Hello read-ers! Taking a break from the usual and peeping in. Just have to tap this real quick else it will be whole day in my head. Sorry not a travel post.. hahah
The scene starts with the view hovering over a sepia-toned day in the woods. You can hear the panting of someone running, the rustle of the wind, the padded sound of bare foot hitting dry ground, bare foot crunching on leaves.
The scene changes view to following the running kid - a girl around ten years old or so. The focus was on the path she is running on. The dirt path already had the memory of the vehicles that passed it. The trail already had bald lines of brown bare ground and this is what she is following. Following to where? She does not even know. All she knows she has to run. Far. Tall trees line up the sides of the trail following each bend. The trees only have few leaves on it mostly dried. Some greens but barely hanging on its tried branch.
You can see the strides she is taking.
Left foot.
Right foot.
Left foot.

In rapid alternate succession. You can still hear her heavy breathing. You can hear something else in every heave : Fear? Panic? Confusion? . . Fear.
[scene change: top view]
"Ugh!"
The muffled scream of pain from the girl was slightly audible and the thump of her small body as it hit the ground. She tripped on a stone barely visible. She did not dare scream out the pain she feels on her now throbbing toe.
Staggeringly, she got up again and almost stumbling again but finally got up and started again for another sprint with a painful limp on her right leg.
What is she running away from?
Where is she going?
Not too far, she hears the roar of water falling from a high place and hitting rocks on its way down. That sounds refreshing.
She mustered up the courage to run farther and quickly. She does feel parched and would like to drink some. No she would want to dive into the deep water of wherever that sound is coming from.
She stopped a while. She looked down at her soiled dress. It has lots of brown - dust, dirt and what's that? Red? There is red. Blood? Dried. Where did it come from?
Shaking, she looked at her hands. It was bloodied too. She can't remember getting herself cut or anything when she fell earlier. Where did that come from? Then scenes from few hours ago that morning.
[flash back]
She woke up in a dark room with only a ray of faint sunrise light coming from the solo window of a cabin she cannot remember how she got in. She was out of breath. She has pain all over her small body. As her eyes adjusted a crumpled lump of something was near her foot. She staggered to to move back as she realizes it was a body. There was a pool of blood around it and she saw something sticking out from the middle of the lump. A dagger handle it seems. With something gold inscribed on it. It looks very familiar but she cannot recall any.
[regain back to the run scene]
She gasped. Did she do that? What did happen? Who was that? No answers. Painfully and with her vision blurring from the realization. She gathered up her strength and started running again. She wanted to scream but she does not want to disturb the morning peace of the woods. Besides, everything seems calm and harmonious -except for her.
Run.
Run.
Then she finds herself on a cliff. She can see the huge waterfall on the other side. The large pool of water and a river stretching right below her. Is it deep? She does not know. But in all her being, that huge monster in her was more than willing to feel the cold, refreshing water below. She moved back a little. Made a run for it towards the edge of the cliff and pushed herself off it.
What is she doing?
She made a good jump - arms out, dive and plunged into the deep water safe.
How did she even know how to dive right? What in the world?
Slowly feeling the refreshing water wash all the dirt and stain of the dried blood. She surfaced on the cool water. Treading. Turned into a back float. Looked up the white sky. And for that time, the confusion, fear and the anger that came with her turned to a sob. But with her in the water, the sound of the loud drop of water from the falls, the current slowly pushing her downstream, she feels safe, comforted and free. She allows the stream to carry her to nowhere. She feels recharged every minute. She is alive and she will live. That horrific scene worthy of the nightmare prize, she decides to tuck deep.
Nothing happened.

Very well written. 😉 I hope I can also make a story as good as this. I am not so good in making short novels.
