Pride, Greed, Selfishness, Betrayal.....

“Swallow your pride, open your heart, and show more humility.”

Mimi Gabriel

Sincerely, I was touched by the movie I watched yesterday. Though I have been watching this movie since Friday, I didn't finish it until yesterday night and I felt for the lady. It was so emotional and I was following up with the movie. Even though I already predicted what will happen in the end, it was an interesting movie.

Many Nigerians will know this movie as it is a trending one on Netflix titled “Anikulapo” meaning one who has death in his pouch. This movie has many morals one could learn from and I was able to list everything out in this guy as I tagged him a betrayal and I love what happened to him in the end. That definitely served him right.

Many people will forget where they are coming from once they can taste wealth, forgetting who made them who they are. This is an act of betrayal to the other person and the end would be sorrowful.

This guy was enslaved right from when he was six years old as a result of the debt his parents owed. He managed to escape and lived a bad and rough life. When he grew up, he found himself in another land where they welcomed him with love even as a stranger.

He met a lady who was a Queen and the last wife of the king of the land and also the king's favourite but this lady didn't enjoyed her marriage because the other wives frustrated her life and even tried poisoning her but she didn't die.

Somehow, she and this guy were having an affair and the secret was exposed. The lady escaped while the guy was punished and killed. His time wasn't up and a mystical bird brought him back to life.

Remember the mystery of not burying a corpse in my last post? This was the movie I watched.

When the guy was brought to life, a gourd of charm fell from the mystical bird and the lady took and hide it. They both left the village for another land and that was the beginning of their changed lives.

The gourd made them powerful and they were able to raise a dead person. This brought fame to them and that was the beginning of trouble. The guy became proud, greedy, and selfish that he married two more wives, neglecting the first woman who made him who he was by giving him the gourd to do the work of bringing the dead back to life.

He received the praise and he allowed that to enter his head, thereby exhibiting different bad traits. He started revealing the secret of his first love which he was supposed to keep and was sharing with other wives.

They began calling her barren because she couldn't conceive. Where I knew the guy went beyond is when he slapped her for the first time, forgetting she made him who he was.

This angered her as she had endured staying with him for many years but that act changed her. She destroyed the charm and left the home.

He was called to come and resurrect the king's only son, not knowing the first wife already destroyed the charm he was bragging with. When he couldn't, they dealt with him because he had fumbled through his greedy and prideful act and even insulted the king.

I felt for the lady because she was hurt to the brim. She endured the tough moment even with the other young wives. She felt cheated and betrayed by someone who she made to be famous but he allowed pride and selfishness to set in and he was killed in the end.

No matter what we have achieved in life and just because we have been in a lot of challenges, never allow pride, greed, and selfishness to take over you and ruin everything.

He could have been enjoying his life if he hadn't allowed those things to take over him. He would have enjoyed his life with his wife if he never remarried or betrayed. That was covetousness and lack of contentment.

That movie speaks a lot about humans and what could happen to some if eventually they got to the position and forget those who made them who they are. This life is small and everything is vanity. Stop living your life as if you own the earth and think death cannot come for you.

Everyone will die because we all are indebted to death, but living your life in the best way is all that matters and is very important.

Thanks for your time.

I agree with you. Some peoples when they receive something beyond their expectations, instead of being thankful they misuse the opportunity they received and also hurt the one who stood by them.

That is so bad of people in such act. It's important to stay true and be grateful for what you have and where you are. Also, acknowledging someone who helped you get there is important.

Allowing materialistic things to make one who he is ...is what gives way to bad virtues like pride, greed and selfishness. This just makes you a fool of yourself honestly... People forget things easily and that's not nice .

They forget where they were coming from my sister. That is when you know their true character. It's really sad though.

Yoruba movie industry is doing well these days. Movies that teaches a lot of morals, just like the King of boys. They speak of what is happening in the society.

What a sentimental story. He could have no doubt good life if he had not allowed those things to take over him.

I enjoyed the story. Though before and without watching the movie I know the story but I will watch it. Thankyou

A truly successful person would acknowledge his/her roots. It's just unbecoming to be able to be in the peak of success and fail to look back on the people who have helped him.

It's really sad and unfair not to think about those who helped them get to such level in life.

This is whats sad whdn some already taste the good life in having wealth. I can't say that I won't be like him, but I think it still really depend on the person if they stay humble and kind. This movie sounds interesting I want to watch jt even though I was already spoiled haha

It is often said that you only get to know about one's true character only when they become rich or get into power.

Exactly. You just explained clearly. Give someone a good position and see his or her true character.

His being famous leads him to being greedy and commit different mistakes and forget who help him to be in that position

Exactly. When one is in a position, they should tread carefully not to fall.

I haven't watched this movie till date. I have a habit of not watching a trending movie until it doesn't trend anymore. From the stories I hear, it is interesting.

Anikulapo is a very interesting movie. I feel bad for Arolake though. She should have just stayed with the King

That part taught me that you shouldn't leave someone who loves you to the one who you love because you might be disappointed when someone you love isn't loving you.

The king loved her and took her as his favorite but she didn't see it that way.
