A Confession and a Creampuff

Momo was casually sipping from her drink when Mari finally spilled out the question she was trying to ask all this time.

"Do you like Jeremy?"

She was not surprised by the question because she sensed that it was where their awkward interaction is heading to. That, or Mari was gonna confess that she likes her. She was prepared for both but Momo would really prefer if it was the first scenario rather than the latter.

Although she was expecting it, the question was really heavy and she was taken aback almost choking on the drink she sipped. She fake coughed for a bit as she was trying to gather her composure.

"What?" Momo tried to buy some more time.

"I mean. Do you like, like Jeremy." Mari repeated it innocently. "I don't know. I am not sure, but I think I like him." Mari continued.

Momo's grip on her cup involuntarily tightened. She tried to ease it up when she noticed it. She tried to hide her reaction so Mari could not pick up on it. And if there was any doubt in her mind and in her chest if she really like Jeremy, that was the confirmation she was trying to avoid.

She really likes Jeremy, she wouldn't react that way if she didn't. She wouldn't be pissed that Mari just confessed to her that she likes Jeremy too. And it was a confirmation she didn't need.

"I'm going to confess to him," Mari said.

The resolve in Mari's eyes was evident. Even her fidgeting had stopped. She was able to tell Momo how she felt. And she felt that she would be able to tell Jeremy any time now.

Momo tried to swallow up everything and bit her lip. And when she was able to calm herself down. She asked Mari.

"So, why are you telling me this?" Momo asked as she was stirring the cup on her hand.

"Ahm... I need your help." Mari said.

Momo got confused with what Mari said. She came in with her in the cafe expecting some confrontation because Momo thought that Mari was picking up a vibe from Momo that she likes Jeremy too. And it turns out that Mari was trying to ask her for help.

"Wait. My help? For what?" Momo asked.

"Everything. I can see how you interact with Jeremy and you seemed closed." Mari replied.

The scenes of Momo's interactions with Jeremy played through her mind. And they were mostly her teasing him and calling him a perv.

"Look at me." Mari continued. "I'd just cut my hair off and I would look like a guy. But you, you are gorgeous, and a lot of guys like you."

When was the last time this girl looked at the mirror? Mari looks feminine at all angles. True, she's dressed like a hooligan but she can't hide her pampered face and high-class skin. She would totally look like a babe if she just wore a girl's clothing.

"Huuuh?!! Are you mocking me? You're dressed like a delinquent and you are already pretty cute." Momo snapped at her.

Momo wears makeup albeit light, but she tries to put some mind into what she wears and her style. Mari on the other side looks boyish by choice.

"C...Cute? M...me? Really?" Mari asked shyly and her face flustered in a bright red hue.

"Yes. Damn it!"

"Do you think Jeremy would see me that way too?" Mari asked.

"Any boy would. If you would just drop that baseball bat of yours. You're the total package." Momo replied.

"D.. Do you mean that?"

"Yes."

"I think I'll ask him out after our play. Thank you so much. I have to go. I got this bill. Grab some dessert too. They have an amazing cream puff here."

"What? W...wait?!" Momo tried to stop her but Mari was gone in just a second.

Momo was dumbfounded and couldn't believe what had just transpired. Did she just let it all happen? Why couldn't she bring herself to tell Mari that she likes Jeremy too? Why couldn't she? Was she conflicted because she was finally trying to join in on a crowd? Was she afraid that if she said that she likes Jeremy too that she would be a cast-off forever? She used to not care. Why was she conflicted?

She was asking all these questions inside her head. And she was also asking why was there a cream puff on the table in front of her?

"Damn Mari. This is really good."

Jeremy was walking home when he spotted Momo sitting by herself in a cafe. He looked around and saw no one else with her. He decided to go in and he walked towards her.

"Is this seat taken?" Jeremy asked in a low voice. Momo seemed out of it so Jeremy repeated the question and tapped her gently on the shoulder.

"H...huh what?" Momo snapped out and was surprised to see Jeremy standing beside her.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"Oh yes, I am. Of course, why are you here? Are you following me? P..." she thought about her conversation with Mari and how Mari thought that they were close even though she was abusing him with words.

"What? No 'perv'?" Jeremy teased as he sat down across her. "I just saw you from the road and you looked lonely by yourself here. Is something the matter?"

"Nothing. I have to go. I have to do stuff." Momo stood up and grabbed her things. Jeremy immediately followed her.

"Hey, wait up."

"No! Leave me alone!" she snapped and walked ahead.

"Well, that's going to be hard, we kinda have the same route."

"Ugh!"
