2 Ways to Crochet Sunflowers for Valentine's Day Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Some of you might be thinking of some inexpensive gift ideas for your loved one. Well, if you have a crochet hook and some yarns lying around your house, this article might be helpful to you. The two patterns I have here is great and easy to follow so beginners can also do them. Just make sure to know the basic terms and how to do: magic ring, single crochet, slip stitch, double crochet, triple crochet, and chains. These are all US terms so make sure you are studying US crochet terms instead of the UK ones. Before anything else though, let us discuss the materials we will be needing for today's crochet projects. Materials 4 ply Indophil Acrylic Yarn (Brown, and Yellow) 6/0 or 3.50mm crochet hook A pair of scissors Tapestry needle That is all that you will need. Pretty easy to get right? Sunflower 1 Crochet Pattern

***Using brown yarn:*** Make a magic ring. Put 6 single crochet stitches inside the magic ring. Slip stitch to the first stitch to close the ring. Put 2 single crochet stitches in each stitch. This round must have 12 stitches in total. Follow the pattern: 1 single crochet in the first stitch then 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch. Repeat until the end. The round will have 18 single crochet stitches in total. Slip stitch, and fasten off. ***Using yellow yarn:*** Tie the yellow yarn to the last stitch of the circle. This can be done by using yiur crochet hook to pull the yarn in the stitch and tying it or by slip stitch. Follow the pattern: double crochet, triple crochet, 2 chains, slip stitch on top of the triple crochet, triple crochet, and double crochet all in one stitch. This counts as one sunflower petal. Slip stitch to the next stitch. Then repeat the pattern until the end. Slip stitch to the last stitch and fasten off. Using the tapestry needle, make sure to hide the excess yarns. Sunflower 2 Crochet Pattern

The first steps of this pattern is the same as the one above. But I will still copy it for the reader's benefit. ***Using brown yarn:*** Make a magic ring. Put 6 single crochet stitches inside the magic ring. Slip stitch to the first stitch to close the ring. Put 2 single crochet stitches in each stitch. This round must have 12 stitches in total. Follow the pattern: chain three, double crochet, chain one, slip stitch at the top of the double crochet stitch, chain 3, slip stitch at the same stitch. This will count as one petal. Repeat the pattern until the end. On the last stitch, slip stitch to the first stitch and then fasten off. Hide the excess yarns by using the tapestry needle to sew it onto the stitches. Side by Side Comparison

This is the side by side comparison of the crochet sunflowers we did today. They can be added in other projects like bucket hats, bags or even clothes. One may even use it as a key chain or sew it onto a hair tie. Or you can add a long green chain and use it as a bookmark. If you add a strong stem, it can be the foundation for a simple sunflower bouquet. There are so many possibilities on how one can use such simple pattern to add more life to your crochet projects. If you want to give your loved ones something to brighten their days, then I am sure than most would appreciate handmade items especially when a handwritten letter is included. But I might change my mind in the future, who knows?
