Since we were at Stiq which is just opposite of their other food outlet Burger Kaw Kaw, my friend ordered a lamb burger to share.
The meal comes with a side of chicken hotdogs together with the burger itself. The burger had lettuce and onions. I think the onions were grilled but it could have done a little longer on the grill in my opinion.
The burger also had a slice of beef bacon in it which was nice. The buns were alright but a little on the dry side. For the meat itself, it isn't a pure meat patty and has fillers in it probably like breadcrumbs and eggs to bind. It has the texture more of the Ramly burger patty than an all-meat sort of patty.
Overall it was an average tasting burger but for the price point I guess it's reasonable. The speed of how fast the burgers came from the time we ordered was commendable. It was really fast and everything was hot when it arrived.

Haven't been to Stiq for years now. The last I went there was pre-covid years so I decided to head there with some friends. I've been having in mind to order their signature 'Beef Stiq' which is exactly what I ordered.
Nothing has changed in terms of their plating which is the beef brisket that's slow cooked for 16 hours. I ordered the 2-3 person portion size which is about 600-700g as I was sharing with a friend. The portion was not disappointing at all and was very satisfied with the serving.
The meal comes with a side of oven baked potatoes topped with beef bacon bits and topped with mayo. I really love their roasted potatoes which unfortunately they don't have it as an add-on on their menu. The dish also comes with a side of salad and some grilled onions which were delicious as well. You also get a free soft drink with the main that you order.
The beef brisket was super tender pairing really nicely with their barbecue sauce which is slightly sweet and tangy.
Since I haven't been here in so long, the quality and taste of the food is still as good as I remembered and definitely recommended considering the price and portion given. Will want to try their lamb options the next round I visit. If its anything like the beef brisket, I'm sure it'll be delicious!

So at the cafe I work at, we get to took whatever we feel like eating which means we get to experiment as well as savor various cuisines from western to eastern food. This time I wanted some curry and rice so I cooked some beef curry and Sautéed French Beans with fried tofu which I took inspiration from a dish my Mum makes.
For the curry I toasted some star anise and cloves in some oil then used a premix curry paste as well as some curry powder and turmeric powder. I then added onions, ginger, and garlic to Sautéed until soften and fragrant then coconut milk goes in to cook. Once the oil separates, the beef goes in. I also bought some beef tripe which I added in to the curry as well.
Add in water and season with salt and pepper then let the beef simmer and stew for at least 1 and a half hours.
While the curry cooked, I prepped and cook my vegetables. I simple cut the French beans into 1 inch batons and for the tofu I used a firm tofu and cut it into similar sizes like the French beans.
I then deep fried the tofu for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown then remove them to drain on some paper towels.
For the French beans, I simply Sautéed some garlic in oil then the French beans goes in to Sauté for a couple of minutes. Add in the fried tofu and season the dish with oyster sauce, soy sauce and some salt to taste. Add in water and simmer for 2-3 minutes and the dish is done.
We ate the curry and French beans with rice and it was super delicious. The curry had so much depth of flavor and the spices were so well balanced. The beef was tender and the tripe as well. I have to say it's the best curry I've ever cooked and will definitely cook this dish again in the future. Super delicious! ~~

Our cafe recently hired a new guy as a barrista. He's the youngest coworker we have now at only 20 years old. After a couple of weeks working together he complimented that our staff meal is by far the best staff meal he has had at any place he's ever worked at.
Since its his first few weeks with us, I decided to cook some of my signature meals that I haven't cooked for some time as well.
The other day I made chicken Piccata for our meal but instead of mash potatoes and Sautéed French beans like my last round, I accompanied the chicken with Sautéed spinach and roasted potatoes.
For the chicken I drenched it in flour that I seasoned with onion powder and garlic powder. I then pan fried them until golden brown on both sides then tossed in butter, capers, lemon juice, and some chicken stock. Let them simmer for about 10 minutes, season to taste with some salt and pepper and more butter and the chicken is done!
For the spinach, wash and clean them thoroughly then cook them with some garlic oil and season with salt and chicken stock.
For the potatoes, I handled them with a little more love and care to make a superb side dish. Potatoes are affordable and if treated well, makes some of the best side dishes ever.
For mine, I boiled them in some water until they are fork tender. I then remove them from the pot and smash them with a fork or you could use anything to smash it. This is so that it'll have more edges and when it goes in the oven, more edges means more crispiness overall which makes for a much more delicious roasted potato.
I seasoned it with thyme, garlic oil, butter, salt and some black pepper. This goes into a 180 degree oven for 10 minutes then 220 degrees for another 7-8 minutes. The result is a tender and creamy potato with golden crusted crispy edges.
Plate them all up and a super delicious lunch is served. Yummmmyyy! ~~

So for lunch today, I cooked some yellow Thai curry chicken and a side dish of steamed egg tofu with a soy and chili oil sauce.
For the Thai curry, I used a yellow curry premix and prepped vegetables like potato, onions, and carrots. I used chicken tenders for this dish but you could use any part that you like.
I first Sautéed the vegetables in some oil and seasoned them with salt. I then added in the chicken to brown a little before adding in the yellow curry paste. After stir frying everything for a couple of minutes, I add in some water and coconut milk and then covering the lid, let the pot of curry simmer for a good 10-15 minutes on low heat.
I finished the curry with roughly chopped fresh basil, seasoned to taste and the curry was done.
For the egg tofu, I cut them up in roughly 1 and a half inch slices then prepped the sauce to drizzle on top. For the sauce I used soy sauce, vinegar, some oil and dried shrimp chili. Mix them up and add them to the egg tofu. Instead of steaming it, I used the oven instead which worked perfectly and turned out phenomenal.
We ate these 2 dishes with rice. The curry was creamy and delicious and the tofu was smooth and silky with an added tang and spicy kick with the chili oil sauce. Yums! ~~

The other day my colleague bought some Chinese noodles which I used them to cook our staff meal. I took inspiration from a noodle dish my Mum makes using these noodles and made a similar one with slightly different ingredients.
For the noodles, I simply boiled them in some water just like you would cooking dried pasta. Bring a pot of water up to a boil and then dump in the noodles to cook.
For the broth, I used my Mum's recipe which uses a Chinese preserved vegetable that's spicy and sourish. It also has a nice sweetness that makes the broth super flavorful and tasty. I also added in to the broth some carrots and white radish to give it more complexity of flavor.
I then boiled some shrimp and chicken dumplings in the broth and then plate the noodles up to eat.
The noodles go into a bowl first then topped with the broth. I then garnished the bowl with some slices of radish, dumplings, and preserved vegetable. I also got some pickled bamboo shoots which I garnished the noodles on the side. On the top, I added an onsen egg and sprinkled the dish with some chopped spring onions and some dried shrimp chili, mixing everything together to add some spicy kick to it.
A super delicious noodle lunch that reminded me of home. Yummy! ~~

After work one of the Saturdays, I went for dinner with my colleague at a noodle shop called 'Mummy's Noodle House'. It's a cozy place of around 30 seats and simple decorations.
They serve a variety of handmade noodles served two-ways either dry or in a soup. For myself, I ordered their soup dish with thin noodles as I had my wisdom tooth growing and it was excruciatingly painful to eat anything so this was a best suited meal for me given the conditions.
The noodles they make have a really nice texture and mouthfeel to it. The broth was so flavorful and refreshing, not to mention addictive. I'm craving for a bowl of their hot soup right about now as I'm writing this.
The food also is served really quickly within 5 minutes of ordering. I ordered their set meal so the meal comes with a drink and a side of their homemade chili dipping sauce which had a nice tang and kick added to the noodles.
Overall I thought the service and food were good and will definitely go again as well as recommend people especially noodle lovers.

We still had some orecchiette left at the shop so I decided to finish this pack up by making a broccoli orecchiette pasta dish for lunch.
For the sauce I made it a little different this time. Instead of blending the broccoli stems with tuna and red pepper flakes, I extracted the juices of some asparagus which we had leftover.
I boiled them for about 3 minutes in boiling water then I removed them and blended them together. In then let it cool and squeezed out the juices from the asparagus and added into it some slices of anchovies.
For the broccoli, I roasted them in an oven for 10 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius and seasoned it with garlic butter, salt and some pepper.
For the sauce, I Sautéed some onions in oil and then added slices of chicken tenders to stir fry them together. Next I added in the asparagus juice to it and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
For the pasta, I simply boiled them in water and when they were done added them to the sauce cooking them together for another 3-4 minutes so that the pasta absorbs the flavors from the sauce.
Season to taste and the dish is ready. Grate some parmegiano regiano on top and it's ready to be served. Yums! ~~

My colleague bought some canned pork belly stew that was on the discount shelve at a local supermarket. He got a few cans as it was going 50% off and it was a good deal.
He also bought some taro (yams) from the supermarket above our workplace and prepped it to be cooked together with the pork belly. The taro was simply peeled then deep fried to get the exterior of the yams crispy and fried which gives it a better flavor.
He then cooked the pork stew with the taro and let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes until the taro was soft on the inside. It shouldn't be cooked longer than that as the yams can disintegrate which you don't want as you want it in pieces to be enjoyed with the stew.
My other colleague bought some crispy pork belly from a grocer as well for that lunch and we enjoyed these two pork dishes with steamed white rice which we cook at the cafe.
It was a delicious lunch that was really satisfying and super delish! ~~

During the past month's school holidays, I took some days off work and went out with my family and my brother's together with my Mum to a chocolate museum. It's only RM5 per entry and a decent amount of things to explore and read there.
The entry also comes with a free chocolate making demo where you watch them make chocolate which you can sample some pieces at the end of it. A worthwhile trip and a nice experience at the chocolate museum.
After our visit to the chocolate museum, we scouted for a place to have lunch. There was a nearby hawker center that we found though Google maps which we decided to head to.
There are over 15 stalls to choose from and I ordered for myself a bowl of Shoyu Ramen from one of the stalls.
The noodles were really nice and springy and tasted great. The broth was smooth and flavorful and the char shu was super tender and soft. I really enjoyed the generous amount of spring onions that were topped on the ramen. Gave superb flavor to the ramen as a whole.
Overall a very nice bowl of ramen which I recommend people to give it a try.
A fun day out with the family and a different place to eat at from the usual spots we go to.

Had a potluck at a friend's place a few weeks ago. We celebrated 3 of their birthdays which fall in the same month.
Sometimes although there were a lot of food, these blogs are harder to write as I don't know what ingredients and how the food were cooked. Anyway here's what we had:
- Potato Salad & Shepherds Pie
One of my friend made these 2 dishes. The potato salad was creamy and the shepherd's pie was nice and moist. It had mash potatoes and parmesan cheese on it which made it extra flavorful.
- Gyoza & Meatballs
My friend who was the host made this. She hand pleated them and made the pork filling from scratch. She even made the black vinegar and ginger dipping like you'd have at a restaurant and it paired really well with the gyozas.
She had leftover pork mince filling so she made meatballs with them. Doubling up on a same ingredient making 2 different dishes.
- Chicken Chop & Brown Sauce
Another friend of mine made these boneless chicken chop with her thermomix. The chops were a little overcooked but the brown sauce was superb! One of the best brown sauces I've ever eaten if not the best. I got the recipe from her and will try to recreate it soon and without using a thermomix 😄
- Filipino Spaghetti
Me and my wife made Filipino Spaghetti. Recently had it at work where my Filipino colleague cooked it for us. I got the recipe from him and made it for the potluck.
My first time making it and I think it was maybe just above average. Could have been better which I'll definitely make it better the next time around. The kids did love it though so I guess it was a successful first try.
We also had cake and some soup. A festive meal celebrating birthdays together.

One of my colleagues recently bought a spicy sichuan Mala paste from the supermarket. I used this for our lunch and cooked a one pot spicy Mala dish to go with some simply steamed white rice.
For the pork I cut up some lovely fresh pork shoulders into chunks. It had a nice ratio of fat and meat which is perfect got a stew dish like this.
I marinated the pork with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and some dark soy sauce. While the pork marinates, I prepared the vegetables that were going into this stew.
I peeled and slice some potatoes, and onions roughly chopped. I also got a pack of lotus root which I saw at the supermarket. I never tried pre prepped lotus root like this before but after trying, I recommend you go for the fresh ones instead. They will have better flavor than these preprepped ones.
I also cleaned and roughly chopped some mustard greens. I used mustard greens as they can stand up to long periods of cooking and retain its textural integrity.
In a pan or pot, add in some oil and stir fry the pork. Once they brown which should take just a couple of minutes, add in the paste and cook them. Add in water to cover the pork and the mustard greens and let them simmer for 45 minutes.
For the final 15 minutes, add in the onions, potatoes and lotus root. Add in salt to taste and you're done.
The sichuan Mala was spicy, tangy, slightly sweet, and savory. Super delicious and perfect to eat with rice especially on a cold and rainy day. Super appetising and umami packed dish.

My last day of work for the week and we went back a little later than usual. Saw this streetside burger stall open after getting off the train and decided to have some burgers for me and my wife's dinner.
Its my first time trying out this stall and after trying it, definitely not gonna be my last.
I ordered for my wife a single patty burger with egg and for myself a double patty beef burger with egg. My wife's burger was RM4.50 (1+ USD) and I saw on the menu that a double patty was only and additional RM1 (<0.25 USD) which is ridiculously cheap.
The buns are toasted with margarine till golden brown then the Ramly beef patties are cooked. Its seasoned with Maggi seasoning and white pepper and fully cooked through. The egg is spread on the flat top into a circle with mayonnaise and sweet chili sauce then the cooked patties are place on top and wrapped with the egg into a cute little parcel. So expertly done.
The burger also had some cabbage and cucumber as the vegetables and topped with more mayonnaise and chili sauce.
A super saucy and sloppy Malaysian style burger that's so tasty and satisfying. Will definitely come by and have burgers from this stall again in the future.

Often whenever I'm at work and it's my turn to cook the staff meal, I'll think of things my Mum used to cook for me when we stayed together. It's food that I miss eating on a daily basis and I try to recreate them not only to enjoy eating the food I love but to also have it as a recipe to cook in the future for my family.
The other day I made one of my mum's dishes which is a garlic and tomato stir fried chicken dish.
I start with marinating chicken tenders that I roughly chopped with soy sauce and oyster sauce. While the chicken is marinating, I prep the other ingredients which are onions, fresh tomatoes, and garlic.
For onions and garlic, I roughly chop them and for the garlic I Mince them. You could also slice them, it doesn't really matter.
In a pan or wok, add in some oil and the minced garlic. Sauté them on low heat until fragrant then add in the onions. Stir fry them for about 2-3 minutes and season with salt then add in the marinated chicken.
Cook the chicken on high heat for about 3-4 minutes then add in the tomatoes. Cover the lid and let everything cook for another 3-4 minutes and you're done.
Seasoned to taste with additional salt, soy sauce, and oyster sauce and the dish is ready to be served. Super simple and everything from prep to meal done in under 30 minutes.
I also made a vegetable dish which was broccoli that I roughly chopped up and rubbed it with garlic, butter, salt and black pepper. I roast it in a 180 degree oven for 8-10 minutes and it's done. Slightly charred on the edges and tender on the inside.
Are these dishes with rice and they were a super delicious and lovely meal.

It's been awhile since I last ate at Penang Chendul. I went for a late dinner with my wife to the outlet at Melawati Mall. It wasn't very packed at that hour so I got my food fairly quickly which was wonderful.
I ordered their white curry mee which I have been craving and man did it satisfy. Its my go to dish at Penang Chendul and still taste as good as I remembered it.
The portion of noodles were decent and the bowl of noodles also came with 2 pieces of peeled prawns, some fried taufu, cuttlefish, cockles, with some long beans and beansprouts.
Everything was cooked perfectly and of course the star of the dish is the broth. Super flavorful and just the right level of spiciness. I could drink 2 bowls of this delicious and fragrant broth. Really well balanced and definitely craving for more.
For my noodles I ordered a mix of yellow noodles and mihun (rice vermicelli). The noodles were cooked well and soaked up the broth nicely.
Can't wait for my next visit for a bowl of delicious white curry noodles.

On the way home from work the other day, I bought for my wife and I some takeaway for dinner. I went to a roadside Nasi Lemak stall that had many varieties of dishes to choose from. There were around 15-20 different dishes to choose from.
I got for myself a portion of Nasi Lemak which came with the usual condiments of fried anchovies, fried groundnuts, sambal, some cucumber slices, and half a hard-boiled egg. The rice was nice and fluffy and the sambal was good.
I got 3 different dishes. A fried fish with sambal gravy, beef rendang, and stir fried bitter gourd.
The fried fish was super generous in portion for the price and the beef rendang was so flavorful and tender. I really enjoyed the fish and beef dish a lot. Definitely one of my favorite tasting beef rendang around the area.
The bitter gourd was tasty and nice as well but it was a little too spicy for my liking.
Overall a really good place to get food from and I'll definitely be going back soon. I'll get some pictures of this small stall for my next blog of this place 😊

My dad treated us a dinner the other day at a noodle place called SRK Borneo Noodle House. They serve East Malaysia noodle dishes.
I ordered their set meal promotion which includes a bowl of noodles and a drink to go with it.
I ordered their Kolo Mee with thick noodles and each bowl of noodles typically come with minced pork and some slices of pork with spring onions as garnish. The meal also comes with a bowl of soup with meatballs. The noodles were good and the taste pretty decent for the price point.
For the set meal, the bowl of noodles is a smaller portion compared to if you'd order the ala carte. They are both the same price but the set meal deal comes with the drink. So if you don't want the drinks and want more noodles, go for their ala-carte.
We also ordered a bowl of their wantan dumplings which were really delicious. Highly recommended.
My dad also got a dessert bowl of chendol which featured the native Sarawak sugar called 'gula apong'. Its a palm sugar which is lighter tasting compared to Gula Melaka. I personally didn't like it as I prefer the Gula Melaka version but if you want something lighter tasting, you might like this chendol.
Overall a decent place to have a meal with decently priced meals and taste.

A few Sundays ago after church, I went for lunch with friends and family at a Texas fried chicken outlet. Its the chain from US called Church's but in Malaysia, being an Islamic country, they changed the name to Texas.
Its been growing super fast here in Malaysia and its overtaking the Mane decades of dominance of KFC. I do love the flavors of KFC fried chicken but the size of the chicken has been shrinking to the point its not very worth it going for KFC.
Texas on the other hand are serving decent sized chicken and the chicken are always moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. Plus they also have the honey biscuits which is unique to their brand.
I ordered a new item on their menu called Texadilla. Its a casadilla with fried chicken tenders and some spicy cheese sauce. This item is some what trying to promote to kids but the cheese sauce was so spicy I doubt any child would be able to eat this. The size though is that of a kids portion as they are using half a flour tortilla wrap to make this.
I wasn't full by the end of the meal so I ordered an ala-carte of 2 pieces of fried chicken which was really yummy. We also got some fries and waffle fries as our sides which my kids really love.
#food #foodie
Beef in Malaysia is getting more and more expensive due to inflation and its becoming more of a luxury to get to eat beef. I tried out some cheaper cuts of lower quality beef recently and made some beef stew.
I used Indian beef tenderloin for this recipe which I think it's my first and last time using it. Although it's the tenderloin which suppose to be more tender, it still was very tough and chewy even after cooking this stew for almost 2 hours. I guess it could be tenderized further by cooking an extra hour or 2 but yeah, you gotta plan that you have time in your schedule if you're going to use this cut of meat.
Asides from the texture, the taste was still good.
I started with onions, carrots and celery and Sautéed them with some oil in a pot. I seasoned them with salt and pepper and while they are sizzling away, I marinated the beef with soy sauce, dark soy sauce and oyster sauce.
Next the beef is added to the mix and then some rosemary goes in with some salt to taste and water to cover the meat. Bring it up to a boil and then simmer for as long as you can.
For the vegetables, I shredded some cabbage and stir fried it with fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds, and fennel seeds in some oil on low heat. Once the spices get fragrant, add in the cabbage and some turmeric and cook the cabbage in high heat stirring constantly for about 5-7 minutes. Season with some salt to taste and its ready to serve.

One of my colleagues bought this vegan sort of penne pasta from the supermarket recently so I decided to use it for one of our staff meals. I sort of knew they weren't gonna be nice as nothing vegan ever taste amazing especially those that actually require animal produce to make.
Anyway, we had them so I used them.
I made a vegetable soup with chicken and penne for our meal.
It starts of with a medley of vegetables like broccoli, cauliflowers, carrots, onions, and baby corn. I simply chopped them up into bite size pieces and then set them aside.
For the chicken, I used chicken tenders and roughly chopped them as well. I sautéed them in some oil in a pot for about 2 minutes then I added in water and the pasta in.
After cooking the pasta for about 10 minutes, I then added in all my vegetables which I prepped beforehand and cover the lid of the pot with the heat off. Leave it for about 10-15 minutes and the risidual heat would've cooked the vegetables perfectly.
Season to taste with salt and pepper and you're done. The soup was so flavorful with the sweetness from the vegetables and the broth turned out to have a nice smoothness from the starch that the pasta released. The pasta however didn't have a nice taste to it as it didn't taste like usual pasta. But the meal was delicious with the vegetables and the amazing flavored broth.
Will definitely use regular pasta next time.
#food #foodie
It was one of my colleagues turn to cook staff meal so he bought some soba noodles to cook for lunch. It looked more like udon noodles but slightly thinner and not as thin as soba noodles. So I guess it was a hybrid version of both udon and soba. Anyway let's call it soba noodles, non-traditional that is.
It came in a packet with a premix sauce which from the taste it was like a teriyaki sauce with a nice balance of sweet and savory.
He sliced up some cabbage for the vegetables and for the protein we had some salami in the fridge so he cut that up into slices as well. All these went on to the flat top to cook until they were nicely caramelised and charred, giving it lots of lovely smokey aroma.
The noodles then went in and the sauce as well. He stir fried them on the flat top on high heat to cook the noodles and in about 5 minutes they were ready to eat.
A super simple meal but it was so delicious that I went for seconds. I wanted to go for thirds but there wasn't enough left so we'll definitely be cooking more in the future when we make this yakisoba dish.
Man I love fried noodles!

I've always wanted to try Filipino pasta as I love pasta and was always curious how it tasted like. It's a dish that is made popular especially by Filipino food chain, 'Jollibee'.
This one however was made by my Filipino colleague and it was way more loaded with meat and Hotdogs than the one you'll get elsewhere.
It starts with Filipino style tomato sauce. He used the brand Del Monte for this one and also banana ketchup which is a ketchup-like sauce but made from bananas instead.
He stir fried some hotdogs cut into slices with some oil. Once they brown they are removed from the pan and then some onions, peppers, chili, and garlic are stur fried with some oil. Once they soften, minced pork goes in to brown and its seasoned with soy sauce.
The tomato sauce and banana ketchup goes in next and the hot dogs added back to the pan. Cook everything with the lid covered for about 10 minutes, season to taste and the sauce is done.
Serve this up with some Spaghetti and topped with your favorite cheese for added flavor. It's a sweet and savory sauce and definitely a kids favorite that makes you feel like a kid again when having this.

I cooked lunch the other day for the staff that turned out super amazing. I made 2 dishes that day, a meat stew and a vegetable stir fry.
I made a dish similar to a Filipino adobo stew with pork shoulder. I marinated the pork shoulder with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and dark soy sauce. Mix them all together and let them marinade for at least 15 minutes.
I then prepped the ginger and saute them with some oil in a pan until they turn fragrant. Next, the pork shoulder goes in and then cover to cook for about 5 minutes. I then add in water and then let the stew simmer for an hour.
I boiled some hard boiled eggs on the side and peeled them. After peeling them, I added them into the stew to cook for the final 10 minutes together with the pork stew.
For the vegetable dish, we had lots of cabbage left so I shredded them and cooked them with carrots that I simply sliced. I cooked them with some roasted peppers together with its oil and seasoned everything with salt. The dish turned out amazing with sweetness from the peppers and cabbage pairing really well.
We ate these 2 dishes with rice and it was an amazing and hearty lunch. Super delicious!

Went for an overdue valentine's day date with my wife after work to a Vietnamese restaurant that we both enjoy.
Its nearby where I work and only walking distance so we headed there after I had finished work.
The place is called An Viet which I recently tried and my wife tried the food some years back. It was quite empty when we arrived compared to the last time I was there which was jammed packed.
I ordered their Bun Cha which is vermicelli noodles that you pour the fish sauce and pork stock on the noodles. It was super savory and full of umami flavors. Extremely delicious and full of flavor.
My wife ordered their beef Pho. The beef was tender and succulent and the broth clean and refreshing yet very flavorful at the same time. Not a heavy dish but very flavorful.
We also ordered their crispy pancake to share. It was an omelette like dish with rice paper on the outside that was fried and super crispy. It had a pork filling inside that was flavorful and delicious.
A wonderful meal spent with my closest person in the world. Definitely a place to come again with yummy food.

The other day my Filipino colleague cooked some delicious Filipino stew with chicken and coconut milk. It's called 'Ginataang Gulay', a vegetable stew with long beans and pumpkin.
It starts with sautéing ginger with oil until the ginger is fragrant. Next onions, long beans that have been cut into 1 and a half inches long, and roughly chopped pumpkin goes in to sauté. Season with salt and stir fry them for about 3-4 minutes and then the chicken goes in.
We used boneless chicken thighs that have been cut into cubes. They are tender and juicy that suits this dish perfectly.
Cover the lid to cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes and season the chicken with some salt and fish sauce.
Remove the lid and stir before adding in coconut milk. If you can't get freshly squeezed coconut milk, the box version will do fine.
Cover the lid and simmer for another 10-15 minutes and season to taste and the stew is ready to serve.
We had this creamy delicious dish with rice and it was amazing. The gravy was rich and creamy. It had a wonderful balance of savory and natural sweetness from the longbeans and pumpkin stewing together with the chicken. Super delicious and a must try in your recipe book. Yums! ~~

One of my colleague has been going around supermarkets and checking out their reduce to clear sections for good bargains. He normally gets canned items or dry ingredients. The items are all like a month or 2 away from the expiration date so they often go for 50% off or higher.
Recently he got some okonomiyaki pancake flour and he got some to make for our staff meal. It's a premix that all you need to add is eggs and some water.
He added in freshly sliced cabbage and sliced salami to the batter and then fried it on the flat top with some oil.
After a couple of minutes and it's golden brown, he flips it to cook on the other side until golden brown as well.
After its cooked, we topped it with teriyaki sauce and Japanese kewpie mayo. I had mine it a fried egg as well and some freshly chopped spring onions.
The crust was slightly crispy and the center of the okonomiyaki was soft and fluffy. The cabbage gave it a nice natural sweetness and the salami a slightly smokey flavor. The teriyaki sauce added a nice sweet flavor to the pancake and the Japanese mayo making it rich and creamy paired with the egg yolk. It was such a delicious meal and a nice change from our usual rice based meals.

It's been awhile since I had chili pan mee so it was a perfect time to have it after church on Sunday. Me and some friends went to Meet Mee in Genting Klang which had recently reopen after they closed during the pandemic years.
Its great to see them back in business again as they are one of my go to places for chili pan mee whenever I'm craving for some. Also something I didn't know is that they are a pork free shop which I can't tell by the food alone as its extremely flavorful.
I ordered their signature chili pan mee with fried fish cakes with thick noodles. The dish came with their signature handmade noodles that has such a wonderful texture both chewy and soft at the same time. It was topped with fried fish cake slides, minced meat, fried shallots, freshly slices spring onions, and a soft boiled egg.
I added their sambal and their dried chili flakes in as well and once you mix everything together with the noodles and the creamy egg yolk, it becomes a rich and spicy sauce that coats the noodles beautifully. It's like a spicy Chinese version of an Italian bolognese/ragu.
Super delicious bowl of noodles and a craving satisfying dish.

fter the event in the day at the cafe, we left work earlier that day after closing and I managed to go back home to take a shower first before going out for dinner with some friends.
We went to a nearby mamak shop for dinner where they serve the usual Nasi Kandar which is rice with a selection of curries to choose from.
They also have some hot fried food which they cook to order such as a variety of fried noodles and fried rice dishes.
I ordered a fried noodle dish called 'Maggi Goreng' which is friend instant ramen together with some vegetables. I ordered a fried chicken for mine which I had them cook together with my noodles.
I've been to this place before and the noodles turned out so different from the last time I had it. I was wondering about this and got the reason why it was so different when I was paying.
Apparently its a different dish entirely. It was a Thai Maggi Goreng instead of a usual one which I'm not sure why they gave me this dish instead since I didn't order it.
Anyway, it was a delicious meal and even better than the usual one I normally get. It was slightly sweeter and had a nice flavor to it compared to the regular Maggi Goreng. The chicken was also delicious and added a nice extra flavor to the whole fried noodles dish. Yums! ~~

It was my nephews birthday last month and his last year as kid. He's turned 12 and we celebrated with him and the family at a Korean fried chicken outlet called 'Chicken Plus'.
We ordered their UFO chicken set for him as it looked special and a good occasion to have it. It came with 3 different flavors of chicken wings, a fried vermicelli ball of some sort, and in the middle was a carbonara topokki.
The chicken here is extremely delicious. Recommended flavors to get are the sour cream and onions, any of their spicy and sweet flavors. There's 1 flavor which I didn't enjoy which is the golden dusted one. It had a weird sweetness to it that I didn't enjoy. Perhaps some may like it but generally the company I was with didn't enjoy that flavor either. Everything else was superb and the wings were a generous size, crispy on the outside and juicy, tender, fall of the bone on the inside.
The topokki is something that we didn't enjoy either as the carbonara sauce has a weird sweetness to it too. It had the flavor profile of the childhood white rabbit candy if you're familiar with it.
We also had Korean pancakes which was average.
All in all, highly recommended place for Korean fried chicken. Delicious! ~~

The other day I made a soup for lunch which is something my Mum makes from time to time. It was my first time trying to make it and it turned out exactly like how it's suppose to taste.
Its a black beans and pork soup and I used pork shoulder for this. You could use pork belly or ribs of you'd like so anything you like really. If you don't eat pork, you can substitute this with chicken and it'll work fine.
The black beans are washed and in a pot brought to a simmer together with a bulb of garlic. Just cut the tops and add in the whole garlic. Don't mind peeling them.
Next, add in the black beans and pork and bring everything up to a boil. Once the soup starts boiling, add in salt and some chicken stock, lowering the fire and simmering the soup for an hour or so.
You'll end up with tender pork shoulder. The fat extremely rich and the lean meat balances it with its savory and meaty flavor. The black beans and garlic pairs really well giving the soup and earthy flavor profile.
I also made a simple dipping sauce of minced garlic, chopped up birds eye chili, and soy sauce. Dip the pork shoulder slices in this and enjoy with rice is the best way to eat this meal.
