Oh What A Shame to be a Filipino Now

Avatar for LucyStephanie

Never in my entire life have I ever thought I would be ashamed to be a Filipino until yesterday. Yes the Philippines is now the butt of jokes of the entire world. How disgusting, the way the national election has turned out. I don't even want to live here anymore but hey better suck it up even if it's vomit inducing.

Looks like 2022 just became the Nightmare Mode. After 2020's Hard Mode life setting we have now entered a much worse scenario. And I even think Dan Brown's Inferno is finally becoming a reality. Remember "gates of hell = Manila"? Haha, who's laughing now?

For those who are unaware, Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., who rebranded his name into BBM for Bongbong Marcos, seems to be the clear winner in the just finished May 9 national election. He is the son of the late dictator of the Philippines who has a Guinness World Record of Greatest Robbery of a Government. But of course you won't find that on the Guinness website anymore. It has been hidden, perhaps because the Marcos camp complained about it or paid them to get rid of it. What's new eh? We all know how money can buy people's dignity.

It's just a matter of time, perhaps other media outlets will be the next ones to hide such information about the dead dictator and his family. Haha. The world seems to be going backwards even with all the technology we have now.

Marcos supporters keep saying to move on but they are the ones who have not moved on as well. Look at how they keep on harping about "the good old days" when it was filled with horror stories of not having any freedom of speech as we have today.

You can do your own research and see for yourself what's out there. I am tired of writing and sharing all those information about how the Marcoses should not even be voted in government. The majority of Filipinos have no ears and eyes, BBM's supposed victory is proof of that.

One online friend even said we have the "battered wife syndrome". I say the Filipino people have been duped and manipulated by the most corrupt and narcissistic family of all time. If you don't know about gaslighting, manipulation and all that then you have not suffered in the hands of such people yet. Or the biggest problem is you are not aware at all. You are kept in the dark and have no clue whatsoever despite reading and hearing about it.

Even if many people have watched and seen the 2016 Vice Presidential Debate of CNN Philippines, it has no effect this time. The online fake news machinations have been around since 2014 according to a local data analyst.

Timothy Snyder on The Daily Show, posted on Facebook Jan. 12, 2021.

Clearly the Marcos supporters are the only ones happy now. They jeer, mock and laugh at those who are depressed and shocked about the turn of events. They demanded respect for voting their corrupt presidential and depressing senatorial choices but they also have no respect for those who prefer a better tomorrow.

The "fight" was/is not just about the past graft and corruption and embezzlement that has only been partly retrieved. It's also about the number of human rights violations, the tortured and murdered people and everything else in between that have not been addressed by their family at all.

Sometimes it is better to be ignorant because you won't have to think about whatever will affect you and your family's life at all. It is painful to see the choices most people make. It is tiring to fight for what is considered right and true. Oh no, it's not for the faint of heart.

Kudos to the ones who are able to keep the flame burning. Just like the Katipuneros during the Spanish occupation or the HukBaLaHap during the Japanese invasion, the fight is not over yet. For now I just cannot be happy about how humanity chooses the wrong and justify it to be the right thing.

Ah what a shame to be living in this country, yes it is physically beautiful but the people... Ah the people. It's also sad to have the feeling and thoughts that it's better to migrate to another country. But there is no grass greener on the other side, there is only the pros and cons anywhere you go. 💔

XOXO,

@LucyStephanie

I feel you. And it breaks my heart how majority of our countrymen were manipulated to believe that choosing the person they did will be good for the country. We've already suffered so much indignity the past six years, it is unfathomable what more is in store for us. Move on from what they owe? That is something I cannot and will not do.

Indeed. There is no such place as utopia where everything we want will be. All we can do is endure.

I don't think the others will agree to let him sit as president though. Look at all the rallies.

Agree. It makes me sad to see how many were blinded and just casually ignore the past but we have nothing to do with the results. Let's just unite and pray for our country. Win or loss it is not enough reason to mock under the belt, i pray for better Philippines.

Yeah. How can it be better when the first thing we see is the next education secretary is someone who's not even qualified to be one? Sad life.
