What Did I Learn From a Missing Cat?
In our current timeline, we treat domesticated animals as part of our family. We acknowledge the fact that like humans, animals have basic necessities; food, water, and shelter. When they got sick, we’re doing something to help them recover. Actually, to summarize my point, we treat our pets like humans.Â
According to a study, animal domestication started a long way ago, especially in dogs. Our ancestors used them for survival, especially in hunting foods. While as we began to settle down and discovered agriculture as another source of food, we attracted mice as pests. Since then, wild cats have been roaming the town's storehouses in search of these nuisances. People found them to be helpful in pest control. This relationship between cats and humans continued for decades and our species eventually get used to it. So, basically, cats domesticated themselves. What a queen hahaha.Â
Right now, we don’t use dogs and cats for our survival anymore. Although there are still people who still look at them as animals who need to serve their purpose, we can’t deny that there are majority who treat them as something special; something that we can live without.
Given that we treat them as something special, what will you do if your pet goes missing?Â
While I was scrolling on my TikTok, I saw a video where the creator shared several posts of a cat owner on a Facebook group. It says, she’s finding her cat and she is willing to give a reward to anyone who can help her to find it.Â
The owner posted around late December 2021 with the reward of $60 or P3,000. The heartbreaking part is the owner keeps on posting every day, increasing the reward but is still not able to find the cat. Her last post, according to the posted video, is June 11, 2022, with reward money of $600 or P30,000.Â

What did I realize after watching the video?
At a young age, I got exposed to an environment where cats and dogs are being taken care of. Maybe this influenced my personality to be more inclined toward these kinds of animals. Today, I have a pet dog and I'm hoping to adopt a cat in the near future if my parents will allow me :).
Watching the video above, I realized that the relationship between humans and animals is already beyond what we can think of — that we will do everything just to have them back.
With our ancestors treating them as something beneficial to their survival, it evolved into a relationship where both parties can understand each other's emotions.Â
As a pet owner, I observed that one of the reasons why we get attached to our pets is because we can feel that our pets love us despite what kind of person we are, what is our current social status, what is our past, etcetera. They accept who we are.Â
I am not a perfect person, I have past mistakes that I still regret now. But despite those mistakes, my dog makes me feel that it won't change my value as a person. They still love me with who I really am.Â
Another thing is, that pets are always ready to listen. When we share something with them, they will just listen without any judgment. After that, they will comfort us with their adorable faces hahaha. They don't care how explosive your past is, as long as you will give them food, they will keep it a secret 😆. Â
People should learn how human and animal relationships work.Â
That's right. We should learn how animals treat their people.Â
In today's world, humans tend to judge someone with an ugly past. They hate certain individuals without knowing the real reason. We let someone feel that they don't deserve to be loved.Â
Animals, on the other hand, do it differently. This is maybe the reason why the Creator gave them an exceptional emotional understanding but didn't give them the ability to talk. Maybe we can learn from them — spread love to everyone and shut our mouths when we need to.Â
This is just my reflection after watching that Tiktok video. I asked myself why would you spend my time, energy, and that huge of money just for a missing cat. It turns out that it is not about a cat, it's about the relationship she formed with her pet. For her, maybe that cat is her family.Â
