Date: October 22, 2021
My husband and I got married October 22 of year 2009. And today, we are celebrating our 12th year wedding anniversary.
I got surprised when I saw his greetings over FB because he don't do it ever. He don't really want such occasions to be announced in public but here he comes!.
Let me share you bits of our husband and wife story since our marriage.
Our humble beginning
We started our married life very un-prepared. It was due to an unexpected pregnancy that caused us to decide to do a civil wedding because we don't want to have problems in my first born's birth certificate.
I was 5 months pregnant when we became married. It was just a civil marriage because we're both financially unprepared by that time. I just started working as Associate Software Engineer January of that year while he is working as Security guard for almost 2 years already but he's supporting his sister who is in college during that time. We don't have any single cents of savings yet.
Our budget during our civil wedding? 5k PHP only. You heard it right. We've just invited close friends and family members to come and witness our wedding day.
After the wedding, I decided to move with him. He's renting a small room near his work by that time somewhere in Laguna. I am actually renting a bed space room in Mandaluyong (near my work). So I just go home every weekends. Our room is like a 3 x 4 area only which is just enough for 2 to 3 persons only. It's very small. We rented that room for 1500 PHP only per month. He just built his bed which became our bed every weekends (made of coconut lumber and fly wood).
I can still clearly recall, we don't even have electric fan way back then. We only have 2 pcs of plates, 6 pcs of spoon and fork, 2 pcs of glasses and 2 pcs of cups (for coffee). We used to cook in "gasolito". If you don't know how it looks like, here's the image captured from google. I can still clearly recall how afraid I am to cook in here because I feel like it will explode anytime.
Our beginning is so cheap I would say.
He has a mountain bike which he used as his service going to and from his work. He use that bike to accompany me to the main high-way where I ride a jeepney going to to the bus station. I used to ride in front of his bike.
Level UP 1.0
Rental House:
Before I gave birth, we moved to the nearby house which is double the size of our former house. We rented it for 2500 PHP only. It has enough room for 3 to 5 person to move around. We even have 1 bedroom unlike the previous one where our kitchen becomes our living room and transforms into bedroom at night :).
Gasolito to Stove
From gasolito, my husband bought a decent stove which looks like the below.
Kitchen Appliance and tableware
Since we have spacious house compared to our previous one, we started to buy appliances. We bought refrigerator, fans, and of course more plates, spoon and forks, cups and glasses.
Mat (Banig) to Mattress (Kutson)
When we move to our second house, I also bought a mattress. I bought a mattress that's just good for 2 persons.
We've got a living room
As I have mentioned, our second house is more decent than the first one. It even have a living room!. So, we bought a "sala set".
From bicycle to motorcycle
In a short period of time that we're living together, we managed to prioritized our own family. We managed to save a bit in preparation to my delivery date. I actually have an HMO but I told my husband that we still need to save just in case there are unexpected expenses that came-up during my delivery. And luckily, my delivery was safe and majority of the expenses was covered by my health card.
We used our saved money to buy a motorcycle. It was just few weeks after I gave birth :)..And I am happy to announce that the motorcycle is still in a very good condition as of this writing.
Last 2013 when we moved to Muntinlupa City. Reason being is the proximity from my work. But the house rental price is still the same so it's like we just moved literally without affecting our budget.
Level UP 2.0 : Suntok Sa Buwan
From 2,500 PHP rental fee to 8,900 PHP
It was year 2015 when we decided to find a rent to own house. We tried to find somewhere there in Laguna however after Ondoy where a lot of areas suffered from flooded water from the lake, we decided to find a rent to own house somewhere in Cavite. We know that Cavite has lots of non-flooded areas. We find a ready for occupancy unit and luckily, we are able to find one.
But guess what, from 2,500 PHP our house (which is where we reside now) costs 8,900 PHP per month. That's what my husband and I called it as "Suntok sa Buwan". Sounds like impossible to afford for both of us but we're both amazed because we did it!.
We are able to get this house October of 2015 but we moved here the following year (May 2016). It took us few months to move because we waited for my son's school year to finish first. He was in Kinder 1 by that time.
From Motorcycle to Tricycle
During the campaign period last 2016, my husband was able to work as Mar Roxas son's driver. And when the campaign period has ended, they were given a bonus into which my husband has used to buy a sidecar for his motorcycle. It became our family service when we go to the church or nearby malls and grocery stores.
From Tricycle to Four Wheels
December of the same year (2016) when we decided to get a car. We knew that it's a big financial responsibility but we go for it!. "Lakasan ng loob" is what we're always telling to each other. It costs 18,000 PHP per month for five years!. It's not a joke amount and we will have to do a big adjustment with our budget. And fortunately, for our almost 5 years of paying, we don't have any single record of delayed payment.
Before I end this, I just wanted to tell you folks that there are things that we look like it's impossible for us to achieve. But with your determination and effort? Believe me, you can!.
Many thanks for spending your time with my article :). Feel free to leave a comment! I will be happy to exchange conversation (as always) with you.
Have a great day ahead!
Congratulations Po! Daming Pinagdaanan tinibay kayo ng karansan. Happy Anniversary!. Godbless You Abundantly!
