February 22, 2022
I've been living in this country, Hong Kong, for more than four years now, and I would consider this as one of the safest countries during this Pandemic Era. I never saw the people and the government panic because the situation can easily be controlled. Not until recently when the government was put on full war against Covid due to a sudden surge of positive cases.
2019 when the world was put on red alert as the Novel Coronavirus spread vastly and rapidly throughout the world, affecting anyone that the invisible monster would encounter, young, old, poor, rich, healthy, and unhealthy. During the first wave of Covid, Hong Kong was considered one of the safest places as it easily controlled the situation, imposing different strict and mandatory protocols for the sake of everyone.
Lockdowns were implemented in some areas and incoming flights were banned from different parts of the world just to stop the spread of the virus coming from other parts of the world. The government has always been in full support and looking for different ways to totally put the country to Zero Case each day.
Based on the All-Time Covid data of Hong Kong, it was July 2020 when Covid escalated here and the country had more than a hundred positive cases. That was even lesser compared to other countries with thousands to millions of cases.
However, from September to November of the same year, the positive cases declined only having 0 to 10 cases each day. Not until the Christmas season in December 2020 when the cases spiked to more than a hundred again, but eventually declined at the start of 2021. That's how the government controls the situation just to put the country in a safe zone. And we, responsible residents, also followed each protocol and regulation for our own safety.
And for our hope of lifting the travel bans and resuming some of our daily lives activities, we were advised to get covid jabs to protect ourselves from the virus, most especially since new variants were suddenly popping out. Despite knowing the side effects, most of us here in Hong Kong have volunteered to get vaccinated for our own safety, because we know that benefits would outweigh the risks.
From voluntary vaccination, the government made it mandatory to control the escalating virus cases. Since the start of the Covid vaccination at the beginning of 2021, a total of 12.4M vaccines have been administered, from 1st dose to 3rd dose.
The situation was fully controlled in this past year 2021, and we felt safe and comfortable roaming outside again despite still having the virus around.
But the Christmas season came in December 2021 again and we have seen a few positive cases. Although it was below 10, it was enough for the government to take control of the situation again and for the residents to take more safety precautions.
The cases decreased not until the Chinese New Year season. Before CNY, the positive cases slowly increased again and so the government put the classes back to online classes for the safety of the students.
Unfortunately, the positive cases suddenly spiked right after the Chinese New Year season as you can see in the data below. February 14 had shown to have the most cases with almost 1,500. And as of February 19, 2022, the total cases increased to 22,128 with 258 deaths since the start. Covid.
And just this Sunday, the whole citizens were surprised and got more worried when the news came out and informed everyone that the positive cases climbed high like a bolt from the blue.
According to the news this Sunday, the positive cases had increased by 6,067, and 6,055 of them were locally transmitted, while 12 came from other countries, giving a total of 52,830. The news also said that 19 died which made the total death 305 since the start of Covid.
From 6,067 last Sunday, another news came out this Monday stating that all new cases increased to 7,533, and 3 of which were imported. And what's saddening was another 16 death cases including the 11-month old baby which is said to be the youngest Covid-19 casualty and the third young death case in the past 2 weeks.
And according to Geodata.gov.hk, since the start of Covid in 2019, the status is as follows:
Confirmed: 26,038
Asymptomatic: 3,825
Re-positive: 10
Tested Positive: 60,363
Hospitalized: 3,803
Critical: 16
Died: 321
In the past 3 years, this has been the most critical year for Hong Kong and with the help of China government, the country is in real battle mode against Covid imposing necessary protocols and regulations to protect the lives of Hong Kong people. And due to the sudden escalating cases of Covid, some experts from mainland China came to Hong Kong to help the officials control the Covid outbreak. Protocols were tightened and resources were added such as vaccines, medical supplies including traditional medicines from China, masks, and more hotels will be made as isolation facilities for symptomatic patients. The quarantine period was set to 14 days.
We are advised to stay at home as much as possible, apply social distancing measures, and avoid crowded places when going out since cases are still rising daily. Bringing a covid vaccine pass is even necessary as other restaurants won't allow us to enter without showing the covid pass. Citizens should have at least one vaccine to be able to enter other establishments and restaurants.
As citizens of Hong Kong, what we could only help is to follow the protocols and avoid unnecessary social contact for our own sake and others.
Wherever you are, keep safe guys!

Kawawa nga mga OFW jan e. Pag na COVID termination agad tas pinapaalis talaga ng mga employer. Un ang sabi sa report. Pano kung un employer ang source ng virus?
Ingat jan lagi.
