Sometimes I wonder if I would disappear how long would it take to be entirely forgotten about.

Found this in Nipponbashi Den-Den Town at a One Piece gacha.
Here in Germany there is a tradition and lantern festival in autumn called St Martin. It's a parade where the primary school kids with handcrafted lanterns are following a man on a horse dressed up as St Martin through the streets singing cheerful songs about what he did as a bishop. After that the kids are walking from door to door collecting sweets in exchange for some singing. I like this tradition because it teaches about empathy and awareness of people in need. The parade looks like this: https://youtu.be/aEr0K86Mtd4 My all time favourite Martin's song is "Der Herbststurm" ("The autumn storm"): https://youtu.be/qB0yvTb0L2g It's so cozy... 🍂🍁☁️
To be honest what I'm doing financially is not that clever. The starting salary for newly graduate students in my field without any experience is around 10000$ more a year compared to what I'm earning now. I was just too desperate about not finding a job that I accepted the offer. When it comes to building wealth the biggest leverage besides time is your income. If it's possible you should focus on earning more before you start to try hard saving more of your current salary... Someone with a higher salary could easily save in a year what took me 2 years of "hardcore saving".
Recently I have been throwing away and selling a lot of my stuff. I own so many useless things I don't actually need anymore and don't have any emotional or sentimental connections to... I realized that when I will move away I have to take all these things with me. Owning a lot of stuff makes you so much less flexible...
To be honest thinking about my trip to the Philippines I'm a bit scared. It feels more dangerous than the countries I have been to. But my excitement to experience and learn about this beautiful country and culture is way higher. Also it's something I can look forward to. That makes me want to keep going for now and to experience 2025. During the pandemic I tried booking a flight to Manila, but wasn't able to because of the travel restrictions. Now I'm researching about flights and hotels and a visit is actually just one click and a ~20 hours travel away.
I think my next travel destination might be the Philippines. I'm thinking about somewhere in the first half of next year... Through noise and the ones I have met I got introduced to the country and culture. It made me super curious to this day. Also there are a lot of vegetarian and vegan food options in Manila. The suburb called "Makati" belongs to the most vegetarian/vegan friendly areas in Asia. And looking at flight and hotel prices it's super affordable too.
Everything in life is finite. Tomorrow it could be over. We only have this one life. If we don't watch out things are over and we will regret not having done or tried something. It's so easy to get stuck in an everyday-life that isn't really the one we hoped for... Just because it feels "safe" and the unknown feels "dangerous"...
There are times where I believe that I need to leave everything behind and start over to have a chance to become happy. Moving to a different city or even country to start a new live and leave behind my past. I don't have friends or social contacts here anyway. I guess the only thing that keeps me here are my mom and me not having enough money.
Seeking for social approval or instant gratification is the number one wealth killer when you are young. It will lock you inside a golden cage. A never ending rat race cycle. Especially if you are in your 20s or early 30s and have a job you should be very careful on what you spend your hard earned money on. Because these early years will decide how you will do financially for the rest of your life. There is so much distraction caused by ads, movies, social media or even your environment that makes you feel the urge to spend your money...

If you want to spend some time in Europe comming to Germany could be a great choice. 🧳🛫🇩🇪👋 You can drive over to all these different countries by car or train in no-time. Even by plane is super cheap. Also no passport or visa is required for entering because of the European Union. Here it's normal that people are driving over to the Netherlands, France, Poland etc. for a weekend trip. For example from where I live it's only a ~2 hours drive by car to the Netherlands. Maybe Germany is seen as a lame country, but you can use it as a central point of exploring all these different countries.
I'm very careful when it comes to my privacy on the internet. I never had any private social media account. Even if you would know my name you wouldn't find anything about me. "Rektflip" is all I have. It was the first time I created a social media account. I have a secret Instagram account where I share my Pokemon collection, but that's it.
I made a small investment into the Xtrackers EUR Overnight Rate Swap UCITS ETF. It's an exchange traded index fund on the Solactive €STR +8.5 Daily index. This fund basically reproduces the interest that is paid by the European central bank using swap contracts. It's nothing you should consider for wealth building. Rather as a way to park money that you can't invest into stocks because you need it in the short or mid term. You only need to keep an eye on the central banks decisions, because you need to pull your money out when interest rates turn negative again. This is why this chart looks so funny. You can clearly see the value decreasing until the ECB started increasing rates to fight inflation.
I hope I wasn't too annoying posting so much trash the past few days. I needed to distract myself. And currently the only "positive" topic on my mind are finances. Because there is a lot going on at the financial markets since last Thursday.
This man took high risks by only investing into the Japanese stock market and Turkish Lira. He has a mortgage to pay and family to feed. In his position I wouldn't put all my money into stocks. I would also invest money into a money market fund or maybe even bond funds to take some volatility out of the portfolio. I hope he learns from that and all the comments to make sure to be able to financially protect his wife and kids. Because I currently have no financial responsibilities I can take higher volatility to increase my long term returns. So I built my portfolio allocation this way. I also noticed this ~10% drop last Friday in my stocks portfolio. And I'm aware that it could drop even more. But being able to invest your money during a global recession while having just started your financial journey could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. https://youtu.be/tdL0d1NHxkY
I took this picture in bed before trying to sleep in Japan last year. I don't do day trading but when I was in Japan I was watching a TV show about stocks and FX trading. 😬 I didn't understand anything but I found it fascinating how they got into the details of chart analysis.
While I think it's super important to talk about personal finances you will never see me publicly talking about how much money exactly I invest or how much I have saved up so far. Finances are something super personal and it doesn't bring you anything knowing what others achieved, besides feeling left behind. There is always someone younger than you who has achieved more. You always see me post about percentages. Because I want to encourage you to take care of your finances. To start saving and investing. The only time I revealed a bit was when the admin of the Juungle marketplace asked me to post about how much BCH I made from selling my Waifus...
My sister asked me to review a contract for a pension insurance a good friend was advicing to her for her retirement. It was so expensive that it basically was a scam... 5% issue premium, 2% contract costs to the insurance company and a TER of more than 2.1%... Under the hood this product was basically buying cheap ETFs and bond funds... 😓 Always be super careful when a "financial advisor" is trying to sell you something without charging you for the consultation. Even if it's a good friend or family member... They are earning their whole salary from kick-backs and commission. It's in their interest to sell you products which they earn the most from. The expensive ones.
Germany currently has many agreements for visa free travel with other countries. And as a junior developer the company is giving me 30 paid holidays a year which my boss allowes me to take rather flexibly... I could wake up feeling like visiting Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan or some other place far away and just take a cheap last minute flight without preparation. If I have unplanned paid holidays left and there isn't any project deadline, my boss most likely is okay with that. I wonder if a drastical change of my environment would help during times when things are really tough mentally.
"Give me a little bit of security in a world where nothing seems secure Give me something that remains in these fast times Just give me something to hold on to and make me feel secure Pull me out of these fast times and slow me down a little bit Give me something, anything, that remains" 🎶 https://youtu.be/GsRuJjgyZdQ
Would you take the "effort" to pick up a 1 cent coin that is laying on the ground? I found this one earlier this week near the parking spot on my way to the office. You can't buy anything with that. The monetary value of it seems non existant. Most people wouldn't even consider picking it up. At school I once even got made fun of because I did. But if you look at it from an investment perspective this 0.01€ can turn into inflation adjusted 0.16€ for your retirement. If you are a frugal investor you realize that every additional cent counts. It adds up. Here in Germany there is a saying that goes: "Wer den Pfennig nicht ehrt ist des Talers nicht wert."
As a student I was dreaming about how things will turn out after graduating. Now I have a job and am working for over one year. The time I was dreaming about is now... But how did I imagine my current life to be 5 years ago? ... I have no idea what I actually want. What should I do. If I don't do anything, nothing would happen. Nothing would change... And I know that I will regret that one day. If I don't watch out years will fly by without any significant difference in my life. The path I'm currently going is investing as much as possible to build wealth as quickly as possible. But this comes to a huge trade-off. Living a life that has nothing more to offer than work-sleep-repeat. To put it into perspective, I currently have around 30$ a month to spend...
I just got to know about the typhoon and floods that hit the Philippines. These pictures are heart breaking and make me worry so much. I hope that everyone is okay... I have already looked up the affected areas and current situation... It scares me that until now I didn't know about this. If I wouldn't have read about it today on noise I would never got to know that this happened over there....
Marriage is known to be the easiest way to get a citizenship. But there is an easier way if you have money. You can simply buy a second citizenship. For many countries even legally. This is called "Citizenship by Investment". For example many wealthy Chinese people are "purchasing" a citizenship of European countries to hide/secure their wealth from the CCP, hassle free residence, visa free travel and for access to good health care. When it comes to European countries you can "buy" a citizenship for as little as 500k$. If you are rich this is nothing for you if you look at what you get.
Mental issues in combination with having a job is a serious problem. I don't have any financial responsibility at the moment. But when you have girlfriend, wife, kids, family or anyone you love relying on your salary it's a difficult situation. I'm "paralyzed" for weeks now. Currently I'm just lucky that my work is trust based and nobody cares about what I'm doing.
Blueberries are mental health food. This might sound like a joke, but it's not. They increase your serotonin level and help you to fight mental health problems like depression or even worse things... They where a part of the diet I discussed with the doctor back then. Since it's summer we have some growing at the garden and I harvested some.
If you want to live in Germany Düsseldorf could be a considerable option. It doesn't have much to offer for tourists. But if you want to live here it could be a good choice. - The city is neither too big, not too small. - Compared to other big cities housing is still affordable - People are more open-minded, especially towards asian people because Düsseldorf has Europes biggest Japanese community which is an integrated and well-loved part of the city - It's ranked amoung the German cities with the happiest people - There are many jobs offered by international companies - It's a wealthy city with a really good quality of life
The majority of my stocks portfolio consists of accumulating ETFs (exchange traded index funds) which automatically re-invest the dividends into more stocks to profit from compound interest. But when companies I own direct shares of are paying their dividend it somehow motivates me to keep investing even more. It makes me realize that 24/7 there is someone in this world, at a company I own shares of, working "for me". No matter if I'm sleeping, working or travelling.
We shouldn't take our health for granted during times when we think we are doing okay. Because when we get sick it's often too late and worse could have been prevented. This counts for your physical, but also your mental health. For your physcial health this includes going to ALL of your annual and semi-annual health check-ups, eating healthy food, no drugs, enough sleep, doing sports etc. For your mental health this for example can include meditation, breathing exercises, journaling, keeping your brain active, reflecting on your own feelings BUT also things like sleep, sport and healthy food.
I realize that I really need to get an occupational disability insurance. It's one of the most important insurances which everyone should have. Such an insurance also jumps in and keeps paying your salary when you can't work anymore because of mental problems. Burnout, depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorders... Mental issues make up one third of occupational disability cases. There is even a case in my close family where, because of a traumatic death of a close one, this person wasn't able to work for 20+ years. Mental health should never be underestimated.
