As you can read in the title, this article will be about imagining if I am the Department of Health Secretary. Being the secretary of this department means being in the national TV most of the time, specially during this crisis. If I am the secretary, I would be talking to every citizen of the country, ordinary or not. I must tell them the role they have to play in this pandemic. And the writing below would be my speech if I am about to deliver a speech with cameras focused on me...
The Pandemic COVID-19 has brought us fear, misunderstandings, and conflicts. But, it united us and made us stronger. As your Department of Health Secretary, I am here to provide you the help and answer your concerns about the crisis. Before doing that, we need to learn what we can do as medical professionals, government officials, and as a citizen of the country. Now that I am talking about facing the current pandemic we are in, I would like to catch the attention of everyone and understand the things I am about to say.
If you are in a high position, or letβs just say that you are one of the people who leads the country, what are you going to do to address the current crisis? Itβs simple. You are appointed to that position to protect the nation at all costs. You are trusted by the citizens to make everything better through your position. You can make projects, amendments, and any other solutions to try just to protect your people. On the other hand, a group of people cannot lead the country successfully without the help of their subordinates. Now, this works on the local governments. You are there to put in action the protocols and decisions made by the higher positions. Local governments will need to see the potentials or risks to their people. They are there to provide help and extend the objectives of the national government through their own hands. That is how government officials should work in answer to the cry of help of citizens.
Now, if you are a medical professional, what is your role? If a crisis involves health of the people, medical professionals are sent to the battlefield. We are here to fight in this war, we are the soldiers. Public hospitals work for the government, but we need to admit that they are not enough. This is why there are private sectors or private hospitals. They are providing the things that most public hospitals cannot afford to give. I am not misleading, but what I meant is, private hospitals are contributing in overcoming this crisis too. They have a room for patients and professional doctors as well.
Lastly, what can you contribute as a citizen of the Republic of the Philippines? Prayer is your weapon. Pray for our medical professionals and soldiers who are risking their lives for you, because they took an oath to do that. Next is, follow the guidelines and protocols for your own safety, and for the safety of the people around you. You are doing your country a favor by just staying at home when you need to. As an ordinary citizen, you are not just ordinary because you can do something and you can contribute something. You just need to learn the art of discipline. That is all. Thank you.
Every one of us has a role to play during this crisis. We are being challenged and our faith is being tested too. We are in different boats as well. Not everyone is at a good state right now. Some needs to work even if their health is at risk. The only thing that will keep us stronger and united is the faith that sooner our lives will be back to normal just like before.
Maybe some of us are questioning the government and how they try to solve this crisis, and there is nothing wrong about that. We are in a democratic country, but make sure you are not offending someone. And to all the officials out there, your citizen needs you. The people of the Republic of the Philippines is trying their best to hold onto one another, and you need to protect them at all costs. You are appointed in that position because people trusted you, and you must prove that you are worthy of their trust.
To all the frontliners and medical professionals, we are praying for you. You are our soldiers. The disadvantage of this war is that we can't see our enemy. You are all doing great starting from risking your lives. We all appreciate the efforts and sleepless nights because you have a duty. You took an oath to do everything you can to save someone's life, and we are all witnessing that. You may be tired and exhausted right now, but I believe that God will hear and answer to the prayers of the people for you. If you feel like losing hope, close your eyes and imagine the eyes of the people who are rooting on you. Imagine the children and elders who are vulnerable right now. They needed your help, and you are their hero. Keep fighting until we won this war. We will have the victory in the end, and we are getting ready to claim it.
To all the ordinary citizens of the country, keep praying. Follow the guidelines and protocols because these are made for you and the people around you. We can contribute by staying at home. Keep praying and keep fighting. The day will come, and everything will be back to how it was before.
