prepared for crowds and you can easily spend the best part of a day there.
Thank you for reading! All these pictures of food are making me want something sweet!
