Image Source. https://www.pexels.com/photo/man-in-red-polo-shirt-sitting-near-chalkboard-3779448/ How often do you listen to others? Do you always want to speak, get your message across without paying attention to what others are saying? Do you read between the lines and listen even to their silence? Human nature always wants to speak because we have this desire to always be right and be heard. We want others to listen to us but we won't take as much energy to listen to them. It's more frustrating when you are talking and the other person is always interjecting your words. That is the point you need to know the other person is doing the power tussle thing; they would rather desire to be right than to be wrong. Most people don't even listen in silence because the voices in their heads are so loud. They always want to speak, forgetting that you can pass your message across, even in silence. There is a time to speak and there is a time to listen. Maybe when we listen more, we can learn to be better rather than trying to force our opinions on others because we want to be heard. Never hold anyone by the shirt to be heard and the moment you get to that point, you had better hold your tongue than them. Most people think there is wisdom in the multitude of words but sadly, that's not the case. You might be famous and that doesn't make you relevant just as you might be cute which doesn't necessarily make you funny. Just because you speak Latin doesn't mean you know how to speak, so because you always speak doesn't mean there is wisdom in all that you say, so, learn to take a step back and listen more. There is a big difference between humility and low self-esteem and being humble means you are not thinking of yourself more than you ought to while low self-esteem means you are thinking of yourself lesser than you ought to. To listen is a sign of humility because those who listen have a better chance of learning more than those who just want to speak. The more we listen, the more we can be humbled when we open our hearts to understand and learn and the faster we take the lessons to heart.
Image Source. https://www.pexels.com/photo/woman-discussing-with-her-colleagues-1181415/ Listening is a very rare trait and that's why we have more speakers than listeners. I have said many times that most people don't necessarily need money or our help per se, they just needed someone to listen to them. There is this relief and comfort that comes with it when we know others are listening to us to get a load off our chest and not because we just want to be right...but to be heard which comes with having the right attitude to things. If you want to win the heart of anyone, make them go the extra mile for you, learn to listen to them. I understand that we are all different and we have those who simply just want to lord things over you by forcing you to listen. To that kind of person, the art of listening would lose its purpose. Listening is for those who are not forceful - so naturally, we listen more to those who go about stating their case without attacking the person but addressing the situation. It's natural for people to feel they are being overlooked because no one is listening to them. We all want to feel relevant and have that sense of worth. Our hearts naturally draw near to those who are willing to give us a listening ear but it has to be both ways too because that is the way of life; we listen and others listen to us as well. Life is about listening; to others and being listened to. Good listeners, tend to hear more than what's being said. They tend to understand issues more even though most people want to talk, believing you don't understand the depth of the matter. We don't have to always talk and nature is always speaking to us as well. There is beauty in listening to the chirping of the birds, taking advice, listening to the voice of reason and even the cry of a baby as it raises your mind to urgency. Oh! I love sweet whispers too because it goes deep into your heart and it's only for your ears. Try and listen to the sound of the wind too then you will understand both sides of life; fear and delight. Listening makes us think clearly because it has never been and should never be about being right but accurately judging the situation. I have spoken about the need for balance some days back and that's why we need to strike a balance between speaking and listening. Listening is good, speaking is necessary too but we need to find the right balance as we can't always talk and sometimes we can't always listen too, especially when what's being said is of no value to us. We have to listen to filter while also speaking to address. It takes a lot of courage for others to speak to us and that's why we need to learn to listen. We don't have to always agree to what's being said but we should respect the right of everyone to speak. *Thank you for your time.* Kindly follow me on **Noise.Cash**... You must learn to listen well if you don't you end up hearing the other way round
Absolutely.
Sometimes, some people would want to impress others with words and their eloquence and at the end they accomplish the opposite. I personally find a loquacious fellow boring... Listening shows strength abd discipline
I love this... It's how's strength and discipline. That's so true.
My dad always tells me that the art of speaking is listening and now I understand why. Currently I want to study psychology because since I was a girl I have seen how I can spend hours listening to others without any problem
It's a good trait to have and glad you are putting it into good use. That's smart.
Life is about been listen . Listen to others and they will listen to you too hmmm I really need to put these in mind π
I am glad. Thanks, brother.
Listening requires hearing power. I always consider myself fortunate to have my hearing sensors okay. Think about Helen Keller, who used to touch peoples' throats while they spoke so that she could sense what they were saying! She also didn't have functioning eye sensors to see how people looked while speaking!
Wow. What a trait she has picked up there. Some people are naturally listeners and for others, it's something they can learn.
I will share some pics of Helen Keller. Those are so inspirational.
That would be nice. Thank you.
I think I was brought up to be the listening type and it is something my younger siblings do as well, even at home my mom wouldn't allow us to intrude on conversation except when asked questions. People think talking always makes everyone know you are wise but we can talk a lot and still make no sense. Another thing about listening is that it makes you understand more and that's a bonus to what you know if the loud person among you is making sense.
Spot on, brother. Most people just make noise and still, they won't understand the basic thing being said.
Listening to sounds of nature can calm our soul, and seems have a power and we find peace. Well that'a for me. And yeah I love whisper tooπ, it makes me "kilig". Kidding aside. Yeah, having someone to listen was really a great as it takes the negative emotions we felt. Thus not all have this "skills" as it's hard to trully listen. If you have someone in your life, youre lucky then.
Hahahahaha I guess I would find a way to whisper to you through a voice note hahaha. Absolutely, there is this peace and calm that comes with it.
Hahahaha, let's see. That's is why I love going home in my hometown, I always find peace It was in the countryside. So all you can hear are sound of nature.
Beautiful sounds of nature. β£οΈ
Listening is very significant in our lives, we listen before we speak out, we listen before we learn something, we listen and gain knowledge on things we are not sure of. Even God always listened to our silent prayers then we should too. Because life is always be like that.
Another interesting perspective. Thanks a lot for this.
Your welcome ola!

Everybody wants to be heard but only a few is willing to listen sincerely.
Yes, my friend.
Yeah ,I can relate to what you're saying, most times when I speak I always focus my attention on those who are listening to me, because I'm i feel delighted that people are willing to listen to the information I'm passing across but at the same way, learning how to listen when people talk will help to acquire more knowledge, just like you said, we listen to filter and speak to address, everything is just about balancing. Listening will make us know the right step to follow when it comes to an issue that needs resolution, being in a haste to talk might not yield a positive results. When we listen , we'll have the tendency to think about the right response to give.
That's right. Someone said we need to be wary of those who know the answer before a question is asked. Listening helps us to evaluate and understand things better.
Exactly....but some people are lacking I'm that aspect , they only want to be heard and they don't want to listen to others opinion.
Life has her way of humbling such people.
Listening is one of the essential thing a man should always do, my dad would tell me, if you want to know everyone secret, listen more and talk less, even proverb approve of a wise man to listen more, and that's the only way one could learn
Dad has seen it all, he is a wise man and he understands that secret. It's the best way; listening more than speaking.
Listening is more fun, you hear even the things unsaid. Talking is tiring and distracting, making you miss out on things
I totally agree. It distracts us from the things we should know and do.
Listening is a skill I think, it comes naturally to some people to listen more and speak less but for others it has to be practiced. Reading through this I realise I do need to work at that skill and listen more, not just listening to say yes I have heard what you're saying but listening to understand, learn and be able to give the right response if necessary. You are right when you say some people just want to be listened too, you don't have to say or do anything extra but just sit, focus and hear them out, it does feel relieving to share with someone who's willing to really listen to you. It definitely isn't always about being right or speaking the most or the loudest but its about effectively communicating to understand in order to know how to respond and react.
You have a perfect understanding of this post. Thank you for this amazing comment.
Everyone wants to talk, no one is ready to listen. If everyone is claiming to be right, who then is wrong? These things sucks. Listening is a very rare trait. We should learn to listen more and talk less. Cause listeners tend to understand things better and hear dipper.
I absolutely love this. Thank you for this.
