Smiling Is Not Just About Being Happy
We have times when we smile because we are happy. Smile is a general gesture that even whenever you are in the world, you know that when someone smiles, they are happy. Well, there is some exception, maybe.
We all have reasons to smile. We smile when we hit our volume of sales. We smile when we eat a good meal. We smile when we are winning.
Thank you, sponsors!
For me, smiling is not just about being happy. I will list some reasons why I smile in this article.
1) I smile when I am in an awkward situation.
When you feel in an awkward situation just smile, it will save you (sometimes). This situation is when we are having a conversation that is mostly tabooed like religion, politics, and money.
These are the convos that I do not like to talk about. I know we have different views on it so, there is a chance of arguments. And then, the situation will become awkward. When I am in this situation, I say nothing and just smile. I do not need to say my thoughts on it if they do not respect it at all. Also, just walk away and do an excuse like you are having a bad stomach haha!
2) When someone is full of BS.
You know and you feel when someone is lying in your face. You know it so well that when you spill the beans, they will flip out. What I do when I am in this position is smile and just listen to his or her stories.
My mind is saying, "You really think I will believe in your stories." I am not a person that confronts you the first, I will be the last one so that I will truly confirm if you are lying.
3) When I feel sad ( Yes).
Did you know when you are smiling even though you are not happy makes you happy? To be scientific, when we smile, our brains will send tiny molecules known as neuropeptides to fight stress and sadness.
Our body is wonderful, right? I always do this when I feel down or when I feel empty. It is one inexpensive way to be happy. I do not need to impulsively buy, or stress-eating. Haha!
4) When I need to be fake sometimes.
They said, fake it until you made it. Faking is not generally bad. Faking can sometimes save you in a bad situation.
One time, someone is asking me to lend 1,000 pesos. For I know, this person has so much unpaid money to my friends. In short, he is not to be trusted when it comes to his promises to pay his debts.
What I know is the money that he borrows is spent on casinos and gambling. I would rather lend my money to people who are really needing it. I fake a situation wherein I said that I do not have money and all my money is invested in something. I am glad that he did not ask anything after that. See? Faking is not bad at all.
Final Thoughts
Are we the same, too? Yes, smiling should be used in happiness often and not on what in my list. I only use smiling in bad situations when it is my last resort to escape it. Happiness is one of my aspirations in life. I choose happiness and healthy mental health over everything.
