Focus.
Let's face it, there are so many distractions in life and everything is screaming to gain our attention. Someone joked yesterday that one minute, you feel you are rich and the next minute you are a mathematician; calculating where all your money went.
There would always be things that would take your attention away from things that matter and it's the way life has been wired so we would be able to know the things that are truly important. It's easier to focus when you have something driving you but that doesn't mean there won't be distractions. Being focused is not the absence of distractions but in spite of it. You have to be able to tell yourself that in spite of the obvious distractions, your resolve won't change.
We have seen situations where a student who has been doing so well in his studies decided to allow a moment of relapse to set in all with the excuse of trying to "have fun" without the balance being set in play. He overdid it and then he crashed so bad while playing catch up with those he used to be ahead of. Sometimes, a simple moment where we take our eyes off the prize can prove costly and you might have to ask an athlete so this can be explained better.
Manchester United played yesterday and after a wonderful first half, they had a moment of relapse and allowed the opponent back into the game and they ended up losing valuable 3 points. They had to settle for a point and that's how cruel lack of focus can get you. I cited this for us to know that it cuts all across every sphere of life and this further strengthens the importance of focus.
Imagine the things you do and a momentary moment of relapse, think how far the damage might go. I read this funny joke many years ago about a friend chatting with another friend. He complained about how his girlfriend told him she was pregnant and how the beer he was hoping to drink got frozen because he was thinking. The friend, rather than sympathize with him had a moment of laughter instead and said, "You can't pull anything out on time, can you?".
If we ever want to get anything done in life, we need to be focused. We can't leave things to chance or just allow things to flow. We have to be intentional about it. We keep learning so we can be better at the things that we do. There is little we can achieve in life if we keep taking our eyes off the prize.
You have made your new year resolutions, stick to it. You promised to make your savings better this year, you have to stay focused. You can't keep going on impulse buying or getting entangled in things that would always take money from you without value being added. You can't keep throwing money away because you want to impress those that are not even looking at you.
Your relationship requires your focus because if you are not focused you will lack the commitment that is needed to make your relationship successful. Your finance needs focus because you would sink deeper if you take your eyes off it. I read the story of a bank manager that was invited to another bank because they wanted to poach him. Of course, they asked for his 6 months statement of accounts and despite scaling through 4 stages of the rigorous interview process, the last phase where the statement of account was needed showed his account was in the red despite earning millions of Naira monthly. He was asked so as not to raise any suspicion if he had any project going on and he said no. They said they can't trust him with their finances if he can't get his finances in order and that offer was withdrawn.
As I said, there would always be something to take our focus off the things we are supposed to focus on. There would always be people who would want to derail us off that path and the good thing is, the more distractions come your way, the more you have to increase your resolve. The tree with the most trees attracts the most sticks or stones. You won't feel that many distractions if you are not on the right path and it is more for you to know that it's a test to see how much you wanted what you wanted.
Most people major on minor things and then minor on major things. We need to know what's important to us based on the channel we want our lives to go through. We should have a purpose to live for and then follow through aggressively. Not many people would understand what you believe in, yet, but you can allow your results to speak for you. Your results can only speak for you when you don't lose focus on what you started.
Most people started so many things and then fizzle out. Staying focused would keep us in line to go through with what we need to sort out. We need to always remind ourselves why we started what we started in the first place. If we can remember the "why" then we can figure out the "how."
Thank you for your time.

Focus is a very important necessity in the majority of decisions one makes, and it is true that when distractions or derails occur, then the desired results may or may not happen. Look at it this way, I stopped reading, but you keep writing good posts and I wind up getting sidetracked away from my no reading policy! Hahahahahahaha Another excellent article Olasquare!!!
