It is the physical or mental response to an external cause, such as having many tasks or suffering from an illness. A stressor can be a one-time or short-term event, or it can happen repeatedly over a long time. Generally, our lives can become stressful.

You may feel stressed by your performance in school, traumatic events such as a pandemic, a natural disaster or act of violence, or a major change in your life. Everyone feels stressed from time to time. In addition, the red zone of stress delimits a mental barrier that is not advisable to cross. It is that horizon in which our sense of control fades, our cognitive resources fray giving way to problems of attention, memory, reflection.

Well, we have all experienced stress on numerous occasions. Something we should be clear about first is that feeling it, suffering it and going through periods of time determines its emotion, it is something perfectly normal. That is, after all, a usual psychological and physical reaction to stimuli of great intensity, whether negative or even positive. Sometimes, even something that generates a great illusion we end up living with certain doses of stress. On the other hand, the problem comes when this situation becomes persistent.

Our organism, our brain, is not prepared to "cohabit" with this psychophysiological activation permanently. Moreover, most of us are unaware of the impact it has on the person, how it changes us and how it alters our performance, mood or health. Even the red zone of stress leads us to a state in which we end up responding below our intelligence. That is to say, it is to reach a level where we do not act, we react. It is a state in which we do not reason logically but, almost without realizing it, we let ourselves be carried away by the most adverse emotions. All this, as we can imagine, has an immense risk and cost.

If we go beyond the red zone of stress and stay in this scenario for a long time, we will fall into a state of depression. Not only will our physical health be affected: exhaustion, tachycardia, digestive problems, before all this exposed us can only understand one fact. We can all suffer stress, feel it, experience it during a specific and limited period of time, it is therefore something very common. Now then, we must apply strategies to handle that daily stress, those punctual worries of the day to day, that discomfort that today takes away my calm. If we let it go and do not act, this problem will become bigger, sometimes unattainable. The psychological reactions caused by stress have three components: emotional, cognitive and behavioral. These elements are closely related, emotions can be defined as a state of mind that appears as a reaction to a stimulus. This makes us think that stress is an emotion since it has the characteristics of an emotion.

In conclusion, stress can be defined as what a person feels when the pressure experienced exceeds his or her ability to cope with it. Each person reacts differently to stress, depending on his or her personality and how he or she responds to pressure. Stress can be caused by many factors, such as money, work worries or personal relationships. It can cause psychological symptoms, such as irritability, anxiety and physical symptoms such as sleep problems. It can also be caused by an accumulation of small things over time, for example, not feeling valued in your job or having a child whose behavior is difficult to deal with. Sometimes there is no clear cause of stress. It is important that you try to recognize the difference between temporary stress, which usually goes away once the problem in question is resolved, and long-term stress that can be detrimental to you, your health and those around you.

Is your stress temporary or permanent?
