AirBn...Baby?
It was the beginning of summer back in 2019 when this story took place. And it was set in the beautiful place of Baguio City.
James just got his own condo unit after working hard for it day in and day out. He wanted to put it out for rent so it would generate income for him. He registered it to AirBnB service.
He thought that it was a good idea, after all, Baguio never runs out of tourists visiting the city. And it proved to be a good decision and investment because the bookings kept coming in. He was also enjoying renting it out because it doesn't really seem to be a hassle for him. And the cash flow is really good and his profit is flourishing.
That day, he was excited because he got a new booking again. He went in into the condo and cleaned up the place. He brought out a new soap and neatly folded a fresh set of towels and sheets for the customers. Some of the times, his girlfriend helps him with the cleaning, sometimes his sisters, but most times he does everything by himself. He doesn't see it as tedious because he likes what he's doing. In that little way, in that simple way of cleaning, he feels like he is a little connected to his guests even though he never meets them personally.
He just sees their profiles through the app used by both renters and property owners. According to the booking, the guest is just a single person and she was a young woman. He brought out the shampoo and some conditioner as consideration for his guest.
After about an hour of cleaning and preparing. James decided that it was ready to be occupied and he left the unit.
He went on with his normal day and got home at night.
The next day, the guest was supposed to check out and James went to the condo unit in the afternoon together with his girlfriend. He retrieved the keycard from the receptionist in the lobby and he was also informed that the guest checked out early in the morning. James thanked the receptionist and climbed up the stairs. His unit was on the third floor but they opted to take the stairs for some additional exercise.
He knew that working in an office really takes away the much-needed exercise. Although he wanted to exercise daily, he couldn't find the time since his day is always packed.
They were a little bit panting when they reached the third floor and slowly walked towards his unit. He tapped the key on the automatic door lock and he pulled the knob down to open the door.
As he opened the door, the wailing of a baby rang from the room to across the hall. They were shocked to see a baby lying on top of the couch. They ran towards the baby and he was gently and carefully wrapped with a blue blanket. He was also surrounded by pillows to prevent him from rolling from the couch to the floor. There was a bottle of milk beside him and he stopped crying as soon as the tip of the bottle hit his lips. He sucked on it as if his life depended on it.
James looked around the unit and there was no one there.
He tried calling the guest but the number was disconnected. He checked and the email was not responding. And he could not search the name on any social media site. The more he tries to find out who the guest was, the more he realizes that everything about the guest was bogus.
He asked the building management for the security tapes but they weren't of any help. The girl was wearing a mask, a should around her head, and huge sunglasses. She was also obviously wearing an oversized shirt to conceal her figure.
And of course, he and his girlfriend brought the baby to the nearest police station to report the despicable crime that was committed. Who in their right mind could just leave a baby all alone and abandoned like that? How could a mother be so heartless to leave her infant child to die like that?
James was carrying the baby when they went to the police station. The baby was laughing as it was reaching his cheeks. James was playing with him as he made different faces.
His girlfriend saw his gleaming smile as he was playing with the baby. She held his hand.
"James...You don't think..."she said hesitantly.
"What?" James then looked at the baby. "No... no no... we can't adopt him. Can we?"
His girlfriend just smiled at him.
And I guess, that's how you can summarize how James and his now-wife, had a baby even before they got married.
They weren't able to locate the mother so they just hired a lawyer and made the process of adopting Baby Noah a legally accepted transaction.
James started the business to look for profit, instead, he found a baby and it started his young family. He considers Noah to be his fortune since after adopting him, his business boomed from renting AirBnb's to owning a hotel.
I guess you can call it a happy ending for James and Noah.
Hi!
The story above is nothing but a product of my imagination. We use AirBNB accommodation for cheap rents and I just thought that this could be a possible real-life scenario. But it might be a little bit more complicated than what is happening in real life. Mothers just leave their babies in a dumpster, under a lamppost, and so on.
Again, this is just a product of my imagination and any and all relations to real persons and places are just coincidences.
I appreciate your visit here and I hope that you won't find a baby on your next stay. Until we read again...
Cheers!!!
