The Story of Jai He was diagnosed with a lung illness in 2021, stayed in hospital bed for three (3) days and had to pay PHP80,000.00 ($1,600.00) for medical bills. He had to rest for almost a month and lost majority of his savings because of medical expenses. But after three months, he was able to buy a new car. **“Successful people don’t fear failure but understand that it’s necessary to learn and grow from.”** -Robert Kiyosaki Good day fellow read cash members! I hope you are doing great. My busy schedule is what keeps me from being able to write for several days. This is the common scenario in my work. At the start of the third quarter of the year, more tasks started to flow in. Especially now that we have a new administration, we are expecting changes in the policies and programs. Well, anyway allow me to share with you this success story of this young man. When he was just five (5) years old, kids from the neighborhood won’t allow him to play ***pogs*** or ***milk caps game*** with them. Probably because he was younger and he has no pogs of his own. The next time, I noticed that he was cleaning some pogs using a damp cloth then let it dry under the sun. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_caps_(game) Pogs are flat round board used in the game where players will slam the pogs stacked up in layer until they flip down.  Players will take turn in slamming the pogs using another pog. The player will collect those pogs that flip and whoever gets the most pogs wins the game. This was the common game being played by young boys in the neighborhood during that time. I asked him where he get the pogs and he said some kids throw them because they were already dirty. He decided to get them and have them clean so that the next time he could be allowed to play with them. I saw him practicing the game alone. Then the following day, he asked permission to go out.  Saw him holding some pogs, around 8 to 10 pogs, I guess. So, I thought that he will come back in an hour or so because he will certainly lost all those pogs to the other children. But it is nearly lunch time and he doesn’t came back yet. So I tried to call him. He came in and eat his lunch then go out again. I was wondering what was keeping him out all day so I tried to look for him. I saw him playing pogs with other kids, so I thought that was okay at least they play with him this time. At around 3:45 in the afternoon, he came in with a large plastic bag. I asked him what’s inside and showed it to me. The plastic was filled with pogs. “I collected all their pogs,” he said. He kept the pogs at the cabinet under the sink and I never saw him play that game again. At that young age, I already saw his ability and I already know from that day that he will have a great future ahead of him. As he grows older, I can see this character trait in my son. He won’t stop until he didn’t master a game. After graduating from college, he worked in a government agency as a job order. After the contract ended, he spend time playing games in Time Zone located in a mall near our place. Then I saw him selling items such as rice cooker, electric fans, stuff toys and even television set. He told me that he got those items from playing in Time Zone. After several months, he was hired on another government agency, that’s a permanent position and until now he is still working in that office. In 2021, after a year of working in the government agency, he started coughing after coming home from a field work. He was using his motorcycle and probably, he got wet by the rain and that’s when he started to feel sick. We rushed him to the hospital and found out about the lung ailment. He stayed with the hospital for three days but he can’t still go to work because he need further rest. Since he need to stay at home most of the time, he again had plenty of time to explore the cryptocurrency world. He found a game Monsta Infinite (MONI) and started to learn more about it. Using the medical benefit he got from a certain government agency, he started to invest on this game. After a month of rest, he was reinstated in his job but still managed to be active on the new game. I thought it was just another game he used to play so I didn’t give it much attention. After two more months, he told me he is planning to buy a car. So, I asked him how he is going to pay for it considering that his salary might not be enough to pay for a monthly amortization of a car. Apart from that, he is also paying a big amount for his MP2. He told me he will buy in cash. He said he already withdrawn part of the money from the game and it is enough to pay for a car. I was amazed by his ability. He still have that skill which I observed when he was still young. As of now, he is still exploring the crypto world and he even influenced his girlfriend to start with crypto. Though we have different ways in earning, the three of us are crypto earners and investors. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is not for promotional intent rather for informational purposes only and should not be considered as a financial advice. Happy to Help a Friend I was already invited for many times in different events and activities as a resources speaker. But among the different municipalities in our province, it was the local government unit of my hometown which invited me most often. I once mentioned it to my colleague who happens to be a close friend. She told me that she also want to come with me when I would be invited again. So when the person in-charged, the GAD Focal Person of the local government unit asked me if I can discuss about the GAD assessment tools. I told her that I want my colleague to be invited too. So she said, it’s okay. My colleague has been in the service ahead of me and has a higher position.  She will be retiring in the next few years but she is still struggling with her finances. Maybe that is because two of her sons are still dependent on her. Though she has a higher position and definitely with a higher salary than me, her problems on money is on another level. I am not sure if it is because of the way she handles her finances or I just have more side hustles. Perhaps it is also because I have a slightly advanced knowledge on technology especially with the use of internet. That is apart from frequents invitations as a resource speakers on various occasions. When the invitation from the LGU was received by the office, I immediately informed her so she can prepare ahead of time. I gave her a ready-made presentation for her topic so she can devote on other strategies during the training. I also downloaded videos to support our discussions. Given a choice, I prefer to work alone and to implement my own strategies, but I know my friend needs additional fund so I requested for her inclusion in the invitation. Besides, she is my friend so I want to share with her whatever blessings I receive. A day before the training, we had our conference and I reminded her of the activity on the following morning. I was trying to talk to her so that we could discuss our manner of presentation but she seem to be so busy. Before we go home, I tried to approach her again but she told me that the group invited her to go out, she said they will go to videoke house. I can’t do anything because maybe she already know the topic so well. I just went home and reviewed my presentation. It was nearly midnight when I finished reviewing and decided to go to sleep. The next morning, she came to the house early and for some reason, I forgot to bring my laptop which I discovered when we were already at the venue. But the issue was resolved before the start of the activity. https://read.cash/@cinderella/when-you-forgot-the-most-important-thing-4c0e4352 After the short opening program, we started with the training proper. The activity was attended by the different head of offices and the technical working group. It was successful activity though I was not completely satisfied because she didn’t prepared well for the workshop. Added to my annoyance was when she didn’t bring any clothes. Instead of taking a rest after the activity, I still need to drive home. Of course, I was also thinking about the price of the gasoline and the local government unit already prepared an accommodation. Because she is my close friend, I need to be patient. Besides I understand that when we get older, we tend to be forgetful, so instead of arguing, I just try to forget about it. We drove home and we went back to the venue on the following day. Another topic was discussed on the second day. I think she studied well her part last night so she was able to deliver the topic better. Besides, she is knowledgeable about this topic because she used to discuss it in other activities before. It was a great presentation and the mayor of the municipality gave thanks to us. Before we go home, we were awarded with certificate and an honorarium. It was in an envelope so we did not open it while at the venue. We bid goodbye to the mayor, the GAD focal person of the local government unit and other local officials. While at the car, my friend tried to open her envelope. She was delighted to see the honorarium given to her. She can’t stop giving thanks to me for allowing her to come with me in that activity. She told me that she will be using the money for the tuition fee of her son who is taking up bachelor of laws. I’m also happy that somehow, I was able to help a friend. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is not for promotional intent rather for informational purposes only and should not be considered as a financial advice. When You Forgot the Most important Thing I’ve got an invitation to discuss GAD Audit using the Gender Mainstreaming and Evaluation Framework (GMEF), Gender Responsive Local Government Units (GerL) and Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) from a certain local government unit in our province. A colleague and friend was included in the invitation. It was not the first time that I was invited as a speaker in an event. I was used to speak on various events but I gender and development was the most frequent topic I talk about. Other topics that I accept were leadership trainings, topics involving women and children such as violence against women and their children, children’ months, etc. **Suggested Reading:** *How I Managed a Stress Management Seminar* https://read.cash/@cinderella/how-i-managed-a-stress-management-seminar-7981c632 I have been working on the presentation since last week. I made research and thankfully, last night I was able to finish the presentation. I reviewed the presentation I created and I slept at around 11:45 PM. This morning, I woke up at 5:00 in the morning and decided to bring the clothes I needed and placed it on the compartment of the car before I drink my coffee and had some egg pie which I bought from the bakeshop yesterday. I’m almost ready when my friend came. It was 7:00 o’clock in the morning just as we agreed upon yesterday. I immediately picked up my things and off we went. While travelling to the venue, we were still discussing how we will go about with the discussion. After exchange of ideas, we agreed that I will make the introduction, then she will discuss the GerL. After that, I will discuss the GMEF and will facilitate the workshop. Then tomorrow, we will discuss and facilitate the HGDG.   We were at the venue at 8:30 AM. I managed to park the vehicle at the back of the municipal building. I get out of the car, and opened the door at the back to get my things. My laptop was not there! I opened the compartment hoping that I placed it there. It was not there either. I began to get worried. But managed to calm down while thinking of a solution. I immediately called my son via Facebook messenger. After three rings, he answered. Looks like he just woke up. I told him I am already at the venue but my laptop was not with me. I was trying to ask him to bring the laptop at the venue but he said that they have to go to another municipality and he will be the one to drive so he cannot bring my laptop. Besides, it will take him at least an hour to reach the venue. So, I had to think of another way. My presentation which took me days to finish was at my laptop. I can’t go home and come back again because it was almost 9:00 AM. We should have started if not with this issue. I told him to send the files to my email. He immediately complied and soon I received the files and downloaded it to the available laptop at the venue. Though I was already sweating a lot despite the cold temperature inside the venue, I still managed to do my part. After the opening program, I presented the overview of the activity that we are about to conduct. After which, my colleague started her discussion. We also played videos to give more information on the subject discussed by my friend. Then, it was my turn to discuss. It was a discussion on an assessment process that needs to be done in relation with gender and development specifically on gender mainstreaming. Before we had a break for lunch, I distributed the assessment materials for the workshop which is to be done in the afternoon. In the afternoon, I continue with the discussion and facilitated the workshop. My colleague helped me in giving the analysis of the result of the mock assessment. When I told my colleague that we will be staying in a hotel for the night, she said she did not bring any clothes because she thought that we will be going home after the activity. Even if I don’t have plan of going home considering that the price of gasoline is expensive, I can’t do anything but to go home. So after the activity, we drove back home. Upon reaching home, I found my laptop bag on top of my bed. I remembered, I was already holding it this morning and I don’t know what happened that I forgot to bring it. This was the first time that I forgot my laptop. Since the time I bought it, I never been separated with it. We are inseparable and I consider it as my work buddy. I know it’s a sign of aging. I was just thankful that my son was still at home when I called. I am also thankful that we already have this new technology. Because of what happened, I realized that I need to be careful next time around. I should always have a back-up of my presentations so I won’t get anxious when I failed to bring my laptop. So, that’s my unforgettable experience for this day. Tomorrow will be our second and last day and hoping to have a successful activity. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is not for promotional intent rather for informational purposes only and should not be considered as a financial advice. Should We Earn More or Spend Less? Did you ever come to a point of asking yourself where did your money goes? Many of us are working on at least two jobs just to earn more. Not to mention some investment activities and side hustles that we have to get an additional income. But despite all of these, there may come a time when we need to ask ourselves, what am I doing wrong? I’m sure many can relate to this situation. Let me share with you some useful tips in order to minimize spending and increase our savings. I am an advocate of earning more or not relying on one source of income for I believe that the more sources of income we have, the better our life would be. One the other hand, I realized that no matter how big our income is, yet we don’t know how to minimize our spending, it is like collecting water in a pail with a hole. Our Effort is Insignificant Unless We Learn to Spend Less My salary has a notable increase in 2021 after I was promoted with 5 salary grades in my regular job. It was a whopping 85% increase or almost double than my previous salary. It would have been a good development in my career and more disposable income. But the problem is my expenses also increased significantly. Some expenses were due to expectations from close relatives who would think that because I was promoted, I already have a very high salary and they can come to me whenever they wanted and I will give them money. Additionally, my children started to became lenient in their spending habits. They would buy things out of control and they would come to me whenever they are short of money. The utilities also increased because they weren’t so mindful of the things they are using such as leaving the lights even when no one is using or forgetting to turn off the electric fan which keeps running for hours when no one is around. The frequent eating out and food deliveries also contributed to the increased in expenses. The result – I ran out of cash and I almost failed to pay the utilities. Expenses Review and Budget Restructuring Don’t wait for things to go wrong before doing the expenses review and budget restructuring. Though if you have experienced being out of cash due to higher expenses than what you earn, this is a good start for you. Many people are caught in the cycle of earning, spending and paying debt. What could be the reason? Simple. We spend more than we earn. I am sharing this video that it can be helpful in identifying the reasons why we spend more than we earn and probably enlighten us to make the right decision that will help us reach our financial goals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duyPlK8MwVQ *Video Credits:* *The Humble Penny* https://www.youtube.com/c/TheHumblePenny Review Our Expenses Starting today, let's make a list of expenses. It is very timely as we are starting a new month. It doesn’t matter how small or big the expense. Example, milk tea, a new phone, a new bag, new clothes, a bag of laundry powder, bread, shampoo, conditioner, etc. Classify them as to needs or wants. We can fold the paper in half then we can write all the "NEEDS" on the first half and all the "WANTS" on the second half. From there, we can track every single penny that we spend our money to. At the end of the month, we will be able to tell where our money goes. Our next step would to analyze what we can do to minimize our expenses. This can be done by creating a budget. Create a Budget Having a plan on what to do with our money is a must. We need to identify our priorities. I have written about creation of budget and sticking into it here: **Suggested Reading:** Save More With a Small Income https://read.cash/@cinderella/save-more-with-a-small-income-4be464e6 Cut Unnecessary Expenditures There are many things that we usually buy that we don't really need such as extended warranties, gym membership and cable subscriptions. It's about time to take a look into these and decided which we could give up. Buy Quality When trying to save, it does not mean that we should not shop for the things that we need or want. But we can opt to buy quality items that could serve us longer. Be In Control I mentioned about those people, relatives or not that are expecting too much from us. People whom we couldn't say NO and would end up taking advantage of the situation. We could shell out some cash if we have excess money. But what usually happen is that even we only have enough, we are afraid to say no because we don't want to hurt their feelings in one way or another. It's about time that we slowly train these people that we cannot always give what they need. Saying no is not being selfish but necessary for our own wellbeing. On the final thought... Living and having only what we need is called minimalism. Not only that it will save us money but it will also save us time and effort on organizing. It's good if we could get away with having too many stuff that we don't need. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is not for promotional intent rather for informational purposes only and should not be considered as a financial advice. It’s Time to Earn a Tax-Free Dividend With MP2 I am now on my second year with the Modified Pag-IBIG Program or more commonly known as ****MP2****. I started last year and I am setting aside some amount every month because I want to build my savings portfolio. I will be using part of the amount to fund a business and another part for my retirement. It is said that the best time to save and invest was yesterday and the second best time is now. I have been a member of Pag-ibig or the Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) more popularly known as Pag-IBIG since 2003. As an additional information, Pag-IBIG is an acronym which stands for Pagtutulungan sa Kinabukasan: Ikaw, Bangko, Industriya at Gobyerno. Just like SSS and GSIS, Pag-IBIG contribution is also mandatory to all employed individuals. For as low as Php 100.00 ($2.00) per month, we can already have a savings program that gives a good amount of dividend to its members. Not only that, as a member of Pag-IBIG, we are allowed to avail of their loan package which is equivalent to up to 80% of our TAV or the Total Accumulated Value during emergency or if we have projects which we need fund. **Suggested Reading:** ***Why We Should Force Ourselves to Save?*** https://read.cash/@cinderella/why-we-should-force-ourselves-to-save-c82d5739 Admittedly, when I entered the government service, it has been very difficult for me to save considering that I have to support my children by providing their basic needs as well as financing their education. Much as I wanted to set aside a certain amount, it seems that my take home pay was not even enough for our daily needs. I needed to take every earning opportunity that would come my way. It’s a good thing that online earning opportunities were already available during that time. I experienced working in a call review site, called Humanatic where I became an auditor and later on became a mediator. I also write for Bitlanders. These sites had helped me a lot financially until my children already finished their studies and started working. It was a great relief when my children started earning on their own. I decided to start with MP2. Even before, I already believe that this is a good program though my financial situation was still shaky during that time. Due to some queries regarding the program, I decided to write about my experience with MP2. Allow me to share with you this great savings program which I believe you should also have especially now that we are still strong and has the ability to work. What is MP2 **MP2 or Modified Pagibig** is a special savings program of the **Home Development Mutual Fund** (HDMF), a government owned and controlled corporation known for its various programs that are beneficial to the working class be it on private or government offices. They also accept voluntary members and overseas Filipino Workers or OFWs. MP2 is a 5-year savings program and offers annual dividend based on the income of the corporation. Meaning, we cannot withdraw our money anytime because it was locked for 5 years. The program has been implemented for several years and many Filipinos already experienced the benefits of joining this program. **Suggested Reading:** ***Save More With a Small Income*** https://read.cash/@cinderella/save-more-with-a-small-income-4be464e6 Why I Decided to Join This Program The program was launched in 2010 and much as I wanted to start during that time, my financial situation wasn’t that stable. It took me 11 years before I finally decided to create an account after I was promoted to the next position. I am already aware of the higher dividend of this program compared to the interest given by local banks in our area but I was only able to join the program last year. What Are the Benefits We Can Get From MP2 With MP2, we can get higher annual dividend which we can either be withdrawn every year or after the 5-year term. Who Can join the Program The program is open to all members of Pagibig, as well as former members and retirees and even those who are working outside the country of the OFWs. Is it safe? Since it is a government owned and controlled corporation, we can be assured that our money is safe. The program has been in existence for 12 years and it is continuously gaining positive feedback from the members who availed of this program. How much do I need to start with MP2 The minimum deposit is Php 500.00 ($10.00) and there is no limit on the amount we can save. We have the option to deposit on a monthly basis or a one-time lump sum amount. However if we opt to deposit and one-time payment in the amount of Php 500,000 ($10,000.00), we will be required to make such remittance via personal or manager’s check. Moreover, any deposit exceeding Php 100,000.00 ($2,000.00) shall be required to present a proof of income. *On the final thought…* MP2 is an investment program and we all know that any investment has a corresponding risk. So please be advised that before we enter into any investment program, we should read and learn about it. It is also imperative that we set aside first an emergency fund before entering in any investment program. This way, we will not waste the time and effort just in case we encounter some problems. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is not for promotional intent rather for informational purposes only and should not be considered as a financial advice. How Much Do You Need to Live Comfortably? Everyone wants to live a comfortable life. Though comfortable may have a different meaning for each and every one of us. Some people may consider life as comfortable when they can travel to different places at least once a month. Others may be happy if they can eat three times a day and have a roof over their head. Moreover, we live in different parts of the world and we may also have different views of being comfortable. Before you continue reading, what comes to your mind when you heard or see the phrase ***living comfortably***? Personally, I can say that living comfortably means that you don't have to think where you are going to get the amount you need for your next meal. You can go anywhere at the time you want. You can travel and have a vacation at any place that you want. You have a relaxing place that you would want to go home after work or whatever you do outside. In other words, living comfortably means we need money in order to achieve it. For the sake of this discussion, I would like to start with the basic needs and please allow me to use Philippines, our country as the reference point. ***So, how much do we really need in order to live comfortably in our country?*** The basic needs includes, shelter, food (to include water), and clothing. We need to pay the utilities such as electricity, water and internet bills. Additional needs transportation, recreation, health care, education. When we say comfortable we should have at the very least a place where we can rest and do our necessities. We should have a food on our table when we need it and clothing to keep us warm during the cold season or protection during at any given weather condition. Additionally, we need to consider our health, and if we have children which would mean additional expenses such as milk, diapers, and/or education. The Minimum Wage As of this year, the minimum wage in the Philippines is Php570 ($11.40). So , if an individual work for 6 day in a week, he/she will receive a monthly salary of Php 14, 820.00 ($296.40) excluding overtime payment is there is. Also, let us be reminded that there is a need to deduct mandatory contribution such SSS/GSIS, Philhealth, and withholding tax from the gross salary. Tax Minimum Wage earners are exempted from paying tax. So if you are earning Php250,000 annually and below, you will not be deducted of your tax though you still have to file an income tax return with the Bureau of Internal Revenue. So, after deducting the mandatory contributions, a minimum wage earners will receive a net take home pay of more or less Php14,000 ($280.00). Now, let’s see how much do we need for our daily existence. Basic Needs The prices of commodities are continuously increasing each year. So the prices from the previous year may not be the same as it is now. As we all know, the price of the gasoline had increased tremendously in the past month. This price movement will certainly affect the prices of other commodities. Food The price of one kilo of rice is 40-50 pesos depending on the quality. On the average, we consume one cup of rice every meal. If one kilo of rice could last for 3 or 4 days, you probably need at least 10 kilos for one whole month. That would cost approximately Php500.00 ($10.00) per month. You also need to consider the viand as you cannot eat rice alone. If you spend say, an amount of Php 30.00 per meal or 90 per day, you need approximately 2,700 per month. **Shelter** If you still live with your parents, you could save on the rental fee. However, if you want to stay alone, the monthly rental for rooms would be 2,500 to 4,000 or even higher. Utilities This includes electricity and water or if you have an internet connection, that would cost 1,650 per month. So if you are only using light and electric fan, you would more or less pay 800 per month. For water, the minimum would be 220. Additional Expenses Additional expenses may include items we use in the house such as toiletries and other items that we use inside the bathroom. It may cost Php1,000.00 per month. Clothing and transportation expenses should not be taken for granted. To sum these items, food for 3,200, Shelter for Php4,000. Utilities for Php2,700, transportation for 1,300 and additional expense of Php2,000. We can also set aside savings for at least 10% of our income. In total, the amount of Php13,200.00 will be enough to cover the food, rental and other expenses. It would be a different thing if you already have a family with at least 2 children. You will need to allocate additional amount for your children’s needs. What I mean, is that you can survive with a minimum wage earnings but it might not be enough if you have additional mouth to feed. Additionally, with a minimum wage, you can only survive but id does not enough to live a comfortable life. The cost of living in our country is generally low compared to other countries. If you are earning at least 50,000 ($1,000.00), you can already afford to have your own car and a comfortable place. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is not for promotional intent rather for informational purposes only and should not be considered as a financial advice. The Overtold Story It’s good to look back on things that happened during our childhood days. Perhaps, those who came from Generation X (1965-1980) can relate to my story. I was born in 1973 and I belong to the generation that experience both the time before the development of new technology and the modern era. I belong to the generation who watched shows from black and white TV, listen drama from a transistor radio (Simatar!) and read komiks (Aliwan, Tapusan, Rex, etc). We used to live in a rural area where scarcity of water is one of the main issues considering that we need to travel several miles in order to get a drinking water. Despite having a simple life, I can say that I had a happy childhood. We spent most of the time outside, running, chasing others, playing under the rain and other activities that I’m sure the new generation haven’t experienced anymore. After many years, I was able to finish my studies and finally entered the government service. I would from time to time attend meetings or seminars. There was an instance when participants were asked to share their childhood experiences. What they usually do or eat? What kind of life they had as a child? Honestly, the day was not enough for us to share our own stories. It was such an inspiring interaction. Since most of the people born in this generation are already successful in terms of career, it is fun to share our life when we were still a child and doing everything just to finish our studies. Some participants shared that they have kamote (sweet potato) and other root crops as their pack lunch. Others shared that they would bring fruits such as guava and sold those to their classmates so that they may have some amount to buy snacks. It was such a great encounter with people whom I considered successful but yet they had in interesting childhood. Everyone has their own version to tell. My Version of Story Since most of us has experienced some sort of economic difficulties during our childhood years, we learned how to be resourceful, hardworking and instill in our heart the value of time. My story has been shared a lot of times during dinner, so my children already regarded it as overtold. Here’s my overtold story: Since one of our problems is about water, drinking water to be specific, we need to fetch water in a certain spring water several miles away from our home. My mother would wake me up before the sun shines every day in order to fetch water from that spring water. The place is located in a remote place in the middle of a private property surrounded with tall trees. At my young age, I called it forest. I need to bring two gallons, one in each hand while my mother will bring two pails. I’m not sure where my mother got those gallons because they don’t have covering. So my mother would only use a plastic and a rubber band to cover the gallons and the pails. There were times when my mother could not come with me because she needs to rush some placemats to be brought to the contractor for payment. We need the money to buy rice. I would occasionally go with my friends in the afternoon after class to fetch drinking water. However, unknown to my mother, my friends were taking the shortcut. They would cross the river in order to finish the chores in a shorter span of time. The reason is for them to play more games afterwards. In short, I need to do the same. We will cross the river by jumping on the rocks while holding the gallons on each hand. However, one day, the water in the river went up because it had rained for several hours. But we need to fetch water again in the afternoon. I was already hesitant to go with them because I saw the water already covered some of the stones. But my friends were persistent so I was convinced. We were able to cross the river going to the place without any problem. Though for me, it was already a big challenge. We were able to get water and as we were crossing the river with gallons filled with water, it became more difficult for me. I was at the last one to cross. I step on the first stone, then on the second one. I managed to get near the river bank. Just one more step and I am on the other side. However, I didn’t make it on the other side. I slipped on the stone and I fell on the river along with the gallons of water. I’ve picked up the gallons while crying. I need to go back to the water falls to fetch a clean water because the water inside the gallon was already mixed up with the water from the river. My friends already left me so I decided to take the longer route instead of crossing the river. This experience has taught me three things. **First:** No matter how near we are in our goals, there are disasters that could happen that would prevent us from reaching our goals. This is the reason why it is extremely important to have back-up plans. Sometimes, no matter how perfect we thought our plan, there is still a chance of failing. Second: There is no shortcut in success. Success cannot be achieved overnight. We need to work for it, be patient and hardworking. This is the reason why even if I know it would be difficult for my mother to send me to school, I tried my best to support my studies because I believe during that time that education is my only way to scape poverty. Third: We can only rely on ourselves. No one among my friends, came back to help me when I was struggling and trying to get out of the water. The only thing I had on my mind was my mother would be upset when I came home and has no drinking water so I need to be strong and think of way to accomplish what was told me to do. This is probably the reason why I don’t rely too much on others. I would always try to do thing on my own. That was also the time when I told myself, when I grow up I will live in a house where I only need to push a button and the water will flow. That time, I didn’t know if water faucet exists. **How about you my friends, do you have a childhood experience that gives great lessons you carry with you until today?** **Disclaimer:** The content of this post are not for promotional intent rather for informational purposes only and should not be considered as a financial advice. I Failed the Test But Got the Job Along with the other applicants, I walk silently towards the room. I seated on the vacant chair with the table in front of me. The facilitator placed the test paper on top of the table facing downward. We waited for the instruction. When the facilitator told us to open the test paper, I started reading. After a few minutes, I raised my hand. “Yes, Miss?” asked the facilitator. “Mam, I’m sorry but I can’t take the exam anymore,” was my reply. “Why, what’s the problem?” she asked almost whispering. “I think I don’t have enough knowledge to answer the questions,” my answer in a low voice. “No. You have to finish the exam.” A lot of people think that applying for a job is all about skill. What you know and what you can do. Most of the time, we forget that one thing that we need in order to get the job. Attitude! **Hello, my read.cash friends! I hope you are all doing great!** Perhaps a few from here know that I am working in the government. Entering the government service is a dream to many. However, before we can start working in the government, we need to undergo series of tests, interviews, and other activities to test our competency. What I would like to share with you today is an experience which teaches a valuable lesson for everyone especially those who are looking for an employment be it in private or government offices. This is my experiences when I applied for a job in a private company before I was able to enter the government service in 2010. It was after the Typhoon Reming hit the country and thousands of people died in the province of Albay. If you haven’t heard of the place, it is the province where the famous Mayon Volcano is located. I have known that the cooperative is hiring and since I don’t have a job during that time, I decided to try my luck. Upon looking at the test paper, I know I couldn’t answer the questions which are related to accounting. That’s why I tried to just return the paper to the facilitator. But she refused and told me to answer and finish the exam. I obeyed. I already accepted that I cannot get the job. I went home and started to do the household chores. My children were still young during that time. In the evening, I received a message from the cooperative informing to be at the same venue for an interview. I was surprised because I know I didn’t passed the exam. Why would they still interview me? But of course, I obeyed. I saw the same people during the examination. So, I thought, everyone will be interviewed. The chairman conducted the interview and asked about my previous experience and other personal things. When I go home, I tried to forget about it and even decided to look for other companies where I could apply in the next days. Before the day ends, I receive another message form the same number. “Congratulations! You are qualified for the position. Please submit the following documents tomorrow.” I was both confused and happy. I can’t think of a reason or two for me to qualify for the job I’ve applied for knowing that I didn’t passed the exam. But still, it’s a blessing and I should be happy and follow the instructions. The following day, I was at the office to submit the requirements. That was my first day of work and I found out that the facilitator is the vice-chairperson. Months have passed and I already learned the tasks and I became close to the vice-chairperson. I caller her, *Mam Imee* the way most employees address her. She would guide me whenever I encounter difficulties with my job. I was also appointed as the secretary of the cooperative, a task that should only be given to a regular member. One time, I had a chance to talk to Mam Imee privately. We were alone in the office because there was an activity in another room. I asked her, “Mam, please tell me, why did you choose me over the other applicants? I know I didn’t passed the exam and besides, I know there is someone from the group that almost got perfect.” She just laugh, “Oh no, I didn’t choose you.” “What do you mean?” She sat down in front of me. “That is the consensus of the board. The board made a decision based on the results of the entire selection process.” “We believe that any work or task can be learned but the character is inherent in every person. Skill is a factor to consider but attitude gets a stronger point. When you decided to admit that you don’t know the answer, you have manifested courage and honesty. You exhibited courage by accepting that you don’t know the right answer. You have shown honesty which is the most important trait we are looking for. “ Everything that she said, went straight to my heart. I felt every word she uttered and I am proud of it. It has been 15 years since that encounter and I am already 12 years in the government service. Everything is still clear in my memory. I hope you learned something from this story. Thank you for sharing your time. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post are not for promotional intent rather for informational purposes only and should not be considered as a financial advice. Do We Really Need an Insurance? No matter how we planned things, mishaps can happen and if caught unprepared, we might lost everything that we have worked hard for. Insurance for that matter will not prevent misfortunes from happening. But it can somehow indemnify us against losses from specific contingencies. ***Insurance is a contract, represented by a policy, in which an individual or entity receives financial protection or reimbursement against losses from an insurance company.*** Source: Investopedia We cannot predict the future and there are things that are beyond our control such as sickness, accidents, fire and other disasters caused by nature. Though we may have no control of what will happen in the future, we can do something to reduce if not to totally remove the impacts of such fortuitous event. Having an insurance may not give us an outright advantage but this can help us in the event that catastrophe happens. It would be a great protection from unwanted events that may happen in the future. There are various types of insurance that we can consider depending on our needs and priorities. These can be life insurance, health, property, accident and many others. What Type of Insurance Should We Have? With the different types of insurance available nowadays, we may not always have the fund needed to avail all of these. We can choose based on what we really need the most. Here are some suggestions that you might want to consider: Health Insurance As we grow older, one of the things that could possibly happen is for us to get issues with regards to our health. As such, we need to have a frequent visit to our doctor and would probably give us some maintenance medicine. Worst thing to happen is for us to be hospitalized. Unlike accidents that can happen to anybody regardless of age, growing old and being sick is something that can happen to anybody. Getting old is inevitable. That is why, having a health insurance is one of the most important insurance policy that we should have. In the Philippines, we have a Philhealth which is mandatory to all earning individuals whether you work in the government or in private sectors. However, the coverage of Philhealth has some limitations. They only cover a small percentage of the bills. When my son was hospitalized, out of Php 110,000.00 hospital bill, Philhealth only covered Php 9,300.00. That was based on the list of the procedures and medical cases covered by the policy with the company. My suggestion is, if we can afford to get another health insurance while we are still active in our work, we should do it now. Pension Plan We can start working after we finish studying. Others opt to work even at a younger age. However, no one wants to be working continuously for a very long time. That's aside from the fact that there is a mandatory retirement age. As a government employee, we are automatically deducted from our monthly salary for our life and retirement through the GSIS. Even private employees are also required to pay a monthly contribution through SSS. Self-employed or other individuals are also encouraged to do the same. Since I was a private employee before I entered the government service, I also have my SSS. I have three more years to complete to be eligible for the pension when I reached the age of 60. I wasn't able to continue my contributions because I was short of fund back then. But before the year ends, I want to continue with my quarterly contribution. Car Insurance If you have your own car, it is important that you have it insured. Though, we are required to have a Compulsory Third Party Liability (CTPL) insurance upon registration and renewal of registration. However, the CTPL coverage is limited to the third party's damage (death or injury) but not your vehicle. That's why it is important that we get a comprehensive insurance for our vehicle. A colleague had an accident last month and her vehicle was damaged because of the strong impact on the post of an internet service provider in the region. When we asked her if her car has an insurance, she said it has none. She will have to shoulder all the expenses for the repair of the vehicle. Property Insurance We can secure our properties like our home through property insurance. It can be covered in case of major damage such as fire. Life Insurance Death is inevitable and expensive. We can ease the burden of our children and other relatives when we are prepared for this. On the final thought Apart from having an investment, we should see to it that we have an insurance depending on our needs. This will help us when unexpected things happen. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post are not for promotional intent rather for informational purposes only and should not be considered as a financial advice. Sandwich Generation: How to Stop the Cycle? We, Filipinos are known for having a strong and close family ties. This traditional Filipino value which has been handed down to us by our ancestors is what made us distinct from others.  We regarded our families as the most essential part of our lives and we put it in the high pedestal above all other things.   Looking at it, we can say that this family value should not be disregarded and must be handed down to our children and the generation to come. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F73b4a3HKPE *Video Courtesy of YouTube* Your Children Are Not Your Investment Though there is another practice among Filipino families that we need to reconsider. It is the belief of some parents that their children will lead them out of poverty and they will instill this at the mind of their children. This is one of the reasons why there are some individuals who would bear many children with a belief that they will take care of them when they grow old. This is also the reason why parents would no longer think of saving for their retirement. Maybe not all but there are still a high number who are even coming to the point of obliging their children to support their subsistence.   If this will be the case, the children won’t be able to save for their future considering that they were tied up on an obligation. So the history repeats itself. We will then become part of… The Sandwich Generation Sandwich generation is a situation where a middle aged individual was caught between the two generations such as the generation of the parents and the children. When it has become obligatory on your part to support your family and siblings while trying to build your own finances and supporting your children, you belong to the sandwich generation. Though there is no questioning the fact that without our parents, we won’t be where we are now. We don’t blame them for not being able to save enough amount for their old age. No, we don’t blame anybody here. What we want to imply is that while we have time, we need to do something for us to stop the same thing from happening. I am from Gen X and I belong to the Sandwich generation. What could be more stressful than having to take care of your parents while trying to build your career and managing your own family? I am an independent individual and at a young age I learned how to depend on myself alone in order to make a living. I finished my studies behind the expected age of graduation. This is because I can’t take a full load subjects since I need to support my studies. I worked with several private companies before I was able to enter the government service. Perhaps due to hard work and dedication to my job, I got promoted twice in 2021. Ever since I started working in the government, I am already supporting my parents and siblings. Oftentimes, I need to give up my own wants because I have to prioritize their needs. My children are still dependent on me and though they are already of legal age, they are still under my care. My salary would be more than enough for me but because I have to support my parents and siblings, I need to do extra work. This is the reason why I spent the time I supposed to devote to resting to my online writing activities. I don’t want to waste my time. Every single second is important. What Can We Do to Stop the Cycle If this will be the situation in most families, the children won’t be able to save for their retirement and will soon rely on their children when they get old. The cycle will never end. This is one thing that I don’t want to happen. So this early I am doing everything to prepare for my old age. With the new technology, it has never been easier for me to learn various ways of earning money apart from my salary. I make sure to allot my free time to find methods that will increase my current income. Here are various ways that can help us in one way or another to help us become the last sandwich generation, if we are. Insurance While it may not be of help at current time, insurance can cushion the impact of any misfortune that might happen such as accident and sickness. As government employee, we are required to have deduct mandatory contributions for retirement from our monthly salary. The good thing with having an employer is that you have the counterpart to your contributions. As of now the Government Service Insurance System is requiring the employees to have 6% of the salary and the employer, 9%. However, as I observed the current situation and the increasing inflation rate, I am not sure if the amount I would be receiving in the future would suffice to my needs. That is why it is imperative that we start establishing our retirement fund separate from the one mandated by the law. There are many types of insurance that we can avail of but we can prioritize our health and start with having a health insurance. There are also life insurance plans for your retirement needs such as pension plans. We will discuss this topic in detail in my upcoming articles. Live Frugally Many people have a habit of spending on things we don’t really need. We usually get deceived by some marketing strategies which lead us to buying things that aren’t important. Learn to identify our priorities, our needs over wants. Make Saving a Habit In my previous article, I have pointed out the *importance of savings* even if we have a low income and the reason why we need to force ourselves to save. Saving is the first step to establishing a business and investment. We know that we need funds in order to implement these two. https://read.cash/@cinderella/save-more-with-a-small-income-4be464e6 Establish a Business While Still Young Establishing a business is something that we should start while we are still actively employed. The common mistake with some is that they are starting to establish their business after retirement. It would be good if the business succeeded. But what if not and you invested your retirement fund?   Start Investing Just like having a business, we should start investing while we have a regular source of income. We should slowly build our investment portfolio. This way, we are setting aside smaller funds which would lead to attaining a huge investment portfolio over time without hurting our current financial situation. Train Your Children to be Independent It’s not bad to spoil our children from time to time. As parent, we want the best for our children. But we should instill in their mind the importance of being independent and not relying on others. Stop the Cycle We can’t do anymore of what already happened. But we can do something with our future. We need to stop the cycle of sandwich generation. Be the Last Sandwich Generation Our current situation may have been because our previous generation has a few knowledge of what will happen in the future. But on our part, we all have the resources to learn and to avoid the same mistake from happening again. How about you, do you belong to the sandwich generation? **Disclaimer:** The content of this post are not for promotional intent rather for informational purposes only and should not be considered as a financial advice. How I Received BCH From ForumCoin With more than a month of exploring the read.cash platform, I have known that many of our friends here are already earning **Bitcoin Cash** not only from the site itself but from different sources as well. I’ve read about earning through trading, faucets, and other writing sites. Of course, let us not forget noise.cash which is indeed a great platform. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin_Cash https://noise.cash/u/TheLeaderBoard Now, here's another community where I spend most of my free time. I joined the site on October 2017 and until now I am actively participating in the discussions. Though I must admit that there are times when I could not visit the site due to other concerns that I need to attend to. The site is **Forum Coin**. It has been around for some time and there are three things that attracted me and made me stay with it for almost 5 years. First thing that attracted me to the site is the simple layout. Second, the owner, Fergal who is very kind and accommodating. Third, the members who are equally helpful and supportive. https://forumcoin.com/index.php We see to it that we share things that we think could be beneficial to other members. We share ideas, opportunities and strategies. It’s a very friendly environment and should I say *toxic-free*. This is the reason why this is also my run-to site whenever I feel disoriented and stress. The site has five (5) forum areas where members discuss things. This is what makes the site more organized. Business, Money and Wealth Forum or BMW Forum The Business, Money and Wealth Forum or the BMW Forum is the busiest area in this site. This is where we present and discuss business-related and earning money opportunities. If a member discovered something that could help other members, we share it in this area. There were a lot of earning opportunities that I discovered through this area including noise.cash and read.cash. Members are sharing their experiences on a specific site and they help other members by giving strategies that worked for them. General Chat – Off Topic We also talk about our day-to-day activities and we post it in this section. We share personal experiences here, what happened within the day and a lot of things that are not related to earning money or business. Computers Gaming and Technology If you have topics about new technology that is worth sharing, there is a proper forum for that. Tech savvies post technology-related topics in this area. Webmasters questions Discussion and News Since many of the members here are bloggers and web developers, there are also as designated area for this topic. If you encounter issues on your blog or website, you post is here so other members with ideas can help you. Articles and Tutorials The site has a special rate for submitting articles and tutorials. You can submit long contents in this area and you will received a higher reward. **How Do We Earn From the Site** If you are aiming to earn big, I would say, Forum coin is not for you. But if you want to gain additional knowledge and more friends for that matter, I would suggest that you try ForumCoin. Perhaps not monetary but you will gain a lot of knowledge from this platform. The site paying 1.5 forum coin per post in the areas of Business, Money & Wealth and Webmasters Questions, Discussions and News and New member Introduction. Other sections pay as well but with smaller amounts. Payment Methods The site is giving the member a certain amount in forum coin every time we post a new topic or make a reply to the existing topics on the site. Once we reach 500 Forum coin, we can use the amount to buy the following items. $5 PayPal for 500 forumCoin – official Amazon Vouchers – official Domain Names – official Bitcoin Ether Website Hosting Sponsored Tweets & Social Media Promotion Forum signature – official Advertising and links to your Site Tarot Card Readings Websites Graphic design Content for your Website I used to withdraw via PayPal, however, due to some transactions I recently made, my account was compromised. My PayPal account was permanently limited. From what I read online, there is no more chance of recovering my account once it is permanently limited.  When I was about to withdraw from the site, I didn’t see the Bitcoin and Ether option. Good thing the site has an Ad Section where members can sell or exchange anything.  So, I posted my concern there. I said that I am selling my Forum Coin for Bitcoin Cash. Within the day another member made an intent to buy the Forum Coin and asked for the address. A few minutes later, the BCH payment was already in my Coins.ph account. *On the Final Thought...* Forum Coin is a great place to explore if you are looking for a supportive community and information about other online platforms. With a helpful and friendly community that would always extend help for others. This is the only platform where I stayed for a long period of time and would continue to be active as long as the site permits. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post are not for promotional intent rather for informational purposes only and should not be considered as a financial advice. Why We Should Force Ourselves to Save? There are many reasons why we need to save. Perhaps our current salary or income is just enough for our day to day needs. But you have a dream of driving that brand new car you saw at the showroom or aiming to reach your dream destinations. You probably want to start a business and you need fund for your startup. For these and other reasons, it is imperative that we start saving. Otherwise, all these dreams will remain a dream and we will find ourselves after 5 or 10 years still struggling to make ends meet because we failed to start saving. In my previous article, I have shared the possibility of saving more even if we have a small salary or income. We just need to be mindful of our actions at all times. Setting a goal is the very first thing that we need to do and keep an eye on it. https://read.cash/@cinderella/save-more-with-a-small-income-4be464e6 Don’t let distractions take you away from your goal. The Concept of Forced Saving As opposed to voluntary saving, forced saving is an obligation that you need to comply. It is comparable to a bill that we are mandated to pay. It is a commitment and an investment in one. Anyone can adopt this method of savings to secure their future. Various Ways to Implement Forced Saving Oftentimes, being consistent is a challenging task. We always have a reason or two for not being able to save. It seems that there are always a hindrance that comes along whenever we start the saving journey. Here are some of various saving strategies that are worth considering: Automate Your Savings Whether you are an employee receiving a regular monthly or bi-monthly salary or a freelance worker or a business individual, you can start automating your savings.  The first thing to do is to create a separate account. Every time the salary is credited to your account, the specified amount will be automatically transferred to your separate account. This way, you will no longer get hold of the money as it will be directly credited to your separate account. In the current times as digital banking sweeps the online world, we can now do online the things we usually do with our physical banks. When it comes to savings automation, it is very much possible with our online banking apps. E-wallets such as G-Cash are also great way to start an automated savings. Save With a Group There are things that are better done with a group. Such as saving. If you have a friend or group of friends, you can build a team with a goal of saving a certain amount in a specified time. Each group member will commit that they will save a certain amount every month or every pay day. It’s up to you create your own rules as long as it will be fun. If your friends are competitive, they will make a way to increase their savings. The success of your friends will help you achieve your own savings goal. Open a Retirement Savings Program With Your Bank The earlier you start to save for your retirement, the better. As the name suggests, this savings plan is intended for your retirement. The monthly contribution is based on how many years you are planning to retire. You can have your own retirement savings or you can open a retirement plan account with a trusted financial institution in your country. You may refer to this retirement calculator to know how you should save monthly in order to reach your goal or desired monthly benefit. Open an MP2 Account A Modified Pagibig Program or more commonly known as MP2 is a voluntary savings program offered by the Pagibig fund to its members. This program has a 5-year maturity which give higher dividend rate compared to banks and other financial institutions. Current members, retirees and pensioners who were former members of Pagibig can join the program. Though it is a voluntary savings program, we can consider it as a forced saving method. The program is voluntary in the sense that we can deposit any amount not less than 500 pesos. We are not require to deposit on a monthly basis. We can consider it a forced savings since our money is locked for 5 years. Meaning, we cannot withdraw the money until the maturity date. The good thing about it is the higher dividend rate which we can opt to withdraw every year we can wait until the 5 years. The dividend shall be added to our principal which will be the basis of the computation of the dividend for the next year. The MP2 is implementing the power of compounded interest. How I Started With MP2 I have been a member of Pagibig for 17 years. But it’s only last year that I decided to start my saving journey with MP2. I started by creating an online account so I can monitor my progress. I opted for personal payment rather than having it deducted from my salary. Whenever I have extra amount, I would automatically deposit it with Pagibig. As of now, I am continuously growing my savings through my online wallet such as GCash and PayMaya. I am hoping to reach at 1 million by the end of its term. https://read.cash/@cinderella/my-saving-goal-one-million-in-five-years-401519f5 *On the final thought...* I hope this post could encourage others to force themselves to save.  Even if we may have a small salary, it does not necessarily mean that could no longer save. It's a matter of disciplining ourselves and having a commitment that we may be able to achieve our goals. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post are based purely from my own experience and should not be considered a financial advice. Save More With a Small Income We usually think that having a high salary or a high income is the only way that we can save more. But, this is a common misconception.  There are individuals who may have high salaries but may go broke because of poor spending habits. On the other hand, building wealth can be possible even if we are receiving a small salary or have a low income. As I explore more articles and videos on how to increase one's net asset, I came across this statement by no other than the popular businessman and author, Robert Kiyosaki. We may have encountered this adage but does it have any impact on us? Practices to Avoid if You Want to Gain Wealth Who wouldn’t want to gain wealth? Some say that working as an employee will never make us rich. I don’t agree with this statement. Apparently, some people may never get ahead because of the following practices: Upgrading Vehicles and Lifestyle This is one of the common mistakes of people that we can observe within the community. When employees were promoted and got their salary increase, the first thing they would do is to buy a new car regardless if they still have a service vehicle that they can use. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with having a new car but it seems that they were not aware that when the salary increases, so does the taxes and other mandatory contributions. **Suggested Reading**: Would You Go for a Brand New or a Second Hand Car? https://read.cash/@cinderella/would-you-go-for-a-brand-new-or-a-second-hand-car-9b4a45ef Availing Loans Without a Specific Project Credit companies are everywhere and if we are not careful, we could be easily tempted to avail loans even if we don’t have a specific purpose or project. Availing loans just because we like it or our friends and colleagues availed the same is not a good practice and may lead to more serious problems in the future. We should avoid availing of loans without a good purpose.   Frequent Dining Out Unless we live alone or dining out would be cheaper, we should avoid this practice. If we have the time to cook our own meals, that is much better and we are assured that we are serving healthier food to our family. Uncontrollable Shopping Online One way to drain your money fast is through online shopping. With a lot of items to choose from, you won’t certainly not leave the app with an empty cart. And because you don’t have to pay it outright, you tend to buy more. Buying on impulse will surely bring negative effect especially if you are doing this as a coping mechanism to regulate our emotions. I also buy things from online shops but I see to it that I only buy things that I need and whenever I ordered an item, I would automatically give the corresponding amount to the guard so that the money would be ready just in case the item arrives. Things You Should Consider in Order to Build Wealth I always believe in the saying that great things comes from small beginnings. We may be earning a small amount but we can always make a way in order to save. Here are some of the proven strategies that can help you in one way or another in order to build wealth despite having a low income. Build an Emergency Fund You might encountered this statement many times and you might just get annoyed because this will always come as the top suggestion when it comes to building wealth. Many says that we should have an emergency fund that is equivalent to at least 10 month of salary. Set Aside at Least 10% of Your Income No matter how small your income is, you need to make your best in order to save at least 10 percent of it. This amount should be kept in a secured bank and better if we have it deducted directly from our salary. Create a Budget and Stick to It First, we need to know how much is left after keeping the 10%. From there, we can allocate the needed amount for bills, food, gasoline, and other things needed depending on your situation. If you have children who are studying, then you need to include tuition fee and allowance. We should monitor the monthly allocation. For example, electricity and water bills. Are they increasing? We need to know the reason why so we can take the needed action. I remember I was paying water bill almost 800 pesos per month for 3 months before I noticed the difference from the bill I was paying in our previous house. When I checked the lines, I found out that there was a leak in the connection. So, I immediately reported the issue to the Prime Water and they checked and repaired the lines. As of now, we are only paying from 300 to 360 per month. Live Below Your Means Living below our means does not necessarily mean that we compromise our health or buy low quality things. It only means that we need to assess our income. It also means,  that we need to cut unnecessary spending. You want to go on a vacation? Why not if you can afford it without taking any loan? Meaning, you need to plan it in advance and save the necessary amount to cover the expenses needed for a vacation. It’s simple. If we can’t afford something now, set it aside momentarily and save until such that that we have enough fund to acquire it or spend on it. Invest No matter how small, we need to start investing. We will be amazed on how far we have been over time. Additional Strategies These are my own strategies and allow me to share it with you. Trick yourself to Saving More What does it means? I think there is this urge to spend whenever we have money on hand. What I am doing? Yes, I am buying something just to satisfy myself. ****I buy cryptocurrency**** When I buy something and lost sight of the money, the desire to spend would be gone. So, instead of buying unnecessary items, I would rather buy Bitcoin Cash and other cryptocurrencies. **I save using an online banking app** Since I have my small business and I earn a little amount every day, I would put at least 2 Dollars on my online bank, CIMB via GCash. After a few weeks, I have good amount which I will transfer to my Pagibig MP2 account. Issues We May Encounter We can encounter various issues on our way to reaching our goals. We cannot totally avoid these issues since these are beyond our control. First, while we are trying our best to be frugal so that we may be able to save, here comes our relatives who are regularly visiting us to ask for money. Second, people will make friends with you and eventually will borrow money and you have no idea when they will return the money they borrowed. What will you if you have these people around you? Please let me know in the comment section. *On the final thought…* Just like a dripping water from the faucet, a small amount on a regular interval can fill the pail after some time. It may not be easy but it doesn’t mean it is not possible. Focus on the goal and consider everything else as distractions trying to take away our attention from our main objective. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post are based purely from my own experience and should not be considered a professional advice. Ways to Help in Promoting Bitcoin Cash Have you ever thought of purchasing meals from some of the popular fast food restaurants in your place using Bitcoin Cash? Or probably buying from an online store with the use of cryptocurrency? Unfortunately, this option is not yet available in most establishments in my locality. On the positive note, this may be possible in the near future. But we need to do something that could help in the mass adoption of Bitcoin Cash. I may have been busy these past months because of some work-related tasks which has always been the reason why there were times in the past when I could not continuously engage with my online activities. But whenever I have time, I would spent it mostly in writing. When I first learned about Bitcoin Cash more than a year ago, I already regarded it as one of the most promising cryptocurrencies along with Bitcoin and Etherium. I even imagined walking inside a store and would just pay BCH for the things I buy using my e-wallet. Just the same as using GCash or other e-wallet. It would be easier with the use of Quick Response (QR) Code. I started being active with noise.cash. However, after several months, I lost track of my online activities since I was transferred to another unit in our office which require most of my time. There was no weekend for me. I am at the office most of the time because I was trying to finish all the backlogs of the previous personnel assigned to the unit. It was only recently when I get control of my time again. My schedule is already back to normal and I decided to open my noise.cash account. Good thing it was still active. After a couple of weeks, I opened my read.cash account and when I found out that it is still active, I decided to continue writing for the site. It is a good experience being back with both of these sites. But the only setback is the continuous dropping of the prices of most cryptocurrencies including BCH. I was also a bit frustrated upon knowing that time has passed and still few establishments in my country are accepting BCH as payment for their products and services. Based on *BantayanIsland article*, there are only **11 merchants** accepting BCH in our country. This is certainly hard to accept. https://read.cash/@BantayanIsland/philippine-merchants-accepting-bitcoin-cash-bch-as-payment-9a3c9b1b I am aware that not everyone has a concrete idea of the benefits they can get by accepting BCH. But being a member of read.cash and noise.cash, we could probably help in spreading the benefits through our social media accounts or even within our circle of friends. This way, businesses would have a clear understanding of what they get when accepting BCH as a form of payment. Initial Actions I’ve Taken to Help in Promoting BCH I always believe that small steps can help in attaining big goals. If we want to change the world, we should start with ourselves. So, I started with the following actions in order to show my support with Bitcoin Cash and to spread the benefits for using the same. Changed my Facebook Cover with a Picture Containing BCH Logo The first step I did was to change my Facebook background to a BCH logo and with a note that I am accepting BCH as a form of payment for whatever services I am offering. Updated My Page’s Cover With a Design Containing BCH Logo I also updated the cover of my page, The LeaderBoard and started sharing my read.cash articles through that page. Sold my Coins in Exchange of BCH I have visited my Abra account and decided to convert my other cryptocurrencies to Bitcoin Cash. Though I have some issues with this site because of the CPRX, but I am just waiting for some luck over this. Other Things I am Planning to Do My initial plans were already in place though I know it will not be enough. I don’t have a huge following after I dropped my blogging activity which I started several years ago. But hopefully, these steps could in one way or another help encourage other people to do the same. Request to add BCH as payment option This can be done by giving suggestions through the company’s official Facebook pages or by giving feedback when visiting their stores. The owners of the establishments would usually take suggestions from the customers as they believe that this would help them grow further. Continuously Share the Benefits of using BCH I’m sure there are a lot of people who are benefited by BCH in one way or another. It is indeed an excellent move if we could continuously share it with our friends through social media or via other ways. Ultimately, we can help by writing good contents about the benefits it can offer. Encourage Friends to Make Request for BCH Payment Adoption It could have a bigger impact if more people are requesting for a certain thing. The more people would ask for it, the more it can encourage business owners to look into the matter. *On the final thought…* It’s not easy to change the old ways or the common practices that has been there for years. Changing other people’s mindset could be a daunting task. But it could even more difficult if we won’t start changing our own ways. How about you guys, what steps would you take to help promote Bitcoin Cash? Effective Ways to Manage Stress *Not all days are great…* When you wake up in the morning, you are grateful for a brand new day. You had your morning coffee or tea, ate your breakfast, take a bath and prepared for work. You had to deal with heavy traffic before reaching your place of work but it's okay, that's part of life of a working individual. You are too enthusiastic to start the day, but when the boss came in, it looks like he is not in good mood today. He was talking with someone on the phone in a loud voice. He proceeded to his office and the tension was in the air. In a little while, the head of your section suddenly appeared and was asking for the reports that is due for today. This is a common scenario in an office and it can be a cause of stress. What is Stress? Stress refers to how our body reacts from external stressors. When we talk about external stressors, these are the things that we have no direct control. This can be work-related, issues about money, relationships or other things such as frustrating events that affect our lives. Common Facts About Stress Stress is our body’s reaction towards external factors. We can be affected on how other people treat us or how other people act. We can be affected by sudden movements, bad or good news and almost anything that is happening around us. Imagine how we react over a loud explosion? Stress is not a disease or an illness but it can be a cause of a bigger health issue such as high-blood pressure, diabetes, and other health problems which may include mental problems. Here are some facts about stress that we need to know so that we can do something to prevent further health complications. 1.       Stress is a hormonal response from our body When our body sense a perceived danger, stress level rise and hormones like cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrine are released to increase alertness, tense muscles, and heighten blood pressure. This is a normal response of our body. But since stress is not a physical attacker, the usual result would be headaches, muscle tension, inability to sleep, upset stomach and other health issues. 2.       Stress can affect anybody No one is exempted from being stressed. Anyone can experience it though different individuals may experiences different effects. There are also studies that women are more prone to stress than men. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that men are free from experiencing stress. 3.       Stress can make us alert The short effect of stress is that it can make us alert and productive. It can help us maintain focus. 4.       Exposure for a long time in a stressful environment can develop chronic stress We can’t prevent stressors from happening, and when it happens, it is usually short lived. However, being exposed to external stressors over a long period of time can develop other diseases such as high blood pressure, heart ailments and anxiety. 5.       Stress can impact mental performance Are there times that you find it difficult to concentrate when you are experiencing stress? This is because when we are stressed, our brain chemistry is affected. We lost the normal sleep pattern and we feel anxious, irritable and depressed. 6.       Stress can cause headache Headache is one of the most common effects of stress. Personally, I would experience migraine during stressful time. 7.       Stress can be successfully managed As I mentioned earlier, stress is a result of our reaction to an external force called stressors which we have no control. It can happen anytime, anywhere and to anybody. But the good thing is, we can manage how to respond to these external stressors so that the effects wouldn’t be that too heavy to bear. Our life is short and if we can’t find a way to minimize the impact of stress, it would become even shorter. According to studies, the average lifespan of humans is 78 years old. But stress can make our life even shorter. That is why we need to do something to preserve our life and enjoy for a longer period of time. What Can We Do? How we respond on external forces is something we need to work over time. Being calm may not be easy but, it is possible. What Do We Need to Do In Order to Manage Stress? 1.         Avoid Stressors We may already heard the phrase, prevention is better than cure. Meaning, if we have a chance to avoid these stressors, it should be our first move. Example, if your stressor is a person, then we should try to avoid or minimize interaction with the person. One way of doing this is by setting aside any means of communication after work such as turning off our mobile phones or having a different number for work and for personal use. But if in any case, avoiding the stressor is not possible, we should take other ways in order to minimize the effect on us. 2.         Take A Break From Time to Time Most stressors came from our workplace. As an employee, we are given a number of vacation and sick leave in a year. Make use of this privilege. Spend time to relax or do the things that you love doing during these breaks. We can also travel to other places or engage yourself in a relaxing hobby such as gardening, dancing oy meditation. While it is true that we need to work in order to increase our income, it is also necessary that we take care of our health. Suggested Reading: *How I Managed a Stress Management Seminar* https://read.cash/@cinderella/how-i-managed-a-stress-management-seminar-7981c632 3.         Control Your Emotion We may not have control over the things that may happen, but we can definitely control how to react over these things. Controlling our emotions doesn’t mean suppressing our feelings. For example, it doesn’t mean we need not be angry but how we control our reaction when we feel angry. Take a deep breath and remain calm before taking any action. 4.         Divert your Attention When we face a difficult situation that make as anxious, consider reframing your thoughts so that we may come up with a more realistic view of the situation. Focus your thoughts on happy moments that we may generate uplifting thoughts rather than a negative one. 5.         Practice Regulating Your Emotional Managing Skill It may be a tough task to manage our emotions. But just like any skill, the more practice we have the better we get over time. If we encounter the same situation that we previously had, think of the outcome that we achieved when we successfully managed our actions during the first time and continue improving the skill by developing more positive reactions on difficult situations. This way, it will help us develop the ability to handle discomfort and make positive thoughts and actions that shifts your mood. I hope these simple tips provided us with a little help in managing stress. How I Managed a Stress Management Seminar Our office received an invitation from another government agency requesting for a speaker in an upcoming activity. Based on the invitation it is a GAD Related activity. So my boss, told me to attend. Being an ISO certified office, I need to answer the invitation within 3 days from receipt of which. On the fourth day, I received a call from the agency that what they want is an activity about managing stress in the workplace since this is the purpose of their activity. I was perplexed since, I haven’t done a stress management seminar. Meaning, I don’t have materials for this kind of event and I need to start from scratch. But I couldn’t say no considering that I already made a reply. I decided to conduct research on how a stress management seminar is being done. Since I need to create presentation and prepare the things I need for this activity. I began searching and picking out the ideas that appeal to me. I started creating my own presentation. Since I am also handling various tasks in the office, I couldn’t find enough time to do the needed materials during office hours. I needed to bring the work at home. Which means, I need to set aside some of my online activities so that I may be able to deliver a good output. That’s the reason why I was not able to submit a new article for the past few days. I spent several days before I could complete my presentation, likewise downloaded, edited and printed the materials I needed for the activity. I also needed to practice dancing since I need to guide my participants during the last part of the planned activity. When I thought that my presentation is already good, I prepared the needed equipment during the seminar. I filled out a borrower’s slip for the projector, microphone and speaker. This is me, I don’t usually go to an activity without preparing for these basic things unless the person inviting informed us that they have a complete set of equipment and I will just discuss. I also informed the driver about the activity so he could also prepare a trip ticket. This is an official trip so I need a driver. Much as I want to use my own car, I deemed it necessary that I utilize the resources of the office. One reason, I could give some amount to the driver when I received an honoraria instead of allotting the money to buy gasoline. Second reason, it is safer to have a driver with me considering that I am not familiar with the place. The Most Awaited Day The day of the activity arrived, and that is today. It so happened that the assessment of another program coincide with my schedule. So, I and the team which composed of three officers went to the place together. They have a different venue. The participants for the seminar will be coming from another province, so I reached the place a little early. The driver and I went to another venue which we are planning to conduct our summer function to happen on the 30th and 31st. We paid the required deposit and checked the place. Finally, they called me and told me that they are already at the venue, so I decided to proceed there immediately. We had our lunch and started the activity. Issues Encountered The place has no function hall. So the team set up the place to conduct the activity at the place outside the rooms. It was a wide area and the chairs were placed on the sand. Even if I have a projector, they don’t have a projector screen. So I decided not to use the projector. I just opened my presentation to be used as a guide for my discussion. I discussed about managing stress in the workplace. This is the topic they requested. It was a comprehensive discussion about the topic. I gave various examples and I also asked them about their experiences about stress. The participants are very attentive and participative so we had a lovely discussion about the topic. After giving some information, we proceeded to the workshop portion. It was about the level of stress which can be low, moderate or high. Afterwards, I gave them some suggestions on what to do in case they experience things that could make them feel stress. The Exciting Part After giving various suggestions, I asked them to stand up so we can start with the physical activity that would relieve their stress. I asked them to place their right hand between their chest and the left hand extended to the side with palm facing outward. I see to it that the given instructions. I even took a picture which I told them I needed for my documentation. After making sure that everyone is in the right position, I played the music. It was a popular Tiktok dance song, **Amelia.** The crowd was overjoyed as we dance through the music. I know I made them happy. After a few more dances, I ended my discussion. They gave me a certificate of appreciation and we took some pictures. I also requested the participants to fill out the Client Satisfaction Rating form. I feel so happy with the result of my first stress management training. While going home, the officer from another local government unit told me that she will be sending an invitation for a GAD training in the LGU. Oh, well, I’m ready for that. Thank you guys for reading. I hope you have a stress-free day! **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is based on my personal opinion and does not in any way represent the organization I am currently connected with.

How I Earn Using My Smart Phone A mobile phone is a small device approximately 3 x 5 inches but can do a lot of wonders. From a tool for communication to acquiring new ideas by means of watching videos in YouTube or in any other platforms or by reading articles or blogs about a certain topic. We can use it as a camera, a watch, an alarm clock, a calendar. In today’s time, almost anyone has an access to a mobile device. I seems that many people can never go out without a phone. It’s already part of our daily lives. Having mobile phone can be bring enormous benefits to the user, provided that we use it properly. When Was Mobile Phone Invented? Martin Cooper, the engineer from Motorola developed the first hand-held phone that could connect over Bell’s Advance Mobile Phone System (AMPS). Motorola launched the DynaTAC in 1984. *Source* Personally, I saw the first mobile phone in 1995 from a classmate in college and I got my first phone in 1999. It was a basic phone just intended for text messaging and calling. Fast forward to the current days, smart phones replaced the analog phones. We can use our phones to take high quality photos and videos, we can download apps that can be of great use. That’s when I started the idea of earning with the use of my smart phone. I am aware that some of us are using our phones to access noise.cash and read.cash. Though with these two sites, I am using my laptop. It is easier for me to type words and phrases with the use of laptop.   But what I will be sharing with you are some of the ways that I am earning with the use of my phone. Mobile Load and Data Selling There are two ways to have a call or data credits in the Philippines. One is through post-paid line which we need to open an account with a service provider. The second one is with the use of pre-paid credits.  Despite many of my colleagues have an access to internet, they would still buy mobile load and data from me. I have three apps for prepaid loading. Coins.ph, GCash and PayMaya. Anong the three, it was Coins.ph that I would usually use to sell prepaid loads. When the time that Coinsph was still giving rebates, I would earn a decent amount from selling prepaid loads. However, the company stopped giving rebates and switched to giving reward points instead. I still use this app but I need to add on top of the price as a fee. Fund Transfer Services With the use of my online banking app with one of the popular banks in our area, I can transfer fund from and to any other bank or to other apps including the three apps I mentioned above on real time. Most transactions are GCash transfer. I am charging Twenty Pesos ($.20) for every One Thousand Pesos ($20.00). When online shopping became popular, some of my colleagues opened their own GCash account and they were transferring fund from Land Bank to their app. However, after some time, they encountered issues when transferring fund.  So, they decided to avail of my services again. This is very convenient for them since they can even message me to do the transaction even without paying outright. They just need to pay when we meet at the office. However, after some customers haven’t paid on time, I decided to refuse transferring unless they give the cash first. I told them I am just rolling the capital. Bills Payment Every month people pay their bills such as electricity, water, internet, postpaid bills, Home Credit, Credit Cards, etc. Taking a long queue with the bank or with the company would entail time not to mention that they will also consume gas or will pay the fare when going to the place to pay their bills. With the little fee I am charging, they would prefer to avail of my bills payment services.    Earning Apps Following the popularity of the cryptocurrency, many earning apps started to flourish. There are game apps, faucets, and survey apps that became available. These apps may not make us rich but can help us earn some amount on the side. I have a few of these apps though I know there are many apps that which can help us in adding money to our bank. The oldest app that I have is Freebitco.in. It is a faucet which gives a few satoshis every hour. I have been using this since 2015 and until this time, the site is continuously gaining popularity with 49 million users. Another old app that I am using is Cointiply. The site offers surveys and other ways to earn such as watching videos and even participating in the chat. I used to play some games offered by Bling. There were three games I used to play which made me earn some amount. I can request payment to be sent to my Coinbase account. I know these games are still ongoing but I could no longer allot time due to my busy schedule. Crypto Trading I’m doing a simple activity of buying through an exchange and would wait for the price to go up so I could sell at a profit. Investments Because of the new technology, it’s easier to invest nowadays. We can start investing for as low as Fifty Pesos ($1.00).  I started investing in Ginvest via GCash since last year. Depending on our risk appetite, we can choose from the variety of investment programs being offered by the company. The two sites I mentioned above are also offering high interest rate for the balance we keep in our account. With this, I am also earning interest in addition to the earnings I can get from the activities with the sites. I am also using my phone to monitor my investment in Pagibig. Though Pagibig has been round even before internet. On the final thought: Imagine how technology transformed from a wired telephone to smart phone. The world keeps on changing. Let us make these changes a vehicle for our success. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is based on my personal opinion and does not in any way represent the organization I am currently connected with. How I Spent My Time Productively Even After Office Hours I have been working in the government for more than 10 years and perhaps a few years more, I will be retiring already. Being in public service offers a lot of privileges and the compensation package is somehow competitive. The greatest advantage of being in government is the security of tenure. Meaning, once you entered the services, you can be assured that you will have a job until you reach the retirement age. **My Daily Routine** I am a morning person. I would wake up as early as 4:30 in the morning. I love to watch the sun as it slowly peep in the horizon. I love growing flowers and I spend my morning in the garden while having my morning coffee. The view of the nature mesmerized me every time. I don’t usually take heavy breakfast because I can have my snacks while at the office. A bread or cookies would be fine. Most of the time, I am ready for work before the clock hits 7 o’clock in the morning. Our office is only a 15-minute drive from our house. We are renting the house we are currently staying at because our home place is located in another city which would take us more than an hour of travel. Having a house nearby would mean less gas expense and we can save on time as well. I am particular with time and as much as possible I don’t want to be late when going to work or in any gathering or appointment. **Nature of My Work** I am assigned in the finance unit with work mostly related to money. Our office is not a collecting agency so we don’t collect payment from clients. The main source of our funds is from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).  Apart from performing admin task, I am also handling various programs so from time to time, I need to visit other local government units especially if there are invitations to discuss topics under the program I am handling. One of the tasks given to us by the president is to provide technical assistance to the local government units. Combining technical and admin tasks is somehow complicated. But I don’t regret being given the tasks because I am learning new things every time. The challenges would always form part of every duty. When you love your job, you are willing take the risks associated with it. **My Life After Work Hours** I am an introvert type. I don’t really hang out with groups. I prefer to be alone most of the time or just with a few friends. But I am a busy buddy and here are what I spend my time with when I am not at work. **Visiting Places** I love driving and whenever I have a free time, I would drive around the city or other places in our province. Driving is one of my stress relievers. With music playing and good view, it makes my day complete. The last place I visited was a resort on top of the mountain. It was not as exciting as I expected it to be, but rather a nerve-racking experience. My colleague and I agreed to go on a swimming after we rendered an overtime in our office. Another officemate suggested that we go to this resort because it is just a few minute-drive from the city. As we came closer to the place, the road gets narrower. We asked the people that we met along the road if we can bring the vehicle to the resort and they answered us that there is a plenty of space on the resort. The last part made me really nervous…the road is too narrow and only one vehicle could fit. There are two concrete path on each side of the road that is just enough for the left and right wheels of the vehicle. Both sides of the road are steep and even we wanted to turn back, we just couldn’t do it. One wrong move and we will tumble down the mountain. I decided to continue until we reached our destination on the top of the mountain. Though the place is good, I just couldn’t enjoy the moment because it made me too nervous. We decided to go home and had a milk tea. But that kind of experience rarely happens. So I won’t consider it as a hindrance for my future travels. I am still planning to visit as many places as I could. There are a lot of beautiful tourist spots around my place that I have yet to reach. Since the weather is good, I could probably allot my weekend during this month for road trips. **Gardening** Despite my busy work schedule, I can still devote some of my time working on my garden. I planted flowering plants in my garden such as yellow bells, bush clock vine, blue ternate, white sky vine, and other plants such as strawberry and lettuce. Gardening is a stress reliever and I love the feeling of being close to nature. Something I want to do more often when I retire. **Writing** Even if I speak on various occasion I am a typical silent type person. I don’t easily give my opinions on any issue or topic without making a research or knowing the whole truth. But I love writing. This is one of the things that releases me from work-related stress. I used to write on my own blog and other websites. I once wrote for Hub Pages, Bitlanders, Experts Column, and many other sites. I also write for other blogs as guest blogger. **Working Online** I started working online since 2011. Though I never considered it as my full time job but I do enjoy the experience and the things I learned and those I have yet to learn. I used to work as an auditor and later on as a mediator in Humanatic. I also worked in Spare5 and other sites offering micro tasks. I am still writing in various forums such as Forum Coin and myLot. Being an online worker provides a higher level of happiness. So as long as I can do it, I will always set aside a time for my online work. **Cryptocurrency** I discovered cryptocurrency in 2013. It was a great experience. It’s easy to collect and save satoshis.  It was only last year when I discovered Bitcoin Cash through noise.cash and read.cash. Though I can’t allot more time with read.cash during that time, I was active with noise.cash. It was just recently that I decided to become more active with read.cash and I find the site pretty enjoying and worth the time and effort. ***On the final thought…*** Though we may be busy with our day job, having something to spend our time with after office hours can help us in one way or another. It can help us divert our thoughts away from the stressful work and we can also get an extra income for some tasks. For me spending time with other sites is better than reading and viewing toxic posts in Facebook. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is based on my personal opinion and does not in any way represent the organization I am currently connected with. Why We Should Never Stop Learning **"The best investment you can make, is an investment in yourself"** Warren Buffet As soon as we came out of this world, we slowly learn how to make use of our senses. Our parents were even excited when we first crawl, walk, speak, etc. We learn to imitate things that we saw. Our parents were our first teachers and through them, we learned by example. As soon as we reached a certain age, we started going to school and learn how to read and write. As we grow older, the level of our learning also accelerates. We slowly developed various skills. We learned how to draw, how to compute and other worthwhile skills. As the passing of time, we discovered ways in order to apply these skills that we learned. In the higher level of learning, we started to analyze and evaluate these knowledge that we acquired through the time. We learned how to make use of those for our benefit. After graduating from college, some of us already find a job while others started another course. As we continue with our life’s journey, there is always a point that encourages us to learn further. Even if we are already working, we still need to continue accumulating knowledge. For some, they thought that the learning process already stops after they started a job. Most especially if they are working in company with repetitive tasks. Why Do We need to Continue Learning? There are always new things that we can learn that will help us achieve success. Here are the reason why we should continue learning new skills. It Helps Us Stay Updated When we learn new skills, we are not afraid to blend with the new generation. For example, those who were born before the computer era would find it difficult to adopt to the new way of doing things had they failed to learn how to make use of the new technology. There were employees who were forced to retire from their job because they could no longer adapt to the use of the new technology. The reason why is that they refuse to learn new things. There will always be changes in our working environment. If we can’t cope with these changes, we will surely left behind. The only way to adapt and achieve access is to continue learning. Increases Our Confidence Level How would you feel if you learn new skill? Don’t you become more confident? For example, you don’t know how to drive. You will not dare driving a vehicle even if you own one because you lack the skill. But what if you took a driving lesson and you learn how to drive. You no longer afraid because you already have the skill and you know what to do. Every time we learn new skill, we became more confident of our selves. Improves Our Personality Have you ever wonder why those who underwent graduate school seems to be more assertive, conversant, and carry a high level of personality? Simple, they can always relate on any topic because they have high level of education. Improves Our Brain Health When we constantly exercise our brain, it will lower the possibility of having an Alzheimer’s disease and will help us achieve a longer life. Researchers found that people who participated in mentally challenging activities most often, both early and late in life, had a slower rate of decline in memory compared to those who did not engage in such activities Source: alzinfo.org https://www.alzinfo.org/articles/reading-alzheimers-bay/ What Should We Learn? With the constantly changing world of technology, we might find it confusing and overwhelming trying to think of what we should learn. Here are some of the things we might find interesting to learn. Please let me know in the comments which one would you like to learn in the coming days. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power point) Bookkeeping Website Development How to Create a Website Public Speaking Planning Photography Basic Investing How Taxes Work How to Cook Basic Design How to Drive a Manual Car How to Drive an Automatic Car On the final thought... Every day is a chance to learn new things. We can make our own list of what things or skills we would like to learn. The more skills we have, the greater our chances of achieving success in life. I hope I was able to give you some useful tips that may be of help in one way or another. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is based on my personal opinion and does not in any way represent the organization I am currently connected with. My Saving Goal: One Million in Five Years I started to get serious with my saving plan during the first quarter of 2021. Though I have been a saver ever since but I had to prioritize my children’s needs over anything. I am also helping my Mom who is a senior and my sister who lost a job during the pandemic. I have been doing side hustles for additional income for quite some time. But the earnings that I get is only enough to finance our day-to-day needs. 2021 has been a great year for me even if the whole world is struggling because of Covid-19. This was the year when I got promoted twice in a year. Subsequently, my salary has increased and I was able to provide some of the things that we were just dreaming of having before. However, that was also the year when my son was hospitalized because of lung problem that he acquired due to the nature of his work and maybe because he was not too careful with his health. The high hospital bill almost drained my savings. I just realized that having a Philhealth is not enough. We still need to get other medical insurance as a form of preparation when things like this happen. Because of what happened, I became more decided on having a savings. I told myself that if I won’t force myself to save, I won’t be able achieve my goals. That’s when I recalled the financial advice that we should set aside a specific amount before we spend and not the other way around. In April of 2021, I opened my MP2 or the Modified Pagibig. It’s a savings program offered by Pag-ibig, a government corporation in the Philippines that offers housing loan program and other short term loans to its members. What exactly is MP2? Since I am a member of Pagibig and have been a paying regular contribution since 2001, I am allowed to open a Modified Pagibig savings. This is a program that offers a higher dividend as compared to the interest being offered by the local banks in our area. The program has been around for years but since I have no enough capacity before, I decided to set it aside. Instead, I go with the usual way of saving and some digital savings programs which I can withdraw my money once needed. The difference between MP2 and the regular savings account is that the money is locked for 5 years. There is an option to have the contribution be deducted to our salary but I didn’t go for that option. I am depositing money whenever I have extra amount. My Saving Strategies We may have different ways in order to reach our saving goals. Allow me to share with you my own strategies in order to expedite my saving: I Created a Budget This is the first thing that I did. I made a list of our monthly expenses such as rental, electricity, water, internet bills and make sure that we pay these things before anything else. Not having to pay for the penalty is also a good move to save. Before going to the market or grocery, we see to it that we check the items we still have and not have so as not to avoid buying items we do not need. Set an Emergency Fund Though we have our mandatory hospitalization program in our country, it is imperative that we set aside a certain portion of our salary into a savings account intended solely for emergency. Ideally, it should be equal to our five month salary. I Tried Saving Little Amount Every day No matter how small our earnings may be, a small amount every day will eventually become a big amount in a year’s time. Since I am earning some amount from my small business, I am regularly saving at least 2 Dollars every day to my CIMB GSave account. Once I accumulated enough amount, say $20, I would deposit it to my MP2 account. I also deposit some amount whenever I receive any extra fund such as bonuses or honorarium from speaking on various occasions. Practice Simple Living I used to buy things whenever I saw something that attracts me. Be it a new bag, dress, shoes or accessories. I also eat out often with friends. But after I created a budget and listed my income and expenses, I decided to control my spending and avoid buying things out of impulse. Yes, I still buy things that I want but I need to take the money from my extra earnings. I also minimize eating out. I Have Multiple Side Hustles I am a great believer of the adage that we should have a multiple sources of income. We should not rely on one source if we really want to accomplish something. My online activities had helped me in terms of finances. Even before that my children were still studying, I could already rely on my online earnings for our daily expenses. Up to this time, I am still doing online activities apart my other offline side hustles and I keep on researching on how to increase my income. **How Much Do I Want to Save?** I am aiming to save One Million Pesos before the end of the term of my MP2. However, with my current salary, computing the 10% for 5 years will not reach this amount. I am not sure yet if the dividend will be added as it will form part of the principal amount once compounded. But anyway, I will try my best to minimize my expenses by eliminating some practices that cause me to over spend. I will also continue my writing activities and other side gigs in order to gather more amount. **Suggested Reading:** *The Power of Compounding* https://read.cash/@cinderella/the-power-of-compounding-what-we-need-to-know-7766e6ad However, if I won’t be able to reach my target amount at the end of the five-year term, Pagibig Fund allows the whole amount to be carried over to a new account. Perhaps, by then, I could already save that amount. *On the final thought...* I am saving this amount as an additional fund for my retirement. I also want to enjoy my life during that time. Although I am also expecting retirement benefits from my current employment, it is still better if we have additional fund just the case maybe.  If for any reason, I may be promoted again next year for the higher rank, then I could have another salary adjustment which can be an additional fund. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is based on my personal opinion and does not in any way represent the organization I am currently connected with. The Power of Compounding: What We Need to Know According to the greatest and the most influential physicist of all time, Albert Einstein, **The power of compounding is the 8th wonder of the world****.** https://www.clearwealthasset.com/einsteins-8th-wonder-of-the-world/ Each one of us have our own dreams and goals that we want to achieve in some years to come. At the least, we dream of having to retire early and enjoy the fruit of our labor. To travel and see the beauty of other places. For many, not having to worry about our finances is something that we look forward to.   We thought of saving as the first step in achieving this goal. However, upon receiving our salary, we started spending until everything was gone. We promised to start saving on the next payday. Until the next payday comes and we did the same thing. The months becomes years and we still don’t have any saving. How Can We Start Saving? It doesn’t matter how big or small your salary is. You have to save at least 10% of your income. This may be difficult to do but until such time that we started to take action , we won’t be able to experience the benefits of having a savings account. The best thing to do is to get started. Where is the Safe Place to Save? Unless you have something that you need to spend cash with, it is not advisable to stock a lot of cash in your pocket. This can cause overspending or worst, you might end up losing your hard-earned money. It is best to have a savings account. With a savings account, we can withdraw our money any time. However, savings account may only give a measly interest rate. In the Philippines, the current interest rates for savings account would range from .10% to .25% for traditional banks. Good thing there are digital banks which offer higher interest rates. Here are some of those... ****Tonik Bank Stash**** **Tonik Bank Stash** is the first digital only bank in South East Asia which was recently launched in the Philippines on March 18, 2021. Stash was described by the bank as savings pockets for different goals and/or objectives. You can earn up to 4% for solo stash and up to 4.5% for group stash. There is no required initial deposit, no minimum balance requirement and no interest earning balance. You can conveniently open an account by downloading the app via Play Store. **DiskarTech** **DiskarTech** is another digital bank powered by RCBC. There is no minimum deposit required in order to earn interest which can be up to 3.25% per year. However, there is a maximum amount and individual can save which is Php48,000 ($960). **CIMB GSave** If you have a GCash account, you can easily access the GSave from the dashboard and from there you can create an account outright. There is no required deposit and you can earn up to 2.6% per year on your balance computed and paid to you monthly. These are only some of the digital banks that offers higher interest rates. Among these mentioned digital banks, I only have GSave Account which I can access through my GCash account. I make sure to save at least Php100.00 ($2) per day. I get this amount from the earnings I get from selling mobile load and data and other activities that give me additional income. With these mentioned banks, we can save conveniently and earn a decent amount of interest. These banks are regulated by the Central Bank of the Philippines just like the traditional banks. Now, if you are still looking for an option to earn higher dividend, you might as well try the program being offered by the Pagibig which is more popularly called as MP2 or the Modified Pagibig Savings. This is a special savings program for Pagibig members which offers dividend with a 5-years maturity. Meaning, the amount you deposited cannot be withdrawn until the end of the term. But the good thing is you can deposit as little as Php500 per month. The dividend is based on the income of the corporation and is being paid to the members during the first quarter of the following year. The member has the option to receive the dividend annually or after the maturity. Understanding the Power of Compounding On a mathematical point of view, the power of compounding is the increase in the value of investment brought by the interest in capital and the accumulated interest on interest otherwise referred to as compound interest. In simple term, it is how your money works for you. Let’s say for example you regularly save Php1000 ($20) per month. By the end of the year, you will save Php 12,000 ($240) without any interest. However, if you deposited the money in an interest earning savings program, the money could grow exponentially by the end of the year. Depending on the rate of interest, your money can double after several years. On the above-mentioned examples of savings programs, I am active with CIMB GSave and MP2. The difference between the two is that with CIMB GSave, I can withdraw my money anytime while MP2 is locked for 5 years. CIMB GSave can be a form of emergency fund and MP2 is a long term investment. ***On the final thought…*** Saving on a regular basis with the right company is a great step towards building wealth. It can be a long term investment which can increase our net worth over time. Combined with other investment programs, saving is an excellent way to accumulate fortune. **Disclaimer:** The content of this post is based on my personal opinion and does not in any way represent the organization I am currently connected. Moreover, I am not a financial expert and the information I am sharing with you is the product of my own research and ideas. Hence, these may or may not be applicable to you. Likewise, I encourage you to conduct your own research for whatever program you wish to join especially those requiring start-up capital. Thank you for dropping by and enjoy your day!

Ways to Make Extra Money Even if You Have a Full Time Job There might be several reasons why some individuals may still pursue in finding a side hustle even if they already have a full-time job. The most common reason could be that their salary is not enough for their daily needs. How much do we really need in order to live decently? If you are the breadwinner of a family with two children, you have to think of 4 mouths to feed and to be provided with shelter, clothing and other necessities. The needs of each child would vary depending on the age. Babies have different needs with that of the school children. According to *Statista*, the average monthly salary in the Philippines is PHP 45,000.00 ($900). While there are a few who are earning high salary and several with average income, still, many people are receiving low salary. Some are even below the minimum wage. There are quite a high number of workers in the country who are earning a minimum wage which is PHP537.00 ($10.74). This is relatively lower than the $7.5 per hour of the US.   https://www.statista.com/statistics/1048636/philippines-monthly-average-salary/ https://tradingeconomics.com/philippines/minimum-wages With the high cost of prime commodities and other services, earning minimum wage might not be enough for our family. That is why most of us are trying to find other sources of income in order to live comfortably. For some, having a side income can help them save for the future. So whatever reason we may have for looking for another source of income, this article could help you in one way or another. The first thing that we could do is to observe our surroundings. What are the current issues our co-workers or colleagues are facing? Since we usually stay with them 8 hours in a day, most likely, they can be our potential clients when we decide to start a side hustle. Here are the possible profitable ideas that you could try: 1.       Carpooling *Image courtesy of Pixabay* As per definition, carpooling is an activity of a group of people traveling together to school or work. If you have you own car, you can make an arrangement with colleagues who are staying within your area so you can come to work and go home together. This way, you can save an amount on gas expenses and at the same time, you can have an extra income that you can save for the repair and maintenance of your vehicle. 2.       Sell Food Items Selling food items such as snacks or other candies can help us get extra bucks. Even if we don’t have the cooking skill, we can still sell food items. One way is to purchase on wholesale and sell those items on retail. We can also repackage with smaller packaging to make items more affordable. 3.       Accept Bills Payment/Fund Transfer and Selling Mobile Load and Data *Image edited via Canva* My colleagues and other office clients used to have a hard time looking for mobile load and data and since our office is not in a commercial area, I noticed the difficulties in finding a retailer. That’s when I started selling mobile load and data. As the days passed, they asked me to transfer fund to their GCash account. I liked the idea and eventually, I also offered bills payment service and fund transfer to other banks or e-wallet. I am using 3 e-wallets and my bank which has an online banking feature to do this business. I have my Coins.ph, GCash and PayMaya, now known as Maya. What I like most about this kind of business is that I can do it even if I don’t have a physical store and I am using only my mobile phone. I don’t have to maintain inventory too. So, it is convenient on my part and at the same time, helpful on the part of the customers. 4.       Portable ATM Machine This is the business that I want to start in the near future. Oftentimes, colleagues are having issues going to ATM machines in order to withdraw their salaries. That’s why if we have this portable ATM Machine, we can allow encashment in no time. As of now there are two brands, ENCASH and EASY DEBIT that have this product. 5.       Vending Machine Depending on the size of the community in your area, you can also get additional income with this type of business. The content of your vending machine might vary depending on the people who will be your prospect customers. You can sell snacks, chocolates, soda and other items depending on what the people in your area need. These types of business can be done offline. These may require some amount of capital. On the other side, if you are a tech-savvy individual, the following side hustles are worth a try. 6.       Online Teaching It does require a good internet connection, a laptop and a good web cam and microphone as well as an excellent communication skill. Though it does not require teaching course and experience but having one is an advantage. There are various websites accepting online teachers. 7.       Online Writing There are various types of writing activities that can be done online such a blogging, writing for forums, submitting articles to websites or guest blogging. I am currently active with forum writing and article writing. I am active with ReadCash and hoping to be active with Hub Pages in the coming days. 8.       Online Selling Online selling has been around for some time has become even more popular because of the pandemic. This is another good activity to try.  We can choose between having our own product or inventory or dropshipping. 9.       Crypto Currency Trading I have been earning free cryptocurrencies from various sites including NoiseCash, Freebitco.in and Forum Coin. The amount I earn may not be that great but since I don’t usually spend the amount I am earning from these sites, it helped me increase my savings. I also use part of my crypto earnings to finance my offline business and to trade. 10.   Virtual Assistant Virtual assistant is one of the most popular form of online work which we can engage with in order to earn additional income. A virtual assistant is a kind of work wherein we provide clerical, technical and/or administrative assistance to the client and we have to do this online. The tasks may vary depending on the needs of the client. A lot of Freelance websites can be found online. *On the final thought...* As a person who wants to give the best to our family, we are willing to try anything. It may not be easy, but with proper planning and research, combined with hard work, flexibility and patience, we can achieve success in whatever field we choose. Thank you for dropping by.

Would You Go For a Brand New or a Second Hand Car? Nowadays, a car is not anymore a luxury but a necessity. Having a service that could bring you to your workplace and back to your home offers great advantage. Especially if you need to travel a certain distance to your office or workplace. I used to travel from my home to work and vice-versa via public transportation.  It was an exhausting travel that I need to deal with every day. Our home is 60 kilometers away from my workplace and it would take me an hour or more of travel time, one way. Oftentimes, I would reach my home at around 8 in the evening and then I need to leave the house at 6 in the morning. In 2019, my son found a job with the same place as mine. Same with my daughter. We are all working in the same place. We decided to rent a house so to save on daily fare and at the same time, to be able to take a rest after work. The decision was a great relief. However, when Covid-19 pandemic hits the country, we find it difficult especially that we need to go to work. That’s when I decided to buy a car for my service. My son has his own motorcycle that he use. A friend of mine offered an old vehicle, so I decided to take it with a condition that they will teach me how to drive. After a week of practice, I applied for a driver’s license. My first car was a 1993 Toyota Corolla with manual transmission. Honestly, learning to drive a manual vehicle is hard. But I am determined to learn and I’m glad I am. At first, everything is okay with the vehicle. But after some time, it started to malfunction forcing me to have a frequent visit to the repair shop. I decided to sell my old car and bought a second hand car. I also want to have a brand new car but weighing the pros and cons, I settled for a second hand. My current car is a 2013 Honda City with automatic transmission. It is well-maintained with service booklet still intact.  It still runs smoothly and the air conditioning unit still working efficiently. Why I Opted for a Second Hand? Having been promoted for a higher position in my job, I know I can already afford to buy a new car. But I have my own reasons why I still choose to buy a second hand. Here they are: 1.       More Affordable The price of a new vehicle is increasing each year. The difference between a brand new car and a second hand vehicle is extensively higher. I can observe colleagues who are purchasing brand new cars on installment and I witnessed the difficulty of paying an item on installment for a lengthy period of six years.  What is even more disappointing is when we know that the value of the vehicle will depreciate in a year or two. I would rather buy a second hand vehicle at a lower price because I can afford to pay it on cash. It would be a better idea than buying a brand new car which I need to pay on installment. 2.       Tension-free Driving Driving a brand new car would certainly make us worry that we might experience dents and scratches during our first ride. Instead of focusing on driving, we will also worry that our vehicle might be damaged. In addition to this, I am only renting a place near my office and admittedly, I don’t have a secured garage to keep my vehicle. Though we have a parking space near the house but I am worrying that if I buy a brand new car, it would get much attention that might bring in issues. Car nappers would of course choose brand new and high priced vehicles. 3.       Lower Insurance Cost Getting a used car insured will cost lower than a brand new car. The key factor in determining the car insurance cost is the value of the vehicle. Since used cars have less value, the cost of insurance would be less as well. 4.       Slower Depreciation Depreciation of a vehicle is at its peak during the first three years of purchase. When we buy a used car, we will purchase it a price which has already gone under major depreciation. *On the final thought...* My decision was based on the circumstances I am currently in. Well, of course, who wouldn't want a brand new car if I have all the resources? But given the limited fund and with people whom I am still helping, I would rather have a used car so I can allot the remaining fund to other worthwhile activities. Thank you for dropping by.

Great Benefits of Working From Home Even before the pandemic period, working from home has already been popular because of the countless benefits it offers. In 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic started, government offices also adopted the work-from-home scheme to continuously provide services to the people. Hence, workers from various government agencies were obliged to shift from the usual practice to online working. Using of the online platform has become the new trend. Using of Google Drive for consolidation of reports, the use of link shortener such as bit.ly, Zoom and other meeting platforms, Facebook messenger, app and websites are only some of the common platforms used during this period. I have been active with online activities such as blogging and other form of online working since 2010 so the transition between manual and online processes was no longer new to me. Though it created some issues especially with older employees who could no longer adopt to the new technology. For those who have been active online even before the pandemic, I am sure that you would agree with me that there are countless benefits that working from home can offer, whether we do it on our own or we are employed in a certain company. **Benefits to the Government and Companies** Saves Time and Money During pre-pandemic period, we need to transmit hard copy of our monthly/weekly reports manually to the man office. With this, we need to travel using the service vehicle of the office to go to the regional office just to transmit the documents. We spent money for the gasoline and employees will claim for travel allowance as it is allowed by law. We also need to spend at least one whole day to do this. This is also true when we need to attend trainings or seminars on various programs. We need to be physically present on the designated venue. Additionally, we need to spend on accommodation just in case the training would last for several days. But with the adoption of the new scheme, scanned copies of documents can be uploaded to a designated Google Drive. Moreover, Zoom meetings can be as effective as attending the trainings or seminars personally. Thus, the government saved funds on travel, food and accommodation. Though we need to upgrade our internet services and gadgets to have a clear reception during meetings. **Benefits to Individuals** Comfort and Convenience Maybe not everybody is happy with this new work scheme but for many, having to work from home is beneficial in the sense that they can work from the comfort of their home. No need to spend time contemplating on what clothes to wear, waking up early so as not to get caught in the traffic. We save money and time as well. Why? Since we don’t need to go out of our home, we don’t need to spend on gas or fare and we can work with our ordinary clothes without any issues. Manage Your Money and Take Control of your Time Money and time are two of the most valuable resources that we need to manage effectively if we are aiming for a bright days ahead of us. The most common characteristic that can be associated to these is that they are both limited. The only way to get ahead of the game is to learn how to manage our time and money. Why we need to manage our time and money? We know for the fact that time, once it already passed, we can no longer recover the same. That is why it is imperative that we make the most of every single moment of our day to do productive activities. When the day started, we will notice that it passes by so quickly. Similarly, money, as we know is a valuable asset but can be gone in seconds if we are not using it wisely. There are times when we keep on wondering where our money has gone. But how can we effectively manage our money and time without losing life balance? Here are some tips that I will be sharing with you if you want to manage your time and money so as you won’t be left wondering what happened. **1.         Know what you want to achieve in a definite amount of time** Have a clear vision of what you want to achieve and set a realistic deadline. It is best to write it down so you can read it every time and act as a reminder. Once you have set your objective, make sure that every little move you make will contribute in one way or another in achieving that goal. Before performing any task or engaging in any activity, remember your goal and think if this activity will help in attaining the vision. This way, you will be mindful of every move or action you take. For example, you want to save a million dollar in your account by the end of three years. Does buying an expensive phone will help you realize that goal at time you specified? 2.         Learn to be contented on the things you have Many of us cannot control our strong desire to have something even if we cannot afford it to the extent of burying ourselves in debt. One common reason is envy. We usually feel this destructive emotion when a friend or colleague got new car, appliance, or jewelry. Oftentimes, we can’t resist the urge to buy similar things even if we know that we don’t have the capacity. This is one of the most common reason why a person go broke. A friend almost lost her job because of envy. She started using the fund of the office for her own desires. It was found out during the audit and she was terminated. 3.         Learn to wait One of the most admirable qualities of a person is having the ability to wait. Have you tested yourself how long can you wait for a certain thing to happen? Waiting is more than just being patient. It is how you behave while you are expecting something to happen. Learning to wait should not only putting on hold without thinking the value of time. The best strategy is to engage in something productive while waiting for the desired outcome to happen. 4.         Be consistent We always came across this statement. Success does not come in the first try. We need to continuously learn and never stop even at the point of discouragement. 5.         Create a Plan and stick to it Having a detailed plan of what we want to do in order to achieve our goal is vital. The plan is a set of action that we need to follow in order to reach our vision. Without a clear plan, we are surely to fail. 6.         Check you progress Are you on the right track? Do you need to revise your actions? These are some of the things you need to ask yourself while implementing the plan of actions you previously crafted. If a certain activity will not help you reach your goal, then it is necessary to reconsider things and make another move. Evaluating our performance will help us determine which activities are worth continuing and which are need to be revised.  7.         Save at least 10% of you income We should not spend everything that we earn. Saving a small percentage would be a best cushion when things doesn’t come out as expected. It is associated with identifying our priorities and setting aside the things we don’t really need. Compared before, saving nowadays is so much easier especially with the use of existing apps that would help us save conveniently. 8.         Create an Emergency Fund Many people say that creating an emergency fund is a good way to minimize the impact when things go wrong. Before we start investing, it is necessary that we have an emergency fund. As the word implies, this would be used during emergencies. 9.         Get a second source of income Earning a little extra on side can be a big help especially if you are aiming to reach a certain threshold or just want to have something to pick at any time. We can also use this amount to buy the needed things or an additional capital to our business. If you have free time, then it is best to get an additional source of income.   10.     Invest Wisely  Investment is not a one-time event but rather a consistent activity.  A small amount we regularly place into some investment vehicle will eventually grow into a valuable asset over time. However, before investing our hard-earned money into any program, we should spend time to make a thorough and comprehensive research of the program. Don’t be deceived by promises of high return without factual basis. Always remember the saying that, if an offer is too god to be true, it probably is. *On the final thought…* Managing our time and money is something that we should consider while we still have it. The fact that these are limited, means these are valuable and we need to develop a habit of making use of these resources effectively and efficiently. Don’t wait for the time that we no longer have enough strength and we are already short of time and money. Because everything will have an end.
