The Difference Between Ethics and Morality

When we hear or read the terms Ethics and Morality, we think that they are both about knowing what is right and wrong. If you look for their definition on the internet, you will realize that they are the same. But studying and learning deeper about these two will make you know the differences between them. Ethics is a set of principles about doing right and wrong coming from an external factor like the workplace or school. On the other hand, morality comes from an individual’s principles about being aware of the things that are right and wrong.

The Different Types of Morality

  • SUBJECTIVISM

When we say subjectivism, it is human-made morality. It says that it comes from person to person. On the other hand, morals in this trend show that there is a strong connection among humans. Whether the response made by a person is good or bad can be subjective. It is about the outlook and decisions made by an individual.

  • RELATIVISM

When it comes to relativism, it concerns the culture and beliefs of a person. Some believe that there is no universal principle. The decisions and actions of the people are from their practices or customs. Also, they will act according to how their community does. The moral values they have are the ones that exist in their culture or society.

  • EGOISM

In Egoism, people are putting one good as their description of morality. They think that the promotion of this action is moral, and not doing it is never moral. It is like a self-motive. Individuals are working on themselves. That is what they think is a moral value.

  • PERSONALISM

On the other hand, personalism is about the person being the subject and object of free activity. It is like focusing on personal values. Also, the person is the feature of what is morality. In this case, an individual feels and thinks that it is his job to prioritize himself. He emphasizes the significance of his own.
