The immoderate use of the cell phone or cell phone is a kind of addiction to technology that can contribute to develop attitudes of: dispersion, anxiety, intolerance, and even criminal attitudes to finance the addiction. More vulnerable are young people, who always want to have the latest technological version, which they feel improves their status and self-esteem. Those who cannot have moments of silence and solitude, which allow them to think, to do daily tasks, to dedicate time to reading or to be more of themselves. Technological addictions have a resemblance to other addictions and can also include the indiscriminate use of the Internet, video games, MP3 music players or television itself.
This can affect some people's ability to think. The phone that we use and look at practically every 10 minutes can play the role of a drug, diminishing the value of other reinforcers and slowing our thinking. The habit of getting up and checking the cell phone screen as the opening act of the day says a lot about the dependence on this device. And if we analyze it well before we did not do the same with the clock. This issue is known as nomophobia. Irrational fear of being disconnected or obsessive fear of not being reachable on the cell phone. We are talking about disconnection anxiety. Many people are affected by the distraction of the phone. However, when it impairs our performance, producing intense suffering, then we start talking about something much more serious.
In the same vein, not being able to use the cell phone because it has no battery or forgetting it somewhere causes anxiety or panic attacks in an increasing number of people. To date, these behaviors have a growing trend among high school and university students. Nomophobia has also been classified by psychiatrists as a real specific phobia. It seems that smartphone addiction makes us clumsier when it comes to thinking. Lately, other types of viewing habits associated with cell phones, such as addiction to WhatsApp or social networks, are also taken into account. The use of the mobile is almost indispensable in many spheres of our life, we cannot avoid it. However, we can make the effort.
A serious strategy, not to use the mobile at least the first hour of the morning. We can automate a behavior that is incompatible with having the cell phone in our hands. Get up and go straight to the shower or to wash our face and get ready. In addition, we can disable notifications from applications with unnecessary information on the home screen. We can consult them in a specific way when we are in a moment of leisure. And also, use e-mail during working hours through the computer. All these actions may seem that we are demonizing the use of cell phones, but nothing could be further from the truth. We are warning about the harmful effects of cell phone addiction on every human being who has these devices.
Finally, technology never ceases to amaze us. Every year there are endless lists of new phones, computers and tablets, each one more modern than the last. The same is true of the software for them, which never ceases to offer us advantages when it comes to communicating with others. It is ironic that what connects us with those who are far away distances us from those who are close. What was originally a novelty has gradually become an addiction. We see people queuing for hours in stores to buy the latest model; teenagers who only live to please others on social networks and an alarming emergence of new related disorders. The addiction produced by any of these elements causes the individual to abstract from the physical reality and pay more attention to the virtual one. It is currently something very common that affects a large part of the population, generating a real controversy.
